Tires Plus Total Car Care Horrible service

I dropped off my van at Tires Plus in Warminster PA on Sunday, with an appointment for an inspection and oil change. They told me that the equipment for testing emissions was down, and so it might take longer than normal. I called at the end of the day, and they said the equipment was still down but it would be fixed first thing the next morning. Monday came and they called to tell me that the equipment was STILL not working and it would take until the end of the day. They finally got the inspection done, and told me I needed a full set of tires and a new brake light to pass inspection. I agreed to buy new tires but refused to pay the ridiculous price of $15 for a tail light, and $30 for the pair. I told them I would purchase and install the new tail light myself. So I went to pick up the van, immediately installed the new bulb, went back inside to get my inspection sticker, and they said, "Sorry, you need to make an appointment for a re-inspection for us to put on the sticker." I was FURIOUS, after they held my van for two days and screwed up my whole schedule, now they are going to hold me up ever more for an appointment to check a single light bulb? I argued with them and finally got them to agree to look at the van as soon as they were done the car they were currently working on. I asked how long would that be, and the woman behind the counter said "I don't know, however long it takes." I said "why don't you just ask the technician?" She said, "It's not good to interrupt the technicians when they are working on a car, because it will delay that persons service." So wait a minute, its okay to delay MY car for two days, but you can't stop working on someone else's car for 15 seconds to look out the window and see that the brake light is fixed? I said, "I've bought four sets of tires here, and I've been a loyal customer for years, but I will never buy anything from here again.

The customer decided that they did not want to pay $15 to have one bulb changed. The company said ok and moved on to the next customer. How are they to know you're going to come change the bulb yourself and demand a reinspect on the spot? Filling out the state required paper work in itself and finishing the emissions could take 15 minutes. That's a long time for a company thats operated like Tires Plus.Tires Plus does NOT have a spotless record when it comes to customer service, but this is where the customer should be fair. It was not the company's fault the emissions machine broke (which is VERY common I might add). The customer decided to leave their car there for two days. Here again, not the company's fault. Hundreds of dollars in tires, 2 and a half days in the garage, and the customer balks at a $30 dollar repair? According to the date stamp on the complaint I would deduce that the customers inspection was due at the end of November and the customer waited until the last minute, thus the reason they left their vehicle for two days, they couldn't drive it when it was out of inspection. If that's the case, than that, too, is not the company's fault. Common sense would say just get it done and get stickers on it.

Tires Plus Total Car Care Total lie

I purchased 2 tires from Tires Plus. A week later, on my way home, one of the tires exploded. Fortunately, I was only going 15 miles/hr when the event occured. This could have happened someplace more dangerous such as on the highway so I am glad that it did not. However, when I contacted Tires Plus about the incident, they told me that they would tow my car at MY expense and check out the tire. Then they told me that it was my fault that the tire exploded because I must have hit a curb or something. I know that I did not hit anything. The tire was just poor quality. I demanded a refund, but they refused to give it to me. They said that I should have purchased their "tire insurance" Something that was never offered to me in the first place. I filed a complaint with the BBB. A manager replied back to the BBB stated that the tire that exploded was not one that I purchased from Tires Plus. That was a total lie, and I still had the tire as proof. The matter remains unresolved, but I just wanted to get the word out that if you got to Tires Plus, you could be spending over $100 on a tire, that you will have to replace in a week.

Tires Plus is notorious for terrible customer service at the store level, a simple call to the corporation will probably resolve this matter. If the incident happened within a week of having them installed then this should be covered under their platinum pact warranty. The road hazard warranty is an add-on that is sold at the time of purchase. it's designed to net the company more money at the time of service with the gamble that you wont return for the warranty or flat repair. If you don;t buy it then they try to get out of taking care of the customer by saying "well, you didn't buy the warranty". Do know, that irregardless of the tire, Tires Plus did not manufacture it. Therefore, if Tires Plus refuses to help you and the corporation will not help you then your next move would be to make a complaint to the actual manufacturer of the tire (whoever that may be). It's highly unusual for a tire to just blow out for no apparent reason.

