WebComics - Webtoon, Manga The idea is great but

I personally love the Webcomics app, except for the updates that I greatly dislike but do understand the purpose of. The format, the quality, and the diversity of the comics are to be applauded, but a certain troupe brings me unease. A certain set of stories place rape and abandonment in a filter of roses, when in reality, it makes a terrible situation. As much as these stories create quite the dramatic and interesting plot, younger readers who may have less awareness can be negatively affected. Younger readers may see this the way many see celebrities: something to aim for, a goal. Much of my own goals in life were pieces together by what I experienced, what I desired, and importantly, what I read which brought me the great realization. Young readers need to know the dangers of encasing that storyline in gold, there must be a way to raise awareness that the life the main character has would be lonely, being abandoned by a man who unconsentually touched your body and left you to raise kids on your own can be devastating. In these troupes, usually what happens next is the abandonment of your family in friends, and considering the setting of these stories, in a place that’s not so accepting and conservative, it is reasonable. Abandonment shouldn’t be seen in shiny lights. I love this plot, I love the drama it brings, but I wish these stories would have a dose of reality and a way to inform younger people that this is not the life to chase. There must be a way to stop the mental influence of these stories, and maybe a little note every chapter would help. :)

WebComics - Webtoon, Manga It’s good but

All of the recent one star reviews for this app are a bit extreme, but I get where they are coming from. Most of the comics used to take coins to unlock a chapter and you can get coins daily for free. Recently I’ve seen many comics switch from coins to gems. I didn’t have a problem with this because I could just watch a 30 second ad and continue reading. I do have a problem with this now because I have seen on some comics, you don’t have any option to watch an ad instead of paying for gems. Let me say that authors definitely need more money for what they are doing and I’m glad that they recently started using a support option which is just giving coins to the author, instead of just a “thumbs up” on a chapter. But instead of getting rid of the option to watch an ad in place of gems, I think a better option is to anyone who can’t spend money on gems, is to just have multiple short ads that would equal the amount of money gems would pay the author. I’m just assuming that the 30 second ad didn’t pay the author the same amount as gems do, so sorry if I’m wrong because that’s the only reason besides people don’t want to watch ads that I can come up with for why you can’t watch ads instead of using gems. I don’t get what people’s problems are with SHORT ads but I still want to read these comics while supporting the author by watching ads. Besides that, I love everything else about the app, so the one star reviews are unnecessary and way to harsh. Please consider the ads equivalent to gems idea and sorry if it didn’t make much sense, it is hard to put into words.

WebComics - Webtoon, Manga To have a paid system, it needs to make sense

So I did start on this app when the comics were free and as they transitioned into the coin and gem system. The problem I have is that there seems to be no rhyme or reason as to what defines the practice of making things available to be coin bought or to be gem only. The coin prices are different pending on the comic and there is nothing defining the line there. I’ve seen that there has been argument of artist pay but then why would that make the pricing different? Does that mean some artists are being prioritized over others? And if you have a currency that can be “bought” by the user watching ads, that should then compensate for the profit that would be lost by people not purchasing the comic by chapter. In which case they should have a flat rate across the board? It makes me question the legitimacy of the artist contracts to have these rates per comic that don’t make sense. I’ve seen in the comics responses that the artists are the ones who dictate those rates but I have found the same comics on different apps that do not have these inconsistent prices. I am all for paying artists but there has to be some kind of sense to it. Rates vary in printed versions because there are variations in the quality of items used: paper, pages, etc. But that doesn’t make as much sense for an online only product.

My other issue is a lot of the comics translated end up with westernized and out of place names which throw me completely off. There is no standardized way things are being translated and it feels like trying to localize a part of the story that really didn’t need it.

WebComics - Webtoon, Manga No longer will support

Originally when I first used the webcomic app it was amazing to be able to read comics without much restrictions and constantly updated, but it changed early that a year where coins became obsolete, creators dropping their story out of the blue, comics becoming gem locked after even 50+ chapters. I remember the time it first started happening and people where confused and started commenting on previous chapters wondering what was going on.

Don’t get me wrong I buy my own manga/manhwa but for some reason aside for one particular story I haven’t brung myself to support webcomics any longer. There is no transparency on what changes the app going through until they post them the day of. Members used to be able to read any comic for free long as they paid for the membership but that’s no longer the case, instead you are given few gems and coins. Oh yeah guess what? Coins now expire in 30 days, and old coins before the new change last 90 days...rip to my 52k coins I had.

There are so many other manga reading apps out there line, tapas, etc try those instead.

Also I understand that comics are not free, I’m an artist my self so I know and understand. I’m just saying to either keep the comic with a set price to began with instead of switching from free to paid that’s a big punch to the long term readers. Or announce that you are getting rid of the coin system I knew the coin system was never going to last but you guys could of did a better job phasing them out than just thanos snapping them away.

TLDR; too many negative changes

Sorry I’m not trying to be rude or anything but enough is enough D:

WebComics - Webtoon, Manga app upgraded for the worst

I was a long time subscriber to their premium but freaked out when I saw that they charge $199 per month for their plus subscription when they used to charge only 5.99 a month! Turns out, they had made this change without notifying their plus subscribers and just kept them grandfathered in. So when I went back to resubscribe, I realized that they’ve upgraded their app to have a “premium option” which is a joke! With this option, you’re only allotted a certain amount of gems per month. The worst part is that some comics charge a different amount of gems. Expect to pay 3-4 gems per chapter even as a premium member, which is outrageous as some chapters are really short. If you look through their reviews, you’ll see many of their highest rated reviews were from 2 years ago before they made this change. I immediately cancelled my resubscription and will not be returning again. Looking at their replies to others who’ve mentioned the same, it looks like they’re set on keeping this terrible gems platform regardless of whether their customers wish otherwise. Also, half the comics on their platform stop uploading randomly so imagine wasting all that time and gems on a story just to have nooo conclusion - Their stories often go on “hiatus” and “hope to come back soon” then are marked with “completed” sneakily after a few months. I definitely don’t recommend this app, but if you decide to, I would NEVER recommend their premium subscription as there are soo many apps out there that let you read legally for way less (Bilibili for example has a few of the stories they charge gems for and are free if you’re willing to wait, or you can unlock using coins in advance.)

