Unethical operations manager behavior
I am a site supervisor for Sunstates Security. I found out I had a severe health issue in 7/22. This caused me to miss quite a bit of work. Four days aftervI had the clot removed I found out my wife needed open heart surgery. I had to miss work to be there for her because we have no family. Yesterday my operations manager met with me and stated due to my...

Not getting paid for the time I worked.
For the second time my check has been cut short. After I already have reminded my employer that assigned me these extra shifts. I have bills to pay, that come with deadlines. Now I’m having to wait until the next pay period so I won’t have as much overtime & more taxes. So I would like to proceed legally if need to be.
Desired outcome: To be compensated immediately & rewarded for my inconvenience.

New hire
It was my 2nd day of being in office and I wasn't thru with getting through my trainings for this new position they offered me. Mind you, I told the man that hired me to put me somewhere where i'd be active and not bored cause I can't stay in one place for a long time. And I do have a health problem that isn't really considered a disability but it could happen whenever and wherever. I came into work and I can admit that that day wasn't a good one for me like everybody does. But I came in watching just cameras and not being taught how to used to phone or respond back to the officers on the walker talkie. I was just sitting around watching cameras like the other lady in the back room was doing. After watching it for long periods of time, my eyes started hurting along with having a headache. So I just wanted to close my eyes for a little bit and this white lady, ms. Morris, comes up and tell me "to get my [censored] and leave" and I asked her could I at least whip my eyes down or something and she said "no you just need to get your stuff and leave" in a very rude and harming voice. This was my first time ever doing something and I had just started working here being that I didn't have proper trainings. I kept having to ask questions everyday and at first they put on in a vehicle to patrol (this is what my job title was) and they ended up sticking me in a office everyday other than trying to leave me train some more for the job. I still even had lessons and trainings to finish that were reset to me after covid-19. I don't know this ms. Morris lady but I have never seen someone just curse someone's child out and gotten terminated when she's the one that cursed me out and was being very rude and taking about me at the time I arrived. I will never refer anyone to work there, it was a complete waste of time! She was extremely nasty and really disrespectful and they don't teach you anything but for you to just sit around and keep asking questions that they should've informed you of. Never work here! They just want to fired you without a warning!
Harassment on myself
Good Morning my name is Mozart Chevalier supervisor for Sunstates Security in Harrisburg, PA at 6455 Allentown Blvd. I know its early but this has been bothering me a lot. On Monday, Feburary 17 2020 at approximately 1545hrs which is 3:45pm Manager Anitra Prempeh came to meet myself and other officers for the first time.
On my application I guess I checked the wrong box as far as putting spouse on there. I put Dorsa Fowler as a spouse mistakenly, we do live in the same apartment, I rent out a room from Dorsa. Dorsa is a friend.
Dorsa Fowler is an Officer for Sunstates Security, I drop her off at work every day at 4pm, but that's personal.
Anitra Prempeh was harassing me about who is Dorsa Fowler to me, she asked me "is that my girlfriend" and I said "NO". She then, said "stop lying" I said "I'm not". She asked "me who drops her off" I said "me". She said who takes her home I said I don't know maybe she takes an Uber. I am always at work.
So then she says, she will look in my beneficiary to see who I put down which I thought was an invasion of privacy and threaten to fire me if she seen Dorsa was on the paper.
So as she was helping me do fingerprints, she seen that I had a wedding band she continued her harrassment and she asked me why do I have a wedding band on, she said does it mean anything? She said you don't have to lie, making me feel uncomfortable from the time I got there.

