I purchased a 72 month extended car warranty from Signet Financial Group on 11/26/04. The warranty was refundable if there were no claims on the warranty. There were no claims so in July of 2009 I requested a warranty refund in writing via regular mail. I did not recieve any information, so in September of 2009 I sumbitted another request and sent via certified mail. I recieve a letter back saying I was not a customer.
After several phone calls, message left and no response I finally did get ahold of someone live. We found out they had my information incorrectly in their system. I was then told my request had to be sent 30 days from the end of my term and I did not do that.
The term on my contract clearly states 72 months purchased on 11/26/04. My notice in July and September are well within that 30 day notice. Apparently Signet claims my term actually started on 6/13/03, a year and a half prior to me even purchasing the vehicle. How is that possible? How can someone purchase a 72 month extended warranty on a vehicle a year and a half prior to them even owning the vehicle?
That said, my July notice would still be sufficiant notice. Signet asked for a copy of the letter which I sent. They then said it wasn't good enough and I would need to provide a copy of the postmarked envelope or a certified reciept. The letter was sent to them, they have the postmarked envelope, I can't provide that to them, it's already in their possesion. Secondly, the July request was sent via regular mail, there is no certified reciept. I is not required to send requests certified per their own contract but yet they ask for it as proof.
This company is intentially deceptive on their contracts to avoid refunding warranties. A live person never answers, you only get voice mail and they rarely, if ever, call you back.
Ty Tyson-
Yes you would think if I purchased a 72 month warranty on 11/26/04 that I would have until 11/26/10 to request a refund, however that isn't the case. Signet claims that the 72 month warranty actually started at the "inception date", the date the vehicle was first put into service, a year and a half before I even owned it. I appears that I never really did buy a 72 month warranty or I some how managed to buy the warranty a year and a half before I even owned the vehicle? However, I did send a request to Signet for a refund in July which they 'never recieved" now they claim they don't owe me a refund. Doc R. is 100% correct in saying that Signet gives you the runaround and drags things out for months, that is actually an understatement. Best I can tell, Signets entire business model is to use intentially deceptive contracts and make customer jump through several firey hoops to get the refund and if all else fails, delay, delay, delay. In addition, their customer service is terrible. It is almost impossible to get anyone in the organization to return a phone call. In fact, I finally was able to speak with the president of Signet to complain about the poor customer service I recieved as well as my warranty refund situation and he has yet to call me back after he said he would research the situaiton and call me back. This was a month ago and I have left him a message as well as sent an email.
I have been working with the president of SFG for the last several months now. It hasn't been any more successful that working with the staff members. Case in point, I sent him an email 3 weeks ago and have made three calls directly to him since then and I am still waiting for a response. This is not the first time I have had to send multiple emails and make several phone calls before I finally get a response from the SFG president. He has also inacurrately reviewed my case information by looking at documentation from my bank by the date they sent me the information rather than the date within the actual body of the letter from the bank. Basically, he didn't even bother to read the letter! He just looked at the date they sent it to me and didn't even read what they wrote. After dealing with SFG for almost a year, it seems pretty apparent that their business model is to delay payment or make the customer jump through so many firery hoops that they don't have to give the refund. They are hoping that most people will just give up and then they can keep your money. FYI, the presidents name is Gregg Lehman and the contact information is glehman@signet-financial.com, [protected] ext. 102. By the way, in my last message from him, he was upset that I reached out to warn other customers via sites like this one and "[redacted]". It seems as if he feels I should not have done this but this company is intentionaly deceptive to customers and everyone needs to know!
It took almost a year (short by about two weeks) but I finally received my refund. I had to really keep at it and call and send emails every week. I also submitted complaints to the BBB and the AG's office. If you are due a refund from SFG, do not give up. Keep after them to get your money.
It took me almost a year and I needed to call and email every week before I got my money back. Even when I did get my money back they tried to say they were doing me a favor by giving me my money back because, according to their records, I didn't meet the requirements for the refund. Keep fighting, keep calling.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
Ditto, ditto, and ditto. They're only a few weeks past their 60 days in my case, but based on everyone else's experiences, I'm starting with the AG's office in OR and CA, rather than wasting my time hoping the company will treat me better than everyone else.
