Quest Diagnostics secondary insurance billing

Quest does the blood work for my doctor's office. The phlebotomists are always great. However, they really need to reassess their billing process. First, my doctor's office gives them mine and my husband's primary and secondary insurance. Every year we get a bill after only the primary insurance has been processed. And every year we have to call them and give them our secondary insurance. They told me that we had to call every year to give them the secondary insurance information for billing. They had no reason why. This is ridiculous and I have never had any health provider operate like this. Lastly, calling their customer service phone number puts you into a loop of "press 1 for this or press 2 for that". No option to speak to a human being (pressing 0 didn't work). I finally navigated thru their menus and figured it out. This is highly irritating knowing that I have to do this every year, when they are already given our secondary insurance information. I feel like they are trying to dupe people into thinking their primary and secondary insurances were billed so people will pay an incorrect bill.

My husband went for the pre op tests for a lung lobectomy in March.. Among the ordered test are the cholesterol tests which they said medicare rejected therefore secondary insurance BC & BS would reject. Each time weekly tests for coumadin levels, we are insulted in front of other clients for having an outstanding bill. I have called the physician and quest. The billing and physician need to clear this up but incompetence has prevailed.. The staff are unprofessional, embarrassing and in the case today insulting. Someone needs to step in and monitor patient care with quest. It is bad.

Quest Diagnostics billing issues/harassment

On 4/22/13 My physician had requested I get blood drawn at California Pacific Medical Center/Sutter Health Medical Facility (CMPC). CMPC has their own lab. My bloodwork covered under charity-care" program that CMPC administers for non-insured/low-income patients. . However CMPC sent some of the tests to Quest Diagnostics (vitamin levels). Quest sent me a bill for $223.60. I wrote to them- explained about the "charity-care" and they responded the bill was my responsibility since my doctor ordered tests.Quest kept calling my home- and sent me bilss over and over. Last week a representative of Quest threatened me that if they did not receive full payment by 10/06/13- they were going to report me to credit bureaus and put my account into collections. Quest is totally unreasonable, unsympathetic, and downright nasty. I want an apology from them and for them to leave me alone. Quest's beef is with CMPC- as their contract is with them- not me. I never agreed for Quest Diagnostics to test my blood. Invoice [protected]

hello all, reading all of these different complaints makes me very leary of going to Quest, I have made numerous attempts to check my appt time, and YOU CAN NOT GET ANYONE ON THE PHONE, I was supposed to have a blood draw at my clinic, Quest Tech was so far behind with people, mind you I had to fast, this guy has at least 5-6 people ahead of me, and bad attitude to match, so silly me thought I would try another location, we shall see, will come back to this site and let you know.

I had my blood drawn by an in network lab by my in network doctor and they sent it to an out of state Quest lab. nobody informed me they would be sending it out and Quest says I owe them over $5, 000.00

Quest Diagnostics employee rudeness

I have had my blood drawn many times at this Quest Diagnostics location. Time and time again I am shocked at the rudeness and lack of interest on the part of the technicians who are employed there. The individuals are rarely the same people each time I go, but what doesn't change is how poor the employees are in treating the patients. As I have sat in the waiting area and observed...I see the employee mutter & mumble instructions for signing, shove papers in front of people to be signed, look as though they hate their job and hate having to deal with any people. They appear completely uninterested and make patients feel like they have interrupted and ruined their day! This particular location is especially bad. I have gone to other Quest locations and found them to be slightly better but not by much.
I suggest some kind of training be given to these employees, teaching them to greet patients with a least a good morning and a smile. It would be nice if they could be a little more tolerant of the elderly who are often hard of hearing, having sight issues, mobility issues, confusion. Instead I see a total lack of compassion! Absolutely deplorable!

I totally agree with you.
I have taken my wife for tests many times to this location in the past 3 months and every time they draw the blood they make a mistake.
She has swollen needle points. They don't check the vein properly. Once the pulled the needle and scratched her arm.
Its terrible. Its like a bunch of amateurs doing the job. They are very rude and don't even greet or apologize for the mistake. My spouse and I have decided never to go to this location again.

