Splitwise Great for Groups with lots of divided expenses

I've heard a lot of people say it's great for group trips, but honestly I think the best use is for Group Homes.

I live in DC and I have three other roommates. The four of us each cover a utility and post it in there to keep track of total expenses. We also use it to cover household items and work that needs to be covered around the house (like an exterminator, appliance repair, etc.) We cover our own groceries, but this would even be great to include that. It keeps a running tally of who owes whom how much and even gives a net total of how much you borrowed and how much people borrowed from you. You can even post a bill/expense and divide it amongst an even smaller group of people inside that group and different denominations other than just equally. (Exp: percentage, discrete amounts, etc.)

Plus it syncs with paypal and venmo, so you can pay people back within the app.

Seriously surprised more people have not heard of this app. Its amazing.

Splitwise This is a fantastic app!

Definitely best app of its kind. Makes splitting costs for things like road trips very easy when multiple people have expenses. Good cross platform support ensures everyone in the group will be able to use it despite their platform of choice.

Would most like the ability to split one person's share among the rest of the group. E.g. Joe and Bob share a room, you want Joe to pay half but split Bob's share across Joe and everyone else at the party. Right now this has to be done manually with percentages and it's just a bit of a hassle.

Would also like the ability to add spot conversion factors so that expenses could be entered in any currency but settled up in the desired one. Bob might put a CAD charge on his credit card and get a different spot rate than my card -- so this would have to be at a transaction level (or allow multiple equivalent currencies to be specified and apply one ccy's split to the other) Doing subsequent adjustments for currencies is difficult and requires re-inputting the percentage splits.

Splitwise Love, love, love

I can’t say enough good things about this app. Three families just got back from vacation together and we used Splitwise for the trip expenses. I was able to split expenses per number of people in the family (to be fair to everyone there’s a family of 3, 4, and 5), manually enter amounts, or for some expenses we just split it 3 ways. In addition, I found out I can take a picture of the receipt to verify the expense f there’s ever any question. It’s awesome. Every family can enter expenses that they paid for and at the end of the trip we just “settle up” and it tells us how much each family owes. I’ve tried other apps for tracking expenses on a vacation and nothing comes close to using Splitwise.
The only issue we had was that one person has android phone and it didn’t seem to have all the same bells and whistles. They could enter the expense but we couldn’t find how to split it for the number in each family. With my iPhone I had to modify the expense to split it properly.
thank you to the developer of this application.

Splitwise Every Couple Needs This App!

Download IMMEDIATELY! This is a relationship/close friendship LIFESAVER! My partner and I struggled daily trying to keep up with "who paid for the concert tickets" and "dinner the other night" and the flights home in August etc. . We were always worrying if one of us were paying for more things, being that we were trying to paying for things evenly. It was so hard to try and even it out by saying "oh you got the concert tickets so I'll get this movie and dinner tonight". It was too much to keep track of. Then a friend shared this with me.
This app is INCREDIBLE! No ads! And it's FREE! We use it for everything. I tell everyone I know to use it. I can't say enough great things about it! There's even been times where my partner needed cash but was out, so I lent them a $20 and just added it to Splitwise as a cost she owed me! We settle up at the end of each month and whomever owns the difference it's added to our monthly rent! This app has taken out the need to constantly talk with my partner or remind the other about who owes whom what.

Splitwise Do Not Use Splitwise Pay

After misleading instruction my friends and I tried using Splitwise Pay instead of Venmo or PayPal as it made it seem like it would go from one checking account to the other. This was NOT the case. It took a full week to get payments into a “Splitwise Wallet” during which time it was listed as “pending” with no clarity on when it would be available. After that long wait I was informed that the money would actually just be sitting with Splitwise and not in my Checking account. Which is essentially like Venmo or PayPal only it took a full week to process and you can’t readily use Splitwise Pay with anything?!

Do not know why on Earth they would choose to create a product that is actually WORSE than the alternatives currently supported. AND WHATS EVEN MORE CRIMINAL… is they were very misleading about how this would function and that it could take essentially 10 days to get money in this way! as it takes 2 additional days to transfer from Wallet to your Bank Account!