WebComics - Webtoon, Manga Great App! Give it a try!

So far, I really love this app. I have been using it for the past couple months now. You can favorite comics, look up comics, look at genres and more. The organization of it makes the app easy to navigate through. I have been looking for other apps like this one, but this app has been the only webcomic that includes the features listed above and actually updates their stuff frequently. Also! The company seems to listen to other’s concerns too so that’s a plus. I’m not going to speak for everyone, but with my experience, the app has NOT been crashing me out the app. That is not to say that it isn’t happening for others though. I’m just speaking from my experience. There have been a couple times where I get new chapter notifications and it hasn’t been updated, but that’s not a deal breaker for me to go and delete the app. I enjoy the translations and the art. This app and their company service has so much potential if they continue to keep this up :) The other best part of this app is that it’s free too! I hope this app sticks around, I really do enjoy the entertaining reads!

If I had to say 1 thing for the company to think about, I did notice one of my favorite comics I could not access today (holding me tightly, ghost sama). When clicked on, it gives me a blank page and sends me back to my favorites. I’m hoping it’s just a bug and not because the comic will stop updating all together. However, if it is the case the comic is gone, it would be nice to get a notification that the comic has been taken off for whatever reason. I’m not sure how that works behind the scenes, but as a reader, it would be nice to know so I’m not kept wondering what happened. Thanks! Keep it up ❤️

WebComics - Webtoon, Manga New update and membership is trash now! Membership is not worth it anymore!

I liked the old update before and the membership. I had purchased the membership before a couple times. And all the coins I earned I kept. I was able to read the comics for free with the membership.

What is the whole point of paying for a membership when you’re not getting the full benefits of how one is supposed to be. I had decided to purchase the membership again after the new update. And I thought it would be the same. But instead you get a couple coins a month and a couple gems. That isn’t worth me even reading and finishing a comic. And now most comics use gems. Everyday I’m watching ads to be able to read the comics that I like, even tho the membership says no ads. Like this is ridiculous! I will be cancelling this membership and might be deleting this app even tho it has a lot of great comics.

With the spin the wheel thing, I used to be able to get free days to read all the time and now it’s so hard to even get a free day or a 3-day pass once a month! Most people can’t afford to be paying for gems to read a comic. Comics that I used to be able to purchase with coins are all turning into using gems!

Almost every comic is using gems, I get that the author is trying to get supported and make money too but seriously fix your membership plan! Or plan some other way to earn gems. Maybe even do a spin the wheel of just gems cuz I don’t see the point of coins anymore when almost every comic is using GEMS! And the option you guys give to earn gems is so complicated. Now I have to start looking for new comics that use coins and stop reading the ones I was previously reading because of gems. I’m very disappointed and frustrated because of this.

Fix the membership plan! Because right now it’s not worth getting!

WebComics - Webtoon, Manga Annoying

I got on the app to read Cherry Blossoms in Winter and there was a promotion to get 8 hours reading time for $2.99. So I did that and finished the comic. Then my eight hours was up and I discovered the gem system. Developers, this is absolutely miserable. There's no straightforward way to understand how any of it works. Too many currencies (various tickets, coins, gems, and the descriptions of what they do are confusing). It seems that to read 60 chapters I'd need to spend $20 in gems. And some of these comics are 300 chapters long. Then you have to keep reloading the gems to keep reading, which takes you out of the comic to do. No way to see how many gems or tickets you have left as you read when they automatically deduct from your account. Very annoying. I'd rather buy access to a comic with an upfront cost or pay for a subscription that allows me unlimited reading. The gem system is putting me off. I will not be continuing to use the app.

Edit: got a response from the developer but it doesn't address my issue. I would rather buy a comic outright than buy gems. I would love to support the author, I would just prefer the most straightforward way to do it. Keep in mind that literally no one wants to pay $600 a year for a subscription and clearly a ton of reviews here mention that they hate the system you have now. Please reconsider a subscription service that people can afford. If you make the costs accessible, more people will join a subscription. If more people join, you make more money. If you make more money, people will support the authors. What I want is a chance to buy the comic outright or to pay for unlimited reading via a subscription. It's not hard. Until these options are available I don't want any part of this app.

WebComics - Webtoon, Manga I can’t anymore, NOT a good app for new readers

I’ve used this app for over three years, all the way back when the comics were free and you used to get prizes after collecting so many coins to exchange. I over looked the use of coins to now unlock comics and tried to be understanding but now it’s enough. They say we still have comics that are free to read but I’m sorry, it’s not the same, I was interested in this app for the comics I follow and support for over years or so, in which I carried loyalty for. I honestly don’t like that I have to stop supporting a comic and only follow other comics for a few days and just continue to hop from comic to comic that are free. I would just continue with the coin system in that case. That’s not what we want. Just like when I use a bigger app like WEBTOON, I go back for the comics I follow, connect with and seen grow. NOT to try to find a new comic almost everyday, just to pass the time. For this reason I don’t see me using this app much longer. The way this app is going, I don’t believe it’ll be able to stay around any longer than 6 years or so. Things are going to need to change in a BETTER WAY. The route it’s on now won’t work in the long run. I suggest a premium that’s near unlimited access to at least coin comics once more or stick to the coin system that was in place at the very beginning with the option to buy merch, we love to buy merch for the comics we believe in, as well as, followed for a long time. Even a short ad in between comic chapters, like YouTube in between videos, that’s 5 seconds long. There are other ways to go about this, I believe, but this current route is going to be to damaging to the majority of reader’s enjoyment using this app. Especially since many readers like me use this app to relax and a mini escape. Looking forward to your response.

WebComics - Webtoon, Manga Great until

Response to Developer:
Thank you for taking the time to respond.

I understand the reasons for charging gems as it is at the authors request and it also helps to support their work. To avoid other readers who might run into the same sort of disappointment that I might have (i.e. reading 100 chapters to only discover the change to gem charges), it would be appreciated if titles that do require gem purchases are mentioned somewhere in the description/label.

Thank you for clarifying that the completed genre tag is still there and will come back after maintenance. I also watch as many of the ads as possible to help support the app and get free coins as well. Would also recommend others to do the same. Thank you again for taking the time to respond and for all your hard work.