Also, on a side note, I contacted Saturn of Beaverton, where I purchased the warranty, and was told they have stopped using Signet because of the number of complaints. Awesome.
Again like the rest of you. I was a sucker amd fell for this trap at my Beaverton Toyota dealer in Oregon. I "supposedly" was to have received my check on Jan 14, 2011. Called and delt with them about it not being recieved, and told i was to now deal with there accounting department. As usual no answers and nothing from Gregg Lehman. Been doing the run around with sky high blood pressure caused from this and just now have the time to really look into this "company" online, seeing all the bad news associated with them. Im looking forward to now contacting the dealer i purchased my vehicle from, the Or and Ca attorney generals, the BBB, and also my local media to hopefully get a story out there to reach people before they fall for this. Do not stop the fight! Once u have given up they have won.
Like so many others on here dealing with same run around. Started in July 2010 with phone call to ask for refund told to send request in writing. Sent the request on July 26, 2010. Received a letter back dated July 30, 2010 with the refund application and the list of documentation needed. Sent out documentation and application certified mail on August 12, 2010. Called Signet within the week to verify that they had the paperwork, told yes looked like everything was there. Asked how long refund would take, response was 6 to 8 weeks. Called Signet in mid October 2010, (8 to 9 weeks) told all documents were in order waiting for final review. Called Signet beginning of November 2010 asked about refund again, told still waiting for review. Asked how long the review would take, (beginning to get angry). Response was that review would take 60 days, from document approval. Called Signet again in December 2010, told review would be done near end of the month. Called Signet again beginning of January 2011, told was approved check would be sent out on January 21, 2011 (not happy). Called Signet 1st week of February 2011, asked about check that had not arrived. Response was should be there soon (? 2weeks already). Called Signet Again at end of 2nd week of February 2011, told them check still had not arrived. They told me would turn it over to accounting department and would take 5 to 7 days for new check to be sent. End of 4th week of February couldn't get a response from refund department or Greg Lehman (still waiting for return phone call). Called the dealership where I bought the policy, got them involved. The dealership had trouble getting a response from Signet. Got a call from the dealership on March 7, 2011. The dealership informed us they had to get their broker involved to find out the check (reissue) was to be sent out on March 10, 2011. Called Signet today March 21, 2011, asked them where is my check. Response that it was sent on March 10, 2011, should be here soon. I responded that it has already been 12 days it does not take that long to mail across country. They gave me a check number. I told them that a check number does me no good, I need my money. Transfered my call to Greg, who's voice mail tells me won't be in until March 23, 2011. Called back and was told no one else can help me. (Really Angry Now). 8 months and still no refund.
I'm writing on behalf of my mother who purchased the extended warranty on her Toyota through Signet and has been attempting to get her refund for the past 6 months. She submitted her paperwork in the 30 day time frame and after several months received verbal confirmation that it was approved. She's received the "check's in the mail" story but has yet to see the check. She's left several voice mails for a supervisor and has not received a call back. If anyone is starting a class action suit, she is interested in participating.
All the above statements are true. Sent my paperwork for a refund in Sept. 2010 and I am getting the same runaround. My dealership is Barber Brothers of Spanish Fork, and hasn't done diddlie for me. I have called them several times, and they say they will call back, but I never hear from them. I will never buy a car from them, and have put the word out. I will never get an extended warrenty with Signet, either. I would be interest in participating in a class action, but, how do we get together? This is the biggest runaround I ever have gone through. It feels like personal damage. I am so frustrated.
What is up with these people at Signet? One would think the employees themselves would realize what a thieving company they are working for. Instead they defend it! I have received my refund after months of frustration. So all of you out there don't give up before they go out of business. If anyone needs my testimony against them I am willing.
This company is a joke. Going through all the same crap as everyone else. Already posted with the bbb but beleive it or not the bbb with 139 complaints against them in the last 36 months still gives them an a + rating. Whats the world coming to? Can anyone do there jobs anymore? Oh, and by the way, who's earning all the interest on this money? Time to go to the Attorney Genereal. Do I use NY where I reside or CA? I would love to have a class action siut filed against this incompedent company.
