My complaint is terrible line up service! also should have more cashiers on at this time of year. only 2 were going in prime time! And there was 2 other cashier spots. not even a bagger! and she sis not even tissue paper some of the items which should have bin wrapped up for protection!
got taken
I returned some merch and had a credit of about 50.00. I then bought something else and wanted them to use that credit. I received a bill for that purchase which meant they never gave me the credit. I payed the bill and then bought something else and told them once again to use that credit. I then again received a bill for that purchase which meant they once again did not give me the credit that's owed to me. I went to that store will the bill and they said they could not do anything about it. They gave me Capital Ones phone number and told me that I would have to contact them because they take care of all the billing. Every time I called that number I got a recording that had nothing to do with me wanting to talk to someone about Pier Ones bill. I proceeded to go directly to Capital Ones bank but they also could not do anything to help me.in the meantime I ended up with a late fee of $25.00 for not paying on my $50.00 purchase. I will never shop at Pier One again. The customer service sucks. I feel like Pier One should have done something to help me. I still have a $50.00 credit there but I'm afraid to use it as I'll probably get ripped off again.
product/customer dissatisfaction
To start off I would like to say that I will most likely never shop at Pier One again. Our experience started off good, sales lady was very informative and pleasant. We found a love seat we wanted to buy, but they did not have it in stock. We asked if we could buy the floor model but denied. That was fine. We were also interested in a table but were not sure if it would work until we checked at home. We were told they would order one in for us for the next week. (we do not live in kelowna but in Vernon) The next week we picked up our loveseat and wanted to buy the table, but they did not have one. Once again we asked if we could purchase their floor model and were told no. A few days later we ordered by phone the table. So the next week we picked up our table and brought it home... we opened the box and there were two legs missing. We phoned the Kelowna store and were told they would have to be ordered in and it would take two weeks, they also gave us the option to take the two legs from their model or we could even have their floor model? So why would they not let us buy it in the first place? We opted to wait for the legs to come in. The manager called back and told us the girl we talked to was mistaken and that the legs would only take a week to come in. So we called the next week and no legs. Talked to another manager and she said she would look into it and she called back to say that they were fedexed and would be in Monday or Tuesday We said we would pick up on Friday... Called Friday and guess what? They do not know if they are in, looks like another week in waiting.
You can use the back of the loveseat to hold up the legless end of that table. this is a very stylish look that is de rigeur in Europe right now.
they absolutely insist it was not received until the later date, and refuse to credit my account for any portion of the fees assessed
I mailed my first payment on my new Pier 1 credit card account in time to make my payment due date (5 days to get from Colorado to Illinois), but it was not credited to my account until 10 days later. I was charged interest of $15.37 (at 23%) and a $35 late fee. They absolutely insist it was not received until the later date, and refuse to credit my account for any portion of the fees assessed. I am so angry, and think they must be running a scam of holding payments like I have heard some other companies do. I have canceled my account.
We purchased 2 bags of pumpkin spice potporri and 2 bags of ginger peach potpourri and 2 room sprays. We put them out in the house and there was no smell to them and we spent alot trying to get something that would make the house smell good. We would like to try the new vanilla kind of buttercreme vanilla, but we want to make sure there will be a smell to it. We are very dissatisfied with the fragrances we purchased.
I'm sorry it's Chase, not Capitol One
I'm not big on potpourri or room sprays, but I've tried they're reed diffusers and they are FANTASTIC
Your issue is actually with Capitol One who handles the Pier 1 charge card, now with Pier 1 themselves, it also generally takes 5-10 business days for most other credit cards to post your payment
i agree with you that it feels like they have this attitude that it's okay to treat customers that way. I had an issue from 2008, i paid off my card and got a bill the next month saying i was late in paying off the account. I was charged $15, the following month i called and asked that the assessed late fee be reversed, i was told they'd reverse it. Again, the following month i found the charge was not removed and then i was assessed an additional $15. This went on for 2 more months so i now was given $60 on the account and it was only late fees. I refused to pay and i wrote a letter and sent it certified mail.
Since then i heard from a collection agency who recognized that there must have been an explanation for it all and they claimed that they were going to move on.
Today i got a letter in the mail for a new balance $121 for unpaid costs. I called only to find that Pier 1 turned me into a new collection company and they were rude, yelling at me immediately, wouldn't even let me explain...just demanded the $121. Ultimately, i hung up, called again and asked for a fax number so i could send over the back up information.