Original Review:
I’ve been using the app for a year and I really enjoyed it until the recent update.

Similar to what other reviews mention, the app utilized a coin system in order to read the content within the app. The coin system was fine an doable. I did pay premium back when the app was new but because of the limited choices back then and then over time for new comic releases, I ended up not renewing premium membership. I still enjoy the app as there was only a few things I read. Often times it’s common for the quality of the content to change over time and what not (which is understandable) but it makes spending coins and investing on a comic to feel sort of wasted.

At some point, the app made certain comics only available is you spend gems. For clarification coins are free (doesn’t cost real money) but gems cost real money. I understand this might be done to support the author. It was just sad to be 100 chapters in only to find out I can’t read anymore unless I paid.

The update also changed the filter options (by genre). I usually prefer to only read comics that are completed and I really hate that they decided to remove “completed” along with a lot of other filter options. PLEASE. PLEASE BRING IT BACK.

WebComics - Webtoon, Manga This app is my valentine

Most reviews I’ve been reading revolve around the coin feature and the fact that it seems like a paywall. You see, I guess it’s kind of annoying, but it’s appears to be necessary for some comics and (coins) are easily obtainable nevertheless. There are authors out there who need a stable income, meaning that they possibly don’t want to rely on donators or patrons in their salaries entirety. Hmm, the coins which are needed to unlock a chapter don’t seem too bad if you have a reasonable amount. If I recall, at some point, they gave out 10k coins after the update and with all the reading i’ve been doing, I’m still at 9k. 200 chapters of this one comic which got upspreed only cost me 1.7k (10c a chapter) and i’m almost at 10k again since it’s reasonably easy to build up how much coins i have. I love this app and how consistent the updates are, the wide variety of selections, and it’s upsprees with some comics. If you are too broke and dont wanna spend money, okay— sorry for the inconvenience, I guess.. just don’t read those comics. I’m also broke too and don’t even have a job jet, but I’m extremely grateful for being able to access comics like these which can be unlocked with the generous amount of currency the users of this app receive. I understand that some people wait a long time to read a specific story in order to enjoy it, but if you’re active in this app, it’s possible to obtain 100+ coins a day. (700+ a week) If i’m doing the math correctly that could result in 35 chapters which cost 20 coins a week. Most comics update 1-3 times a week which leaves you 11 comics which cost 20 coins a chapter and updates 3x a week. That seems bountiful enough in it’s entirety and the thing is, some comics cost 10 coins or less a chapter, and some are even free. I wish the complaining would stop, but I kind of understand the annoyance as well. I’m content with what this app allows me to do, though, and hope that one day I can upload a comic of my own. I’m only 14, so I have a long way to ago and many more happy years ahead of me reading the stories within WebComics~

WebComics - Webtoon, Manga Well, it does have comics

So I’m no stranger to manga, manhua, and manhwa. I have certain expectations for each. I do like that the updates are consistent with the app. That’s about it. I say half the translations need a serious proof reader or they just put into google translate. Some translations are so bad that if you don’t scan the sentence with a glance you won’t understand what the sentence is trying to say. It’s a shame because some of those really bad translations have a good premise. Others have the typical stilted translations that makes it obvious they are direct translations where the sentences and dialogue seem off rather than feeling natural. Some translations are really good but not enough stories are.

Second problem is the system. I do like that they have ways to read free. Mostly. You’ll get the first 20 chapters free to read without interference. And then you you hAve to pay coins or gems or watch an ad. The coins Can be gathered free daily. That’s nice. If your careful. You can save it all up and use them when you don’t want to watch an ad. Because ads are annoying. Specifically when you’re starting a 140 chapter story and each ad is a minute and the time reading a chapter is 30-45 seconds. It’s very disproportionate. I get they’re trying to make money but there re so many ads and they give you between 80-150 coins a day when coin fees are 10-30. That’s about 4-7 chapters. When you have 120 chapters left to read that’s a lot of ads you less you take it slowly (thus why I save up). Even after all that, some stories will start to only accepting gems. Which are paid for with real money. So for poor people like me, I have to drop a good story.

Some stories I don’t think they even translate. There is one story on here that is 50 chapters behind compared to another website and the translations are the same.

In summary, combined with poor translations, the obnoxious amount of ads I have to get through, only to eventually drop because they switched to a gem system, it’s a frustrating experience. Because Manhua often have multiple translated names, it can be hard to find the novel or another translated version, you get stuck having to use this app due to no other option.

WebComics - Webtoon, Manga Pls read this before downloading

I, like many others that have wrote negative reviews have been on this app for about a year or so.I can honestly say that this was my favorite app back then. The comics were and still are very good and I loved the coin system because it was reasonable unlike apps I had previously downloaded.there were diamonds but you didn’t NEED them ,they were just there for a better experience.

But ever since the app updated I've have gotten more and more frustrated.unlike before for almost all the comics you need a lot of coins to read, and I mean a lot.Like I said I did not mind watching the ads, but the amount that you need to watch in order to get through at least 10 chapters is absurd to me.I used to have over 7,000 coins, now that I’ve finished one comic I have 2,865.to put that into perspective I used to finish at least 3 before getting to 4,000 just because I’ve watch so many ads at a time.

But I didn’t complain much because the comics are still basically free for me so who am I to get mad at something that’s free. That is until I got a little deeper into a comic I was in the middle of reading. If you remember the diamonds I briefly talked about, well if you didn’t know before they cost real money.if you just look at the price before purchasing them then it doesn’t look to bad ,but it adds up.

Let me explain, so one chapter usually cost 2 diamonds, and the cost of 10 is .99¢. So that will get you through 5 chapters of the whole story. On average a solid story is 100 - 150 chapters long, for the sake of the example lets say 124. Do the math and you are paying about 12.40 for one comic, if that’s still not a lot for you imagine you pay for 5 comics over all, you have now spent about 62$ on one app. People just don’t have that money to spend.

This has happened to almost all of my story’s now, I literally only have one story left that doesn’t cost diamonds and if it happens to this story then I’m going to just delete the app entirely. to the owners of the app one person deleting it must not be a big deal. But I know for a fact that I am not the only one experiencing this, and it may not be now but soon people are going to start rapidly deleting the app because of this. And they will do it with ease because as of now there are better apps out there.