Quest Diagnostics med insurance claim

I, Celestina Muehr, was seen by Quest Diagnostics to have some exams done and they billed by Primary Insurance Aetna and they paid for part of it, and they claim they billed my Secondary Insurance Tricare Prime, and Tricare said they would not pay it without an Explanation Of Benefits or EOB. Tricare says they never sent it, and Quest said they tried to, and so because of a stupid communication error, I am being forced to pay a bill I shouldn't have to. I contacted Tricare and they said it is the responsibility of Quest Diagnostics to send the EOB, and I recontacted Quest Diagnostics, and they said it's not their responsibility anymore, according to Sicilia whom I spoke to. I asked to speak to the supervisor and all I got was an answering machine, and I left a message and they never returned my call, because they don't care.

Quest Diagnostics mislead with false information

When I originally signed with this health insurance company in April of 2012, I was told that i was automatically covered and ONLY responsible for a $20.00-$30.00 co payment. When i received my first invoice from the lab, I was disgusted and shocked to see such an outstanding balance. I further went ahead and immediately called Beech Street Payor, where they had explained to me that i was in fact not responsible for a co-pay, but for 25-30% of my bills, doctors and lab fees, ect.. Not only was i mislead with this false information, but i was also talked into signing up and paying monthly for this insurance company. If i was told from the beginning the correct information. I would have never signed up for this company. Months and many outstanding bills later, it was to my knowledge that i was in fact responsible for OVER 60% of any doctor or lab fees. Once again i was lied to And mislead with your companies information. I attempted to call Beech Street to resolve this matter and was unable to reach ANY of the 7 1800 numbers i was provided with at the beginning of my sign up. Some numbers were fraud and others were disconnected. Therefore I feel that i am not responsible for any percentage of this outstanding balances. Please take into consideration that i was not only mislead more than once with your companies information, but was also being charged monthly on my credit card for 6 months, at a cost of $190.90 per month. I was further credited 2 months after i realized this has become a legal situation where i can not get in touch with anyone from this company

LAB MAY NOT BE CODING BILL CORRECTLY...DOCTOR CAN PROVIDE STATMENT TO INSURANCE CARRIER AFTER EOB RECEIVED WITH PARTICULAR TEST(S) NOT COVERED; DR JUSTS NEEDS TO FAX STATMENT OF MEDICAL NECESSITY OVER TO INSURANCE.

Yes, I have also had many of the same problems with lab(s) and especially the one everyone is commenting about currently. I just got a new form of incorrect billing...for a urinalysis
test...Well as one other responder pointed out, CHECK YOUR BILLS. I have so many different labs off and on I tend to forget. However, I have gotten tired of them billing my medicare disability policy and then sliding over a huge co-pay or worse yet, a non-covered bill. Yes, of course at full price, no discounts here! Well I got them this last time, I didn't have a urine sample done, nada, not me, no money here, still have to call and TELL THEM THIS BIT OF INFO. We'll see how that goes. The other piece of information I wanted to pass on to others is when the lab states or your insurance denies a specific test is not covered...take it up with your doctor who requested the work. My doctor KNOWS not to order unnecessary tests; if he DOES order a test it is due to a health problem that is ongoing or a health concern that is currently causing problems making it necessary to have... such as a lipid panel test (for bad fat in your blood) maybe the 2nd one in a year (anyway more than the insurance allows), when the lab tries to hit you for the cost up front tell them NO, and when it probably comes back from insurance as not covered, take it to your provider, your doctor that ordered it and have him send over to the insurance company a statement as to why this test was medically necessary and bet you it gets paid. Mine always have, my mom's and all my friends so for. I was a licensed insurance agent for over 25 years prior to disability so I have recalled some of the 'extra mile' hikes you gotta' take if you want to keep your credit clean. They are nasty for sure! They make horrible mistakes, they don't give refunds when you are owed (that is why I would never, ever give money up front to them) and they make billing harder than it has to be as to the last item I brought up as to how to get it paid. That work your doctor ordered should have been, could have been coded correctly to the insurance carrier for the coverage to be allowed but you all have already figured it out...more money if they get from private pay, YOU! So they don't put down what many times the doctor has already coded (CORRECTLY) as medically necessary. PITA! Hope all goes better and I hope I don't have to get my doctor jumping on them over a 'phantom urine test'!

