University of Phoenix [UOPX] review: not returning disbursed funds 17

The financial aid counselors do not do their jobs. they don't counsel at all. you have to run after them and send emails that they don't respond to unless you call over their heads. I lost my refund because I dropped a class. I could handle that but the problem was that the funds were disbursed to the school in september. I dropped the class in october. all of this happened without my knowledge until I called to find out why I didn't get my refund. they don't even know if I signed my fasfa for the year. they kept sending me correspondence stating that I hadn't when in fact my fasfa was fully processed in august. I forwarded the confirmation from fasfa to prove that this was taking care of since then...3 times. they never apologized for the mishap. now I have to wait another month for them look over my paperwork and then disburse my funds.

Your story is not the only one. I've placed my story below in case no one sees it anywhere else. This University needs to learn their lesson by hitting them right where it hurts the most and that's in the wallet because that's all they seemed to care about when I was there. Every student was a number. No personalization, no honesty and no organization. Then, they took my money and never returned it. They messed up a couple of my classes, told me they would pay me $2, 243.00 and/or credit my account and never did. Further, they placed a collection for same on all three credit reporting agencies which isn't helping matters much. Well, anyway, I'm not going to waste space here. There seems to be enough folks telling all of their HORROR stories like mine and like yours of deciet and using the students like they were just numbers.

I was a student at the UOP, and attended class for 2 days, afterward I tried to withdraw and after many calls to the school and advisors I was told I would have to wait 29 days to withdraw. I sent a letter of withdrawl to the school and they responded with telling me every thing would be taken care of, but after about a month I received a letter saying I owed the lenders their money back for my loans and that I had to get the money from my school. I called and called the school with no luck until I got one of the lenders to contact the school and the school told me again every thing would be taken care of. I then started another college and they said I still owed money on my fasfa. After one quarter at the new school I find out that I'm still enrolled at UOP and that they took my Pell money and when I spoke to someone at the school they said that's their money and I'll have to take that up with the lenders. My information on UOP websites continue to change and I have documented it all but now I owe all of the money back when the school took it and will not return it. Now I can't continue my education at my new school because my fasfa says I have an outstanding balance and will not disburse funds until this is paid, when it's not even due for another 2 months and my new school says I have to have this fixed in 2 days ... Someone please help because I'm running out of time What do I do?

I don't know what to do either. My husband was just about to start the state college when a friend referred him to UofP and he changed at the last minute. They said the pell grant money was on the way in 3-5 days and he got full financial aid and student loan. He was doing everything right, attending and posting in the classes every time he was supposed to. He even saved the pages to show he was there because I insisted. Now the money hasn't shown up and he is being autodropped from 1 class for not showing up for a week when we have proof he was there and his posts are still up. He was so sure this was a good idea and literally on the last day possible for him to transfer his financial aid is when he did it, they were in such a hurry to get it done before the end of that day. All I think is that he could be taking classes at the University in the next town and it would all have been ok, now I am scared that we have been duped and that they will prevent him from even being able to transfer in the spring. I don't know what to do or who to contact. I'm so distraught and I'm 6 months pregnant. I feel worried that they have ruined his chance at a degree. I am currently a student at the UOP. I started in May 09, I recieved my first disbursements after my first week of class. I have recently started my third block of classes, and it is now time for my second disbursement. I have a new financial advisor, and he has taken his sweet time about submitting my paperwork. I have just learned of other students having problems with the UOP as well. I need to know who to contact regarding this matter. I keep talking to the financial advisor, and he only tells me what he thinks I want to hear. Good luck Brandy. I received my first disbursement in December, my second in March. When my financial aid came through in July I received nothing. My financial advisor said my disbursement had been set to an 18/6 credit split. They kept money for 18 credits. Supposedly when February gets here I will only have to pay for 6 credits so will have a larger disbursement, but I am not holding my breath. I was told the financial aid provider required this credit split. I believe it was the school that did it.

I am currently enrolled in UOP. I started on 9/09 and classes end on 11/09. I recieved a financial aid letter saying how my money was distributed for classes, and a month an half later, I recieved another letter from one of the lenders and how much they were going to distribute to me. I am not to keene on the idea that the school is taking my money, but going into my account, I see nothing that has been done. Where's the money going? I havent recieved a dime. I want to withdraw from the school and take classes at another University, but from what I am reading it is scarey. I will be going into my 7th week and it is 2 more weeks to go, then I am thinking about withdrawing. Anyone have any suggestions? Will I have to pay back any loans, since I wil not be back in the spring?

Can I drop my classes by myself, or does a counselor have to do it? I see no place on their website for the student to drop themselves.

I think that the us department of education needs to be made aware of this. I am shocked!.. my husband almost attended this school. I remember they called constantly to recruit him, I felt something was not right about uop. thank god he declined them! I have two friends with similar stories. I am going to personally see what can be done. this is crazy!

I am having a problem with getting my pell grant money, the university of phoenix was quick to pay my tuition with the loan that I have to pay interest on but they are not giving students the free money due to them. I have been told so many different things in the last two months that iam confused as to if I will get my [protected] pell grant. can someone direct me as to what I need to do to retify this situation. I have taken on extra bills in order to attend and i'm on afixed income, if I quit then I still have no degree and the loan money will then need to be paid heeeeeelp! I was told I would get it at the end of september then I was told it would take 60-90 days.

What you need to do about you pell grant is get in touch with the school Associate Director of Finances. This is the superisor over your finacial advisor. He should take care of your problem and if he want to give you the funny business, trust me when you ask to speak to the Dean about your problem, they will break their neck to solve your problem.

The university of Phoenix is whack I wanna transfer so bad, I hate the way they handle the disbursements checks you gotta go through this long process. They make sure they receive their funds but when it comes to you it's a problem. IT's pissing me off so bad

I have been having so many issues with them regarding inaccurate information given by Academic advisors. I have emails instructing me on completing additional classes to insure my graduation date after paying for them and completing them I then get told I have maxed out my transfer credits. I’m requesting to get payment for my time and emotionally stressing me out with the information after I completed the course. I also have been waiting on my financial aid to be disbursed. I have not even seen my award amount and after reading these reviews I’m sure they are doing something else with my money. This school has some horrible people working for them. I’m seeking legal help asap!