I do feel that this is just another way for them to collect money from good honest people and they take no responsibility. has anyone found out what else can be done?
i refuse to pay for their mistakes!
both the customer service rep & the supervisor refused to refund my interest
I purchased items through Pier One using their credit card by Chase. I had promotional balances that expired 3/1/2010, 4/1/2010 and 7/1/2010. I paid the balance before the promotional expiration of 3/1/2010 prior to that date; however, they applied my payment to the balance which expired 4/1/2010 resulting in an interest charge of $88.57 from the promotional balance that ended 3/1/2010. When I called Pier One customer service, they claimed that this was a result of the new credit card law changes effective 2/22/2010. Their explanation was that all payments had to be applied to the lowest interest rate. I explained that all my rates are the same. They then said that they had to apply the payment to the promotional balance that ended the latest. However, this didn't make sense since they applied my payment to the next promotional balance which ended 4/1/2010 rather than to the last balance that ended 7/1/2010. Both the customer service rep & the supervisor refused to refund my interest, so I closed my account. Not sure if there is anything that I can do about this. Thank you for your time & please let me know if you have any suggestions.
Just wanted to share with you how impressed I am with your loves park store. I'm a weekly customer& truly love your products.I've made many purchases. Brought many of my friends & family there as well! I feel your employees should be recognized. I'm moving to a new home here shortly Been friendly & quite patient. Even helped me with some of my selections. My complaint is I. Am unable to get one of your charge cards so in turn can't take advantage of any deals offered to card holders. I feel there should be some deals offered to your regular customers as well. Possibly some percentage deals, punch card and things of that nature. Thanks!
fraudulent business practices
I made a purchase at a Pier One store on 11/16. I tried to give feedback on line several times, no luck. Called 800# Had almost finished survey & was told to call back & do it again.
Store #0411, Reg #1, Trans # 544 I have tried to respond to the request for feedback in good faith, and met with frustration. "We could listen to you all day." Statement does not apply to this customer's experience.
here is the location for the survey...

where the hell is so called survey
I was shopping at Pier 1 today and was told to visit www.Pier1.com/feedback and complete a survey - where the HELL is this so called survey? Have searched your site for 30 mins. This really sucks!
Was going to give a SUPER Compliment but had same issues. Finding Survey more than SUCKS! In this day and time, it should pop right up!
MY TIme is not worth this, SHAME ON PIER ONE, You have some great employees that deserve recognition and we can't give it, because of your HORRIBLE website!
I visited store #0091 and was very pleased with the service and helpfulness of the employees. BUT! I purchased red swirled martini glasses that were on sale for 20 percent off. Very happy with my purchase until I got home and was removing the price stickers. Imagine my surprise when the sticker for 6.95 a glass was covering up a sticker for 6.00 on the glasses. I feel like I have been duped. Paying .76 more a glass might not seem like a big deal to some people, but it to me, it was a very big deal! I am not sure if this is a Pier 1 practice or just a one time incident. I will continue to shop at Pier 1, but you can be sure I will check the price stickers BEFORE making a purchase. Oh, and I will be telling all of my friends about this experience.
Respectfully submitted, Janet Retzke, Sandusky, Ohio (bearyretzy@bex.net)
just as other complaints, it is impossible to find the correct site for the survey! Rachael at Store 0432 was very nice and helpful. Because of her I will go back, however, I am very worried about what I am reading in the survey with how employees are treated. What is wrong with treating people with respect and fairness which in turn encourages workers to stay and deliver good customer service which brings customers back, which makes corperate happy which should make you want to treat your employees well, which makes them happy which makes them want to give good customer service- etc-etc-etc. What is wrong with people today?
I purchased a wall hanging in May of this year. The staff person and I looked over the item and I was satisfied with it. When I pulled the car up to get the delivery, which the salesperson was going to bring out to me, he told me there was a problem. He said he "noticed" that some of the mosaic pieces were missing. The purchase price was $200+. He told me the manager said she would give me an added discount if I decided to keep it. I had just opened a charge that day. I really liked the piece so decided to keep it and purchase some mosaic pieces to replace the missing ones. After getting it home and checking it over, I realized there were more missing than what he had pointed out. I found some that I thought would work but when my husband went to fix it, they would not. He had to manually cut each piece by hand. I have the piece hanging, but just wanted to let you know that I was not happy with the way it was handled. I would not purchase again from Pier1.
Pier 1 Imports - Pier1 treats their employees like garbage! The product is not what they say it is!
I worked for Pier1 for a little over a year, and I'm surprised I made it that long! This place is not what it seems from the outside!
The 'one of a kind' products they claim to have are flimsy and cheap with a hefty price tag. Pier1 makes it's employees bribe customers into signing up for their credit card! The managers change like the season. They will fire you for no reason at all!
I live in an 'at will' state which means you can legally be fired for no reason at all! And they take advantage of that! If they think your weird or don't fit into the click at the store, they make it know! I've heard managers say that people don't get fired at Pier1 because we make it so miserable form them that they quit!
