Stein Mart racial profiling incident - 2855 ridge rd. rockwall, tx 75032 location

On, Saturday, 8/25/2018 at around 7:30 p.m. I came into this particular store to locate Versace perform. I'm a regular Stein Mart elite preferred customer with a credit card account that just got increased by Stein Mart without my request. I'm painting this picture to explain that I've been a regular customer for over 8 years at this same store and other Stein Mart stores. But on this date, I was talking to 2 of your Sale Team members and explaining that I was so glad to see that this store was still selling the Versace perfume because 3 other Stein Mart stores did not carry this brand at all. I explained in general conversation that it was my birthday and I was treating myself. I got 3 bottles of Versace (Crystal Noir, Yellow Diamond, and the pink bottle). As soon as I placed the 3 bottles in my cart, the lady with the turban on her head asked if she can take the bottles to the front of the store. It sort of startled me and she came towards the basket to get the perfume. I explained that I had other shopping to do, but then she said "It's not that we don't trust you, but there are others that steal and we would prefer to take these to the front of the store". I looked at her because I was surprised because I have never been told to do this before in 8 years at this same location. So why NOW? I looked at her and let her know that she can take the perfume to the front, but she needs to make absolutely certain that she's TREATING (ALL) customers the same way. I'm African American age 54. She didn't respond, but I could tell by the expression on her face that she understood what I was saying. I also escalated this to the store manager and her response was that she's sorry that I was offended. It's not just being offended, it's inconsistency. She then said that it's because it's late at night and it's expensive perfume. I pointed to purses that are expensive and no one is telling those customers (white females) to bring those to the front of the store. She said that they were locked up, and I corrected her that the $70+ dollar purses on the aisles were not locked up and they cost more than the $57 perfume. So this again is not consistent. When I shared with her that I would register my complaint and not shop at this store again, she then seemed to get my point and then tried to apologize and give me a $10.00 coupon discount on my purchase. She said she would speak with the Sales person, but I explained YOUR Training needs to be consistent. If you're concerned about perfume theft, lock it up and get everyone to bring it to the front of the store in the future so that you don't offend the next African American customer. I purchase the perfume and the 2nd store attendant that witnessed what I went through said "Enjoy your Birthday". Again this is evidence that I had a cordial conversation with them before this occurred.

Someone could easily take a bottle of the perfume from your cart and hide it on their person. They can't exactly do that with a purse.

Defintely, a bunch of malarkey! Why wouldn't anyone want to steal out of your cart and create a situation of a bunch of eye witnesses. I too was a loyal Stein Mart customer; but now I have to reevaluate that I have been racial profiled twice. Once in Ponte Vedra, Florida and once at the San Jose Jacksonville, Florida location. In Ponte Vedra, Florida location I was trying on clothes and the same sales clerk opened the fitting door twice in less than 4 minutes apart and the sales clerk at the San Jose location opened the door too while I was trying on clothes. Now this is completely unjustifiable and unethical considering I am 5'8 and you can see my head over the door. There needs to be fitting room etiquette training or to hire workers with common sense. You can either say hello is anybody in here and wait for a response prior to opening the door, in my case, look straight ahead, if you see a head there is someone in the fitting room or just bend down if you see legs, there is someone in the fitting room. Ironically, the store already has the fitting room doors designed where there should never be a mistake of opening the door while someone is in the fitting room. However, because this occurred twice it appears this maybe an organizational policy. It is 2018 we should not be experiencing racial profiling. Has anyone else experienced this? A company that racial profiles is not deserving of my money.

Stein Mart returns

I was shipped THE WRONG ITEM. It has taken 2 hrs and 9 minutes on the phone and I still don't have a refund for the return shipping. They have out and out lied to me. This is the worst retailer I have ever done business with. Order from them at you own peril. You probably will get no satisfaction from customer service. They say "hold on a minute or 2, " and after 6-7 minutes you are still on hold. Find yourself another online retailer!

Stein Mart poor return policy!

I had just purchased a pricey top and after trying it on realizing it was a bad fit.
I went to the store the very next day with the tags, original bad at receipt. The clerk immediately turned away my return saying my shirt was dirty and worn. I was completely offended because the shirt was not dirty AT ALl and if it was I bought it that way. She also said the tag was no good which is crazy. I couldn't even get a store credit! As much as I like the products in stein mart I will never go back due to the terrible return policy and poor customer service. Coming from someone who was previously a retail manager and currently work in customer service I was VERY disappointed.

