Privacy Protection Plus Fraudulent phishing companies

Saving Smart is the same as Privacy Protection Plus and there are many others. Both "companies" charged $31.45 to my credit card. So far, I have only called Privacy Protection Plus to get my refund and as far as I know I will recieve a full refund within 3-5 business days. All I can do now is hold my breath and hope they come through with my refund. I am pretty sure they will though because of what I said to the "manager" "Jon" on the other end. Here's a tip for dealing with these scam companies. Tell them that you know all about their fraudulent company and if they don't refund all your money immediatley, you will be contacting the police. They may refuse at first and start reading the script in front of them about the membership terms and blah, blah, blah. Once again tell them you want a full refund or you will be calling the police and they will most likely oblige. Persistence and the continual mention of police is the key in getting your money back.
Just an addition to my comment above. I just called the number associated with Saving Smart and I talked to the same 2 people I talked too when I called Privacy Protection Plus. I was put through to the same "manager Jon" and once again told him to refund my money and he went through his same script and so on and so on. He agreed to refund my money and when I asked for a confirmation number he gave me the exact same number that he gave me 20 minutes ago through PPP. Needless to say I'm not really counting on my refunds in 3-5 business days, so I guess I really am going to have to call the police.
How are these websites still up and running and why isn't "Jon" in jail?
What do we have to do to shut them down?
It is pitiful that these people can't go out and get a real honest job and make their own money. Instead they have to scam innocent people out of their money.

This website is very deceiving in that it promises a free report on your credit standing, when in effect if you complete the form, you are signing up for continuous reporting capability at a cost of 29.xx dollars per month,
unless you physically cancel within 7 days.
It is a neatly laid trap, and I as well as many others fell into it. You need to call them and cancel, in order to stop the charges

Somehow this company starting charging my Credit Union M/Card...I starting noticing this charge and wondered what the heck that was...I was informed by the M/Card what it was...this ha been 7 or 8 mths and can't get that removed and I am not paying for it either. M/Card now sends me OUTSTANDING NOTICES...good luck...that Privacy Protection Plus...can't get anyone on the phone either...

went online, found a link for a FREE credit report. clicked on it. authorized for a $1 charge. got my credit card bill in the mail today and i now have the $1 charge i DID agree to PLUS a $31 charge i DID NOT agree to or authorize in any way! and I NEVER got any credit report whatsoever! BEWARE OF THESE SCAMMERS! They are NOT legit in any way!

Privacy Protection Plus states that if you try their "30 day trail membership" you will receive a promotional $10.00 cashback with your travelocity reservation (I rented a car) and you must click the link but they have absolutely no such link. Do not fall for this scam.

They deducted $29 on my credit card last Jan 17, 2011, without my knowledge and approval. I am not aware of this 100%. I got a mail from them that I am a member since Jan 25, 2011. Holy cow! They should not deducted any amount on my account prior to my membership on the first place! and without my written approval .

I used a 'free credit report' website to request a credit report. I did not receive the credit report. But a monthly membership charge $30 is showing up on my credit card along with numerous instances of some kind of transaction ($1.50 each) charge.

When you go on line to get a FREE credit report you are automatically going to be signed up for Privacy Protection Plus and it is going to happen even if you indicate NO Thanks in the appropriate box on The Trans Union Form. Yes you can call and cancel but why should you have to when you have already indicated NO THANKS. I believe this should not be allowed.

I just found this same company billing my credit card $29.95 for 2 months dec/jan 2011...I called them using this number [protected], spoke with a guy who told me he just cancelled the membership and I am being refunded my 2 payments within the next 5 days. I didnt creat any atmosphere over the phone, I kept my cool, being nice...lets see if this pays off. The phone number above is a toll free #. Good luck! Lets get these freaken scanners!

"Free Credit Report in Canada" was the advertising - it was only a couple of weeks later that I received a bogus billing on my credit card. The free credit report never worked, as such I did not receive any of their services - and as if any sane person, who is concerned about re-building their credit would pay (or be able to pay) $30 a month for a service - this information is available free under the 'freedom of information act'

It is disgusting that a credit reporting agency whose mandate is to collect and report information on the credit behaviors of consumers and businesses uses this scam to bilk the impoverished out of money.

I have filed a dispute with my credit card, but have not heard back yet.