And I quote that! At the end of the day, all I'm saying is I wouldn't shop here, and I certainly wouldn't recommend working here.
To anyone!
I had the same issue wrt trying to find the survey. The site they refetence takes you to the pier1 homepage no matter what you try...very disappointing..
location of survey...

terrible experience
I tried to exchange a gift which was a duplicate of something I already purchased some time ago. The total amount of the gift was $6.83 with tax and all I wanted to do was exchange for something else. According to the salesgirl in the store "policy" was that I had 30 days with gift receipt to return it. Well the gift was purchased a few months ago and I had just received it less than 30 days ago (Christmas 2008). My point was that "I" had just recieved it and it was within 30 days and all I wanted to get was something that I really wanted. Finally after talking to "customer relations" on the phone I was placed on hold when I asked for the custome Relations manager. I was left there for 5min and "he" never came back to the phone. Its not a suprise that they are closing stores. Who wants to shop in a store when all that matters is how much they sell not how much they can make a customer happy. So for $6.83 I will take my business elsewhere, I'm sure they won't be open for much longer in this economy anyways!

I too am an assoicatie at Pier 1. Our policies stand as they are that you get 30 days with a recipt. Anything over 30 days or with a gift reciept get a merchandise credit for what ever the price of the item is when you bring it into the store. Yes, it is unfortunate that the merchandise was given to you months after it was purchased, but it is not the sales associates fault. It is company policy and I am sorry if you weren't offered the $6.38 merchandise credit because that you should have been offered. As it was said our company motto is every customer every day. We as a company go try to go above and beyond in customer service to try and give our customers an experience they will enjoy and rememeber. It is unfortunate that you didn't enjoy your experience it one of our stores, but wishing that our company closes over $6.38 is slightly mean. For all who are concerned the company is striving for excellence and thriving even in this economy.
Ok, I am a associate at Pier 1 imports, and policy is 30 days with receipt, if u do not have the receipt than you will get store credit and it will be the price it is that day. So if it was 6 dollars when your friend bought it a couple months before than it was probably only 3 dollars the day you brought it back. So dont be mad at pier1 asscociates, and just so you know and understant PIER 1 MOTO IS EVERY CUSTOMER EVERY DAY MEANING WE ARE THERE TO MAKE OUR CUSTOMERS HAPPY! WE HAVE CUSTOMERS WHO HAVE SHOPPED WITH US FOR 30 YEARS, SO GET OVER IT!
What you meant to say is "anyway", I presume. There is no "s" in "anway". I am a part time "Associate" in a department store, working my tail off trying to make ends meet while working full time in a professional capasity "in this economy". I find it completely idiotic that you are this upset about $6.00 and change from something purchased (not with your cash) "a few months ago". SERIOUSLY? What do you expect? Anyone can buy anything from any store and bring it back 30 days later, 3 months later, or longer and claim that they received it as a gift yesterday. How can you possibly discriminate? And by the way, it was a $6.00 gift? You should be more irritated at your friend for getting you such a cheap gift. Business is business. It's nothing personal...RELAX! If you can find something in Pier 1 for $6.83 that you "really want"...you are a lucky individual with simple needs and not much to complain about! I am SURE your attitude had nothing to do with it...because most businesses want to lose customers over $6.83. Probably NOT!
worst customer service I have experienced in a long time
I was shopping in the store in Kalamazoo MI. I spoke with an associate at the store about a lamp I wanted to purchase. He said it was under a pile of things in the back and the manager would have to get it for me. The manager never spoke with me or got the lamp for me. I left the store after wwaiting 1/2 hour. This is the worst customer service I have experienced in a long time. I will shop at World Mmarket from now on.

I went to Pier I for the first time two weeks ago. I was looking for a pillow for a papasan chair. A man came up to help me, who said he thought they had a pillow the color I wanted in the back room--for only $10--and these pillows are normally $40 up! Soon he came back. "Sorry, I was wrong, " he told me, "the pillow is not $10--it's $6!" I bought it, and it is so perfect in our playroom. Just the perfect color--and normally $80! We were very happy with the store!
late fee after closing account
You think you paid the account in full and closed the account but they will do a daily interest. You WILL get another bill with a ridiculous late fee for a few dollars of the interest that they still charged you AND they intentionally do not tell you about the interest just so that they can assess another late fee.
When you attempted to resolve the problem you will talk to a robot with the corporate lines: can't remove the late fee, it was not the responsibility of the person to tell you about the daily interest, the terms of the account was sent, and that it is not a scam. Well it is a scam!
During the conversation, I googled them - I am NOT alone! Told them that I was filing a complaint on-line and with congress AND that I will NOT shop there again, he removed the late fee!