Stein Mart online order

I recently ordered a 48 piece dinnerware set from steinmart.com to be delivered to my home. I was not sent my dinnerware set; I was not sent anything at all. The cardboard box that was delivered to my house was empty. Completely empty. Someone actually taped up a box with absolutely nothing in it, slapped a label on it, and shipped it to me. I don't know whether I'm more angry or confused...

Stein Mart management

Lexington SC store has manager and asst. that are incompetent, rude and arrogant! They make the store seem like a 1940s sweat shop! They are disrespectful and ignorant of running a proper store! There is NO training of any kind and no information as to days business, coupons or needs to proceed! Nothing is set up to standards and schedules are a joke! Never consistent! Break space is nasty and insufficient!

Stein Mart lack of delivery options

I went to the Steinmart on Laurens Road in Greenville, South Carolina to purchase a rather large armchair. When I asked about delivery, I was told they don't deliver. I was then asked, "Don't you have a friend with a truck?" When I said I then wouldn't purchase the chair, I was met with a shoulder shrug.
If you're going to sell items of large furniture, I would think you would have some sort of delivery system in place. '
Not only did you lose a significant sale, but you have also lost a long-time customer.

Stein Mart horrible employee work conditions at stein mart, store #392 in brookhaven, ga

In the time that I've been employed at Stein Mart, store #392 in Brookhaven, GA the work conditions and treatment of employees have been the worst that I've come across in my entire work experience. To start off there are different dress codes for employees, management, and when there is a visit from the district manager. The store manager and assistant store manager wear sneakers and jeans. They are hardly ever dressed business professional unless their boss is visiting the store. Both the store manager and assistant store manager allow their employees to wear jeans and sneakers on the regular bases but when their boss comes for a visit to the store they call out their employees in front of everyone for being out of dress code. How are we supposed to dress if the dress code changes on a whim? To be honest, they are just trying to cover themselves in front of the boss. I feel there needs to be one set dress code for everyone and it needs to be enforced. Now for the second issue, at store #392 in Brookhaven, GA the assistant store manager feels that it is okay to force employees to stay up to an hour and a half after closing because her ride isn't on time. Her excuse is that corporate's policy states that we must all leave the building together at night for security purposes. Now, this doesn't mean she has the right to keep us in the store after hours because she is waiting for her ride and does not want to wait outside by herself. I feel that corporate should notify and correct her of her wrongdoings. Next, the store manager and assistant store manager don't like to accept a request for days off unless it is for a doctor or dentist appointment and even then they are questioning employees about personal things. Legally they are not supposed to question employees about any personal information. It's hard to even try to plan around the work schedule because next week's schedule isn't posted until late in the week. Also, store #392 in Brookhaven, GA was 6 months behind on the surveys that are supposed to be filled out each month. So, they told us to fill them out and not write the day on them, then if we were too honest in our surveys they forced us to rewrite them. As you can see these are just some of the issues with how store #392 in Brookhaven, GA is being run unproductively and inefficiently. I am pleading that these issues are addressed and handled immediately.

Stein Mart poor customer service

I am an elite costumer, who has shopped at poway for 15 years. I stopped going there because I was tired of their poor costumer service. After some time, I decided to give them a chance again and I went back to the store. The cashier jennifer, told me that there were no coupons at that time, so I decided to put my two dresses on hold for the next day. When I came back the next day they could not find one of my dresses because she misplaced it and it turned out that there was a 30% off coupon the whole week. I had to waste my time looking for the dress all over the store when I gave up and went to pay for some other dress they decided that the dress was actually in the room where they could not find it at the beginning. I also had to remind her to give me the coupon that I was supposed to get from the day before.

What a horrible customer service. I am so disappointed!

I found the cashier to be unhelpful and irritated during the sales transaction. She couldn't find my preferred customer information by my phone number but didn't bother to tell me, or offer to look it up under another means. She was irritated and only did so only because I insisted, and then found it. I asked if there were any coupons she could provide but told "no" yet another cashier did it for their customer. I eventually found one on my phone and used it. I left feeling disappointed and offended by her interaction with me. Never had this problem their before, usually employees there are pleasant.

Stein Mart patio dress - sku [protected]

On 5/27/2018 approximately approximately 4:53 p.m. while shopping with a friend / teacher friend in your Merchant Walk store in Marietta, GA, store 073, she did not receive the item, Patio Dress - SKU [protected].