Tires Plus Total Car Care Awful, awful, awful

If you want to get a dent in your car while your getting your tires changed, then Tires Plus is the place for you.

I dropped my car off to get snow tires put on & received a call from the company that my car had been involved in an "accident" with another car in the parking lot. After getting insurance info. from the driver of the other vehicle, the Tires Plus manager refused to give me the company's insurance policy/information. They also told me my tire change wouldn't be ready for another hour or so. At this point they had already had my car for 5 hours! Once I finally got the call to get my car, my vehicle had been with the company for 8 hours and one accident.

I received no apology and no compensation for my ordeal. If that wasn't bad enough, they have done nothing to help me sort out anything with the insurance companies and refuse to answer our emails, phone calls, and letters about the accident. Now I can't even get my car fixed b/c there is a "pending liability" issue - in which my insurance company had found tires plus at fault but they refuse to answer phone calls. Now I'm being held responsible for a accident that the tire's plus employee was involved in. I know... how is that even possible?! I wasn't even there. I urge you not to take your vehicle there.

This would be the time for your insurance company to get those high powered lawyers that you pay for every month involved. Tires plus should have given you their insurance info, but it's a moot point because your insurance company could get it too.

Tires Plus Total Car Care Don't do business with them

I see a trend in the complaints. I bought tires at the Gwinnett, Georgia store. I was quoted one price and when the work was finished the price went up (no product or work change). When I arrived I was then asked to give an immediate deposit so that they could go get the tires. No inventory may mean they are financially unstable.

I also experienced the advice that additional work was needed (rather costly work) only to find by second opinion that it was not needed.

This is not a business you can trust or rely on at all.

It's not uncommon for corporate tire shops to have to transfer tires from another store, but asking for a deposit is not commonplace unless the tires are a special order that cannot be gotten any other way. The price going up is very common with this company, as they only quote your for the work in question, rather than the whole bill. The add-on sales are also out of control and they will scour your car to try to find anything they can sell you, and this comes straight fromt the top level management, who pressures the store level employees to do this. Tech's get paid partially on commission, and to make even a decent paycheck they have to sell alot of service. If you think that this is not how an automotive shop should be run, YOU ARE ABSOLUTELY RIGHT.

Tires Plus Total Car Care Over price

We went to Tires Plus to have a belt put back on - the belt is new this year. They charged over $50 (for 10 minutes of work) to put on the belt . They claimed we needed a new one. The same company said that our other vehicle needed over $600 in repairs . Turned out we needed less than $300 in repairs.

Tires Plus in Springfield OVERCHARGES its customers. I requested a refund when the belt came off a week later. The manger declined.

What a rip off!

We only went there since we needed service on a sunday. Say away from this place!

Many people agree that they overcharge, but its hard to overcharge for flat rate labor. Tires Plus charges labor based on a given labor rate quoted from a third party source, such as Chilton or Mitchell. If the source quotesa job to take 30 minutes (that is, 0.5 hours) then the shop multiplies its labor rate by that number. So if the installation of this belt is quoted at a half an hour, and the shops labor rate is $100 an hour (which is a little higher than average), then the labor charge would be $50 plus tax. It's a flat rate. The customer pays $50 whether the work takes 10 minute or two hours. If a shop were to discount a job because it was done quickly, then along the same lines they should be able to charge more when it takes longer. In such an instance, where is the incentive to get work done quickly then? Thus, one of the reasons for flat rate. It's a safety for both the customer (so they dont agree to one price then when the job takes longer are forced to pay more) and the mechanic (because they get paid a fair rate to do a job and have incentive to get it done and move on to the next job). Most people don't complain about how quickly a service is done. The BIGGER issue in this case, is why does this belt keep coming off? If you are having an ongoing problem with a belt flying off then you have another issue, and on top of that if the belt came off it could have been damaged in the process. Maybe the shop is right and you DO need a new belt. A customer can always ask to see the part in question. Hope this helps!