Privacy Protection Plus Credit Card Fraud

This company get my Credit Card info I DON'T KNOW HOW !
I know this kind of fraudes and never give my Credit Card Numbers to the companies I don't know. I just found today that they have charged to my Credit Card 29.95$. Then I go through my emails and found an email from them dating 9 days ago. Then I never even open this email thinking it was a spam, now I see that I have accepted their offer. which I sure never done.
I filled complaint with my credit card and advised this Privacy Protection Plus that their activity is fraudulent and that I have repported them as so.
It seems that they somehow copied my CC info when I was entering it on another website. And this was done when I just clicked on their AD in Facebook!

Privacy Protection Plus Fraudulent billing

I have been through the system to cancel my Trans union free credit score and have been billed quarterly.After several attempts through their prompted telephone system
they have been of no assistance and the phone gets cut in many attempts.I am furious that a Credit Reporting company used by most banks and financial institutions is in fact an accomplice in this SCAM.Our system is all Scammers and they are all accomplices.I am forced to cancel my credit card.BRAVO TRANS UNION !

The exact same thing has happened to me. I canceled the membership immediately and yet I have been billed for 2 months. I am filing my second complaint with my credit card company.

I have been charged the 29.95 ### charge with out my say so for 6 mo. now thinking that it was my credit card company doing it I didnt notice it because I had a balance I was carrying . Until I looked at my statement closely . now if we all know that it is a scam why the hell are the creditcard companies letting these charges go on the way they do . then they say to protect them selfs that they dont know where these charges come from to tell you the truth I think they are in on the whole thing . its just that no one has been able to prove it . and because they say that they dont know where these charges come from there is no one to connect them to . think about that !

Privacy Protection Plus Unauthorized Billing on credit card

I ordered my Credit Report from TransUnion, and I got it. But a week later I was charge $29.95 by Privacy Protection Plus. I did not authorize this, I did not ask for this 'service'... and when I go to their site I have an member ID...and I can sign in using my postal code...but I get nothing on the site, no service...just some generic information about what a credit report is and in fact am prompted to go to TransUnion for the information...

I called [protected], and after a couple of conversations talked to a helpful woman who politely apologized and assured me the charges would be reversed today.

Give it a try.

Privacy Protection Plus Unauthorized Billing

This company told me I had signed up by clicking a web banner on yahoo and typing my email address in twice as well as my credit card number, yet I was applying for a credit report NOT this. My legal department at my work told me it is in NO way an agreement to keep billing someone $35/month for a service unless you have the persons actual signature, an email does not count.

I called them and they told they would refund me the total amount of over $500 dollars which had been automatically taken off my credit card, little by little, for over a year.

If you see this on your credit card statement, please call Privacy Plus immediatly and have them stop and refund you!

I had thought I was getting a deal on a credit report. Now I'm being billed for 6 months when I canceled the day after I enrolled, because I didn't get the credit report! That's 30 bucks a month for 6 months! I tried to contact them and of course had no response. They're toll free contact number is a total fraud. None of my Id or phone numbers associated with the account were "on file".

Never been scammed before, it's humiliating.

Privacy Protection Plus Unauthorized charges

I was called and asked to sign up for a service in which then they asked for my acct information. I gave information but then was informed that it was going to cost 19.95 per month. I told them no and hung up the phone. 4 months later i noticed money being taken out of my account. I called provided and they gave me 1 month credit because they said that I had authorized and they refused to let me hear a recorded authorization because there wasn't one. they claim i was notified but I WAS NOT NOR DID I AUTHORIZE THE PURCHASE or recieve any service. Then they could not even tell me what service I should have been recieving. This is an outrage as I am on a fixed income and cannot afford to be ripped off! Surely this is illegal and I would like to join in on any lawsuit that may come about.

On my September 2009 statement I noticed a debit to my account of $29.95. I called my credit card company to verify what the charge was for because I know that I have not used my card for any purchases nor authorized any merchant for that matter. I was told that the charges was from a company named "Privacy Protection Plus". I called them and told them that the charges to my account were never authorized, for I do not even know the company. The charges were on August 28 and September 29, 2009 for $29.92 each month. I was told that they will credit my account. On October 13, 2009 my account was credited for only $29.95. In the meantime my credit card company has debited my account for $30.71 including tax. When I called them again, I could not talk to anybody. It was just a voice mail advising me that my account was cancelled. In the meantime I have a balance with my credit card company accrueing interest because of their failure to credit my account for unauthorized charges.