Inefficient management
I worked for Sunstates Security from January 2011-June 2012. I began my employment with them at the Apex Tools site, I was hired as a 32 hour a week employee. I was finishing my last year at NC State University when I accepted the job, and the job seemed like a good opportunity for me to use my education and military experiences to help me further develop my professional abilities. The pay was extremely low 8.35/hr but I made an agreement and went to work eager to develop as a professional. Within one week, I was given a full 40 hour a week position, Monday through Friday. I was really happy about this and as soon as I accepted the position I began to address the issue of low pay. I asked if there was anything that I could do to justify a higher wage. I was told that the company had to offer something to the client to justify a pay increase for the guards. I said no problem, I was a trained fire fighter from my time in the Navy and I could improve their safety procedures. So I made an updated storm shelter location sheet for the office, an emergency evacuation route sheet for the office, a fire extinguisher location sheet for the office, and a power point presentation on first response to fire, safety, and medical emergencies. I was promoted to site supervisor of the PNC Plaza site after only six weeks of employment with the company. After I took over the PNC Plaza site I was named Officer of the month twice. However, my story is no praise of Sunstates Security.
To begin with, the PNC Plaza is a mixed use (Commercial and residential) thirty-three story high rise. It is the tallest building in Raleigh, NC. I first built trust with my team, a great group of guards who were extremely undervalued, and gained the trust of the client again. The Guards and I, began this process by taking small steps... we learned the names of the tenants and greeted them, we enforced access control rules on a consistent basis, and we built a great and well educated patrol system with the assistance of the clients knowledge of the equipment inside the building. Things were running smoothly until the pay became an issue. With all the reforms that were brought to the site. the guards wanted to be fairly compensated for their part in upholding them. The contract only paid them 9/hr. This was a gross under payment of their job duties. When Sunstates didn't fairly compensate the guards they left for better paying jobs. As a result, I had to use my relationship with the guards on the Highwoods Account to fill these extra shifts.
I expected that there would be a couple of rough weeks but new enthusiastic employees would be found and trained. This didn't happen. Unfortunately, five separate shifts were left open for about six months. I was able to identify the guards who were working towards paying off bills or saving for something they wanted and offer them hours. For the first few months it wasn't ideal but at least functional. Then the office stepped in. No over time was permitted. I said the heck with that, if you don't want over time then hire some quality guards to fill these positions. Soon they began to have me promise people over time to take it away later. I would call and say hey I need someone, and then later in the week the Account Manager would say call "x" person and say take the day off... he would cover the shift so there was no over time. Basically guards began to give up Saturday and Sunday's for Tuesdays and Wednesdays. After a month or two basically people refused to do supposed over time shifts. Sunstates decided they would then bring in untrained guards to sit the shift. This really ticked me off... I gave the client my word I would never allow a violation of contract under my administration. When I reported this to the front office they wanted one of their famous meetings at the office. I was told HR would not be present because it was just a discussion and no retaliation would take place. They lied and tried to retaliate by sending me to a different site for two weeks as punishment for calling out their inefficiencies. Their plan was to divide and conquer. Send me away so they could have the other guards they didn't like mike a simple mistake and justify firing them. I was outraged and quit.
I wish I could say this is the only horrible incident with Sunstates Security that I experienced... but that would be a lie. I wish all their employees good luck, there are some really good employees that work for them. However, this is a horribly mismanaged company.
Training bs
This company feeds employees a great line about all the opportunities the TSC program will provide. IT IS BULL! All this position consists of is more work and no reward for the TSC. Supposedly the TSC was supposed to get all kinds of certifications, now it seems like we will have to pay for this out of our own pocket! I could hardly pay all my bills on the meager amount that this company pays! Plus there was all this extra work that came with the job, I know some items had to be done when classes were taught, but the "training director' wanted us to keep track of all the sites in the region...isn't that what the site supervisors are for? Or better yet, isn't that what he gets paid to do? Never mind his constant talking about all the things he has done and how great he is! What a crock! This company used to have a great training director, but he must have got fed up with all the BS as well and moved on to greener pastures! Word to the wise, if anyone approaches you about becoming part of the TSC program, RUN! This group wants to do nothing but use you up until you don't have anything else left and then they will move on to the next person that beleives all their lies!

The strategy for the training program evolved out of more than 25 years of industry experience. Instead of taking a one-size-fits-all approach to training, we have an extensive, steadily expanding library of available courses that we consider to be the building blocks for an effective training program. During the transition process, our trainer works with the operations management team and the client to identify the best combination of building blocks – training courses – to train security officers to the specific requirements of the site. In this way, we custom-develop the training curriculum for each site from the ground up.
No integrity
I agree, i worked for this company and they treatedme like trash, i came in and worked hard and did what ever they told me to do. I made one mistake (with really wasnt a violation) that they didnt like and they snatched my sites from under me. They changed my rate of pay on my check without my knowledge, they said i would get paid one thing and paid me less. im grown and i have bills and they played with my hours and they do anything to saved from paying overtime so they use people just to come in and work one, two, or three days a week just to cover someone elses day off. And thats it. they will do anything to increase profit anf they dont give a rip about the employee. They gas your head up with all the so called "opportunity" and then stick you on a site and forget about you. then you cant get them on the phone, they dont answer your test, VM or email. these people dont value the employee only the bottom line this company wont get far for too long cause they treat people like expendable object that can be easily replaced. I dont know who this other guy is on here saying everyone else is full of it. he might be the exception to the rule or one of those brown nosing kiss-ups that bend over for the man. good luck buddy you'll get F***** soon trust me buddy.