So Frustrating and a shame they would release something and not be clear about it.

Splitwise It’s ok but has major problems

Here’s my use case: I live with my girlfriend and we split all our bills in our household

If you delete a bill that’s been already paid: now the person who paid the bill owes the other person an amount equivalent to their half. Changing a recurring charge date or amount is truly a nightmare and will always result in a 1-2 month confusion period.

I’ve had an error that has occurred after coming back from Venmo a number of times where it says the transaction has failed. It’s a trap! If you manually mark it paid, it will just say that the other person owes you money once it figures it out later. I don’t know if it’s their systems reconciling it or the app itself gets into a weird state that requires a restart.

I hope the people who work on this app dogfood it because it is so painful to use.

The moment that there’s an alternative to this app, I’m sold. To use Splitwise, you have to be a forensic accountant and the tools they provide don’t help because they lack any real granularity.

I have the pro version. It’s offers almost no additional help.

Splitwise Love it but

I love and use this app constantly, to the point that it would make sense for me to use the pro version. So I did the 1 month free trial (thank you) but it didn’t seem worth the money. Specifically because I still can’t itemize transactions on the phone app, only the desktop, and the charts aren’t really helpful. In regards to the charts, if I could tap on a section of the pie chart and have every transaction that’s in that category shown - that would be Very helpful. Also, it’s not very clear on the charts if the total amount shown is the total of what Both people spent (and then split) or if it’s what I specifically spent after splitting expenses (again, would be very helpful to know/have both options). Last feedback is that it would be great if when using the itemized feature, that items could be split by a custom % instead of only 50/50 or 100/0. Fingers crossed these updates are doable! I tell people about this app all the time and it makes my like So much easier by removing the stress of remembering debts, but the above would really help a lot.

Splitwise Fascinatingly awesome

This powerful app makes splitting costs in any group beautifully simple. It allows total transparency among group members, cost sharing within subgroups, and thorough, easy accounting. The most impressive part of the app is the "simply debts" feature. Where tracking debts by hand in group of, say, 10 people, would likely leave everyone making and receiving up to 9 payments, splitwise uses an algorithm that settles all debts through one or two transactions per person. For example if I owe person A $1 who owes person B $1 who owes person C $1, splitwise will have me pay $1 to person C as the only transaction. Last year I had a cabin trip with about 10 other people; some people stayed for only part of the trip contributing to only a few days of rent. Various people payed for groceries at different times and there were a few occasions when portions of the group split off for dinner, etc. A daunting process to tabulate by hand. Splitwise tracked everything and in the end everyone only had one payment to either make or receive to/from one other person. 10 stars.

Splitwise Great app idea!

Splitwise is a super cool idea and my friends and I used it for my bff’s bachelorette party. I have some feedback.

-I was able to pay through PayPal but half the girls didn’t have PayPal so now we’re trying to figure out how they get their money. Don’t offer a payment until someone puts in the email associated to the account that way if they don’t put in the email for PayPal, I can’t pay them through PayPal bc now we need to figure out how she gets the money and it’s literally been taken out of my PayPal already and she still can’t figure out how to receive it.

-I didn’t see anywhere that explained what to do so as soon as someone added a dollar amount and split it between us all, I paid it. Needs be more intuitive or have some kind of pop up like wait until all your friends add the amounts before you pay so you’re not having to pay people in multiple transactions. That just wasn’t clear to wait until all transactions were added until you “settle”. Make that more clear somehow. Hope that makes sense?

Thank you! Cool app idea, can’t wait to see it be more intuitive.

Splitwise Very helpful, a few improvements

Found splitwise very useful for settling a
group cost for a wedding trip among 17 people, with numerous couples.

It was ok adding costs using the "split by shares" feature for couples, however it would be better to be able to set the share amount on a per-person basis, as all couples were paying jointly. Without that feature it was annoying adding each cost, and when we had to add another party to the group I had to update all of the costs again.

