I have had "Worry Free" coverage for this water heater ever since it was installed over 10 years ago. It stopped working as of yesterday 11/25/23 and when the technician came today, he deemed it unrepairable and stated PSE&G does not cover replacement. For more than 10 years, I have been paying for protection on this water heater. The water heater worked smoothly and I never had to file a single claim till yesterday. On the only day I needed protection for this equipment, PSE&G denied coverage completely leaving all the burden and "worries" including finding a contractor and all expenses on us. It's the start of winter in NJ with no hot water and a 3yo toddler in the house. More than 10 years of coverage all wasted for nothing. What is the whole point of the protection plan then?
American Water Resources offer a similar plan with up to $1000 for repair or replacement cost. They have sent offers in the mail but I ignored them assuming PSE&G is a bigger company and will be better equipped when claims come.
It would be fair if the company refund the premium paid for the water heater over its lifetime if they are not willing to pay for any of the repair or replacement. The other solution is to pay a partial of the cost to replace the new water heater. Otherwise, the whole protection plan is really just a big scam.
Claimed loss: $1000+ for replacement of new water heater; $500 loss of insurance premium paid over lifetime of water heater.
Desired outcome: It would be fair if the company refund the premium paid for the water heater over its lifetime or pay a partial of the cost to replace the new water heater.