@Berdy, I filed with Oregon (where I bought the vehicle) and California, where they reside. I've received responses from both. I also filed with the BBB in California. The standard response from Signet is that they have 60 days to send payment after all necessary "verification, " which is not a defined term. It also isn't written that way in my contract. In any case, they seem to believe they can take as long as they want for their insurer to "verify" that funds are owed, and once that is done, then the 60 day clock starts.
Sorry about that this website freaks out when you use apostrophes or quotes
Berdy, I'm in New York as well. When I spoke the the Regional AG's office in Rochester they said that numbers do count. So, we should make sure that our complaints are linked somehow. I spoke to Bob O'Connor from the Rochester office. They suggest on their website that you make a formal complaint so I sent a registered letter to Gregg Lehman who is the president of Signet. I also sent a copy of the letter to Holtz Honda where I purchased the car because I believe that they are a party to this as well. I'm giving them both a very brief period of time to respond before I file a complaint against both of them.
In the same boat as all of you. Check in the mail in February. 2nd check in the mail 3/18/11. Was told that they would call and provide tracking numbers for the check. I have been calling daily and leaving messages that are never returned. Had personal messages delivered directly to the Greg Lehman with no response. Called to day and the office is CLOSED was the message. Was told by the secretary to insist on holding to speak with a live person rather than going to voicemail. Trying to do that but can't get a live person... Wondering if they are shutting down as all of the web servers for the Signet site are down today? VERY UPSET!
For what it's worth, if you email their refund@ address off the Signet website, you'll get a pretty quick response from a real person. Might not be good news, but at least it's a direct contact with a direct phone extension. She told me to check in with her again on 4/15 to see when they might get around to deciding to decide to pay me.
I'm in the intial phase of trying to get my refund but what I'm seeing does not look very good. Hopefully, I'm wrong (and get my refund) but we shall see. I collected the required documents and overnighted them March 25, 2011. I checked the US Post office website today (March 29, 2011) to verify delivery and it said they left a notice and that no one had picked up my letter from their PO Box. So I gave them a call and low and behold no one answers and I get a message saying the administrative offices are close?!?! On a Tuesday? Maybe there is a California holiday I didn't know about? I doubt it but wanted to share my experiences with you and that them not getting their mail seems like an ominous sign. Oh, and I also tried to leave a message like the voicemail said but it just kept looping and not allowing a voicemail to be left.
The tinfoil,
Do you have that email address? I would like to get it but their servers are down still so no website for Signet. If you could send it to me, I would appreciate it.
Paul
The direct address I sent it to was refund@signet-financial.com. The response I received was from keri@signet-financial.com. Hope that helps!
If you can get Keri she was the one that finally pushed mine through. But it took a lot of sitting on the phone and pestering.
Has anyone tried the www.ftc.gov It's the Federal Trade Commission. Their phone number is [protected]
I just learned they also follow up on consumer fraud and complaints. The AG office referred them to me about a different issue.
AS OF 3/30/2011 SIGNET FINANCIAL HAS NOT BEEN OPEN ALL WEEK(MONDAY OR TUESDAY)LAST FRIDAY(3/25/11)THEY
WERE NOT ACCEPTING PHONE CALLS. SENT CERTIFIED LETTER, CONFIRMED DELIVERY ON 3/24/11 HAVE BEEN UNABLE
TO EVEN LEAVE A MESSAGE. HAVE TURNED THE STORY OVER TO 2 DIFFERENT NEWSPAPERS. THEY LOVE TO DO STORIES
ON UNFAIR BUSINESS PRACTICE. CALLED AND LEFT MESSAGE OVER A MONTH AGO, NO RETURN PHONE CALL.
FEELING USED IN MICHIGAN
My husband and I have also been taken. Our 6 year extended warranty expired and we filed all the proper documents in the time frame requirede to receive a full refund of the warranty never used. I keep reading our own story over and over. I too, got the message today that the company is closed until further notice. Are we all out our money? If there is future action we want to be part of it! Still steaming mad in Oregon.
Their website is down also. Says it's "under construction."