I often visit this location to shop because of the selection. My friend does not. I also have a Steinmart credit card. I made a purchase of a black travel bag, shirt and silver hoop earrings. My friend purchased 3 other tops plus the patio dress. The cashier went to bag the items by putting the items in a garment bag, leaving the items on the hanger and tying a knot at the bottom of the bag. We went to car and drove off. We went to a TJMaxx, Applebees and made it home around 8:30 p.m. in time to watch the game. I received about 7 calls around 9:00 p.m. while on a long distance call with a family member from my friend. I text her and said is everything ok, on a long distance call. she text back at 9:07 p.m. My black dress is not in the bag. At that time the store was close and we could not call or go back to the store. I told her to check her receipt to make sure Steinmart charged her for the item. She said yes, 4 items. She said, "There is 4 items but 3 items, the dress must have fallen off while bagging the items."

My friend, Brenda Johnson, called back this morning when the location opened and spoke with Michael. He told her he looked at the video, checked the floor and went to the rack where the dress is located and it is not in the store. Brenda told him she called because we live a distance away and she wanted to inform them before coming. Michael said the item was put in the bag but he cannot allow us to view the video because of policy. Brenda and I explained to Michael, we are teachers, not trying to get over, just would like to get the item paid for. Brenda is preparing to go on a trip with her students to Italy.

I shop here a lot and is disappointed in the customer service. The way it was handled assumes we got the item, end of discussion. We did not get the item and this is why we are calling.

I would like to see a resolution or I will pay off my account and close it out immediately. I will not shop at Steinmart anymore and will share with everyone I know that shop at Steinmart. If you can't trust your customers and provide customer service, I will spend my money elsewhere.

I hope to get a prompt response and resolution. Have a good day.

Stein Mart attempted purchase of a bowl

I was at Steinmart in Jacksonville earlier today. It was the store on Roosevelt Blvd. I was trying to purchase a cereal/ soup bowl with a lobster design. There was a bar code on the bottom but no Steinmart price label. None of the other bowls had a price ticket either. It would not ring up for purchase so the cashier called the manager. She walked off with the bowl. I waited with the cashier for about 10 minutes. I then ask her how long it would take. She called the manager on the intercom and ask her to call her. The manager did. The cashier hung up and said she was waiting to hear from the other store and did not know how long it would take. She did not know. I waited another 5 minutes and decided against the purchase as I did not want to wait any longer.

A good manager would have offered me the bowl at a reasonable price to begin with. I know this because I have done a good deal of shopping in my life and have had similar experiences at other stores. After I had waited 10 minutes, the manager should have told the sales girl to sell at a reasonable price. Clearly having a customer wait for 15 minutes plus to get a price on such a small item is poor decision making and management.

Former Stein Mart employee here. so, in order to give you a price, there needs to be a bar code to scan. Hence, the reason for calling another store. If that store you were at didn't have anymore of those bowls in stock, they would need to call another store to get the barcode number. They can't just punch in a price and call it a day. There has to be a bar code first. Just so you know.

Stein Mart customer service at steinmart colonial plaza, orlando, florida

On May 8, 2018 I went to return a pair of pantyhose that I bought about a week earlier. I haven't purchased hosiery in a long time, and I thought the pair that I bought was still my size. It DID say on the package that I could fit into the size I had always bought before. When I got home I took them out of the package and threw the outside packaging away, but I kept the plastic bag that was covering them on the inside. I didn't try them on right away because I assumed I had the right size. A few days later I tried to put them on and they were very tight. I mean unusually tight. I could just get them over my knees! I know I have gained some weight since I wore hose years ago, but NOT THAT MUCH! I should've been able to get them up further than my knees. And don't forget, the package said I would fit into a size A. I think they may have been defective. Anyway, I decided to take them back and return them for another pair. I thought I would try a size B and see if that would fit better. When the customer service lady came up to assist me she said, "There's no packaging." I said, "I have the bag they were in and my receipt." "There's no packaging. We can't sell those." Well, the way I look at it is... I am the customer and the customer is supposed to be happy, so a store or business should always do what they can to make the customer happy (within reason). I wasn't being unreasonable, but personally, I don't care that they can't re-sell the product. All I know is I CAN'T USE THEM and I want another pair or my money back!
I didn't say all that to her. All I did was tell her that I had the receipt and I just stood there for a few seconds, then she SNATCHED the bag and receipt out of my hand and huffed off to the register. I calmly told her that with her attitude I will never shop at that store again. Her response was, "I'm sorry to hear that." I ended up with a Steinmart card with the amount I spent for the hose. I don't know what I'm going to do with it, but at least they didn't get to keep the money. Someone needs to train the staff at these stores. I have seen times when the staff are very demeaning to other staff members and they are rude to customers. If Steinmart wants to stay in business you (corporate office) better do something. I'm going to tell everyone I know not to shop at Steinmart stores anywhere!