Lack of morals
The morals of the President and CEO of this company, Glenn and Kathy Burrell, are sorely lacking. Both of these individuals are greedy and will do anything to increase the amount of profit that goes into their pockets. While it is understandable that business owners expect to make profit, the Burrell's do it at the expense of their employees. Performance based raises are rarely spoken about, let alone seen, and if you are anticipating any cost of living increase you will be disapointed. Any associated buisness cost that can be passed on to the employee will be done so as fast as it can be made into policy. There are also always questions about their billing practices and what they will try and get over on clients to make up for a deficiet (meaning their salaries) in other areas of the business.

I am currently the supervisor for sunstates in charlotte i disagree with these accusations unless they have drastically changed over the years to improve their ways to show the officers they care i strongly disagree with all the comments placed upon here. Here in Charlotte we have well trained leadership and a new captain who is eager and willing to take care and show all the officers respect and go out of his way to lend a helping hand. We as supervisors have enforced a friendly and respectful home in sunstates and keep it a positive and wonderful place to work. Our pay rates arent bad and our officers get as much overtime as they want. They are happy with the company and I hope this may give furthur insight to all of those opposed to the company before. Changes have been made and this company is now less than amazing. Thank you
Who the hell wants to work overtime to make a decent living? Another dummy.
Discrimination
I have worked with some "well known" and much larger established security companies and was working for one when SunStates outbid the contract over the company I work for. First of all let me say that in the six months that I have been employeed with the company I am with now I have never, not once called in six, never, not once been tardy for work and never been wrote up for not doing my job correctly. SunStates came in and took over the site where I worked and guess what? They decided they were not going to keep me on board with their team and let me go. Interesting point being they did keep some guards that have been wrote up several times for not doing their job correctly and guards that call in sick on a regular basis and some that are notorious tardy for work or at times have not even shown up as scheduled. When I got the news of me being released from the site I wondered why, why would they not keep me? There was only one explanation and that being that I am pregnant. I feel 100% I was discriminated against because of me being pregnant and I am not sure if they just didnt want to deal with me or thought with me taking maturnity leave with inconvience them I dont know however I do know that they are sly, very sly, they waited to the last day to tell me that I would not remain on site and wouldnt have a job with them and had no explanation of their reason. Every company has issues and has angry employees that write reviews to be vendictive but from one individual to another do your research with this company the reviews speak for theirself bascially.

Ethics of the compay
I was the site manager for 56 officers. I was excirted when I signed my contract with all those benifits attached, company issued Nextell, and treated like management by the manager of operations for the state of Tennessee.
That is where it all ended.
Glen Burrell, the owner of the security portion of Sunstates LLC, basically ruined all that was built. He refused to honor bonuses promised to the officers for starters. He then took every officer that was making more than 9.00 per hour and fired them, only to call them to reoffer their jobs at the 9.00 rate. He had the Operations manager fired over lunch, broke the contract that we agreed upon/signed. Not only did he befriend the whole front office/get rid of them, but replaced anyone that was loyal to the old office. This man has no integrity, morals, or ethics.
In short, even those desperate for a job should truely seek employment somewhere else. This company will double charge you for uniforms, then not give you your money. When all was said and done I was owed over 7, 600 dollars, which I never received.

Treatment of employees
I was an employee of Sunstates Security LLC based out of Raleigh NC. I was hired by the owner of this company as an Operational Support Manager. The owner promised me benefits including Major Medical Insurance, Pay Raises, and 401k Retirement. He did start me with Major Medical Insurance but after a few months I was told that he he was not going to pay for...

I was recently offered a job by this company at a specified rate of pay with certain benefits agreed upon. Within twenty four hours the company renegged on their agreement and then insulted me by asking me to take the position at less than what they had offered me. This company apparently has no integrity and I would not recommend hiring them or working for them.
I was a site supervisor in charge of over 50 officers. not only did I get my pay cut, vacation denied, insurance not paid as agreed, but was being plotted against by the owner of the company. he then had the nerve to send me a letter to questionj my integrity and discarded my military service in the usmc. do not fret however, his days as a security company and his time in the us as a british citizen are about to come to an end. he has pissed on the wrong people and his lack of morals and fortitude has cost him more than he will ever know.