I am in Oregon, submitted all my paperwork in September 2010, approved for a refund in November, and the check was to be sent out on January 18, 2011. I did not receive it in, so two weeks after that date, I tried calling. I left a message and received a call back by a sorry sounding gentleman who promised he'd look into it and get me a tracking number on a new check, since I must have lost the first one (I did not receive it, I know because I was very watchful for it). Nothing. I've left weekly messages until no messages could be left. I also called everyone and left messages on everyones numbers that I could find on the website. Then, no messages could be left, then Signet isn't open and no website to visit. I have a very bad feeling about this and my $2500 promised me. What does one do in a situation like this?
Thank,
Leslie in Oregon
I still haven't been able to get in contact with anyone so I will now assume they have scammed me out of my $2000. I believe it is now time we act together, contact as many consumer agencies as possible and think about a class action suit. By the way, it looks like a news channel out of New York did a piece on this scam company in August of 2010. Maybe if we contact that news agency or (any others in our area) it will put more heat on these bums.

To Ty Tyson, Get out of it while you still can. My story is the same as everyone else, my contract ran out in November of 2010 and I have done all that Signet has asked, sent in my paperwork certified mail and they picked it up December 6th still no check and I was told we had been approved for the refund it is now April 2nd 2011 still no check and a recording on the phone for Signet says closed till further notice. What does this tell you? it is a bad deal you will get taken. I am out $1900.00, I do hope we will get this money, think my next option is to hire a lawyer and Signet will be paying for more than just my refund
Same issue... our paperwork had even been approved and they told us a check was sent. So we called back, and they told us they will put a stop payment on that check and issue another one via certified mail. However, we never received it either. Now, today, I am getting a message from their office phone that "they are closed until further notice".
What crap... neudesign@hotmail.com is my email should anyone find solutions. I will be filing with my attorney next.
EVERYONE
CALL THE FEDERAL TRADE COMMISSION

They need multiple people to call in and file a complaint, and then they will take action.
You will also need to call your state's Attorney General, which the FTC will give you their number
My case at the FTC is [protected] if that is helpful at all.
Thanks

I think they are closed for investigation. Their assects have been froze. If this is the case, it will be along time before we see are money. Thats what my dealership told me. So I might hold the dealership responsible for selling me a fraudulent contract. I don't care where the money comes from, just so I receice it!
I totally agree. Contact your AG and FTC. The whole process of those two agencies took me about 10 minutes. Not the hour upon hour spent with Signet. It's so worth an investigation.
I also bought my car from saturn of beaverton and my contract was up feb 1st. I called on the 3rd and was told to submit a letter to ask for a refund. I did and after 3 weeks I got nervous that I hadn't heard from them so I called them and they "never got it". I told them I would fed ex 2nd day them one to fit into the 30 days I had, which I did. Theycould not deny they got that one on the second day because I had proof they signed for it. When I got the app for my refund to send back with all my paperwork (which I already had in order because I had asked them what I would need) I put it in another fed ex 2nd day delivery because by now I had also figured out their tricks. When I checked to see if it was delivered (last friday) it was listed as refused! They are obviosly there if someone is there to refuse packages but are not answering the phone! During this whole process I also got the no call back routine and finally learned to sit on the phone for a live person, most times I was left on hold 45 minutes and sometimes longer! When I called the dealer today the lady I talked to, who was very nice and understanding, was quite familiar with the situation, said she had also tried their number and got the same looping messages. She told me to file with OR because that is the state I bought the car in. I will be doing that as well as as calling the ftc and california AG. I will also be calling a local paper that does watchdog stories here in MN where I now live. I agree we should class action sue them and anyone who has any info for this please contact me at goodymiller@yahoo.com I would be willing to devote real time and support for this because even though I will probably never see my$ 2317 these people pissed me off. Bad move.
I submitted my refund request a month ago and sent everything they requested via certified mail. They signed for it but now the office appears to be closed. I just filed complaints with the FTC, California Dept of Insurance, California Atty General, state where I purchased my vehicle's AG office and Dept of Insurance and recommend everyone else do the same if you are in the same situation. Gregg Lehman's personal info is out their on google and facebook - I wouldn't have my info out their if I ran a scam business. If he had paid more attention to his business than his cycling endeavors, maybe the company would still be around.