Quest Diagnostics quest diagnostics can't seem to keep track of their payments

I had a biopsy done in January of 2012. I received and paid in full an $80 bill on February 27, 2012. The following month I received another bill for the same procedure with a different invoice number. This second invoice shows my insurance paid the bulk of the bill and I owed $8.48. They owe me a credit! Why on earth would they change the invoice number? I have been trying to straighten this out with them since February. I’ve lost track of how many calls, I’ve made and the people I’ve talked and nobody can figure this out. It’s now October 22nd and they want to send me to collection since they are unaware of where the payment went. I’ve had the doctor’s office provide faxed information, as well as my bank, who faxed the cancelled check (both sides) AND they are still lost. I’ve provided copies of both invoices, what the hell do they want? They shouldn’t be in business if you can’t find $80 in 7 months. I’m so ticked with these idiots right now; I don’t know what to do. They are going to ruin my credit because they are incompetent!

Quest Diagnostics demands an open credit card for medical servicess

Quest thinks that Co-pay is now Pre-Pay!
Their new policy is to demand that you leave your credit card number with them. They claim that your account will be billed sometime between 1 and 6 weeks later. They do not guarantee that your account will remain secure.
Co-Pay does not mean Pre-Pay! This policy makes it very difficult for the consumer to plan ahead, as he/she does not know how much they will be billed. This policy discriminates against low-income families and senior citizens.
This policy is designed solely to produce revenue for Quest Diagnostics.

Quest Diagnostics- Center Moriches
First, went to Quest labs with an appointment. There were only (4) people in the waiting room yet they made me wait 45 minutes past my appointment time. They have the place staffed by only one (1) person.

Then went back to Quest to drop off the specimen. Got there a couple of minutes before 11AM. That employee was hanging in the doorway (evidently there were no patients and she was waiting for her 1100 lunch hour). When she saw me get out of the car with the Quest specimen box in my hand (I parked right in front of her) she closed and locked the door, and would not answer when I knocked. I called the main number and they called her, but she wouldn't answer the phone. 15 minutes later, while I was still on the phone, she walked out and refused to take the specimen. So I left it in front of the door. If they analyze it great. If they don't and it affects my treatment I'll sue. I also filed a complaint with the company, but they haven't bothered to respond. On Monday I'll file complaints with the AMA and the BBB.

Bottom line: KEEP AWAY FROM QUEST LABS. If they want to run a skeleton staff and inconvenience their patients screw them. Let them run no staff and get the hell out of the business.

Quest Diagnostics overcharge

Quest charges 3 to 4 times the price of lab work as requested by your physician for normal blood/stool than other local labs. Question your bill! My daughter had 1 vial of blood drawn and a stool sample taken. They were sent from florida to california? Really? And 2 tests that should have cost me $215.00 at the most, were billed for $750.00. Don't bother to call in, they just read the bill to you, yes, the bill you are looking at. They use big phrases, such as "I don't know" and "I guess so". You will not be transferred to anyone who knows anything, because no one can give a straight answer. Americans, please, even if you have the best insurance in the world, go over each and all of your bills, and question everthing! This is a huge reason so many can't afford to get insurance, rip off artists like quest diagnostics.