Tires Plus Total Car Care Fuse

This actually happened a while ago, but I thought I should warn other college students. When I was a sophomore at UGA, I blew a fuse in my dash board. Even though I am a girl, I am not an idiot when it comes to cars. My dad told me to take the car to Tires Plus to get them to put in a new fuse for me and get some other minor things taken care of (oil change and tire rotation). So I took my car to the TiresPlus on College Station. After a couple of hours, they told me the reason my dash lights did not work because the entire electircal routing in my car was bad and they were going to have to replace everything electrical, which was going to cost me about 800 dollars an hour for a few hours. They also told me they replaced all the fuses in my car just to be sure.

So, after listening to that line of bull, I got out of there. I didn't get any work done on my car that day.

The next morning, I went and bought a fuse at a local store for like 3-4 dollars and changed it myself. That was about 3 years ago and my car works fine. No other auto places have found anything wrong with the "electrical routing" sense then either.

The TiresPlus on College Station in Athens is looking to make easy money on any ignorant college girl with "daddy's credit card."

Tires Plus is extremely profit-driven, especially since they pay their techs with commission and their managers have to meet monthly quotas in order to get bonuses. This kind of management and pay scale could promote dishonestly in any shop. I would question what exactly they found that made them think that such numerous repairs needed to be made. Knowledge, however, is definately power when it comes to cars. Knowing how to replace fuses and why they go bad is something anyone with a car should know the basics of, and in this case it seems to have saved this lady alot of money. Though the diagnostic still sits in my mind, it never hurts to get a second opinion. Finding a shop one can trust, though, that's the next thing. Hope this helps!

Typically worn plugs do not cause a SUDDEN rough running issue. If that's what happened I would question the diagnosis of plugs entirely. In a case like this it helps to have knowledge of what used plug looks like, and what an OLD plug looks like. They should look very different. When you have the service done the second time, ask for your old plugs back, and purchase an extra new one to keep with you as well.Take the originals and your spare back to the shop you had it originally done at and state your case. Also bring with you the estimate of what the second mechanic found. If it won't work at the store level contact the corporation by phone AND in writing, incuding with your letter pictures of the old plugs and the new one laid out together. Also include a COPY of the second shop's estimate. Usually a phone call will take care of your issue, though. In the future, for anyone having plugs done, I woulld definately ask for your old plugs back. They should all be practically identical in model and manufacture, though appearances may vary some due to engine issues, wear, and plug position in the engine. Good luck!

Tires Plus Total Car Care Indicating a problem when no problem exists

Brought the vehicle in for 2 new tires and a alignment. Service writer came back and indicated that I had a bad tie rod and bushing that needed to be replaced prior to an alignment. The alignment would be worthless if these items were not corrected first. Total cost $488.00 . Had a personal friend look at the vehicle and said there is no reason to replace the tie rod, atleast not right now. The service writer also indicated that my air filter was bad and needed to be replaced-why I dont know, I didnt ask for this service, he had no reason to look under my hood. The cost to replace an air filter $39.00. The real filter was replaced less than 4 months ago and actually takes some work to get at. Okay, I know everyone is starving and we all want to make more money but this gentleman lied point blank to me and indicated "there are 2 filters, one to clean the air in your car and one for the engine."

This reminds me of 7 years ago when I went to the west side Tired Plus to get new tires- this gentleman indicated that my brakes were bad-were they? No I brought it to another dealer and they told me I had another year of use out of them. These people that work for tires plus are crooks, should not be trusted and should be put out of business.

OK. I hate Tires Plus too, but depending on the year and model of your car, this "there are 2 filters, one to clean the air in your car and one for the engine." is a true statement...