, they will refund if you threaten them with, w-5 and credit card fraud squad as i got 600 back. also use 60 minutes, fifth estate or rcmp. these companys owned by coverdell in montreal are a ripoff and will fold like the sack of [censor] they are just to shut u up..gl lol

I have just been added to the list of unfortunate individuals subjected to this company's shady business practices. I've read a fair amount of others who've complained about this organization, and my story doesn't vary much from theirs.
How can they possibly get away with using a "click on an advertisement" as proof that you wanted to sign up for membership?
When I questioned who authorized this on my credit card, a very non-chalant woman stated that "someone in my household" gave this authorization. When I asked for a name, she said that it was my Hotmail e-mail address they had as authorization!
They also promised to cancel the membership effective immediatly; I requested confirmation that they were going to do just that. I was also suspicious of how quickly they agreed to cancel the membership, no questions asked. I didn't get the chance to ask for a refund -- they hung up on me!
I will be disputing this with the credit card company.

Same here. I signed up for free trial without knowing anything about any kind of membership plan.
After signing up I was redirected to privacy protection plus page confirming my membership which I wasnt aware of.
My wild thoughts which i was getting before signing up became reallity. :|
I started googling about this company and came to know that they are fraud and will start deducting 29$ after a month.
I tried calling them on the number given on website.
Obviously no one was there to answer. The message told me to disconnect the phone and go back to website.
I got hold of them through Trans Union (One of their many partners). And this guy named geyson talked to me.
I got my membership cancelled on the very same day. lets see if they charge me or not..

Dont even think about getting any free credit card report.

Wastage of time and money!

I was the victim of this company based in Des Pleins, Ill . I noticed a weird recurring charge for $14.95 on my VISA for "Privacy Protection" going back over 18 months! As first I thought it was actually VISA charging me for an automatic anti-fraud protection or something. I asked them and they said it wasn't them but provided me with a toll free number to call them. I spoke to a lazy sounding woman at Privacy Plus who said that I had become a member by clicking on a banner on a website. I said I didn't remember doing that or signing up with any fraud protection services. She immediately agreed to reverse the existing charge, and sounded as if this was a regular complaint. I then demanded that I wanted all the charges for the past 18 months reversed and she put me on to a service manager named "Andrew". He also sounded bored and before I really could even complain, agreed to cancel my membership immediately and refund in full the remaining payments I had made within two business days. I am very suspicious that I am not going to get my money back - it was just way too easy ! But then I started to think, it could have been that I paid for something online and clicked on an ad that looked like an offer to research fraud protection or something (I can't remember it was over a year ago), but I know I didn't sign up for anything and I searched through all of my emails from that time and couldn't find ANY membership information being sent to me. I usually don't sign up for these insurance and protection things as I believe they are all a cash grab anyway. The long and short of it is - they are very dubious in how they enroll people - they are either piggy-backing on a legitimate credit card sign up or actually stealing people's numbers and claiming they signed up. The quickness in which they refunded my money no questions asked is just weird. If I had signed up for it, why would they so willingly cancel my membership and refund my money ? They have a sophisticated scam going on and by operating on the somewhat level side with a phone support service they are able to get away with it. I wonder how many people out there don't even think twice about this charge? It's just the right low amount charge and name (privacy protection sounds good right?) to slip under people's radar as a regular VISA service charge. Watch out !

A couple of months ago, I put in an online order for a slapchop. At the end of the order processing a window popped up asking me if I would like to recieve a free 25.00 Canadian Tire Card. I clicked the cancel button. Now two months later, I have a 44.69 US charge in my bank account from privacy protection plus. I had no idea what the charge was for or who the company is, so I called my bank, verified a phone number, called the phone number to find out that the charge was from me clicking "accept" for the offer and that I was automatically enrolled in the privacy protection club. I didn't enroll, nor did I accept anything else. I have called privacy protection, they "say" they will remove the charges in 3-5 business days. We will have to wait and see. If the charges aren't removed, I will be filing a dispute through my bank.

same here just got sucked in to their promise of a free credit report and now after 2 hours of ordealing still dont have my report and was signed up for 2 different auto renewal memberships. Called the company and was transferred to 4 different people finally ending at deb who tells me these memberships are cancelled and I won't be charged. Just have to wait and see waste of time frustration.
what a scam somebody needs to shut these [censor] down

The charges started in January 2017 because of an order I placed through Vistaprint.ca. Apparently, I clicked on something to receive a free $25 Canadian Tire gift card.