I made the mistake of asking my Doc for a homocysteine test along with my usual blood work, my Ins. company uses Quest, never thought to ask them first, big mistake most labs charge between 69 to 50 dollars for that test, so my ins co denied payment with the magical comment "experimental" that test can detect potential heart or stroke potential so having a number of health issues thought a good idea, well Quest charged me 218.00 with no recourse, told them that test can be had for far less and if insurance covered it they would take contracted price to no avail think they are a disgrace to do that to seniors or anyone else my husband still works he is in his 70's because we need the money and use to have very good ins at work, besides medicare but now the Government and insurance companies decide your destiny

I am very disappointed with the cost of lab work at Quest Diagnostics….I have no health insurance and received a prescription from my Dr. for lab work so I priced the lab work before I committed to a lab… at Quest, I was quoted $796.00 for blood work and went to another well known lab in the neighborhood and the same exact lab work was done for $165.00… Really! I went to the Dr. for my check-up and she sent some samples to the lab, knowing I had no health insurance there was no option for discounted lab work and no mention of an alternative lab… so now I am stuck with a big bill that I cannot afford to pay, am in collections and all my years of good standing credit is suffering. Avoid Quest Diagnostics … they are a rip-off !

Quest Diagnostics refund not received for a year now

Hi

I have called in multiple times and it has been over a year this issue has been going on.

I have conferenced my insurance and provided EOB, got confirmation from Quest taht i would be getting $200 back, the payment was made double both from me and my insurance.

every time i call i get a response it is being processed. Does it a year to process a payment of $200? Is quest helping patients in this way? would i be given interest on my payment?
if we dont pay a bill you move it to a collection agency and affect my credit history? where should i move this case too ? does it not affect your credibility ?

I would ensure to post this in all sites so that everyone knows the way you deal with customers with false claims.
Also i am reporting this to my company HR and insurance company. I personally would not use Quest services hereafter.

I have had the same problem with Quest. Our refund request has been going on for over a year and half; and has not yet been resolved. I am beginning to think this is an indirect way that Quest uses to borrow without interest. Double bill patient and take forever issueing a refund.
I was billed for Lab Tests that my doctor did not order and quest did not perform. When I realized their mistake, we have been trying to get the refund. It is a painful and arduous process.
You can sue them or report them to the better business bureau. I am contemplating sueing them at the small claims court here in Texas.

Quest Diagnostics long wait, painful blood draw for child

Took my 12 year old son in today who is diabetic. He needed his annual blood work done and it requires fasting. We made a 9:30 am appointment and didn't go back for tests until almost an hour later. A young man walked in and was done 15 minutes sooner than us even though her arrived after us and had no appointment. No apologies from the staff. The woman that took my son's blood had trouble locating his vein and instead of looking to the other arm, proceeded to pull the needle in and out and move it around in his vein trying to get blood. This poor kid, who deals very well with pain, was in tears and visibly shaking due to the excessive pain caused by this woman! He said he felt like he was going to vomit and pass out. My son is 12! No apologies from this woman! Maybe Quest diagnostics should hire, competent people! I will NEVER take my son there again! I am SO upset!

Quest Diagnostics negligent practices

My doctor requested sensitivities be done on a specimen. He wrote it right across the top of the lab request slip. He never got any results. Sensitivities can be done for the specific specimen submitted. They take time but they can be done. Getting these results allows a physician to order the appropriate antibiotics. I phoned Quest Diagnostics--Baltimore location-- to ask if they had entered this specific request into the computer etc. for the lab techs to perform the tests. I was told that Quest Diagnostics does not do sensitivities for this specimen. I asked why my doctor had not been told that they were not done. (I had verified that the office had never received any sensitivities.) The result was that my doctor did not have the information needed to prescribe the correct antibiotic therapy. I find that Quest Diagnostics is negligent in not telling the doctor that they do not do sensitivities on that specimen. They should have phoned his office or, better still, written on the results slip which they faxed to the doctor's office that they did not do the sensitivities. Very easy to do. Very necessary. Very accountable. Very responsible. Beware that Quest Diagnostics may not preform the tests requested by your provider.

