I was accepted into the orientation program at US Xpress. I quit my job, that is how confident that I would be hired by US Xpress. They paid for my bus fare from NJ to Ohio, a very miserable Greyhound bus ride. I arrived at the Medway, OH terminal on Tuesday, to start Orientation on Wednesday. Wednesday comprised of passing their physical, which included lifting 48 pounds over my head, I passed the drug test, and road test. I then started in-classroom training, which is a three day program.

In the midst of my third and final day of in-classroom training, I was given a little note, with the number #4225 to call. It was Human Resources. I called that number and was told, 'You do not meet our criteria, we will not be accepting you into US Xpress'. When I asked about my return bus fare home, I was told, 'It is in your 'driver package', US Xpress is not responsible for your return fare home'. Well, you don't GET THE DRIVER PACKAGE UNTIL AFTER YOU ARRIVE AT US XPRESS!

So, basically, I was stranded out in Medway, Ohio. Thank God I had enough $$$ left on a credit card to pay my bus fare home. Otherwise, I would have had to hitchhike, and for a woman, that is a very dangerous situation to be put in. If I were forced to hitchhike home to NJ, it could have had disastrous results, IE: Raped, murdered, arressted for hitchhiking, etc.

I was SO excited about the possibility of driving for US Xpress. Now, I know differently. What they did to me was immoral, unconscionable. That they could do that to another human being, and a middle aged lady like me, is beyond my comprehension. My brain is still reeling, and now, I am unemployed, and may not be able to collect unemployment since I quit my former job.

BEWARE OF US XPRESS!

First of all, Mr. Mac needs to learn how to write, I did not understand a word he is saying, now Annabelle, I am very sorry about what happened to you I was planning on putting an application for US Express, but now I have second thoughts. The way they work with you is deplorable I cannot believe they did that to you, I just hope this is an isolated incident. Good luck finding a new job.

You should have been cleared for employment before you left New Jersey - telling you to leave on your third day of orientation is a waste of time and money to all parties concerned.

They look like a reputable company, but I can tell by their pay scale they're another bunch of cheap freight delivering corporate ###. There is so much bull out here in the trucking industry - sorry you had to get burned.

Dr M A Carnavoro can be easily read - so long as the first and last letters are correct, or the word contains the correct letters out of order - it's a reading experiment !

Blair.

I know this is a very old post, but FYI for Mr. Mac and others considering this opportunity: They require the person to quit there previous employer or they will not be accepted to orientation, which makes it worse. It's actually posted on their site now.

It is also posted on their website that if you lie, exclude pertinent information or have accidents / felonies you don't tell them about or you left a job by being fired but said you quit you can be excluded from employment.
They also let you know that they pay to get you to the terminal but it is up to you to get a way home if you don't leave orientation in a truck assigned to you under a load. This is standard for all Trucking companies and because you cost them money if you lie to them about past job history, criminal record or accidents, tickets etc. So it was not US fault that they couldn't hire her and it took three days because they can't pull a background report till you get there and it takes time for it to come back.

I would not go to us xpress, if you have any other option. Same with swift enterprisses. The lowest [censor] of the [censor] pole. My heart goes out to you drivers who have no choice.

As a former- and I emphasize former- employee of US Xpress, I highly recommend that if you have any other options, do not attempt to gain employment with these people. I worked for them for about 5 months and fought every week to get paid for the work I did. The final straw was when I was placed on a Coca-Cola dedicated and because of "an accounting dispute with Coca-Cola", I received no pay for 2 weeks. They could have and should have paid the guarantee but refused to. Also, I was working a 7 on 3 off rotation and when it was time for me to go home, they kepted me out for 1 or 2 additional days and expected me to return to work without the 3 day off promise. And lastly, I doubt that the individual posting earlier is actually a doctor, unless he writes everything in prescription format. STAY AWAY FROM US XPRESS!

They are the worst! What they put my poor husband thru is a sin! Besides never getting the correct mileage, wrong addresses, wrong city, wrong roads, wrong pick up times and drop off times, not paying him back for things he put in the truck mechanically, oil, window washing, etc., they had him down for 5 days for a broken turn signal, 5 days! No one could figure out that it was something to do with the computer systems! 4 days for an oil change, you name it. The last straw is when he needed 3 days off to get skin CANCER removed and they were pissed, so he got waited until his pay was deposited, dropped his POS truck off in Shippensburg and quit! The worst company ever!

My Husband was also asked to leave on his third day, because he could not verify employment with a company that went out of business almost ten years ago! We have 2 children and bills that need to be paid. He has stuck his neck out there for the sake of his family and now he is stuck out in georgia with no money and no way home. I had to beg both of our families for money to get him home. He had his doubts from reading some of the truckers forums, but i assured him that it could not be true. Well i was wrong, he was wrong and what US Xpress has done to him and our family is wrong. Before anyone decides to go with this company ask yourself and the recruiter what happens "if".

