I came with my husband and another couple to AMC 16, located at 7101 Democracy Blvd., Bethesda, MD 20817 to see the movie Sound of Freedom at 9:15pm on July 21, 2023. We were running late for the movie so we bought the tickets in machines outside the theater and rushed to the theater #4. When we arrived, the movie had not started, so I went to get pop corn and nachos. We also wanted an alcoholic beverage so I went to the bar and requested 2 truly and 2 Stella. Rob (the bartender) said I could not get 4 drinks with one ID, I could only get 2. Plus, he didn’t have Stellas, so I requested a Guinness and a Sam Adams. Although, I was not happy because we were late for the movie, I texted my husband and he ran out. He took both, truly and I stayed behind to pay for everything. Although Rob was not courteous to me and seemed he was more interested in other customers, he brought the little machine so I could scan the credit card and left to take care of another customer. Swiped my credit card and then inserted it because it has a chip. I waited and it was taking a long time for the credit card to go through. When it finally went thru, I took my credit card and left. I started watching the movie and when our pop corn finished, I went out to get some more. When I was near the door, manager Mike Banks stopped and said he was looking for me. Confused, I asked why? He said because you didn’t pay your drinks. Surprised because he accused me. I said, how do you know it’s me. And he said, we have you on footage. I felt that he was accusing me so I said, let me get my pop corn and I will come back and get my credit card. He said, this is unfortunately and grabbed his phone to call someone. I was in shocked and went to get my purse inside the theater and came out wondering why would someone accused me of something when I paid. He continued to say, we have you in footage. I told him this would not stay like this, I was missing my movie, etc. I showed up at the bar and told Rob that I paid, and then he attached me too. I inserted my card again and it took a long time and then was declined. I was in shock! I tried another card. And it went through. Meanwhile, the manager and the bartender, discriminated me and accused me of not paying my bill. This all happened in front of all the customers near the bar and going into the theater. I came back to my seat to write this long message. I will doubt I will return to AMC, but most of all, maybe you should make sure you do more training in how your managers take care of difficult situations. I have no problem with paying something that didn’t go, though. However, it’s very unfortunate that such a big company can’t train managers to be better than this.