The BBB appears to be updating their rating of Signet Financial. The BBB is a joke. I have no faith in their reporting whatsoever and will not even consider looking at their ratings because it appears that most businesses buy their A rating like Signet seems to have done.
Everytime I hear of a service contract having problems and not performing as agreed, it is represented by the same old agents that have had same old problems with other companies and the same dealers that don't know enough to look into the company's back ground and insurance coverage. This is an age old problem. It is the dealer that is responsible for researching the agent's reputation and their responsibility to know if the company the agent represents is reputable. Any dealer that stays with any agent that brought him a bad product once, such as Signet, will do it again and shame on that dealer for not knowing the difference between a good agent and a bad one. As an agent of reputable companies, I have these suggestions for customers that are considering coverage. 1. Never, Never buy online. Purchase your coverage from the dealer you are buying the car from. That way if you have a problem you can at least hold the dealer partially responsible and if they care at all about their reputation, they'll step up and help you out. 2. Ask your dealer who is backing the coverage provided by an administrator such as Signet. If they can't tell you that in the event the dealer or the administrator go out of business you are covered for future repairs or cancelations by an "A rated" insurer, don't buy it... 3. Be sure to do your own research. Google and Yahoo are valuable tools when shopping for anything, but even more so when you're dealing with a company you've never heard of. There are hundreds of reputable service contract providers and only a few bad ones. The internet is a great place to determine the difference. 4. Lastly, do the same for the dealer you choose to buy your car from in the first place. Any car you're looking at could be bought at another dealership. Don't make your decisions impulsively and be sure you're dealing with reputable dealer. Reputable dealers generally don't sell uninsured, under insured or poorly funded service contracts. AND LASTLY...MY ADVISE FOR DEALERS... GET YOUR HEAD OUT OF YOU &$$ AND KNOW THAT ANY AGENT THAT WOULD SET YOU UP WITH THIS KIND OF CRAP DOESN'T GIVE A DAMN ABOUT YOUR REPUTATION! They know better and if they don't, do you really want them in your F&I department?
I am hoping they someone is starting class action lawsuit. I have been trying to get my money from them since November of 2010. I to have called FTC, California State Attorney General. and the BBB.

Purchased a 4 year warranty policy with this group signing a contract for full refund if warranty no used. Met criteria for refund after 4 years. Was very difficult to get info on procedure to receive refund. Was to have check sent out on April 1st. Office now closed until further notice. Further investigation finds company has conducted business in this manner for years. Had I know that, would have never done business with this group. In my opinion, seems to me city of Vacaville should be ashamed of this type of business practice. Better business bureua gives then a A+. Goverment is looking to cut cost, in my opinion, this is one group that has dropped the ball and maybe needs to be in the budget cuts. Why are companies using this group. Now I wonder about the business that sold me this coverage and what kind of practices are they doing. Is there no one out there that can fix or handle this group. Ponzie schemes, what kind is this?. Don't deal with this company!
It looks like I'm going to be running into the same problems. I initiated a refund by sending a certified letter to Signet. It has not been picked up at the PO Box so it will likely get returned to me. The phone number says that the offices are closed and their website is down. I will be filing a complaint with the AG's office in Utah. If anyone does start a class action, I'm interested. Leave a message on this post who to contact.
Update March 26, 2011 check finally arrives dated March 14, 2011 ( proof that Greg Lehman and his employees are liars). Deposit check into account on April 1, 2011. bank informs us on April 8, 2011 that Bank of America (the bank the check is from) will not cash it. Going to A Bank of America branch today April 12, 2011 to find out what is going on.
Now their doors are cloed until further notice!
Post your complaints, call your government agencies, talk about class actions. That may help you feel better, but all the money is gone. I've written my $1, 600 off to experience.
If you want to ask Gregg Lehman where your money is, you could try his home number in Winters, CA: [protected]
We too purchased the warranty with a full refund if never used. After calls to our dealer we found out that we were on our own. Because Signet is based in California we filed a complaint with the CA Attorny General's office and the CA Insurance Commissioner. You can do this online. From the CA Secretary of State website we have found out that Signet's business is still active and they are represented by the James C. Kuppenbender law firm in Sacramento, CA.
