Scotts.com poor company

As a former employee of Scotts Lawn Service.I will tell you they lie about the products they promote they will use and will use lesco products and such like in place. After the recall they had for not registering products with E.P.A. and agreeing to sending letters to customers to land in the mail on a Friday they did a nation wide of turning of their phone systems so not to answer customers concerns. They consistently violate laws in making applications in the pouring rain because if the employees don't they will be terminated. All of this probally has to be due to the fact all the upper management at Scotts Lawn Service are 85 % True Green Chem Lawn employees if that doesn't explain it.

I am a current Scotts employee, and have been for several years, as a tsr. Bottom line is if you don't want to work, then file for unemployment... The lawn care industry is hard, and it is called WORK, not fun. I have never seen any Scotts employee even suggest that a non-Scotts fertilizer be applied to any lawn, and the meer thought of it is not only morally wrong, but just plain stupid. As far as the rain goes...do we not tell every single customer to water in our applications?! It is only water, and I am plretty sure that none of us has melted yet, and I am not going to hold my breath.

The routes are based on the amount of customers versus the amount of tsr's. We have no problem meeting goals and being efficient at our branch, maybe you could have your gm send your guys here for a week to see how we do things.

I am just defending a great company, it seems that you may have some mgt issues.

Amen to what was said above. I am a lawn tech also and this has to be the worse company to work for, far worse than any Walmart or retail place in America. Not only are they making you do applications in the rain (without giving techs rain gear) they force to work 60-70 hours a week at 1/2 rate pay over 40 hours.

I would never hire us to do a lawn, 90% of the techs are overworked with routes they just open up spreaders or ghost properties saying they did it.

Scotts.com scotts lawn service is crooked

I actually worked for Scotts Lawn Service, located in Runnemede, NJ. Scotts has been around for years and have built their brand name. However, having worked for the company, I've seen the inside scams that Scotts Lawn Service operates on. Scotts Lawn Service is run by individuals empowered by greed, authority and manipulation. I've witnessed how Scotts Lawn Service hired many individuals off of the street, with no certifications or professional backgrounds, to provide lawn care for hundreds of paying and loyal customers. I also witnessed how some of the technicians would "ghost" a customers lawn. When I use the term "ghost, " I am referring to when a technician pretends to provide service on a customers lawn (whether the customer was at home or not) and deceptively leaves them a bill! I found this outrageous, as there were tons of calls from customers wondering why weeds were still growing on their lawns, their lawns were dying and turning brown, or even new problems would surface on their lawns. Scotts Lawn Service denied many refunds, credits, corrective services, etc, to deserving customers who DID NOT get what they were paying for.

The management staff running Scotts Lawn Service knew what was taking place, yet they sat by idlely and watched as customer service battled with upset customers, while throwing the "Service Agreement" in the customers' faces and quoting things that the customer did not really understand to begin with. All every customer wanted, was a good-looking, green lawn, like Scotts Lawn Service promised in the beginning through deceptive advertising.

Overall, many customers who trusted Scotts Lawn Service, where cheated out of their money. And, in this rough economical time, the last thing anyone needs is "lawn care." I witnessed, first-hand, how greedy and "shady" of a company Scotts Lawn Service has become. I sincerely hope that they are put out of business for their lawn care scams.

There was even a case that was conducted by the EPA, which identified Scotts Lawn Service as not properly registering some of their lawn care products. The staff at the Scotts Lawn Service branch in Runnemede, NJ, were told to follow a script to persuade customers that there was no real concern. Consequently, working for the company, I knew that there was something wrong.

The actuality of the EPA situation, was that Scotts Lawn Service formulated a harsher chemical to try to deal with some lawn issues, as a result of some ineffective products. Scotts intentionally did not register the product(s) in an attempt to "test" their effectiveness on lawns. Scotts was hoping that they would not get caught... but they did. However, they found a legal way to elude the accusation against them.

For all those who use Scotts Lawn Service, I suggest you leave them now because they are simply stealing your money. They do not care for lawns the way they used to years ago and they have a staff of people who do not care. All they seem to care about is money, and the staff of Scotts Lawn Service are trained to get you to believe whatever they want. I no longer work for Scotts Lawn Service and I am grateful. To this day, I believe that the Scotts Lawn Service branch in Runnemede, NJ continues to operate this way.