Also, at the end two people were owed money (myself and one other), however it was easier for me to act as the "bank" so all owed money would be sent to me and I would pay back the one other person owed. Splitwise has the "simplify group debts" feature, but that still produces a more complicated array of who owes whom. It would be simpler to communicate the final tally if there was an option to set one person as the "bank", especially since most of the people are not signed up (nor want to) to splitwise, and I am communicating the costs to them.

Otherwise it was very useful and I'd use it again and recommend it to others!

Splitwise NOT ACCURATE NOT WORTH IT

If you’re looking to have an app that easily logs money between friends and tracks money owed, THIS IS NOT A GOOD APP FOR YOU !

This app seemed at first to be a great way to keep track of who owes what between friends. But after using it now for over 3 years there have been some changes and it seems to make calculations between different groups and friends waaaaay more complicated than it should be. It moves money around without explanation and to groups that money should not be a part of.

I emailed back and forth for a long time with their support which usually responded pretty fast which props to them thanks. However what they said was happening and what the app was doing were not the same and it seems like they can not explain nor control what it’s doing at all. There were many times when I knew for a fact that someone should owe me zero yet SW moved money to where it shouldn’t and all of a sudden they owed me $100s of dollars. WTH ?!?

I will be going back to pencil and paper for actual accuracy till I find an app that can do things right and in a less confusing way.

Splitwise 10 Stars!

Splitwise is exactly the app I was looking for, and it works perfectly! I split expenses with my partner. Settling up with each other every few months was an arduous process. Sometimes costs are split evenly, sometimes I pay the full amount, sometimes she pays the full amount, and sometimes costs are split unevenly. Splitwise easily handles all the possible iterations in an easy-to-use, easy-to-understand format. The interface is so intuitive that right after downloading the app, we entered two months of expenses in no time. This is one of those apps that makes your life easier! Syncing among two devices and the online account has been seamless.

The “Simplify Group Debts” option is brilliant! This function does the final calculation to determine who owes how much to whom. Instead of, say, repaying $10.00 to Sally, who also owes $10.00 to Tom, the app will tell you to just pay $10.00 directly to Tom, and will show that you settled up with Sally, and will show Sally that she settled up with Tom. I think it’s a wonderful function that causes some people confusion, but it’s one of the best features of the app.

Thank you, thank you, Splitwise, for creating this app!

Splitwise Great app!

I recently downloaded Splitwise to use for a long weekend trip and found it a great way to document our expenses and keep track of how much we each spent. Afterwards, I exported the spreadsheet and it was much easier that having to track everything later.

Love:
- Having different groups
- Syncing easily between friends
- Instant categories
- Easy input
- Ability to settle via Venmo

Some suggestions:
1. I know that I can change default currency and individual transaction currencies, but it would be great to set a default currency if someone were to select the "trip" category for a group

2. On the web, there is the option to see different categories of spending. I use my phone a lot more and would much rather have this on the phone (if not both places). I love the little icons that auto-populate for different categories.

3. Option to export notes in the spreadsheet would be fantastic

4. I wanted to mark an expense as shared with someone who doesn't have Splitwise for my own records without sending him a notification, this is currently not an option

5. I would love to use this for personal expenses (maybe under "me" tab). I have a group with just me in it, but it would be much easier if I could see how much I paid for each thing instead of "no balance"

Splitwise Awesome app!

I've used this for a cross-country road trip and I and my housemates currently use it for our house. I love the ability to cancel out mutual debts, as well as the ability to take a picture of a receipt and add it to an expense. The integration with Paypal also works smoothly and makes settling up easy!

I ran into some issues trying to add a friend who don't already have Splitwise to a group; it didn't send the invite properly, and then when it worked I ended up with two instances of the friend; finally I had to nuke it and start over, but thankfully it was at the beginning of the trip so it wasn't a huge deal, and eventually I got everything to work.

I also have a mild beef with the camera function when taking pictures of receipts. It doesn't give you the full camera area; it shows a square box within which you have to position the receipt. After you take the picture, ostensibly you can drag the picture around to fine-tune what portion of the receipt will be used. The problem is that it won't let you drag the picture down out of frame; it immediately snaps back. So in the end you just have to take pictures that are more zoomed out than necessary, just to make sure you can actually see everything.

