My 18 year old daughter wanted to work at spirit Halloween because she loves Halloween. The first time inquiring we located the store manager and explained how we would like to apply for employment OR volunteer her time just to get experience in the workplace being she has a mild intellectual disability(which is more academic then anything else.) as her mom I stood right there and my daughter asked appropriate questions. The store manager( Sara) said she will take her number down and speak to her higher up and contact us back either way. After a week, no call! So my daughter wanted to try yet again. We went back and our timing was great because the higher up store manager was working that shift/day. We explained AGAIN how she would love to apply for employment OR again said she would even offer her time as a volunteer for experience. Jen(the manager at Hicksville location) said go online and fill out an application and she promised her that she will give her the opportunity for a interview because there were still 7 sales associate spots left. I took Jen off to the side and explained to her that the disability is more academic but definitely able to do in store tasks, and she goes don’t worry I will contact her. Needless to say the disappointment my daughter felt is massive. It’s one thing not to get the job, but it is entirely another not to even give her a fair shot at an interview, after stating that she would. I have seen on your website that your company doesn’t discriminate. Well I must say that is a very false statement! Very unprofessional managers you have employed. She would have been an excellent asset for your company. A very hard and driven individual. As well as my husband spends A LOT of money each year in your store, which at this point will be stopping. A word of advice, when hiring your managers, maybe work on the discrimination part a little longer, you can end up getting a lot of unwanted negative feedback for not giving EVERYONE a fair shot at least for a interview……very sad!
Desired outcome: At least recognition for this email from a supervisor……