Consequences:

After the EPA issue was discovered, all of a sudden many customers were calling the Scotts Lawn Service office where I worked, to complain about their lawns being "burnt-looking." Lawns were said to be completely dead, after they were better off before they were treated by Scotts Lawn Service.

The unregistered Scotts Lawn Care products seems to have destroyed many lawns throughout the Delaware Valley. The Scotts Lawn Service branch located in Runnemede, NJ was even receiving calls from customers of the Scotts Lawn Service branch in Delaware.

The customers calling from Delaware, were complaining about the same things and the staff of the Delaware branch were evading calls and sending them to Runnemede, NJ, where the scam was to be addressed. The management staff knew exactly what was going on and were only focused on protecting the company's assets, rather than doing the right thing for it's loyal and dedicated customers.

For customers of the Scotts Lawn Service branch, located in Runnemede, NJ, here is a set of individuals to contact to cancel your service or address your concerns:

Serina Miller - Customer Service Supervisor

Josh Willey - Branch Manager

James Boughton - Field Supervisor

I sincerely hope that the information that I've provided helps stop the consumer scamming from Scotts Lawn Service.

I had given instruction to Scotts that I needed advance notice of when they planned to perform service as I need to put my dog up so they can gain access to the back yard. The back yard is the majority of my property. Needless to say they came without notice serviced the front yard and never serviced the backyard. I contacting them immediately that I was not going to pay until they performed the whole service and I needed notice of when they would be there. After many phone calls, the best they could do was give me prior day notice but could not committ to a window of time, hence my dog would be locked in the house all day. Terminex and TrueGreen have no problem handling my request for notice. They kept wanting me to pay for the service and some time in the future they would actually do the service. I finally reached the point of cancelling, told them I would not pay the full price they came back with a 25% credit of the invoice. 75% of my yard was not treated, why should I pay 75% of the invoice.

I worked for scotts lawn service in rochester ny and saw many of the same things mention by the writer here. The management does not care about the employees or their families at all they will say and do whatever it takes to make everybody believe otherwise. I was fired due to a week long battle with bronchitus and a doctors note 2 weeks after I came back due to supposed job abandonment. The sales people on the phone will tell and promise you many things over the phone to get a sale and hit their weekly quota. The goals at scotts are all money based and based off of a 10 hour day so they could pay you chinese overtime and scam you while they still collected fat paychecks, bonuses and company vehicles which are also used for personal use. Having been in the industry for almost 10 years now I know they are the highest priced company there is easily for any kind of service. Many times I was told to do applications of weed control in the rain and was told to tell customers it would work which is one of the many things I feel awful for. Also if you do call scotts most of the time it is redirected to the call center where somebody from out of state tries to handle your problem which most of the time they are uncapable of. I am now working for a highly respectable well managed and ran company that is locally owned but the biggest in the area due to the outstanding service we are allowed and able to provide for customers. To wrap this up anybody that says they work at scotts on this board dont take very seriously cause they have to protect their reputation and do yourself a favor dont call trugreen either theyre even worse call a big local company that usually knows the area egronomically much better which will allow them to provide you with a better program and service. Scotts has a filter in their IS system that enables them to filter out undesirable "blacklisted" employees from potentially being hired. In these cases, a person's established user name will work, but their password mysteriously will not work. When that person attempts to re-set their password, they'll receive the following security question..."WHAT IS THE NAME FOR THE 2ND FULL MOON IN THE SAME CALENDAR MONTH?"...The answer to this question of course is "blue", or "blue moon". Those who have usernames on Scott's I.S. blacklist will never be able to answer this because neither answer works. And if they call the 888 Scotts helpline number to find help with that security question, the very nice customer service people will steer them toward a myriad of VM's, all of which never return phone calls. At the minimum, Scott's is guilty of gawd awful customer service. At the most, Scotts could be guilty of discrimatory hiring procedures. In business, communication is everything. Now the ball's in your court, Scotts.

I just got hired from scotts in 2013 in conneticut, I have a landscape background. while working for them I learn so much from scotts lawn care it is a great job and you get 2 weeks training before you go on a customers property, also you have to be certified before using any chemicals. The technicians are very experienced, I am glad I work for them. Every time I go to customers house I always think like it was my own lawn and do all my best to take care of it. If you don't the have your clients you don't have a job. Salary is good and I just think if you can't keep up with the paste of work you just lazy a complaining like the guy who wrote the complaint about scotts.