I was sent out the week before last for orientation also. I was told I had the job and would get a northeast regional position home on the weekends. I would make $58 a day orientation and they would reimburse $119 of my gas money if I show receipts since I decided to drive instead of ride on a bus for 15 hours. I got there and of 17 of us only 3 were given trucks at 5:00 on Friday. We all had to set thru orientation and did not get paid because they said you dont get paid unless your hired. I have the email stating I was hired if I was sent to PA as long as a passed drug test and physical which I did. They made me sit all weekend in the hotel and Monday also ; they were finding one thing after another so I wouldnt be hired. Finally on Monday afternoon they found a job on my tax forms that I only made $400 with(so obviously didnt work there long) and I could not verify the name of the company so they sent me home. I had to pay for food for 6 days, my gas there and didnt get paid for orientation and of course I am not jobless because I did quit my other trucking job because I was told I had the job. Not to mention when I got there I was told on Thursday of the orientation I wouldnt get the northeast regional weekends off. They thought I lived somewhere else and their map didnt go down where I lived(though I gave them my zip code and was reassured) I actually have the email with all this info including the promised northeast regional. What do you do though. Now Im sitting here with a 35 week pregnant wife and 6 year old daughter, 3 weeks with no check and still stunned a company could be so cruel!

I have worked for us express for 6 mos, and I can tell you all they are all a bunch of liars, cheats, thieves!
I have looked into other companies, and they have their problems as well. If you can avoid it get a job at home not in trucking.
especially if you have a family. The lies, deception, hometime, pay is not worth it. Your health suffers, you gain weight, it is unhealthy
unsafe, and you get treated like dirt from the company you work for, the shippers, receivers. It is a dirty industry period!
the money sounds good until you realize how much of it you reinvest into yourself for being on the road.
The best place I feel like a professional is in a truck stop at the restaurant where they have seating that says professional driver.
If you think I am lying, look at the turn over rate in this industry. Do you think you are special to get this job, your not.
Why do you think they all have sign on bonuses? They know that they are going to loose 75% of all their drivers sooner or later.
You are a number, not a person to them. I am trying to find a regular job that works 8 hrs a day, not 24hrs a day, and all the trucking industry crap. I suggest you do the same

I too was accepted into the US Express training program. I was all excited because this was my first job out of school. They paint a real good picture about making US Express the best trucking company in the world. I NEEDED this job, not only for myself, but my family as well. US Express, WHAT A JOKE! They sent me home after my FIRST day of training. Could I drive a truck? No problem. Did I have a problem with any of the other recruits at the training center? Absolutely not. Great bunch of guys. Made some nice friends in my brief stay in Shippensburg, PA. Did I have an issue with any of the training staff? No, nice people. What I did have a problem with is that I wasn't able to WALK LIKE A DUCK, at least I couldn't according to US Express and their crack team of professional duck walking medical staff. What they didn't tell me during any part of the recruiting process was that I would be REQUIRED to walk like a duck. Failing to do so would result in my IMMEDIATE rejection from the training program and sent packing! What does walking like a duck have ANYTHING to do with driving a truck!? Apparently EVERYTHING according to US Express! I am a big man. 6'1 and over 250lbs. The duck walk consisted of a steele platform 3 to 4 feet off the ground. You had to squat down, tuck your chin to your chest, and duck walk through the 2 1/2 long tunnel, turn around and come back out. Sounds easy huh? You have 2 chances. I guess I was lucky. The nurse with an attitude gave me 3. BIG DEAL! You are not allowed with any part of your body to touch any part of the steele platform. My back GRAZED underneath the platform. Did the walk, but grazed the platform. How fair is that!? They watched me like a hawk to make sure NO PART OF ME WHATSOEVER touched. I was so disappointed. The next time I hear the name US EXPRESS and anyone's thoughts about applying I will GREATLY discourage them. US EXPRESS, THIS IS A TRUCKING COMPANY, NOT THE US ARMY! If this is how you treat new recruits I can't see you succeeding in the trucking industry. US EXPRESS, WHAT A JOKE!

I fullyl agree. US express is a shady company, at best.
A day into orientation I was sent out to. "road test" with a racist black man. He had only been wuth US Express 18 months, yet Mrs. Beard says he is "certified". Needless to say the racist black man lied about my driving, claiming I ran red lights, stop signs etc. Yet I have never, ever done such a thing, having never had a single traffic ticket in my 30 years of active driving. I strongly recommend no one joins thus very corrupt company.

I feel for you Anna belle the same thing happen to me. I gave up my apartment to go work for Prime. I had prior experience driving truck but did not have a license. I went thru there orientation, and then a trainer picked me up. The guy had no idea what he was doing, In the 7 days I was on the truck with him he didn't teach me anything, and all he talked about was quitting prime because he ran the truck out of fuel with a student and they .took a thousand dollars out of his paycheck . He left me stranded for two days at another terminal, without telling me if or when he was returning. I returned to their main headquarters and he told me he was done training, and I had to find another trainer. So I checked back into their hotel and found out the next day, I was supposed to go and talk with this fleet manager STEVE. The next day, I found another trainer, who said he would help me finish my training. The next day I went to Talk to this Steve Guy and he asked me how my seven days went. I was 100 percent honest with him about the trainer and what happened, and he looked at me with a smile and said I don't think your prime material, then told me, I could not finish my training with the other trainer. The next day I was thrown out of The Hotel with no bus ticket and 3 dollars in pocket, I stayed in the woods for two days with the homeless-junkies. The second night my bag got stolen with all my clothes and belongings. I forgot I had checks in my bag and eight months later, I got a letter from the district attorneys office telling me, I had wrote bad checks in Springfield. Shame on you Steve, god with judge you, and I believe in karma. So Annabelle you see we are all just numbers to these big wig outfits.