P.s if you have made it this far thank you for giving me your time.

WebComics - Webtoon, Manga 30-Day Period for Coins. Not a Fan

So, it updated and I hadn’t done so beforehand. I regret my decision. I haven’t gone through and experienced the new version yet. And I already read things I don’t like.
So basically- now they added that coins have a 30 day expiration day.

My question: WHY? What’s the point?

If I have coins and don’t have anything to read until one of my favorite comics update, I want to keep my coins. Save them. For those comics.

I currently have 20,000 coins. I believe I read there was a 90 day validity until expiration since I had them before the update. Idk I forgot. But.
Does that mean I’m going to lose all my coins? I don’t wanna be rude but that’s complete bs. Even if I have enough coins accumulated to read on. I don’t see the point in losing all my coins. Will I use every single coin? Maybe not, who knows tho. But I don’t think they should remove them. I accumulated all those coins over a year+ period. And I’m upset at the fact that the times I’ve restricted my coin use was for nothing. I’ve been doing it because there are some REALLY good stories and I don’t wanna watch ads for those. Ik waiting 30+ seconds isnt a lot but it’s a nicer experience. No interruptions.

Coins can go quickly so I can end up using even 1,000+ a day. It’s happened to me plenty of times before. Especially in my early days on the app. If I read stories that require 30 coins for it to be unlocked, 33 chapters is just under the mark of 1,000 coins. At 990. And some of these stories have really short chapters, or a lot of them because they’re really long. Is that a bad thing? Not necessarily. But it takes coins, and they go fast. Especially when unlocking is required around chapter 6 or something.

So if I want to take advantage of all my coins before the period of validity ends. I have to force myself to search for stories and read them. Use all my coins before the period ends.
Is that a bad thing?
Not necessarily. But I don’t want to do that. I’d use my coins for stories I happen to come across that I think are so good I should just use the coins.
I’m probably rambling for nothing atm and everything will be fine later but for now, I’m just upset. And I will not lie I will uninstall the app after I’ve finished all my favorite stories. It’ll take a while since some are fresh but. I don’t want to deal with the gems either. I really loved this app but I guess all things come to a close at some point.

WebComics - Webtoon, Manga Coins and unreasonably censored

For the first few chapters you can read them for free, but then you have to start paying with coins. The coin system isn’t that bad because you get a reasonable amount every day, you can watch ads for coins, and you get a small amount after a short period of time while in the app (not enough to make up for what you use though). The coins and ads supposedly support the authors, so overall they are not that big of a deal.
Sometimes it’s not even worth the coins to read a chapter because it’s so short, but it’s not actually that the chapters are short. This app censors things to an unreasonable extent. It has warnings for when a chapter is considered for more mature audiences or has sensitive subjects, but then still blurs parts out, such as showing a little too much skin on girls or occasionally weapons. The blurring is also really inconsistent, sometimes censoring fully clothed chests, while ignoring near nudity.
But the blurring is not the real problem with the censorship. The app will take out important scenes to the storyline without any indication. For example, one story I was reading has a girl get injured, but the app cut out how she was injured, and only showed what happened after with people reacting and helping her. Another scene had two child age sisters fighting each other during a battle where one side was trying to kidnap them. The scene then cuts to their dad coming to help them and having the one girl mention that the other one needs help. There is no other mention of her after that in the chapter. Looking at the story online outside of the app shows that the one girl was attacked by an unknown thing, essentially killing her, non graphically. The dad then abandoned the dying child for political reasons that were explained more in parts that were cut from the app’s version of this story. Again, this censoring happens even with the warnings on every chapter.
While the cutting of parts of the story are not usually this bad, they are present in most of the series in the app, along with the random blurring. Another thing to note is that the text or translations on this app are worse than you can find online for free. It’s not that big of a deal, but almost all the series have significant amounts of really bad grammar issues. Most of the time you can understand what was meant from the context, but sometimes there will be parts that make no sense at all even with context.
Another thing to note is that the series with these problems are the ones that they feature.
There are other small problems but these are probably the most important ones.
The overall layout of the app is nice though and pretty easy to use.

WebComics - Webtoon, Manga needs improvement

i like that now we have a way to get gems without having to purchase.. but 1,000 coins for 1 measly gem just doesn’t make sense, and then each chapter (depending on the comic) costs 2+ gems. We get around 90 coins a day, and there’s a Spin the Wheel for a chance to get more coins or a very small chance to read for free for a certain amount of days, but focusing more on the coin aspect, it takes almost two weeks just to get 1000 coins, which can then be traded for one measly gem... and then, let’s just say the comic costs 2 gems to unlock each chapter, that just means that we have to wait almost a month just to unlock one chapter, and that’s for comics that cost 2 gems per chapter... now think about the comics that cost more than two gems. that’s an even longer amount of time. i think you’re just trying to persuade customers to buy the gems or to buy premium because it’s better than waiting a long time, but some of us aren’t making money and are still going to school.

and moving on to the tickets. for those who don’t want to buy gems, we can now use red tickets to unlock one chapter for a certain amount of time...but it’s so frustrating that it’s only for english comics.. well now THATS just great (sarcasm).. now we have to figure out which comics we can use it on which is now an inconvenience to readers. it would be great to have some way to tell which comics allow red tickets rather than just finding out trying to unlock a chapter using red tickets. like you guys say we can only use it on english comics. how the heck’s are we supposed to be able to tell which comics we can use it on aside from attempting to unlock it. and how the heck are we supposed to know which comics are english-made and which aren’t.. just by the character names?

maybe it’s just the business-y side of me coming out but i like the old app way better when things costed coins instead of gems and you could get premium to unlock chapters in advance. the app now is just extremely frustrating, especially for someone like me who spent so much time saving up coins to unlock chapters, spinning the wheel and all that...

like what even is the point of coins anymore if absolutely everything costs gems and it’s just a total inconvenience now to readers who can’t afford to pay for premium or pay for gems which is now what every single comic costs to unlock chapters

i’m sorry this review is so long and full of complaints but honestly as much as i love the comics i’m reading, it’s just not worth my time to be waiting weeks to read one chapter

UPDATE: correction.. it costs 12,000 coins for 1 measly gem, which means it takes even LONGER to unlock one chapter.. yes it’s on sale now for 2,000 coins for 1 gem but that is still unreasonable

giving 2 stars is being lenient

WebComics - Webtoon, Manga This app is not safe

If you have read the title yes I am saying it is not safe... Why?