I could not agree with this complaint more! My husband took the job at Scott's just to get by until the job position he's been waiting for started in a highly reputable union which is hard to get into. With that being said, within 2 weeks of working for Scott's, he had chemical burns all over his feet and ankles because they didn't give him the proper footwear. He also worked from 6-3/4 M-F and most Saturdays. They didn't pay overtime and when you look at the numbers, it was barely $7/hour. There was a lawsuit filed against them because of the no overtime pay. It's illegal! They are labor workers! Not agricultural! These men are worn out and never get to spend time with their families because of the head honcho who is money hungry. My husband worked his tail off every day. When he was out sick or with me and our son at the hospital when our 2 year old spiked a very high fever, they gave him grief. He went to work with the flu and made up for any time he needed off. He always met his goal. Even when it was pouring outside! (Yes, they worked in the pouring rain as long as there was no lightning. Newsflash: When it rains, it washes away all of the work! Even I know that!) This job was nothing but a nightmare! They also let my husband go without any inclination or reasoning. When asked why, the response was "the boss doesn't want him here anymore." Real professional, right? This company is the worst I've ever seen. Overworked and underpaid. I've never been so disgusted in my life.

I to worked at Scott's as a salesman. I also worked for Trugreen as a sales rep. And I know what really goes on in the upper ranks of management. Those folks are dirty, devious and just outright bad. If you only knew how unethical management is, you would vomit. And I have documented facts to back me up. However I have no need for revenge or payback, because I am secure in my salvation. I do not wish hell on anyone but no one can escape their own inevitable judgement day.

This original post is a total fabrication from a person who was let go for good reason. I have worked in the Runnemede ScottsLawn service branch for 6 years and was trained well and always treated with respect. Lawn care is tough and we don't always get it 100% right but we really try. It is hard to read that when I know what a great place this is to work and how hard we try to do what is right at all times.

Scotts.com destroyed my lawn

Just used Scotts Turfbuilder with *** control last week on our lawn - which at the time was already pretty nice and green. We followed the instructions on the bag EXACTLY. Our lawn is now completely brown and burnt! Really really mad. Wish we'd known about/read all the negative comments about this product on Scott's website before I had bought and tried it. Don't know if, or how I can fix my lawn now it is completely burnt :( Terrible product. Buyers beware and read all the negative reviews on their website and the internet before trying it - better yet just don't risk it!

We used the Scotts Southern Bonus S Weed and Feed in the Spring and Fall of 2014 - the only things green in my lawn now are the weeds the rest is dead. I contacted Scotts and they sent an adjustor out who verified the damage and we were sent a release form along with an estimate for us to replace the lawn. Two days later we got a call saying that they thought it was the recalled weed and feed of 2015 and took back the offer. They said they didn't have problems with this product before 2015...however, this page proves that statement wrong. The adjustor questioned us for 1/2 hour and determined that everything was done right. We sent the receipt clearly dated 2014. They did not offer any help whatsoever even though their own adjustor agreed that the damage to my lawn was consistent with what they were seeing from the 2015 product. Therefore we went from having our lawn replaced to "go scratch". This product destroyed my lawn. I have to say that the adjustor tried to do what she could for us. All I want is for my lawn to look the way it did before I used Scotts Southern Bonus S Weed and Feed.

I applied Scott's Turf Builder two years ago, and the lawn has been dead ever since. The grass has not come back. Now I am concerned that the soil is so poisoned that just adding soil and grass seed will be a waste of time. Any experience with reseeding or resodding, after the damage from Scott's?

I have had the best looking lawns of course in my opinion over 20 years, however, this year I used Scotts turfbuilder, halts crabgrass for the first time and I was successful in destroying both my and my neighbors lawn. I also did this in May 2013, temperatures were normal and it happened within a couple of weeks. I am still watering 20 minutes daily. I am very frustrated, my and my neighbors lawn are destroyed, on top of it, I used Scotts Blue Fescue and it wont grow 3 weeks now. I do believe, in my opinion, I have a problem now of my soil being poison to grow anything due to this Turf Builder from Scotts. Side Note: I purchased from Sams Club and I usually purchase from Costco out of my stupidity I decided to change out of convenience. Any assistance would be appreciated, my thumb has been brown for the first time ever this year.