I bought two pair and was give 30% off on ONE pair. She said she gave it to me on the most expensive pair. What does that have to do with anything?

Stein Mart poor customer service

I visited the Chattanooga Stein Mart on Monday, April 16. I frequently go there because it is so close to my place of employment and I love going there to Destress and get away from it all for a few minutes. I have always loved the clothing selection at Stein Mart and that is primarily the reason why I go. However, I was very bothered at my most recent visit. First of all, there was a young lady who appeared to be some type of lead manager in the women's section. She started telling another older lady associates what to do on the floor. She started telling her to clean the clothes racks. The tone and the demanding attitude she had with this lady disgusted me. I could not believe that someone would speak to someone so disrespectful and harshly. She continued to bark orders at her and would point out Things that were messed up and they have been that way for a couple days I work as a director in a local assisted living here and Chattanooga and I would never think of treating any of my associate the way that she treated her. I will think twice before going back to that store because I do not condone how she was treated. The lady who is my cashier also had a terrible attitude
She was not inviting, she did not smile one time and was just overall looks miserable to be there. If this is how steinmarttreats their staff I will not be aligning myself with this company any longer thank you

Stein Mart sale clerk and misleading sales sign

My mother and I shop at steinmart in hendersonville nc often. We had shopped just weeks prior and she spent over 200.00 that day. She is an elderly women, my mother. On 4-10-18 she needed to exchange 2 items for a different size. The clerk said just go get the size you need and we will take care of it when you come back up.
Well I know how my mother is and knew she would be a while and would also add to her past purchase. She got the right size and collected another 200.00 extra purchase with her return. One of the items where a pair of slippers that said on the sign "up to 65% off regular price and additonal 30% off reduced price." the clerk rang it up and I stopped her and said it said 65 % off and 30% she had first rung it up right and then took it off and added it back the % to where it was not 65% off only, it did not state at all what percent was off. The principle of me wanting to know how she got that price was "it should state what %"so the customer can figure it to make sure they are getting what they were lead to believe". But I did question it and wanted to bring it to the managers attention, its misleading. As I said my mother just spent another 200.00, 400.00 in just 2weeks at this store. Its not about the money, it was the misleading part and the clerk.
It was all fine until the clerk got very rude and disrespectful. I had just got off work myself and had my company shirt still on. The clerk was rude by throwing the other garment s that where on the counter to another counter. And thats when I asked mother"did she really need this stuff"? The clerk immediately said"I didnt say anything". And that was the wrong procedure for a person in customer service to say! I am in hospitality and I have to work with the public everyday. I choose my job just as she did. It takes a very well composed person to do customer service. You have to be aware of all your actions. We as valued employees have to let every guest, customer, patron leave with the sense that they are also a value to us. My concern is that the bad reflection she left not only on me but my mother and other customers that where there and saw her actions. I had to walk out of the store and let my mother finish and clerk then told my mother that she didnt do anything and my mom explained to her it was about the money its about the sign being misleading. And she still continued to talk about how she only makes 8.00$ an hour... When you are in a situation like that its best just to keep your (being bold here) mouth shut! I know, I have to do it everyday. This is a small town and people pretty much know everybody so word of mouth can be damaging but as I said its not about the money, its the way it was all handled. And the manager should have finished the check out to insure complete satisfaction. Completely unsatisfactory customer service.

Stein Mart product and service

Went in Stein mart in Colorado. Springs on. Neveda. The manager was really rude. I brought in my receipt to return a purse that I told her I used and it was too small. She told me to insert my card for return- I waited bad then she says I can't sell tbis. I told her I was expecting her to sell it. I used it as had no use for it. Even a offer to exchange would have been nice. She was extremely unprofessiona. Took my card out the machine and put it on the countsr. Not hapoy. All my friends wonder why I shop at Stien Mart. Now I am wondering too. Something needs to be done about this. I want to hear back from someone with a solintim. Pretty please.