Quest Diagnostics customer service

Quest Diagnostics located next to AMH in Arlington has the rudest office employees I've ever encountered. There was no greeting, The Man who took my blood said "there is a $65.00 estimated charge. Do you have a credit or debt card"?. I said "what" and then he rolled his eyes and repeated the question. He then said nothing except "hold this" referring to the cotton he placed on my arm after drawing blood. When he finished he raised the arm up, and said nothing. I stood there for a moment and realized he was finished. What the heck happened to common courtesy? Perhaps he may have just had a bad morning, but customer service is important. I'll never go there again, and will tell my friends and family not to patronize that place either. There are other labs nearby. I would not want my family to be treated so rudely. What happened to treat others the way you would like to be treated? The other office ladies never smiled or greeted the others that were in there as far as I could tell. Must have had a meeting that morning and got chewed out or something. What a rude group.

Quest Diagnostics over billing

I am no longer covered by health insurance. I went to Quest for Dr ordered Blood work. When I received the bill it was 4 or 5 times what they had charged the insurance companies for the same work in the past! There was no notification for Quest that this would be the case, pricing was not posted in there office. Had I been informed I would have passed on the tests.
It is ABSOLUTLY outrageous that Quest engages in this sort of price gouging. Quest is using the uninsured to subsidize lower rates to the insurers as a form of kickback / rebate. It is illegal!

It is not just their billing, but they lose the lab results-the doctor doesn't receive the lab reports, in one case they told me to re-take the test-when I said I didn't have the order anymore-they said they would fax it to their lab. Wrong- the lab never received the fax and when I tried to call back to the number and extension they provided the extension was no longer valid. When I tried to contact Quest Labs again I was hung up on by two different employees when I was trying to explain the problem.

I was wondering what Quest charges the patient with no insurance because they charged BC/BS $600 for my lab work and BC/BS only approved $60.00. I thought it would be bad enough for them to charge the patient with no insurance $600...but 4 times that would be $2, 400...more than outrageous...highway robbery!

Quest Diagnostics possible balance billing

On Septemeber 1, 2011, I went to Quest Diagnostics as my physician wanted some laboratroy test done. I went in handed her the physician order. An order I could not understand of what test were going to be done. The technician hardly said a work to me. We did not speak about what was being done as I was so ill that I just wanted to get the labs done and go home. She drew the labs and send me on my way. Weeks later I received a report from Medicare of what was paid. Quest Diagnostics accepted my insurance payment. Although my insurance would not pay for two of the tests ordered by my physician. Their reason being that they said the 2 labs were unecessary labs. I am hoping that someone can please help me with this matter. Even though Quest accepted my insurance and Quest is now hauting me for more money isn't this balance billing? They want to charge me $500.00 for these 2 labs. I thought once they accepted a person's insurance they cannot bill me for more money. Also, I was never informed my Quest when I went for the labs that there were going to be additional charges. Can someone please help me. I have a debt collector on my back. I have excellent credit and I am low-income. Quest is now trying to ruin my credit rating by sending this bill to a debt collector. I keep thinking should I just pay the bill and then some say that I shouldn't as I was not informed and Quest accepted my insurance in this case. Hope someone can help me, please.

Sorry, but my attorney said they are balance billing me. Also, do you know what my insurance companies entail. I have been balance billed before and know all to well what it is. I just needed my attorney to veirify it. I paid my deductible's and co-pays so they have no reason to further bill me.

Quest Diagnostics billing abuse

My doctor order a blood test as part of the annual check up. However Quest Diagnostic made an error in the billing code that resulted in charging me instead of my insurance. After numerous phone calls and with the intervention of my doctor's office, Quest Diagnostic admitted that they made an error and would correct it. However after six months, I still get the bill for the charge that should have been taken cared of by my insurance. Quest Diagnostic has impressed me as one of those companies that get in the health care business to exploit money from the patients and doesn't care about professional integrity. Their words have been so inconsistent and the quality of customer care, particularly, the billing department, has been so poor and disgusting that I would never use Quest Diagnostic again.