I purchased three bags of scotts weed and feed fertilizer for my lawn. I opened all the bags it was so lumpy i tried to bust it up in another bag before putting it in my spreader. Well it broke my spreader and what i did get on my yard it killed all the grass. On the bottume of the bag it says. If you are not completly satisfied call this number and we will refund your money. ha..ha..ha..how misleading. I've been on the phone a dozen times. They told me to send my receipt, which i did. A month ago they told me i would get my refund in 7 to 10 days. Well that hasn't happened and i have got the biggest run around and nobody seams to know anything, don't buy anything with the scotts name on it. What a worthless company that won't stand up for it' products. Ralph Franklin Tuscola, Tx.

I contacted Scotts today after using Turfbuilder plus Weed Control on my front lawn. 4 days after application, my front lawn grass is DEAD, while the weeds thrive on.

After being nice and explaining my situation, I was told I needed to start a watering program, and my lawn would recover. I explained to the rep this was unacceptable advice, as my lawn was so dead that I could grab the brown grass, pull gently, and the roots would come up (yes, it's that bad).

I was offered a refund for the 45-ish pound bag of Turf Builder, and a rebate toward a free 3lbs bag of grass seed and free 5lbs bag of starter-fertilizer.

The seed will be the last thing of Scotts that I will ever use.

Scotts.com don't sign up for these crooks

Scott's products for sale at places like Home Depot are fine, but avoid the fertilizing lawn service unless you want to get trapped into it like a bad cell phone company! We signed up for the service for the summer, and I was very clear with the sales person that I only wanted to try it for the summer. I was told it was X number of fertilizations, and that it would cost me X dollars over the summer.

I was very optimistic about the whole service.

My lawn was actually worse than when I used to apply the fertilizer myself. More weeds, yellow grass, voles, and I'm pretty sure they missed some large areas of my lawn that I was very clear to point out to the sales rep when quoting my yard. Regardless, I learned my lesson so I had my wife contact the company and cancel the service in the fall.

In the spring of this year they came out and fertilized our lawn, even though we didn't ask them to. We called them back and told them that we only signed up for service for last year. They refused to take the charges off the bill, and claimed that they never received a cancellation. When my wife called to complain they badgered her to the point of tears. When I called they again said they had no record of the cancellation, and claimed that it was "clearly" explained that the service would continue. Nothing was even remotely clearly explained about that. They never called and confirmed that we wanted service to continue!

I had called twice to ask to speak to a manager, and got a call from her (Kim) a MONTH later! She made the same claims, we never cancelled, it was clearly explained, etc.

IT'S A SCAM!

Don't sign up for these crooks, go with TrueGreen or something or even better just buy a spreader and do it yourself.

My lawn is full of dandelions and voles.

Thanks Scott's!

Scotts Lawn Service is the worst lawn company that I'eve ever had. They seeded, fertilized, and aerated my lawn and none of the grass came up. My lawn is full of weeds. They promised to come back and seed again and have not come back months later., They did however send someone to fertilize the other day. I told the guy to leave my property until they completed the work as promised. Thinking about using small claims. I wish I'd seen these posts when I hired them instead of the false advertising that they spew.

I will not be using SCOTTS for anything again. I cancelled my service for two reasons.

1. Crabgrass is taking over my backyard. My lawn looks NO BETTER than my neighbor who just waters and mows.

2. I was getting dogs that were very sensitive to chemicals and fertilizers.

They came again after I told them to cancel, which I refuse to pay. I called them once and was promised it was taken care of, and the bill was canceled. I got another past due bill

I called again and got someone named PAT who was rude, belligerent and condescending.

I called the corporate and they tried to refer me BACK to PAT who I was complaining about. They then promised to have the district manager call me. NO PHONE CALL!

DO NOT USE SCOTTS, i NOW WON[T EVEN BUY THEIR PRODUCTS FOR MY USE.