From January - November 2017, I was charged $12.95 per month and from December 2017 until March 2017, I was charged $14.95 per month (for a total of $202.95).

I thought I was being charged something from my credit card company but when I called them to enquire about the charges, they told me it had nothing to do with them!

I called Privacy Protection this morning to complain and spoke to 3 people. Finally, Stephanie (the supervisor) credited me for just 5 months. We will see if it actually happens.

I asked Stephanie what these charges are for and she says it's for unlimited access to my credit report. I then proceeded to ask her what does this credit report have to do with a Canadian Tire gift card? I can't remember her answer but it didn't make any sense.

What a SCAM!

CAll them back and threaten to call the better business bureau if they don't immediately refund all charges to your credit card. Your money should show up on the card the next day. Cancel that card ASAP!

Even with the holiday in the US, where my account is kept that they fraudulently took the money, today I see they have returned it all. Needless to say I cancelled the card that is attached to the account so they won't be able to take anymore.

Your comment made me scared of this company even more. However I am relieved that I didnt give up my information myself. I am always careful about protecting my identity and creditcard numbers and after seeing this charge I wasn't sure how thay have got my no.
I think they should be prosecuted for illigally obtainig peoples information.

My 87 year old mother discovered these weird credit card charges on her mastercard for $29.95 "protection plus". She has never given out her credit card number online, never purchases items online and does not use internet banking. I have no idea how they got her address, phone number, email address and credit card number! I can only think that someone is hacking into the bank records.

Privacy Protection Plus Unauthorized access to information

This company is a big scam. I signed for an offer on another website and they were able to access my information, including credit card info from the original website. I was not aware that they could access that when you clicked on their icon. I will be more careful in the future about clicking on icons on any webpage. I also wonder about the integrity of Classmates.com because they allowed this information to be released.

I have the same problem! They made it look like I was still on one site when I was on theirs! I called my credit card company immediately! They couldn't see a charge there. I cancelled the "privacy protection plus account" did get an email saying it was cancelled (in about 5 minutes). Will have to see if charges appear anyway, but now they also have all my personal information (name, address etc) from the website! OMG must be extra extra careful as I'm always supervigilant

Privacy Protection Plus FRAUD - TOTAL FRAUD

Two transactions were Fraudelent on my Bank A/c. I spoke to phone No.[protected] for "PRIVACY PROTECTION PLUS" AND THEY AGREED TO CREDIT BACK THE 2 PAYMENTS THEY TOOK FROM MY VISA A/C on July 14 & Aug 13, 2009. They claim I signed up on July 6 and I said NO WAY as I was in the middle of a family emergency and not interested in this on July 6, or ever! In June I tried to sign up for a "Free Credit Report" in Canada, which did NOT work for me. Almost immediately that service was cancelled and no charges were to occur. PRIVACY PROTECTION PLUS piggy-backed on that transaction to gain access to my account and make these fraudelent charges. Either it was that or the Free Credit Report service is a scam to start with! BEWARE, BEWARE

Privacy Protection Plus Cannot access line to cancel

Have been trying for two days to get through to the number given in order to cancel this supposed service and the line is always busy, day or night . I do not want nor will I pay for this service which I feel I was pressured into getting with the understanding that I could cancel at any time .

For all of you needing to get your membership cancelled here is the toll free number to Privacy Protection Plus [protected]. When you call you will get the run around from the auto-phone system. They don't actually give you the option to press "0" to speak to someone - they keep trying to get you to press other numbers to just go to their website or cancel your membership, but if you are like me and have been charged for months, you need to actually speak to someone to get them to reverse all the charges. They are obviously operating in the grey zone of legality, because they reverse the charges immediately. At least I hope they will ! Let you know in two days!