Stein Mart rude customer service/employee

I shopped at the steinmart located in seminole, fl on march 31st. I purchased 3 items. When I returned home, which is nearly 10 miles away, I realized that I was missing one of the items. I immediately called the store to let them know what had happened and wanted to see if the item had been turned to a service desk or manager. The lady who answered the phone was rude from the very first word. I explained to her that I had shopped there about an hour earlier and one of my items were not put in my bag. Her response was "and" I was taken back by her rude tone and response then explained that I am coming back to retrieve the item and just wanted to make sure that they retrieve it from the cashier where I checked out. She then snapped back with "well then what was it", after I told her she again very rudely told me that she "found" them and put the item back on the shelve where it goes". I was surprised that this was what she was telling me and asked her if she meant that she found them at the checkout counter where they didn't make it into my bag with the other items. She snapped"no I found them "and then said"I don't have time for this call". At this time I asked to speak to a manager. Still rude she said"yes that's fine". I was put on hold for another 15 minutes until another employee answered and asked what I was put on hold for. I told her that I was holding to speak to a manager. She was having trouble figuring out how to put the call on hold and then hung up. I called back to ask for a manager and spoke with a meghan webber. I explained to her the whole conversation with the first employee who answered my call and also the situation of my missing item. She said that she probably didn't realize her tone. I let her know that it definitely was not a mistaken tone. I proceeded to tell he that I am going to make a complaint to the corporate office. The manager told me that the cashier that returned my item to her and that it was on her desk. When I drove back to the store with my baby to tow for the second time, I walked in and an employee, not sure if she was the manager or not, handed me the item while she was on the phone and didn't speak a word to me. I took my item and just walked out. Steinmart will not be a place I will ever want to shop and or recommend it to anyone else. I was a regular shopper at steinmart in seminole and also in jacksonville. The employee and very rude and unhelpful and will let you know that they are really busy. The tyoe of customer service is unacceptable for what is suppose to be nice family oriented department store. My problem wasn't a mistake with a missing item. It is how rudely I was treated. I hope that this isn't how all the customers are treated.

I visited the Stein-mart store in Biloxi, MS. today. I was in line with 3 shirts and 2 pairs of pants. The cashier took so long on the customer in front of me trying to save her money, with coupons and applying for credit. When I got to check out the cashier totaled me and I had a coupon out of the sale paper I received and she snapped at me to let me know nothing I had was on sale so the coupon I had was not worth anything. It was only a 20% off one item which would have been a total of 7.00 off my total bill of 161.00. She did not offer me that if I applied for credit I could get another discount. I left the store with NOTHING. I immediately called the manager at let her know of my disappointment.
I also told her that I was going to file a complaint.

Stein Mart steinmart mastercard

Yesterday I went to use my Steinmart Mastercard & was unable to. I was so disappointed & shocked when I was told that I had to have an USA address. I have used tis card before to put an order in January. Why was I able to use this card before without a problem. what is wrong with my Canadian address? I do have a address in Blaine WA where I have my order sent. But I do not want a statement of my account sent there because this is my private business. Besides they don't want my personal mail sent to their business. I feel this is a bad policy that you have and you have just lost a valued customer. Unless you can inform me of another way that I can use the Steinmart credit card to shop in your stores. Otherwise this card is useless to me. It is also sad that there isn't a store close to me. If there was a store in Bellingham WA I certainly would shop there. Would you give me the courtesy to reply to my questions.

Stein Mart very rude customer service

I have shopped at Stein Mart since my early twenties. I am now 58 years old. I have never experienced the sheer rudeness I experienced today, March 13, 2018 at any store and was stunned when it happened at my favorite store, Stein Mart.

Today, my daughter and I were spending her college spring break having an enjoyable mother-daughter day shopping and decided to shop at Stein Mart in the Eastgate Shopping Center located Memphis, TN. around the 11:00 a.m. hour. Although I live in Lakeland, TN and would past another Stein Mart in route to our home, I knew the item we wanted would be carried at the larger Eastgate location.

Of course we found the item and went to check out. Because it was midday on a Tuesday, no-one else was being checked out. The cashier acknowledged our presence and scanned the item. There was another Stein Mart employee standing nearby. They were having a conversation when she scanned our item. Once she scanned the item, I inserted my debit card and entered the requested pin number. At this point the cashier stopped serving us. She did not move away from her register, but began speaking again to her fellow employee. My daughter and I exchanged glances at each other and continued to wait. Their conversation continued and she made no eye contact or signal for us to give her a moment. They were discussing a new apartment complex being built in the inner city of Memphis. The discussion continued for approximately four to five minutes. In disbelief we continued to wait and glance at each other because at this point my debit card had been used and I had not received my item.

Neither woman stopped and addressed us. Finally, the cashier turned to her register and completed whatever she needed to do to close out our item. She never apologized or acknowledged that she had completely ignored us as customers. We took our item and left the store. Once in the car I attempted twice to call the store and speak with the manager. On both calls the person placed me on hold and then hung up.

I am still in shock because I love Stein Mart and would have never believed this would happen to a customer. There is clearly nothing the company can do to repair rudeness, but I was so shocked and hurt I decided to send a written complaint. I am sorry to say although I love the store, I will never shop with Stein Mart again.