Other than those two minor things, the app works just about flawlessly! Definitely recommend this!

Splitwise Great for keeping track of who owes you what

I've used this app several times. Mostly for trips or when I pay for something for other people. It has multiple ways to slip the bill. For example once had to slip a hotel room bill but I wasn't staying for all the days. I was able to calculate it on my own then just add how much it was for me then slip the rest. It also lets you add notes to explain the bill in detail.

When you receive payment you add it in and if the other party downloaded the app they will receive notifications of any changes they are part of.

I really liked using the app when we went on a trip in a group. Instead of dealing with money at lunch, dinner, taxi, show etc. someone would pay and we would enter it in the app. You can add notes and decide how to split it if it's not going to be even. You can also take a pic of the receipt.

To make it easy and instead of exchanging money multiple times a day. Once you want to settle the bill the app calculates who owes who what money.

For example, say you owe Mark $40 and Bill $80 and Mark owes Bill $40. The app will tell you to just pay Bill $120 since the money to Mark would then just get handed over to Bill. Less transactions = less awkwardness and more time to have fun on your trip.

I also use it to keep track of when I lend someone money.

Very useful app. Highly recommend it.

Splitwise Splitwise various button malfunctions

I’ll try to get all the details down here so perhaps the developers can track down these bugs. After nine twilight hour holes on the golf course, abs and about 5 lost balls with a mulligan taken on the ninth by of two of the three players, my friends and I went for Sushi in San Mateo. The sake was cloudy, but still more transparent than the Splitwise settle that was attempted an hour thereafter consumption of said sake (and some woodford reserve). I should also mention - for the sake of completeness- that we were denied a whiteboard advertised toro salmon (correct, salmon not tuna). In any case, I tried to settle up a $186.76 tab with a friend. I hit the payment button, and put the phone in my pocket. When I took the phone out again there seemed to be a different button that asked for what I took as confirmation needed of the original payment. I hit this one too. Turns out I double paid, and this only showed after inspection of Venmo accounts. There are some other bugs I’ve noticed - some buttons that simply don’t update when you hit them (like charging full amount to my friend doesn’t change the tag that I’m splitting the bill with him). I’d go into more detail but fear that this review is already getting “too much in the weeds”. For an app that deals with money and linked to my bank account there needs to be much better QA.

Splitwise I wish splitwise allowed group splitting w/o requiring everyone to signup

For example: my husband’s family is organizing a week long trip. Many of the family members are older and retired and not interested in joining Splitwise just to do math. BUT, I want to keep things simple and just enter into the app, everyone that’s a on the trip and will owe money to someone just to keep the accounting and to share my findings with the family. Since it’s not possible for me to get all 14 family members on board, it’s better if, I, at least get to use it as the family trip bookkeeper. Otherwise, I never use the app at all anymore. It would be hugely helpful if I could enter in every family member (without requiring them to sign up or use the app if they don’t want to), and then do the math of splitting the costs of the house vacation rental and food etc. And then, I can just tell everyone what they owe. This trip coming up, in particular, will be unique because there will be 2 newborns in the house, so simply dividing up the cost evening across total number of humans, doesn’t make sense. I really like the Splitwise has a way to split by shares and %. This would make things hugely simpler. I know you sacrifice potential users BUT isn’t it better that one person keeps using the app than no one using it? If I can’t just do the math for my family in the app, then i won’t use it at all, and that’s unfortunate because i really like the app and yet I can’t convince every retired adult to use it. Does that make sense? I hope it does.
My husband and I used to use the app before we got married, but now we haven’t touched it in years. Adding this functionality that I suggested above would guarantee I’d use it again for trips with groups and family.

Splitwise Not practical for travelers/non US

The features themselves are good.
Add activity, mention who paid, how you’re splitting, but it’s not practical for anyone outside of the USA.

My main complaint is that you can only set your default currency. If you’re traveling internationally and are spending in another currency, there is no easy way to differentiate the currencies spent, so your total balances across for contacts are off.

For example if you have the same people in 2 groups. In one group you put amounts in rupees (although the currency sign is your default since there is no easy way to change it) and the other is in dollars, your balance is not separated by currency, or converted into your default currency using the current FX spot rate.