Privacy Protection Plus bogus billings

ApparantlyI filled out a form online applying for a "free trial" for this credit service last year. I never received any emails regarding their service, nor did anyone contact me. I assumed that the billings I received on my visa card were a bank service, so I didn't question them. I was subsequently billed $29.95 per month. When I was doing my taxes this year I happened to notice this ambiguous charge again and phoned the bank. It was then that I was informed that it was a private company. When I called them they offered me 3 month refund, no explaination of why they don't send monthly billings. Is this business pratice legal in Canada? BE AWARE!

I submitted a form online for a "free credit report" last year. It claimed to provide personal credit history on a trial basis. Apparantly after this trial period regular monthly billings of $29.95 were taken out of my Visa account, even though I never received any verifcation each month by mail or email. The visa billings read: "Privacy Protection", so I assumed that it was a Bank charge for a service provided by the bank. What a scam! I took notice of this item on my visa account while doing my taxes this year and phoned the bank to ask what it was. They reported that it was a private company, and that I would have to appeal to them directly. When I called to cancel they offered no explaination as to why I never received any emails or billings by mail. I asked to speak to customer relations and was told that they would refund 3 months immeadiately. I then told them that I was not satisfied with their offer and that I wanted my money back. They said that they could do nothing more. When I stated that I was going to report them to consumer fraud and online reporting agencies like this one the supervisor Regis #16839 said: "Go ahead, many people complain about MacDonald's food too, and they are still in business". Is this practice legal? Is the internet safe? I believe that it is companies like this one who discourage legitimate business online. They must be forced by law to disclose their billings on credit card statements so as not to be confused with bank charges and they must send a report or statement by mail or email each month! What a RIP!

These crooks have been deducting $29.95 from my credit card every month for something I never even asked for. Their gimic is a 7 day free trial, and if you don't cancel after 7 days, LOOK OUT! Needless to say, they do not make this fact very clear (small print) It's too bac there has to be vermin like this!

Like a lot of you I tried the offer. "Credit report for $1." They charge your credit card within a few days. The charge for mine was $29.95 not $1. You never recieve a confirmation E-mail. All they do is send you to the legitimate credit reporting sites. Once their you have to pay their sign up costs also. Don't believe the ad or the Privacy Protection site offers. They are a rip-off!

I received an email from my pre-paid Visa company that this company had tried to authorize a payment for $34.34. I had inputted my card number on information for a 'free' credit check with guarantees the card would never be charged, it was for verification purposes only.

They phone number they provide for you to cancel your membership within that seven day period is a recording, and does at not point connect you with a representative, it simply tells you to go online. The link to their site from the membership conformation email is a dead link; the url exists but the page is blank. I had to call my credit card company for help figuring out how to contact them. I learned my lesson.

Privacy Protection Plus Fraud

I was on craigslist looking for a new place to live. I found one place that seemed amazing, so I sent an email expressing interest. I was told that due to other tenants not paying rent in the past, a credit report was required. I was provided a link that would give me a free credit report instantly. I followed the link to where it asked for some personal information that I figured needed to be given to do the report, however, when I tried to use the "coupon code" I was given, a pop-up said that I had already used that code to get my free report, and now I was going to be charged $28.xx for the report, plus another $8 processing fee, and another $8 to mail my report. I then left the web page, but was suspicious, since it asked for credit card information, so I googled the site, and a bunch of complaints came up regarding fake charges processed to credit cards. Since this all happened tonight, I have to wait until morning to call my credit card company to make sure that no purchases get processed from them, but so far nothing has shown up. Don't fall for it like I did! If something seems too good to be true, it usually is!

Privacy Protection Plus fraud

I checked my credit card statement the other day, and noticed a couple of weird charges on there that I did not make or authorize. One for $19.95 and the other for $29.95 I called my bank to inquire about them and find out what they were and to get an investigation going. My bank informed me that it was a company called PRIVACYPLUS. They gave me their phone number to contact them and find out more information [protected]. The man that answered the phone went by the name of "ANDY" . He was EXTREMELY rude and insisted that I had signed up for this service to which I had no idea what it was nor did I have the confirmation number/pin they were SUPPOSED to have given me. He talked me in circles for about 15 minutes. I finally told him that if he DID NOT take the charges off of my credit card and cancel my account I would be phoning the police. He finally agreed to reverse the charges and let some information go that they had gotten my information off of CLASSMATES when I had signed up for my gold membership. I do remember now that as soon as I entered my credit card info on CLASSMATES, a pop up came up for CREDIT HISTORY CHECK. I DID NOT sign up for the service nor did I enter in ANY information. I closed the site and went on with my day. SOMEHOW CLASSMATES is giving out credit card information! I hope this can be taken care of so that nobody else gets taken by these lowlifes!