I have spent thousands of dollars at Peir 1. They will NEVER see me again. Matter of fact, I WILL take some stuff back!

credit card
After looking online regarding how to pay my Pier 1 card off, I saw this site and was enlightened on what appears to be a universal problem. When I applied for this card, it was not because I needed credit or another card — the reason of an extra 10% off the total bill was too enticing, after purchasing furniture. When I received my bill from Pier 1, the bill was late and there was already a late charge against my account. So, too trusting — "perhaps, I missed the first statement." I paid the entire bill and the late fee, "embarrassed." The next time I, unfortunately, shopped at the Miami store — the attendant in the store did it to me again..."you can save 10% with your Pier1 card, if you use it." Wrong! After looking at my receipt, there was no savings. When asked about the savings, "oh, you build rewards!" I explained again, I do not want to use it then, "well, we have already charged it to your card." I left, and assumed my angry position on the service industries idiotic agendas. The next statement was not received and then the next statement was sent late again with another late fee. I-D-I-O-T-S! With a move of residences, and surgery after, I was soon harrassed by Pier1 credit card people at 7:45am, 2 days in a row. The first day, no message, due to some automated call (another bad service idea, but money saving for companies). Today, I answer. The automated service was unable to give me a "live" person to discuss the issue with me. Then unbeknowned to me, I hear there are 2 late fees that have been applied. Wow! So, I hunt down my inactivated card info and call directly. I wait 5 minutes to discuss with "Virginia," the predicament! Well, she was not impressed with anything. "It's not our fault, since you did receive our statement." No wavering of the late payments, not even the one that was only 2 days old. This is not all right! This company Pier1 is not the Chase Card company that I have had an incredible relationship with. The lady could even see how I paid off thousands of dollars within a few months to Chase, but she was adamant regarding the Pier1 card. Nothing I said could change her mind. My nice attitude changed instantly! Now, not only will I slam Pier1, but I will never step foot in their stores again! I will continue to blog on this atrocity of sorts! And I will make a copy of all the online complaints and send them to our Attorney General in Florida! Pier1 Cards will suffer! Unfortunately, Chase Cards is the representing bank holder of this account. My advice: DON'T APPLY FOR YOUR 10% OFF CREDIT CARD, YOU WILL PAY WAY ABOVE WHAT YOU SAVE ON THAT FIRST 10%!
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
Payment was mailed from Kansas to San Antonio on the 2nd of the month. Payment was credited to my account on the 12th. What gives? Well, it's a scam to generate late fees.
I like shopping at Pier 1, but I had always paid cash for purchases. That is, until one day I was offered a "rewards card". The term "rewards card" is very misleading to me, because I have several other rewards cards with other companies, and they are not "credit cards". I applied thinking is was just a discount card because I didn't want another card on my credit that my purchase was charged to the card! That affected my credit rating, and I am very unhappy about that!
I recently purchased furniture worth $3000 at pier 1 Gaithersburg store and the Manager on Duty - Ygdemary, promised me she would give me double rewards points that were available till he following Monday... Due to some issue with their credit card system she could not run the transaction u t after the double reward points had ended at which time she promised me that she wd give me triple reward points that were due to start 10 days later... So I.ed and DVD was not in the store...I called again and she told me that the promotion was o. For just 2-3 days and she can't do anything now...am beginning to think that its a pattern and they just like to use these promotions as a bait n switch and wd say anything g to make the SMS
sale...since the triple reward amount to almost $400 it was a deciding factor in my making the purchase... I flint end to take thick up with BBB and consumer affairs etc
Did you spend $1, 000 at one time? Or all together in separate transactions? With the new point system for every 200 points you earn, you receive a $10 gift certificate in your next billing cycle. If you spent $1000 in one billing cycle then you should receive $50 all together. With the old point system you needed to earn 2000 points for one $20 gift certificate. Since you have spent a over $1000, you will be upgraded to Platinum status and receive 10% off on the first Tuesday of each month when you present your Pier 1 Platinum card at the time of check out. You platinum card should soon arrive in the mail.
Pier One Imports new "reward" program is bullsh***. After spending over $1, 000 I got a whopping $10. Big deal! I can shop other store for better prices. Don't waste your time at pier one
The 10% discount off of your first purchase on the card is no longer offered, so you don't have to worry about not getting your discount. You could have easily returned your items if you wanted and purchased it on another card.
scam alert
Well, Pier 1 already said that they won't help us! We bought an Allegro Sofa on June 2008. By January 2009 the fabric looked bad, stretched, loose.in March one of the springs broke while I was sitting on it. I went to the store and promised that the manager will call me. She did not. I went again. On another occasion I was able to talk to the manager. She...