Tires Plus Total Car Care Awful experience

I bought 4 'NEW' Michelin Cross Terraine tires plus the 'warranty' for a total of $841.91 from Tires Plus June 2017. At the time I, like millions of others, was unaware that you can find out when the tire was actually made by looking at the DOT# on the tire wall which gives the week and year the tire was manufactured. The long and short of this story is that I was sold 2 tires that were already 3 years old, 2 tires there were one year in age at the same full price, and was told by 'Howard' in Jacksonville Florida (district manager) that they are allowed to sell tires up to 5 years old to consumers. The NHTSA recommends that tires be replaced that range in age of 6-10 years of age. So, you can buy tires that are already 5 years old and get only 1-5 years of actual wear if you go by the Highway Safety Administration's guidelines. They additionally recommend that it also depends upon the make, model, mileage, etc. of the tire if you can expect to get as many as 10 years. Tires Plus will only offer you the difference between what the tread wear is and the actual mileage you have on the tires towards 'new' tires (whatever the age really is you would have to check again). And so basically they offer you nothing. My car's tires had only 29K miles on them and yet the tires are 8 years old, the car is 7 years old, and I bought them 5 years ago. I asked Howard if he would (since he's in the business and knows this information) if he would knowingly buy 3 or even the 5 year old tire and not only put them on his own car but also pay FULL price (like we the consumer is forced too). His only response was to state that he could say the same thing about what I do for a living (not knowing what my career is). And to that end, I am a Realtor and in no way have I ever met a buyer who goes into a transaction knowing how old the house is that expects to pay the same for a 3-5 year old house that they would pay for a house next door that was built in 2017! I hope that everyone reads this if for no other reason than to be aware of the age of a tire at the time you're in the tire store so you can make a better decision as to whether you're going to pay the same price for a 5 year old tire that's been sitting around in a HOT warehouse or if you would rather be smarter and buy a truely NEW tire for the same price!

Arrived 20 minutes early for an appointment to change oil rotate tires, They did not take car in for 50 mins from lot behind service counter, changed oil rotated tires as requested did not inform driver the vehicle was completed.

Total time at Tires Plus 110 minutes for a 20 minute max appointment and then had to ask if it was complete.

Salesman realy not bothered about time taken, other customers are also waiting for materials that had to be brought from other locations believe it or not they also had appointments.

What is the point of making appointments? when there is poor staff to follow through.

Store # 268539 Herndon, VA

I had an appointment at 10:30 am for the oil change and tire replacement, and arrived there on time. I said I be back in two hours since I thought that two hours are enough for the service. When I get back at 12:30 pm, I noticed they just started taking out old tires. I waited about an hour more. When I addressed this problem, they didn't apologize, but said it's not that big deal to wait an hour, and the appointment doesn't mean anything to them. When I presented "On time gurantee" on the back of the invoice, they read it as if not knowing it. I got 10% discount for the next visit, but I'll never ever go there again.

Tires Plus Total Car Care Scam - brake work

Tires plus has a $ 99.00 breake special, I was having rear shoes put on . this is what the mechanic did, he took a small screwer and pocked a hole in the rubber boot of my wheel cylinder then sprayed WD40 inside to make it look like my wheel cylinder was leaking . then call me into the back to show me my leaky wheel cylinder . He still had the screw driver in his hand . He got disgusted I would't changed it . I took the the car home pulled the hub off and cleaned the brakes and cylinder with brake cleaner . drove the car around tring to put a lot of presure on the brakes . then took the car to another garage to to have the wheel cylinder checked . the only thing the could find is where someone had pocked a hole in the rubber boot, the wheel cylinder was not leaking !

Tires Plus Total Car Care Do not care about personal

They fire store personel for not selling stuff as requested by district staff. They dont fix cars they sell what makes the agenda happy for that day. you can go in on monday and they will sell brake flushes and coolant flushes, tuesday they will sell trans svc and fuel svc and so on. And then this "tpvi" you must sell 2 or 3 or more a day plus get so many credit cards a day (known as cfna credit apps) or you will get a meeting then threaten or fired. This is not a mechanical repair shop but a scam to make the rich richer in the corporate world of Tires plus, they do not care about the customer at all.