for the last 4 months a charge of 29.95 has been charged on my Visa from AP9*privacyprotection. I never ordered this service!. I called Visa and they routed me to this company to ask about the charges, they said I had ordered it ON LINE..Not correct. I asked how to get refunded for the 3 months I had paid this, and they said they would only refund one payment. I asked to cancel everything. I also got visa to issue me a new card. I would like to know how I can get my money back.

The exact same thing happened to me. There are two charges on my credit card for $31.45 each. One is from Privacy Protection Plus and the other is from Saving Smart. Both websites are the exact same but with different colors. Also the phone numbers under the business name on my credit card statement do not match the "Contact Us" numbers on either website. They had better cancel my so called membership, that I never even signed up for, and return all my money or I will be calling the police.

This company has charged my credit card for 19.95. They have informed me that I signed up for a 7 day trial period. If I didn't cancel within the 7days then I would be considered to have signed up. However I do not recall applying for this trial and I have no email correspondence from them nor do I have any paper mail from them.

We also found the same charges stemming from when my gf joined Classmates.. we just called the 888 number on her credit card statement and to have it stop all she had to do was enter her postal code? hmmm no live person. These charges go back over the last 2yrs.

Privacy Protection Plus Does not provide service

Says that it will provide free credit reports. Takes a credit card number and then emails a link to a website containing only marketting information about supposed services. No report or rating is provided despite clear claims that reports would be "immediate" and "free". Appearently you have to call some number to not be billed. Emails just re-ask you to call that number.

This website is misleading. It advertises Free Credit Report. I found nothing free. Instead I was charged a fee on my credit card even though I did not authorize it. This site catches you by having you fill out the information form, then upon submitting you are transferred to a payment page. You have to pay their fee to get your results. If you decide not to continue and close out the payment page, they will charge your card for a membership which is a revolving membership account. You will be charged every month unless you cancel it. When you supply the information on the form, you are under the belief the credit report is FREE as stated. On the payment page I did not see any link to accept, confirm or authorize the charge to your card. If you don't want to continue, hit your back button and delete the information, then close out the site. However, I have to say I had no problem in cancelling my account when I phoned them (so far). I commend them for that.

I thought i was getting a free credit report on this site not the case. They have there site set up in such a way that you give your credit card number and then after say that you have 15 days free membership and if you dont check your e-mail they automatically charge your credit card. Not what you think you are getting at all big scam to steal your money right under your nose! Good thing i caught on! Everyone beware of these scavengers. Thank you.

1. Ask you to register a "free" membership ID with 7-days trail, in the mean time, your personal information (name and address plus credit card number)
2. within 7 days, you will never get any service from the website even you could use your ID and "password" to login.
3. within 7 days, you will never be able to "cancel" your membership by the "customer service" number they provided in the email.
note: that is one of the way you get charged "offically" by them because you didn't "cancel" your membership within 7 days (regardless if you could or could NOT)
4. if you use the email they sent to you for confirmation for your ID (even they said it is automatically generated by system), you will get a email later to "confirm" your ID was "cancelled"
5. about 7 days 9at least) later, one of condition will happen.
A. Normally, your cridit card(the one you used online) will be charged anout one month later

B.if you already cancelled the credit card you used to register, one of other credit card will be charged about 29.95 CAD (even you had never exposed this number online)

Suggestion:
1). Pay close attendtion to your recent monthly statement of all of credit cards.
2). Report to your credit card comapny immeditately if some statement is not recongnized.
3). Make sure imform all of your credit card company to CANCEL your current one and re-issue new immediately.

Privacy Protection Plus Scam billing

Tried to do a free trial for credit report but it did not work. Since I used a 'garbage catcher' email to sign up for the free trial, I never checked nor acknowledged their email. It wasn't until I called them to cancel the charges after I noticed 3 monthly charges for $29.xx that they told me I had acknowledged an email. That is not true! They said they would cancel the latest charge but not the first two months. I have also filed a report with my credit card company to dispute these charges that I did not agree to.