THE GEMS CURRENCY!

So you use “gems” to buy chapters that require gems. They also have a “coin” currency where you could also buy chapters. But istg this app is full of the most money hungry lovers out there in the world.

I know the authors work hard on the mangas and they want money, but let me tell you. They don’t even give a option for coins. If the author wants only gem currency, you can only pay with gems. If they want both gem and coin currency which I like, then you can pay with gem and coins.

But let me tell you... These authors are seriously money hungry authors... We readers support them through coin currency which I think we donate them coins and they can earn off it I believe. But let me tell you, please please don’t donate them till you finish the story. Because sooner or later you will have to pay with gems.

You may ask why are you complaining about the authors being greedy? They need money too.
Answer: Well I know that, that is why when I finish the story I would always donate them by coins. I always donate at least 3k coins. But I don’t do that anymore because when I first downloaded the app. I bought coins many times so I can have enough to read mangas. And so I decided why not donate these authors? Well I donated 3k coins and later they started charging gems only.

Let me tell you, I think the gems are 3 gems for 0.99 cents. But you may say oh well that is not a lot. Let me tell you, 3 gems equals 1 chapter. It could be a short chapter or long chapter but it still cost 3 gems. So basically your paying a dollar for a short chapter.

So as you can see this is a rip off. But we are now getting on to the MAIN FOCUS.

Main focus- this app is dangerous

So you know the gem currency now. The other way you could get it is by doing this task like taking surveys, buying stuff, etc. But let me tell you, the surveys are creepy af.

The surveys would ask you for your birthday, zip code, your taxes, your age, do you have kids or planning on to become pregnant, etc.

They are asking personal, WEIRD, and it is suggesting me human trafficking behavior.

Let me also tell you, those surveys that you take to get “free gems”, trackers are trying to get your location. (If you don’t know IOS have a thing where they prevent trackers from tracking you) when I checked the data, the surveys from the webcomic has the most trackers trying to get my location. There was over 100 trackers trying to get my location prevented.. from they surveys web comics provide you to get free gems.

I feel like that these surveys are human trafficking surveys and basically like it’s a survey for predators to exactly find what they are looking for. If you have met the criteria and they got your location... Your in danger. Guess why? All because of webcomics. I know for a fact sooner or later someone is going to be kidnapped or go into the human trafficking system because of this app.

Please webcomic, just let go of the gems currency. You must have to find another way to make money because at this point, your putting our lives in danger. That is why I uninstalled this app. Please please just respond to this as this is so important to me to feel safe as I read your stories you provide.

WebComics - Webtoon, Manga Update

I love to read. Especially comics. Webcomics have always been easy to read when I have a little bit of spare time, just pull out my phone and scroll through. Lately I haven’t had enough time to pick up a book and actually read, so this is great. I used to exclusively read Webtoon, but as my spare time decreased I downloaded similar apps, including Webcomics.

At first I still liked Webtoon more, but as I downloaded other apps and continued to read my appretation for Webcomics grew. While I didn’t love the coin system and having to watch videos, it was still free, and it supported the author.

However, recent updates have restricted readers more and more. When I first downloaded the app, you could buy large amounts of chapters, for less coins in the long run, and binge the series. That’s feature was taken out and replaced with gems, which must be purchased.

I didn’t think to much about it and I just continued watching videos to gain maximum coins and many stories were costing more coins. I used to read stories that were 10, 20, and 30 coins, where now almost all of them are 30 coins.

Then there were whole stories that had to be unlocked with gems. And though it was extremely inconvenient to watch a video for each chapter, it was still free, and worth it for some comics.

None of these would push me to the point of writing a review, because like I mentioned previously, I don’t have much time on my hands, but the changes that have occurred after a recent updates have caused me to spend that limited time writing this.

The old weekly schedule used to offer 80-100 coins depending on the day, and you could get 120% of those daily coins by watching a video. On a 100 coin day, that would be 120 coins. However, now the daily coins are 30, offering 90, if you watch the video. While there are ways to more than make up this decrease, such as a coin wheel, and a new miner game, each turn requires you to watch a video, and by the time you have done this, where is the time to read?

In addition there are many more stories requiring gems. At first when I saw that I got 5 free videos that would allow me to read these, I assumed that I would get 5 a day, and be able to continue reading these comics. Although it was indeed inconvenient, I still wanted to be able to support the authors and read their fantastic comics. Unfortunately, this was not the case. I later discovered you get 5 free videos per comic that costs gems. Basically you are only allowed to get further into the story to later get left at a cliffhanger and have to pay. To someone who loves to read that’s difficult.

I figured, when I save up money, I’ll just get a subscription, which is probably not the best plan financially, but I’ll just cut out some other leisurely activities. This is where I generally pity those who don’t do the calculations. A premium subscription is $5.99 monthly, and provides 60 gems and 1800 coins. A yearly subscription is $69.99, and provides 700 gems, and 21,000 coins. Usually, a yearly subscription would be a much better deal than a monthly one, otherwise there would be no point to having a yearly subscription at all. And while the yearly is less, it is only by a minuscule amount. Paying for the monthly subscription for a year is a total of $71.88, where you would receive a total of 720 gems and 21,600 gems. In reality the yearly subscription isn’t even a greater value. The monthly for a year is only a couple more dollars, with more gems and coins.

What further baffles me is the fact that on days that I take the time to go through and do all of the coin opportunities, I receive around 1,000 coins. Within 2 days, I would receive more than a monthly subscription, and within a month I would receive more that a yearly subscription or even a monthly subscription for a year.

Furthermore, there is a Plus subscription, which I was familiar with and did the free trial. What was strange was how difficult it was for me to find again. The premium is flaunted in the stores and in the free coins section. (Which doesn’t make sense considering it’s not free.) The Plus subscription can only be found from my experience by tapping on the premium subscription and reading the fine print below the given options, where is says “5. Plus Member>>”. If not for the arrows and the fact that it was underlined, I wouldn’t have bothered to click on it but I’m glad I did.