So if I have a balance in 1 group of 10,000 INR which comes out to about 120 USD, and a dollar balance in another group that’s 320$ that is owed to me, it doesn’t calculate the total correctly.

This is especially complicated if ppl in your group don’t have the same base currency as you.

My suggestion:
Add the option to change/record currencies per group, or per transaction, rather than just default, and then calc balances per currencies. And people can look up the exchange rate themselves to settle up using an app like Converter+ (which is amazing btw)

OR

Add a feature to calculate the foreign currencies into the default currencies, so the totals by person/group are accurate. As long as the FX rate is visible for transparency.

If this was available this app would be easy to use and very practical for international travel. Right now this app is kind of useless to me. I’m travelling in 5 Asian counties with friends in 3 countries (with diff currencies) so its much easier to just calc offline.

Splitwise Like it, but need cleaner way to allocate payment logs

My partner and I live together and use this app to track shared expenses. It’s great for us, because we don’t share accounts/banks and don’t want to. Many apps appeal to that type of arrangement, but that’s not us. Financially, we function more like platonic roommates than like a married couple. I don’t need a shared budget or spending tracking tool. He doesn’t need to know all my financial business, lol. I just want a simple shared-expense splitter and tracker. This is the best one I’ve found.

Other things I really like:
- You can attach images (receipts, bills, and payment confirmations) to expenses AND payments
- Lot of flexibility adding event-specific registers in the form of Groups. Very handy for road trips, non-recurring budgets, or whatever. I wish I’d had this app in college!
- It’s simple to track changes on each transaction. I trust my partner, of course, but it’s nice to see change logs. It keeps everyone extra honest.

Now for some constructive criticism:

1.
I truly understand that much of the appeal of this app is that it’s extremely simple— it answers, “what’s the bottom line?”. However, I would like to make a suggestion that I think would improve user-friendliness and functionality.

When settling up and logging a payment, it would be very helpful if a menu then popped up listing specific outstanding balances. These of course could be taken from the expenses logged by the other party/ies, so the info would already be in the app.

I’d like to be able to select one or several due-expenses toward which I could allocate that specific payment. That would be extremely helpful.

Currently, I’m just adding comments to each payment record as I add it, indicating how much of that payment settles what expense. It’s time consuming.

It would just be nice to have a little more itemization as far as attaching payments to expenses. Maybe a nice, satisfying green checkmark icon showing that an individual logged expense has been paid in full by all parties. :)

Now, if you’re worried this would detract from a core benefit of your app, the simplicity? My suggestion would be to make this a user setting option. Or maybe you could simply add an option to the pop-up list of expenses that says, like, “assign this payment to overall balance due” or something. This would appeal to those users who enjoy the simple, bottom-line aspect.

I would definitely consider paying a subscription for added payment allocation functionality.

2.
Can you consider linking up with CashApp? That’d be excellent.

3.
Maybe a list of things totally paid off, and another list of items we’re still working on paying?

Thanks for reading.

Splitwise DANGEROUS

Might seem simple, but take a closer look.

The app keeps old allowances under "balances" even after they are deleted from "activity." So I paid a friend $6.71 as I was instructed to, but she deleted the $33 in gas from how much she was owed by a group of people and it didn't change the amount it told me to pay her. Dangerous problem with the app right there.

I'm also not sure why what's listed on "Settle Up" and what's listed on "Activity" are different.

Overall, Id give the app an F. Disorganized and dangerously ineffective.

Splitwise Could be better

The idea for this app is rock solid but what it delivers does not. My roommates and I got this app so that we could split utilities easier and it kinda worked. First, the UI is wildly confusing, and the screen is a bit cluttered and often times it is unclear who’s paying for what. Second is the clunky way the splitting up is handled, I really can’t describe what’s going on but there seem to be ghost expensive and some roommates paying more than others, it’s all rather hazy and unclear. After awhile we just went back to the old fashioned way of using a calculator.

