On January 16, 2023, I visited Orielly store located at 2027 El Camino Real, Santa Clara, CA 95050, [protected], to purchase air freshener for my vehicle. I was approached by Assistant Manager Mickey (hereinafter Mickey). She helped me and recommend air freshener. After obtaining an air freshener, I continued shopping. I heard a very LOUD voice. It was the GM. He was speaking to Mickey. The GM was speaking loud enough that the entire store and the customers could hear EVERYTHING the GM was talking to Mickey about.
The GM asked Mickey why she was working since it was not scheduled to work. MICKEY told the GM, she was covering because her Store Manager called in and the other Assistant Manager could not go in either. Mickey asked the GM if he heard what happened? GM replied, “No. Why what happened?” Mickey told the GM that the night before, January 15, 2023, the other Assistant Manager and Mickey had a verbal altercation. The other Assistant Manager, got enraged, picked up a squeegee from the floor, broke it and proceeded to strike Mickey. The GM never once took Mickey away from the floor to talk in private.
Further, the store manager was contacted immediately after the incident at 9:00pm the day the abuse occurred. He went to the store, took witness statements. The other assistant manager was not terminated.
As a concerned patron of O’Reilly’s, I was appalled by the actions of this incident, the store manager’s lack of compassion or care of what was going on in his store, and the lack of knowledge of the GM to have the common courtesy of the employee who experienced the assault by not taking her to a private location to discuss the issue at hand. In addition to not taking action against the offender immediately so Mickey was not in further immediate danger.
Assistant Manager Mickey was nothing but professional.
Desired outcome: GM and Store Manager be reprimanded for not following store procedures. The other Assistant Manager be immediately terminated.GM and Store Manger give written apology for not handling the problem professionally.
