STATE OF FLORIDA NEEDS TO IRADICATE PROGRESS ENERGY AND THEIR MONOPOLY OVER THE ENERGY BUSINESS- THEY ARE A RIP OFF- 1) RATES ARE UNUSUALLY HIGH- THEY MADE ME MAKE A DEPOSIT ON MY ACCT IN ADDITION TO THE PREVIOUS ONE 10 YEARS AGO AND STILL HAVE NOT REFUNDED THAT DEPOSIT. PAYMENTS ARE MADE ON TIME. WAS OUT OF TOWN AND DIDN'T REALIZE BILL HAD NOT BEEN PAID- NOT THAT I DIDN'T HAVE THE MONEY- WHEN I SAW THE TRUCK PULL UP TO TURN ELECTRIC OFF- I IMMEDIATELY CALLED PROGRESS ENERGY TO FIND OUT WHY- THIS IS WHEN I LEARNED I INADVERTANTLY DIDN'T PAY THE BILL- I PAID THAT SAME DAY AND THEY WOULD NOT REVERSE THE RECONNECT FEE- THIS IS BY FAR THE GREEDIEST COMPANY IVE EVER DEALT WITH.

Same thing for me except that I lost my job and recently and for six months have been struggling to ends meet. I have been a customer for 10 years prior and never missed. Within the 6 months had my power turned off once and paid bill the same day. Now I have to put and extra $165 deposit on top of the $200 already there and deal with the rate increases. I just can't believe that a company you are forced to do business with can do whatever they want whenever they want without notification and without regulation.

Wow, we recently recived a second reading of 95.00 dollars in the mail on top of the bill we paid..then we recived a cut off notice for 418 dollars, our service was disconnected . We called and were informed we had to pay the 418 to reconnect and pay 543 within 5 days for another deposit or our lights would be turned off again.. no one helped us, we have small kids and had to pay it..

I agree 100% I am a single mother of four and just got custody of my grand child who is 2yrs old and desperately needs the electricity because he has a health problem(asthma ) that requires treatments 2 home 3 times daily by nebulizer machine, I hav ebeen with progress energy for over 10 yrs and three days ago they didnot sent me a bill, pulled up to my yard no notice on door or anything disconnected my lights within minutes and drove away, I clled immediately and told them that they had a certified docment from his physician stating that he need s this electricity because if his health and I had been laid off since 11/08 and only receiving unemployment benefits while currently job hunting, The representitive looked up my account, laughed at me on the phone, told me that I had t pay $378.00 reconnect fee on top og the $800 bill that I didnot received, when I asked to speak to the vice president she laughed and hung up no one as of yet has helped me either and I am willing to contact The president of the united states and make him aware of progress energy, I can't choose another company because progress energy service all parts of the community that I live in;and to be honest yes I inten to sue Progress energy.

I was shut off the other day for being behind on bill. BUT i have been paying on the account as early as last week and other payments prior to that. . That's not the best part...after speaking to 3 different people and I get a so called supervisor who tells me my service was actually turned off 3 weeks earlier and apparantly we have been STEALING unauthorized electricity. That my husband or myself illegally reconnected the electric and tampered with the meter. WE ARE FURIOUS! I have no problem with paying for usage. BUT to be accused of something I didn not do! No one came to my house 3 weeks ago and disconnected me. AND on top pf the 40 dollar reconnection fee. They wasnt me to pay anothe 83 dollars for the investigator they sent to find out why we still have service. AND they have a 450 dollar deposit on my account. Every person I spoke to was nasty. I am still working on proving we didn't touch the meter AND that no one came to disconnect before the other day.
I just found out today, that Progress did the same thing to my friends son just a few weeks ago. Best part of that...Her son hadn't even moved in to his apartment yet, but was accused of illegally turning on the power for the apartment.
Something very fishy going on here and I lan on getting to the bottom of this!

I got a bill today for almost 300$. One bedroom apartment, less than 1000sq ft. Wasnt even there for 3 weeks of the 34 days - so there were no lights on and the ac was turned down. WTF!? North Carolina needs to kick them to the curb too.

I have been a customer of Progress Energy since before it was Progress Energy. Several months ago my wife over look paying the bill. The turned the lights off, so my wife called immediately to have them turned on. We recieved a bill in the mail for $650.00 Deposit on top of the $350.00 dollar bill. I called and they were very nice and basically told us to bad. I ask to speak to the Supervisor, He said there was nothing he could do. I am the only one in the family that works, because we have a handicapped child that my wife has to stay home with. It was either lights or food. We needed the lights on. Orlando is hot. Now this month I received a bill in the mail for $742.00 regular bill. I think PE is padding some pockets in florida goverment. I really think the Feds should investigate this Company or shall I say Monopoly.

I think it's funny that you a lot of you say you did "not receive a bill"...well you obviously know that you have to pay a bill every month...if you don't receive a bill go online or call them...it's not rocket science, and its a poor excuse to complain... I laugh at most of your "problems" because most of them wouldn't have occurred if you put a little effort into it.

@Trevmal & @maryann1804--
Yeah, I still live at home...thats why I am posting here...how did you guess?! Actually I was out on my own, working 2 jobs and living on my own at 16. My parents were drug addicts and ended up going to jail for 10 years on drug related crimes. If that did anything for me...it made me appreciate everything I have and made me a strong person - who I am today actually! Like I said in my first post, you just keep coming up with excuses. I see homeless people on the side of the road begging for money...why? Don't give me this "econmy" bull...there are jobs out there...might not be your dream job...but beggers can't be choosers. I have come from nothing, and have become something. I worked my way up the latter and have a wonderful high paying job that I enjoy going to each day. And you know what? Anyone can if you put your mind to it. I'm not trying to make enemies...just trying to open your eyes. Stop blaming everyone else for your problems...take charge!

Progress Energy is a terrible company, that should be investigated by the federal government. They have rude service phone representatives, idiots for supervisors...I mean these people probably never graduated high school. They overcharge for their deposits...some people can't help that they do not have a credit score over 700. I wish we had prepaid electricity in NC, because I would be willing to pay 150%-200% more than I currently pay to just not deal with Progress Energy. Sadly if our state governments would take control they could regulate the electric companies and save the state residents from being "raped and screwed." I can't wait until another means of electricity is formed and puts Progress Energy out of business! But for now we all have to deal with their abusive means of regulating their own company and policies. Good luck everyone!

I am still waiting on my deposit to be returned . Disconnected power . They say they are applying it to another account I have . Well that's not legal we have a separate deposit . I have contacted the state of Florida department of regulations . Will see if I get my deposit back . I hope they can help . Mind you we do not owe a bill on the closed account and they other account is in good standing . There email is . Contact@Psc.state.Fl.us . They regulate the laws for utilities in Florida .