Splitwise Nosey

Unless you’re willing to allow them access to your contacts you can’t use the app. I just needed to divide up a bill, not charge my friends or keep an account record of this fun time out. What was once an easy split isn’t worth the effort nor the obtrusive involvement. I’ll use a different app I tried awhile ago that simply split the bill.

Deleting this app unless the company changes the requirement to “know” who is splitting this bill with me. All they needed was “how many people” which could be done by a number, color, shape, any other indicator to divvy up the cost.

Splitwise Awful

The worst part is ironically the payments. All the app does is calculate how much you owe. It would be nice if you could connect payment providers directly to the app, I don’t see any way to do this that is immediately obvious. There is Splitwise pay also but the verification process is not very user friendly: you have to enter your information and then you cannot go back if you make a mistake. They only accept certain document types (pdf only?) and you don’t find this out until after you get all your documents downloaded and ready. Overall I’ll just use my calculator instead.

Splitwise So confusing - more trouble than its worth

I could have settled up my groups expenses in 10% of the time it took me to do it in Splitwise. First of all it allowed group members to pay to a Venmo account that didn’t exist (simply because my splitwise email differed from my Venmo email.)
Secondly, when I corrected an corner (changed it from one group member to another) the accounting went haywire and double charged everyone.
I’ve use Splitwise before without trouble so I’m not sure if there’s a glitch in an update or what happened. But after this debacle, I will not use it again if I’m the one in charge of settling expenses for a group.

Splitwise Fails constantly, can double bill you

My housemates used this app to pay bills, and it was absolutely awful. I don’t know what about our setup made it so bad, but i would say about 50% of Splitwise bills I was sent would get screwed up when I tried to pay with Venmo (Splitwise would think I paid and I didn’t, or the money would go through but Splitwise would think I didn’t pay). I just settled up my last bill with Splitwise, and it double charged me through Venmo. Horrible application, I will be deleting it now that I’m moving and will not be using it again. Without exaggeration, this is probably the worst app I’ve used in any context.

Splitwise Upgrade Needed--- Netting Across People

The app is a fine way to track expenses but there is not netting across a group so the app is inefficient.

Here is an example:
Sam owes Jane $50
Beth owes Sam $25
Tim owes Sam $25
Beth owes Jane $10
Tim owes Jane $15

Sam must pay Jane while being paid by Beth and Tim (making 3 transaction). Beth and Tim have to pay Sam and Jane. It would be better if there was netting across people so that Tim could pay Jane $40 and Beth pays Jane $35--- thus Jane is made whole and Sam didn't have any additional transaction.

Without netting across people it becomes inefficient. Upgrades could correct this issue.

Splitwise Finance as a side effect

How can an app make assumption on where to send the money? PayPal and Venmo linking can’t be a side effect of setting up an email. Splitwise assumes the email is shared between splitwise and PayPal. With Venmo, it assumes that the app installed on your phone is the way to go. With money transfer, things need to be explicit and not a side effects. I need to be able to select a PayPal account or Venmo account. I also need the ability to allow usage of Venmo or PayPal, again it is implicit. If the password for Splitwise is leaked, all of a sudden I am getting all the Venmo money for this user. That is messed up and insecure.

Splitwise Has potential but still needs a lot of work

The dashboard is confusing and awkward. If you pay someone individually outside the groups, the app’s display is a mess and shows two separate fees instead of combining them. The itemized receipt option is the main reason I use it but it’s not on the app only on the website. After a dinner with a group, I have to wait to go home to go on the website to tell everyone how much they owe me. I’m forced to use this app to split expenses with my roommates for the past three years. Still no updates or improvements with the interface or making it more user friendly. This does get the job done and could have been great but I guess the app’s motto is if ‘it ain’t broken why fix it?’

Splitwise Total Disaster

A large group of us downloaded the app to use for a big holiday weekend. We were really excited at the thought of such an easy way to manage our group kitty and to track shared expenses. What started as a way to make the whole weekend feel a little more carefree quickly spiraled into a friendship ending disaster. Arguments ensued about whom to payback when, why and how owed money might change; peoples worst sides came out because of all this confusion about something as simple as our bbq dinner tab! In the end we still had to put it down on paper because duh we’re idiots. It’s been three days and we are still sorting this out. Quickly running out of food and water because no one wants to add more to the tab. Plz Send help.