A plus membership allows you to read all comic free, therefore eliminating the need for coins or gems and while it is more expensive monthly at $6.99, for a total cost of $83.88, the yearly subscription is currently on sale for $57.99. That is cheaper than any other subscription, and guarantees you can read all of the comics without worrying about gems or coins running out. Again, I’m glad I read the fine print, because this subscription only applies for IOS users. I am glad that I happen to be one, but what about all the other users who would be willing to pay for this for the convenience or to help support the authors.

The only other options for gems is the offer wall. Almost all of the offers require you to take a quiz that wastes have of your day or recess personal information, or requires you to make a purchase on an unfamiliar website.

If I hadn’t had this app for so long I would have deleted it, but I am still holding out hope that Webcomic may change back, or do something to make it easier for readers to continue to read for free. I noticed that there is a new update available, which I am about to download out of good faith. I genuinely hope Webcomic turns this around for their sake and the sake of their authors. I would hate to see a bunch of readers abandon the app do to these knew developments. I doubt anyone will read this, and if they do not to the end, since this was very long, but if you happened to I hope this helped you, or at least was informative.

WebComics - Webtoon, Manga Disgusted

I came back to this app and spent 6 bucks for the premium and I still have to pay for comics? The app wasn’t like this before, if you had premium or plus or whatever it was you could read anything without paying coins or gems... disgusting. I understand that your authors want people to pay gems for their comics, but because of that there’s literally no use for premium. Honestly you should just remove premium as a feature because there’s legit no reason for it.

and if your wondering what you get for premium you get legit nothing. “Early access to chapters” my [censored] if we have to pay for gems, a premium pack that only gives you 60 gems which disappears in a flash if you binge read, and other useless things like a logo and a frame...

Gave this app a 2 star rating cause of the comics itself, otherwise consider me quite disappointed

EDIT (1 second later actually): WOW, consider me even MORE disgusted. You even have to pay coins now even though you’re a premium member. Yeah don’t even bother with this app and use WEBTOONS or something like that.

WebComics - Webtoon, Manga The new update

I’ve had this app for years and I was fine with paying with coins and waiting until I got more to continue but now with the new update it’s turning into Tappytoon where there’s going to be barely any that you will be able to read for free and it’s honestly disheartening that you took this rout. I’d hate to only have Webtoon’s selection and stop supporting the people I had grown to like on this platform because I don’t have the money to pay for gems or at least give an ad (or multiple) option for gem ones, or just do what Webtoon does and have a couple that you have to wait until a certain time to unlock. My main problem is it doesn’t even say that it’s going to cost gems you have to get like 20+ chapters in to find out, there’s even one I’m 70 chapters in and it suddenly turned to gem I feel like this is unfair to readers and writers because the readers have to stop supporting the artist because they don’t have the money to support the artist and the artist loses money because they won’t even get coins or ad watches, people will just not read on and support people who have it not for gems.

WebComics - Webtoon, Manga Everything requires Gems now

I used to really enjoy this app, but now almost every comic on here has turned into Gems only, and Gems costs money.
There isn’t a single comic on here that I enjoyed that hasn’t been converted to Gems. The ones that doesn’t require them aren’t very good, OR later on, once you’re already properly invested in the story, the author will decide to convert it as well. Then your left in the dust with no resolution to the story.

There’s also another system for coins, which is rendered completely useless now.
I know I am not alone in my frustration because every time a comic starts to require Gems, there is a severe reaction in the comment section. This same situation happened with Tapas comic app, where they started to charge for every comic and everyone was upset.
Many people are leaving this app and are forced to go to the last mobile comic app that is any good, Webtoons.

I’m not sure if the app developers are aware of how upset they are making people, and how many users they are losing because of this. But I’ve deleted the app, and I’m definitely not coming back. I’m sure many other users are in the same boat.

WebComics - Webtoon, Manga I miss the way it used to be

I had been using this app for almost four years. I always found joy in downloading comics to read offline without the worry of it requiring me to pay. Then months after my first use of the app, it introduced coins and gems—to which I didn’t have a problem with it at first. Collecting coins was pretty easy since you could use gems or coins to unlock a new chapter, even watching a short ad. But then things began to go downhill. The frequent use of gems overruled coins, making readers be required to pay to read the stories they liked. I do understand authors wanting to be paid for the work they put into creating these stories, but it’s difficult for customers who want to find affordable reading applications. To add on, the prices are very over the top. I cannot fathom how a person could spend so much money just to read a single chapter. I do wish that the app can bring back the option of using coins alongside gems, or watching ads. But alas, my words wouldn’t be taken into account due to how people worship money. It’ll be brushed over just as all the rest of the low-starred reviews have been. Thank you for taking the time to read this.

WebComics - Webtoon, Manga Really disappointed

I’ve had this app for years and loved it because there was so good material to read. I even bought the premium subscription because it was awesome at the time. I used to read anything I wanted for free because of the premium subscription. Except of course the newer chapters that required gems or coins. I had stopped using the app for a great while and decided to start using it again. Little did I know that there was a lot that has changed and new updates were implemented. Now even with my premium subscription I feel like a regular user because I’m having to pay in gems really early in the chapters. Like I might as well not have a premium subscription. And my biggest disappointment would have to be that before I stop using the app for a while I had read some major comics that had 200+ chapters and thats where i left off on some of them. When I started previously using the app again I wanted to refresh on some of the comics that I have already read up to 200+ but only found great dissatisfaction when i had to buy all previous chapters that i have already read! I understand that authors need to get paid for the work and I respect that. But I just want to know why I have to pay for material that I have already read before.

WebComics - Webtoon, Manga system

I’ve had this app for multiple years already and there were so many great manhwas. I really loved this app back then but as of now, it’s getting worse and worse. The manhwas are still interesting. However, it is extremely difficult to even read anymore. In the past, you could use coins to unlock chapters, which was actually pretty nice. However, recently there was an addition of gems which made it more difficult to read some of the best manhwas without having to spend money. I understand that the arthurs need money and this will most likely be their only source. I had no complaints because I understood that they probably want to earn money. However, now it is completely impossible to even read without spending money. The app has added something called a “mall” where you will need to spend your coins for reading tickets. You won’t be able to read much at all because of how expensive the reading tickets cost. Literally, the only way to read any of the manhwas now is to spend money which I don’t have because i’m still a student. I believe a lot of other readers can relate to this. I truly used to adore this app. I spent hours and hours reading on it. But now I can’t even spend 15 minutes on it because I can’t read anything at all.