The more people that make this complaint, the better the chances are that a class action suit could be raised since however they are creating these mythical memberships is surely fraudulent and certainly unethical.

Thanks for listening to my rant. Hope no one else gets burned.

Well I am also with MBNA. I had gotten a phone call a while back from a lady presenting me this offer working with the MBNA bank. They made me agree, and I said yes. Was a free month and then an annual charge. But then I felt suspicious of the phone call. I called MBNA and they told me I should cancel the card and issue a new one since I didn't know what company I was really dealing with at the time. This was exactly ONE hour after the InfoProtector phone call. So I have a new card WHICH I haven't even activated yet!

Today I logged once again in my MBNA account. And to my surprise I see a charge of $117 and some change. Again I have not yet even ACTIVATED my brand new card number yet.

How did they get my NEW account number?

I called MBNA tonight and told them about that transaction. The man directed me to somebody from InfoProtector. Got a fast response. Asked me my name, phone number and address to verify, Explained my situation. Told her that i cancelled my card at the time so I can avoid any weird business. She asked me when I cancelled my card. I told her ONE hour after the phone call. She finally said she will refund the amount by my next statement.

Something very fishy here. I will update you all with what happens here.

So I've just got off the phone with my credit card company coming yo the understanding that I've been charged for the past 5 years for a service which I taught have been provided by my credit card company. I spoke with mvq and they told me that I've signed up online at "spend on line.com" which I've never heard of. So every one here that have gotten your account frauded by this company do yourseves a big favor and get a new credit card. I still can't believe someone can rip you off for almost $2500 and get away with it.

I think its understandable to blame consumers for not reading fine print, and so on. However, we were charged for 8 months from PPP, and we asked them to send us evidence of how they got our credit card details and proof on enrolment. What came in the mail showed our details, date & time of "enrolment", but no information as to our consent, the website address, our phone number, and so on. Essentially, they had NO EVIDENCE that we had ever given consent to "sign up"
We got our money back in 3 days after I stated I'd report them.
For those of you who were told by PPP that you "enrolLed" - ask them for the evidence in writing of this, where you consented to the terms & conditions and I will guarantee in most cases that you never did sign up.
Never allow a company to take money from your credit card without proper agreement, the more people they need to refund, the more likely this company will stop fraudulent practices.

This is absolutely a scam. I called my VISA company, and as soon as I mentioned Privacy Protection Plus the lady at VISA immediately told me to call their 1-888 number. She didn't even skip a beat - it must be a common thing. When I called Privacy Protection Plus, a lady picked up and asked for my membership number. I obviously didn't have one, so she searched for my account via my email. When she found my account, she could tell me exactly what charges were made, and when. I asked her to cancel the membership, which again was done without pause. She tried to end the call after that, but I kept on and asked her for a confirmation number for the cancellation. She gave me a 4-digit number. I then asked her what website the charges were coming from (as far as I could tell from my conversation with VISA, PPP works through other websites). She told me it was a charge from freecreditreport.com. After talking with her for a few more minutes, I asked again where the charge came from. This time she told me it was peoplefinders.com. I asked to speak with a manager. The manager came on and I asked her the same question. This time the answer was spinonlife.com. I was starting to get angry at this point but in the interest of getting my money back, I played it cool. I asked to be refunded for the charges on my VISA. The manager immediately did this, and tried to end the call. I kept on and asked her for a confirmation number for the VISA refund, and reiterated several times the fact that it was going to be credited to my VISA account. Again, I got my 4-digit confirmation number and a "yes, it's going to your VISA account within 2-3 working days". I couldn't think of anything more to say, so the call ended. Thankfully, my refund showed up on my VISA about a week later.

5 things you MUST do when you call PPP:
1) have them cancel your membership
2) get a confirmation number for the cancellation
3) have them tell you where the charge came from (if possible, ask a customer service person, and then compare their answer to the answer of a manager)
4) ask them to refund the charges to your credit card
5) get a confirmation number for the refund

well i just went though that ### too and its not refunded bak to you i never even have a computer or phone in Dec they said it was done dec 20 then when i called they hung up on my and then i called VISA they just told me is canelled i dont know but PPP needs to go down and give us our money back im a student and i dont need 200 or more money taking out of my card i couldnt even know what was taking because i didnt even have my online banking yet thanks ###s

i use to work for memberworks, i hated it with a passion:

listening to you people rant all day and hearing the following excuses and stupid explanation:

"the website is confusing"
...well, read the directions!