This is absolutely true in so many ways. This company is terrible. What this complaint alleges is very true and has been done many times. This terrible form of management trickles down to the store level where store employees are forced to try and sell every little possible thing they can on each vehicle that comes in, and on top of that sell you one of their credit cards. If they don't perform nearly impossible feats they are degraded, forced to attend remedial meetings, written up or fired to be made an example of. As the upper management has said MANY times on it's emails: SELL SELL SELL! If you are considering employement with this company I would say STAY away! They promise you trips and management opportunites to get you in the door because they need more people in the shop to cover those who they fire or who quit outright. During hurricane Sandy this company forced all of it's employees in the affected regions to work in the storm, and even told them to call previous customers to try to get them to come in for service. Called it a "Hurricane sale". Threatened employees who wanted to go home to make sure their families were safe. Employees are told during snow storms that they WILL show up and work whatever hours are needed to sell tires, irregardless of the conditions. Management has no consideration for employee safety in such matters. Company has an extremely high turn-over rate due to management. STAY AWAY!

Tires Plus Total Car Care Pissed

I had an alternator put on my son's car in May. In June, it stopped working again, so they did replace it. Well it stopped working again in July and they refuse to make it good. I paid $350 for this work and I am so pissed I don't know what to do. I don't have the money to go pay someone else to do the same work that Tires Plus did such a crappy job on. Does anyone have any ideas as to what I can do to get them to make this right. I would appreciate any help anyone could give.

In a case like this, when a customer will not get satisfaction at the store level, they then should work their way up the corporate chain until something gets done. If that won;t work, the only other option I know of is a civil remedy. Good luck in the future!

I took my BMW to Wheel Work at 1499 Franklin St. San Francisco for 2 new rear tires. They charged me $1, 060.84. When I got home I was going to take a look at my 2 new tires according the numbers on the invoice. I only found 1 new tire. I went back to the store next day and asked them to show me the 2nd new tire. They could not. They said that they made a communication mistake at the store. I receive no apologies from them. I spent another 3 hours at waiting room for the installation of my 2nd new tire. They cheat and lie. Do not go near them.

Tires Plus Total Car Care Total car care... Not so much

Long story short... a good female friend of mine had a 2000 Mountaineer with a 5.0 V8. Had a misfire caused by a bad coil so I came and helped her get the vehicle to TP as they were the closest place that was still open. The next morning they called to say all was well so she arranged to have a friend come pick her (+son) up so she could get her car. She paid $220 and left thinking all was well. Went to drive away and it misfired just as before so she went back. The store told her she needed a tune-up consisting of plugs and wires... in total the repair cost ballooned to $615. (Insanity!) To make matters worse, the "ASE Master Mechanic" installed the #2 plug wire directly ON the hot exhaust manifold. Who does this? I noticed this a few days later and rerouted and taped up the damaged wire. Contacted TP corp to complain as their "repair" cost $615 and lasted just over a week before her car needed attention at another TP location while she was 130 miles from home visiting friends. I requested a partial refund as this was a horrible experience for my friend (not to mention myself) but after bouncing numerous email with someone at TP corporate the store manager finally called me and offered only a few free oil changes. For the record, the exact same spark plug that costs $3.33 RETAIL will cost you $9 at TP. When you charge premium prices you should deliver premium service and not botch a simple job in such a blatant fashion. High school auto shop kids know better than to have ignition wires ON exhaust manifolds unshielded.

I have since emailed TP corporate asking to be put in touch with the store owner as their free oil change offer was nothing short of insulting, but that request was ignored.

They may be ok for Tires, but I would never ever trust them with basic car care again, especially since they don't appear to want to keep customers happy when something goes wrong. I've worked in this industry and know it goes a LONG way to own up to your mistakes and sometimes offer a refund to make right with your customers. This store does have friendly staff so they will smile and be polite as you pay twice the retail price for the parts they install. If they screw up you'll be offered a few free oil changes and be informed "that is why we offer the warranty" (so another store can fix their mistakes?)

I will never ever set foot in another Tires Plus store after this experience.

Common thing with this company. They move the nonpaying work back to attend to the big tickets.

My husband and I have been taking both of our cars to our local Tires Plus for a few years now because they're close and open on Sundays, which is very convenient. We took our 2000 Chevy Malibu for a routine oil change in early August. They also recommended a coolant system flush, and we went along with it. However, the next day my low coolant light came on...