WebComics - Webtoon, Manga Bad romantic storylines

When I first saw this app I thought it was really great and I don’t mind the coins.
I think the pure action comics are great but I have a problem with the romantic ones.
A lot of the romantic comics have the same formula of the female protagonist being taken advantages of/raped but then keeping the narrative as the idea that it’s her fault, and that the lady is happy in the end because she falls in love with her rapist.
I find that quite disgusting and unsettling but if ppl prefer that then I guess so? But can we get a good romantic story that doesn’t have a protagonist being raped. The problem with a lot of these stories is that mostly young women get an idea that
1) being raped isn’t terrible because the main character ends up with a hot guy and always moves on in her life
2) raping isn’t worthy of punishment because many of the rapists in the stories aren’t punished
3) because you drank it’s your fault that you’ve been raped. This is 100% untrue. Yes someone is putting themselves in a more vulnerable state but that doesn’t mean that just because you put yourself in a vulnerable state means you SHOULD be raped.

Anyways my main point is that I want a romantic story with a healthy relationship, a stronger female lead, and less subservient too

WebComics - Webtoon, Manga Greed ruined the app

New:

I decided to go on the app after not using it for a while— and I regret updating it. Chapters are locked and can only be read if you buy gems or watch ads. Coins are practically useless now especially since they expire.

I understand that the creators and translators need to earn a living, however, it’s getting to be too much. I’m just glad I never paid for Premium. I know things aren’t going to get better, sadly, so I don’t see a solution other than deleting the app.

Old:

Lots to choose from! In fact, there are so many that I can’t keep up with them haha. I’ve been using this app for a while now. I’ve used Webtoons first but then I got Webcomics as well.

There are a ton of romance comics and they are usually the most popular ones. A lot of them are repetitive and cliche though. And like some people mentioned there are toxic relationships.

You can also search things up by genre or add things to your favorites. And they have this nice feature called Weekly Review which informs you about new and completed comics.

Some of the web comics require coins to read the chapters, but you can earn them by logging in the app daily, watching ads, or by getting the premium version Plus. Overall, it a good web comics app, but it could definitely improve.

WebComics - Webtoon, Manga Why pay more???

I think this is ridiculous! You make us paid $69.99 and plus tax. Total of $75 for a subscription. Beside that buy more gems/coins?! Seriously.. what happened to the original Plus $57.99? I’m also so confused on your false advertising price for subscriptions. What’s the difference of a plus and premium? The first time I purchased the plus and it’s free everything cause is $57.99. Premium is totally overpriced for a subscription $69.99 and don’t get free at all.

I hope your apps can make it better like last time as original for us customers shake. Because this is a bit too much. If you want us to to pay gems and coins than do not add the subscription. Compare to other apps comic doesn’t have the subscription but pay only coins. I rather support their apps than this overpricing here.

Now I sooo regretted purchasing the second time on this ridiculous subscription and don’t get free. Unless Please update your apps to who already had brought the subscription and free? To without subscriptions will have to buy gems/coins? Think about it SUBSCRIPTION get free everything or just pay GEMS/COINS? Please reconsider?

What I want is my money back but it’s too late. If nothing change then this will be my first and last time of this app. Now I am stucked for one year.

WebComics - Webtoon, Manga Translation Nightmare

This app has issues. First I don’t like the infinite scrolling setup and would prefer separate chapters. Second, there aren’t author information pages, so no quick way to check if they have other works, Patreon or social media.

Third, and most important, the English translations are horrendous. The translations read almost as if someone used google translate. Even their most popular and featured comics suffer from this. It’s to the point that it takes away from the enjoyment of reading.

The stories in general are shallow and poorly written...and this is made worse with bad translation. I can’t tell where the app finds all the artists, or if artists can upload their work directly, but there is a consistent low quality to the stories. On Webtoon, there is a lot more variety in quality and styles at little cost. Meanwhile, Tappytoon has great translations and generally higher quality art and stories from extremely popular Korean webcomic artists (so long as you are willing to pay).

I’m willing to pay for quality but the stories and translations on this app don’t have it. Also, don’t tell me to leave feedback with translation corrections. That is a lazy response that doesn’t fix the problem. To fix the problem—hire good translators and good quality checkers.

WebComics - Webtoon, Manga Gem disaster

I have never wrote a review before and wasn’t planning to but I was just shocked by how Webcomics has changed. I have used it for a year now and I didn’t think anything bad of the coins system before. Yes, it is annoying but the ads were necessary for the authors to be paid. But now they had a sudden update and people needed to give gems in order to unlock chapters. I don’t know if this helped authors gain more money but I do know that there were many comments about this system. There was a lot of negative feedback because there was now no way to read the comics without paying with real money. Many readers can not afford the gems. Also, the coins that are given for free are useless. The coin system should be at least replaced if not used. You are leading the readers on because they probably are trying to search for a way to use it but instead are left with disappointment. They saved up the coins day by day for the comics only to see it rendered useless.

This is my honest opinion: I do believe the comics are very good and fun to read. But for the readers who are looking for a place to read with more freedom and not having to pay every single time a new chapter comes out; I would say this is not the best app for young readers or people who prefer not to spend money on apps.

WebComics - Webtoon, Manga SCAM updates

I seen that many good reviews have not been updates so I thought it was right to let new people know. This app used to be fantastic with unlocking chapter and etc. I understand with the updates and putting something to unlock chapters to support the authors. I did not mind unlocking each chapter by watching an advertisement but this app is mainly trying to scam money with the newest update. The changing of the terms for premium is also outrageous. I am paying $6 a month and I no longer get to read the chapter without paying for coins or gems. You used to get around 60-120 coins by logging in daily but now it is a 30 coins a day and for reference you need 30 coins a chapter. So basically the creators are pushing you to buy gems or coins directly. Premium is basically useless now unless you want a pretty border or early access. Many buys buy the subscription because you get access to chapter without having to give coins and gems which no longer happens so premium is useless. The gift of gems and coins is basically to encourage reading, getting hooked, then spending more money on gems because you now have premium but no gems meaning you can no longer read and the subscription is once again useless. Now my subscription is now useless for this month, I will be trying to get a refund for my now wasted money.