"i didn't know what i was getting into"
...terms and condition

"my 2 year old did it"
...the dumbest one i ever heard

"no one in this house signed up for this, how id you get my information?"
...a ghost did it i tell you! either that or your credit card grew arms and legs while you were sleeping and walked its [censor] to the computer!

"i don't understand english or french"
...if you don't understand then why the hell are you giving then your credit card number, not understanding is no excuse.

etc.

now i work for a credit card company (job change), i am now a credit analysis (i approve and refuse credit) and i have to say i refuse about 90% of applicants ...why? well, it depends on what i see on your credit report, most of the population have bank ruptcy, collections, or are in huge debt! most of the population can not be trusted with the bank's money, sorry!

as for me, i don't have a credit card...never signed up for one! it saves me a bunch of hassel!

Signed up with CLASSMATES.COM, didn't check my credit bill closely enough, just realizing THE SAME, been charged 19.95 TWICE! for credit card protection and 24hour assistance. Classmates replied back saying i agreed to a 3 month free trial and then had to cancel. i thought it was for their membership not these scamming companies! I am furious. Please get a class action going! I will be checking back for more recommendations on what to do! This has gone on for months! These con artists need to be stopped!

Privacy Protection Plus I was charged without knowing my member id.

I was lead to the privacy protection from a "free credit report" website. After submitting my information I was not able to see any thing, even without knowing my member id, the privacy protection charged me for 29.95 dollar already. I'm requiring the company to cancel my member ship as soon as possible and pay back my money as I never used service.

What a complete load of crap! no matter who i talked to i couldn't actually get a straight answer as to exactly what service they provide, beyond there line of exclusive club for credit protection.. WTF is that? And $30 a month! Why would anyone need this when your Visa already has built in protection! Well lets see if I do get my refund and its Canceled... No idea how they acquire this info but its DEFINITELY not legal!

We are having the exact same problem with this company. They have been taking out money for MONTHS and when we noticed I called and told them to cancel. They said they would cancel the "membership" but then I noticed charges again the next month. They have been stealing $29.95 a month plus $1.00. The company phone number is [protected] and the website is www.24protect.com. We are in the process of filing a complaint with the attorney general in Illinois, which is where they are based according to the website and with our own state's attorney general. Also going to file a fraud investigation with our bank.

I don't know how they got our credit card number or how we suddenly had an account but I have a suspicion that somewhere along the line when purchasing something legitimately, our card number was given to this company and a hidden membership was attached to our card. I have no idea how this could be legal! I am so angry! We are out hundreds of dollars!

Today I noticed the $29.95 Charge on my VISA. I spoke with my wife who stated she was on some Free Credit Report site and gave them her CC Number.

I called the toll free number [protected], and expressed my displeasure and demanded they refund the $29.95 and to ensure they cancel her membership. The Agent named Dustin stated the refund should be on the VISA within 2 Business Days and her membership canceled.

I called VISA, and they have heard about this company many times, and stated that the charges are MONTHLY charges, and that if I see any future charge to contact them immediatley.

I had the EXACT same issue. I had a charge for $19.95 from AP9*PRIVACYPROTECTION. I called the number that my credit card company gave me [protected]. I told them if the charges were not taken off of my visa, I was going to charge them with fraud. They told me it would be put back within 5 business days. They told me they got my credit card info through CLASSMATES! So be careful when purchasing "gold" membership through them. I then called visa back and explained the situation and they now have an investigation going. They told me there are MANY people having the same issue with the same company!

Yesterday, I also called the company and asked for them to return my money.
First, one employee told me they had noticed me with an email, so I told him I had not known that.
And he told me they would return the money.
I checked my email later, and there was an email from the company.
It contains.. a lot of contents, but the notice about the charge was just two lines in the middle with a few words.
I don't know what the heck they do. Why did I have to call them to get my money back?
I think I I will have to cut off my credit card cause it was already stolen by the legitimate company which legally charges someone's money without his or her permission.

i just looked at my visa statement and found out that i was charged for this, i went and looked up the website and found their number and called them. they said they would give back my money within 5-7 business days. here's the number i called [protected].