Splitwise DUMB APP DOESN’T HAVE PROPER VENMO INTEGRATION

My friend just tried settling a debt on Splitwise and decided to pay me via Venmo. But, since my Splitwise account has a different email address than my Venmo account, that money is stuck in the process. Now he’s having to go through a great ordeal to get the transaction canceled on Venmo, and I’m stuck not getting paid in the process. This shows how shortsighted the developers of this application are and how precariously this application functions. You guys probably have all this in the user agreement or whatever to protect your behinds, but mistakes like this can happen in real life. Just stick to just being an application company that just adds/subtracts numbers and simplies connected graphs or whatever, and stop trying to add features that callously handles others people’s money!

Splitwise Worst app I’ve ever used

This UX is terrible. You can’t see your individual payouts from each person, nor how much they owe you. If someone deletes the expense you charged them, it deletes it for everyone else and then you have to charge everyone again. You cannot see how much you paid all together, nor how much in total you owe. The list of payouts they present is very messy and disorganized. Also, the group and non group expenses are confusing, because apparently you have to choose the group and then unclick names, if you do non group expenses, it doesn’t show on the other users end. Referring to a UX such as Venmo is something you guys should do. It comes second nature to people and would be an easy experience to have a similar UX to Venmo that is more clean and will be an easier transition for new users to understand.

Splitwise Unable to log in with Facebook

I was sent a link to join a group and logged in through Facebook. Now when I download the app I cannot log in through Facebook on the app because that feature doesn’t exist.

I’m supposed to be able to log in through my browser through Facebook and then either set or reset a password. However the link to “continue to the Splitwise website” doesn’t work and just leaves me on the same page.

And when I try to use the reset my password link by giving them my email it takes me to a page to reset it, but tells me there was an authorization error when I enter my new password. It tells me I need to enable cookies or something but cookies were enabled by default in both my safari and chrome browser and it still doesn’t work.

So now without an actual desktop or laptop I have no way to access my account.

Splitwise Such potential but too many issues at the moment

I love the idea of Splitwise, I really do, but there are various issues.

1. Why is there no option to reverse an action if someone in the group settles up too early? Makes it very complicated.

2. There should be the option for one person in the group to be the captain or CFO, and only that person can give permission to everyone to settle up. We used it all weekend and one person settled up too early and now the whole tab is messed up and we have to redo it by hand.

3. Also, originally (when I first used Splitwise over two years ago) Splitwise would make it so you owed the the least amount of people in the group and the least amount of people owed you. The past two times I’ve used it with a group, I’ve had to pay numerous people and numerous people have had to pay me. Seems like something has changed.

Splitwise Terrible UX

This app is cluttered and requires too many taps to complete entering an expense. I used the free version, and the activity page is so poorly constructed and difficult to follow. You can’t even search an expense in the free version. It’s far too time consuming to use. This app only makes sense if you want to add an expense infrequently, but at that point, just use Venmo. If you share a lot of expenses, you spend a lot of time entering it all manually. It also sometimes erases your calculations when you switch to another app for a moment. I know you can get more features in the paid version, but for the app design I have seen already, I’m not tempted. I don’t think it should take so many taps just to enter one expense, and I think it’s unfair such a basic function as a SEARCH should only come with the paid version.

Splitwise Erratic-unsatisfied

Every single month you guys split my bills so erratically. Your app constantly makes mistakes.. my inquiry is whether I’m
Being blocked from portions of my group account because I feel like either your app is absolutely pointless and flaw or absurdly that it does not do its task properly in any way other than the clean look of it. Every single month there have been comically large mistakes on your part. I need to know whether your app is the most inefficient algorithm or program I have ever used in my entire life OR my roommates are trying to hide real bill prices? If it is the latter than your app is cleverly designed to be fair and is difficult to alter with and so a great tool or (I’m being very sincere and not intentionally malicious) this app is so pointless I would suggest to anyone who is thinking of using it that they would be better of PAYING for a remedial calculator rather than downloading this for FREE.