WebComics - Webtoon, Manga Used to be better

I’ve been using the app for almost 2 years now. I’m even subscribed as a plus member. The comics uploaded are always good, and I enjoy them. But since each chapter is so expensive, I went from reading around 20 comics a day to 3 a week. I’m not willing to spend $100 for a comic that stopped uploading. Which is sadly what happened to a lot of the ones I used to read.

Another thing that bothers me, is the lack of free comics. They used to make a comic for free for promotion purposes. I liked the free comics since it allowed me to see if I enjoyed reading before purchasing more chapters. I also used this method for finding new comics to read, but since it was taken away, I’ve stopped finding new ones.

Lastly, the user interface has gotten extremely messy. Before, it was easy to find new comics and it was a simpler home page. Upsprees at the top, recommend comics, and new releases. Now, the home page never ends and has so many comics on it. The new homepage is unpleasant to scroll and I have buyers dilemma when looking at it.

The only reason I gave this 2 stars is because this app used to be my favorite. I’d rather support other apps now since the money you pay toward the development of the app has made it worst. This app lacks pro features, other than reading in advance. There are often untranslated panels as well, so it’s not worth the money spent to unlock a chapter.

WebComics - Webtoon, Manga This app is a ripoff

As an artist I understand wanted to get paid for their work but I would never rip off my audience. If I am making a comic that has always been free but then I want to start making money off of it, I would have still made sure that there was a way for my audience who have been there from the beginning a way to still read it without ripping them off of their money. The app doesn’t even make it worth it to spend your money, whereas on Webtoon I can say that spending some of the money that I work for is worth spending for those amazing stories. But Webcomics does not make it worth it ALL. It’s a shame how good this app used to be and how good the stories used to be but if there isn’t a solution to this problem then I will be deleting this app soon. Even though I wish I could finish some comics that I’ve already started, I hate being ripped off for no reason. Also don’t give me that same response on how the authors want to be paid, you should make sure that the authors actually has an actual reliable payment method that’s also fair to the readers, since you keep saying that it’s the authors that require these payments then control the authors. Make sure that they are actually using reliable payment methods or at the very least have ways where we can earn gems so that we can read those stories that are just that’s making us pay for a comic all of a sudden that I’ve reason for years news.

WebComics - Webtoon, Manga Good but the coins system thing is not good at all

I get that the authors of the comics want to get paid but sometimes the reader are paying for “ amazing content of the comic.” Basically on some chapters we are paying for short, rush, something that does not go with the story line, or very poor content. This is not a good thing and The description of the app says “free comics when you want them” this is a huge lie. The lie being that the comics are not free and we have to spend coins to read them. The daily or free coins give such a small amount of coins and just to read 1 chapter that is like 3 panels is so expensive and uses up so may the coins. And because your paying coins to read the comics, what happens when you use all of them? You can’t get the content when you want because you broke in coins. Not only that, when you pay REAL MONEY to get more coins half the time IT DOESN'T WORK. You can’t get refunds on the money you just spent for nothing and plus it gives you such a small amount of coins that you only have enough to read like 10 chapters and if you are like me then you like to read a lot of them. It’s really a waste of coins and a complete lie and the small events they hold to get coins is not worth it. You get like 5 coins when you read for five minutes. That not even enough to read another chapter. You will have to read like 20-30 minutes just to read one chapter. Most people or people that read fast have to wait and waste time to read the comics. Some of the comics also come from WEBTOON.

WebComics - Webtoon, Manga Disappointed

I use to love this app so much❤️ it was (for me) the best app to read comics, it was easy to work with and to read the comics were so easy, and overall just loved it so much.
But now this app is really just unusable, like for real. You can’t read basically NOTHING on This app, everything cost gems now, like understand that it’s gems so that it can support the author so that they can make “money” or whatever but how are they making money? Cause if you look at the reviews a good amount of people don’t like this app anymore and people especially younger people say they can’t use the app anymore because they can’t read basically nothing and can’t pay for the subscriptions to get premium , so they delete the app. Like it would be so much easier if coins were the Main support because I can’t get gems at all, that offer wall or whatever it’s called to get free gems legit doesn’t work I tried multiple times and does not work. Like the only way I can read story’s is if I get three days for free or one day for free to read story’s, which is sad because I remember being able to read so much story’s in one day and now I read like basically once a week or once every 2 to three weeks because I can’t get the 3 or 1 day for free. I won’t ever delete the app because I have some story’s that I really like and I like to reread them (when I get 1 or 3 days for free) but PLEASE change the way the app works because if not I’ll just delete the app then and then get webtoons instead.

WebComics - Webtoon, Manga Incredibly disappointing coin and gem system with underwhelming subscription benefits

Believe me when I say that I’m not one to leave reviews when it comes to apps or services, let alone negative ones. I’ve been using this app ever since 2018, I loved it. You could read multiple comics with little expense and more often than not, it was free. For many ‘youngsters’ like me, it was perfectly reasonable. To my dismay, I signed in after a year of being inactive and was absolutely shocked at just the audacity. A standard completed comic is ~150 chapters, each chapter containing ~30 panels worth of content. For those paying the monthly subscription, the gems and coins only last perhaps ~70 chapters if not less. I recall when I first joined this app coins were easy to come across and chapters only costed about 10-20 coins each. Now, if the comic restricts coin transactions then the only option is a “general red ticket.” Which is essentially a 200 coin TEMPORARY pass to read a SINGLE chapter. What was also incredibly infuriating was them promoting/advertising individuals to engage with third party companies subscription plans, discounts, surveys for gems. This often includes buying a three month subscription plan for 200 gems, or filling out a 30 question survey for 1 gem. I think that this is completely outrageous for an app designated for younger individuals. For those seeking comfort in reading comics, I advise you to search them elsewhere where it’s most likely available completely for free and with little restrictions. I hope the developers of this app can adjust this system to make it more reasonable and enjoyable for their consumers.