Quest Diagnostic has sent me a final notice payment when I havent even received the first payment so I called to see what was going on. So the guy starts searching and the he noticed that they actually owe me money. He said that he was gonna send out 7 check of different amounts. Okay so I never received the checks but they said that they were mailed out. Months has passed and still no checks. So I called to ask about the checks that I was waiting for. The man was very rude! Telling me that they sent them out and mentioning that this is an old problem. I told him to check to see because I know that I didnt receive, let alone cash the checks. And also that it doesnt matter how long its been. I also said that if I owed Quest money yall would be tracking me down. They were tracking me down and I didnt owe them a cent. Just be careful when dealing with them. Even though the amounts were small, those small amount add up!

Their billing system is the worse system I ever seen. I had two blood test in one of the Quest lab and my insurrance paid their fees but they keep sending me the bills.
Their customer service is so stupid they can even fix their systems. so they keep sending the claim to different collection agency. Then when I provide the EOB and the copy of the payment to collection agency, they close the case.
few month later, same story again as their billing system keeps generating these bills!
this story is repeated 3 times so far! it is just so annoying! at least the collection agency apologized all three times and say it was Quest issue.

Never ever go to the Quest Diagnostic lap or let any of my friends go there!

I take my meds everyday as prescribed. never skip or forget to take them, I go for a urine test to check for my meds and it shows up negative for my percoset, now my doctor is researching this, however I do not need this on my lifetime record. There was some sort of error on their test. I do take my meds, I actually took them that morning. So I am going to take this as far as needed to get this off my record.

Quest Diagnostic. They hire people promising them full time permanent positions then inform them the job is done. Vacations are over.

Quest Diagnostics overbilling

I went in for a stomach bacteria test. I was pleased when the doctor explained that just one blood test could sense if their was a problem and there-fore I could save money by just taking one test. The price for this test was on one of their charts and was for "138.00". When I received the bill they had billed me three times for the same test. When I call the lab they say the doctor ordered "3 test" and they don't care to hear or even acknowledge that fact that in my hand I'm holding the lab work papers which state only "1 test" authorized. Currently fighting it with their billing department. If it becomes a greater problem I will report them to the BBB and FEDS for false advertisement and over billing.

I just received an automated voicemail from Quest's "billing department." First of all, if this was a legitimate invoice that I owed a payment on, I would think that a real live person would call me. Second of all, I never had any services provided to me by Quest Diagnostics or at any of their local facilities. Thirdly, I never received a paper invoice in...

Quest Diagnostics Unwarranted letter from collection agency

I received two bills from Quest, dated 2/15/10, for lab services. I was unable to pay the total bill in full, I sent a pymetn of $57.40, with a note to pay the smaller statement and apply the balance of the check to the larger bill, and a note I would pay off the balance due, on Mar 9, 2010. That check cleared my bank on 3/15/10. I received the next invoice dated Arp. 1, 2010 and sent a payment on Apr. 19th, for $50. which cleared my bank on Apr. 22. I received a precollection letter from them dated Apr. 19th, stating I owed them $150., which I answered with a letter dated May 8 and another payment of $50., which cleared my bank on May 13th. Not five days after mailing this payment I received a call from a customer service representative. I explained that I have been making payments and that I tried to call but the number supplied had to be called between 8:30-5pm and I was unable to make calls during that time since I am in transit and at work during those hours and days, and didn't have the option to make calls on my bosses time since I am a tailor, and do fittings and sit at a sewing machine all day. She said she would mark the records accordingly. I recieved a fourth notice, undated from them, I recieved about June 12th, threatening to turn me over for collections. On June 18th, I had a message on my cell phone regarding the bill. I returned the message stating the payment would be mailed that weekend, since I needed that paycheck to make the payment, which I mailed, that check cleared my bank on June 22-the final payment. On Tuesday, June 22 I received a call from the collection agency with regard to the bill and informed the agent, that I had mailed the final check on June 19th. I also received calls on June 24, 25 & 29 and then a letter dated June 23. Since I have been sending monthly payments to Quest all along, I feel their collectionletters and calls are not only unwarranted, but constitute harrassment, going well beyond my final payment being accepted and depostied by Quest.