When I singed up I told them specifically that I do not want to get any repeated services unless I call them and they assured me that this would be the case. we had crabgrass and they told us that their weed control program will take care of it and in addition will fertilize too, we did not wanted to do the fertilizing at first as it was easy to do by our-self and our concern was the crabgrass. after the service the crabgrass was as healthy as they were before, when we complained they said the main thing was that we did the fertilizing and the crabgrass will die when it gets cold. really? they did the seeding on a rainy day with big machine that smooshed our good grass and we still can see the tire prints. in addition the new seeds are very far apart and look so weak, there are a lot of spots with no grass. as this was not bad enough new weeds that we never had before started to come out instead of the grass.I have called several times for complaint. the first call I made they sent someone and I was able to show the damages, they agreed with what I was saying and they said they will come back and fix the problem. I waited and never heard anything back, I called again several times and asked to at least give the money that I payed for weed control back to me. every time they have told me that they will have their manger to call me back. while I am waiting for the phone call they have fertilized my lawn again, leaving me a note that we never told you that the seeding would be perfect and if 15% of the lawn is not cover that is normal. first of all I had problem with 15% of my lawn to begin with. 2ndly now is cover with weeds. I still thought at least they made the effort and did another fertilizing even though I never cared for that, that was until I received the additional charge for it in my new bill. I called them today and they told me that they did it because I never cancel my service. I specifically requested one time service and why would you come and do another service when I have been calling you and wanted my money back. by the way I have been waiting for their manager to call me back for 2 months and today they told me again that I have to wait for that call.

Scotts.com no results!

I hired scotts in the spring of 2006 to get rid of the weeds in my lawn and help to establish a new bahia grass lawn. The sales rep left me a form indicating which weeds I had and what would be done to fix it. The brochure said "If you're not satisfied, we'll make it right!". The treatments were to be done six times at a cost of $175 each. The first couple of times they treated for weeds and said (in writing) that weeds should turn yellow and die in a few days. That never happened, plus i now had a new, different type of growth (a clumpy, large-bladed thing) I had never seen before.

I called and asked them to meet me on site to explain what was going on. Three times they came out without calling me and left notes saying they would get it resolved with more treatments. Thia continued until November, when the treatments were finished and my lawn looked like hell...Worse than before I started with them!

I demanded a visit. The first guy who met me was just an applicator. He told me my problem was my whole lawn was infested with crabgrass and they had nothing to kill crabgrass. Scotts sells a crabgrass preventer over the counter, Roundup would certainly do it, as well as many other products .( The University of Florida Agriculture Dept. sent me a list of over 30 chemicals that would do it.)

Their 'expert' then came out and said the same thing, plus he said I should not be watering the lawn because water rots Bahia and crabgrass thrives on it. After each application, they had left instructions to water thoroughly for several days!
I asked them all if they could not kill crabgrass, why did they not tell me that before taking my money. Long story short, I hired a local expert, Mr.Stan DeFreitas, also known as Mr. Green Thumb, who has been on TV, radio and published a book on Florida gardening. He discovered many different varieties of weeds in my lawn and only two very small patches a couple inches square, near the driveway, of crabgrass.

I sued and and won all my money back plus court costs and the expense of stan's report. Last year I did weed and feed, planted winter rye and the lawn looked great. I am now seeing the bahia sprouts coming up. Finally, last year Scotts changed their warranty policy. If you're not satisfied, their liability is limited to refunding the cost of one treatment!
What does that tell you?

Please, please, stay away from scotts lawn service and do it yourself.

Good Morning,

I recently purchased a bag of Triple Action from Home Depot 1881 Ridge Road West Seneca New York 14224. Phone Number [protected]. The bag was full of large rock size clumps that I needed to crush with a hammer. Not very impressed. See photo below.

I purchased two of the 32 oz bottles of Scott's Turfbuilder Liquid Weed and Feed to attach to my garden hose, and neither of them will dispense from the bottle. I get only water coming from my hose. The price I paid was $17.97 per bottle. Please let me know how I can be reimbursed for this product. Thank you.

Also, stay away from Scotts Patch repair...the mulch is shreaded magazine paper...after you water it the paper/mulch dries hard . The new grass can't breath resulting in a waste of time and money. I also complained about the delayed refund which was 4-6 wks. I e-mailed them back saying that I would be blogging them of course.

two weeks ago, scotts lawn service(new castle delaware)came to aerate my lawn. They drove the machine over the entire lenght of my driveway, popping holes in the black top. I immediately called, and got no response.I called again and cancelled my service.I mailed them photos of the damage and a request for repair or reimbursement for the damages, again, no response! They showed up today and applied more fertilizer which I didnt authorize, as I had cancelled. The guy left my gate open and my dog got out and took 3 hours to find.
Bottom line is, these guys suck! Do not use SCOTTS! They do a shoddy job and my grass still looks like ###, but the aggravation they caused is more trouble than a ### looking lawn. I am very pissed off with them.If you'd like pictures of what they can do to your driveway, just email me.
