On 12/28/22 after work I went to this Publix location to buy a few things. When I went to check out since I had very few items in my cart I got in the express line.
I will not use the SELF CHECK OUT REISTERS!
The cashier was checking someone out at the time, and she said ma'am do you have 10 items or less-my reply was-I do not know I didn't count them, but I am not checking myself out. Of all the time I have shopped at Publix I have never had an employee who wanted to push this issue or argue with the customer. I almost walked out. This is absolutely ridicules that she wanted to argue with me, to get in another line. I thought Publix would not be like the rest of the competition to SELF CHECKOUT. I will not use them! I had a total of 16 items in my cart! This cashier needs to know it is not appropriate to say anything out of the way to a customer for very few items. If anything, if you have self checkout do away with the 10 item register. You know your prices are far more than other grocery stores, and I go to Publix because of the convenience of closeness of my home, friendliness, and actually having someone check my groceries out and I get flack from a cashier because I have 16 items in my cart instead of 10 and I'm in her line-keeping her from sitting back down on her tail on a stool.
This has been the worst customer service that I have experience from this Publix since you have opened this store in Dothan, Al.
Desired outcome: I would ask you; what is your desired outcome of this situation? I was not ugly to your cashier and did not say anything out of the way, except I will not use the self-checkout.
Perhaps you should face the reality that the “customer is always right” statement has spoiled everyone. Customers such as yourself have become so soft from being pandered to and given everything you’ve ever wanted that you don’t know how to act when someone calls you out on your selfish behavior.
Bottom line, the world does not revolve around any one certain person. The sooner we all recognize that fact and act accordingly, the better off we will all be as a nation.
OP i have shopped at publix since i was little. Express line has always been for 10 items or less. when they added self check out it did not change. the cashier was right to remind you of what the express line sign says.
I did not ask for your opinion. Mind your own business. You must be the rude employee that I dealt with or work for Publix. I have had an issue before when I had more than ten items.
Um i have mentioned before that I work IT and not for any grocery store. all i did was google/bing/search engine your situation and posted the results which say what we all have stated. during the pandemic a worker on express line got in trouble for allowing more than 10 items in the express line. i am being very understanding and kind with my responses. as far as this complaint we have satisfied the request as Customers [which we are] to explain the reason for the refusal by the staff.
ALSO my response is not a opinion its verbatim from the Publix website and other sources on express lane. By posting on complaints board you are requesting for anyone to offer advice on how your issue can be resolved. we have given the reason and you appear to not want our answer which is cool it is your right to not accept the advice.
Sadly this incident made me so angry that I took my anger out on my elderly grandma. My father encouraged her to press charges so I lied and said he did things to me in the shower.
You went in the line with 16 items. You are wrong not the cashier. I mean she may have let it slide if it were one to two extra, not six. Just follow the rules and she would not have argued with you. If they let everyone break the rules it would not be fast. We all know that if someone had more than 10 items you would be complaining they let them go through. But you think that you can get away with it. If people use the self-checkouts they expect to go through fast. They do not expect entitled people to not follow the rules. The cashier here was right for calling you out.
