Tonight I went to my normal Woolworths in Aspley Hypermarket to grab things. My wife and I have shopped here for years and spend anywhere from $300-$600 a week depending on necessities.
Tonight around 7pm I approached the registers with more or less a full trolley and noticed none of the registers appeared open as no one was staffing them. That said at least 3 possibly 4 young staff were leaning around by the exit of the self service area having a great old chat, nearly as if they were all on lunch break. Anyhow I approached hoping the obvious would be noticed and someone would offer to take me through a register but that didn’t happen. So I made a joke/ settle hint towards them stating, “gee you’re presenting a strong case to be out of a job to self serving aren’t you. One in particular person laughed and agreed. Her name was Summer. I explained I wasn’t really joking and her response became quickly aggressive stating that if I wanted to complain go do so over there and pointed to the front desk. So I said I will and I also pointed out to her how rude she was. To that she replied I don’t need to take your [censored]!
After this I asked to speak to the manager and was greeted by an older boy by the name of Jack. Initially Jack defended his staff and said it was not productive to have someone stand on a register when it’s quiet and that they were in fact cleaning and having their break when standing where they were.
So anyhow, whilst it’s unlikely anything will be done about this I sincerely hope it is. I run a sale team myself and whilst in reality the customer may not always be right Guest experience is very important as is respect and both of these were severely lacking tonight.
So what to do now, I feel as if this experience should have consequences for Woolworths and whilst my pocket change to Woolworths may be neither here nor there I intend to now switch to Coles. Maybe that is my only solution to avoid dealing with such children representing the front line of what is meant to be a quality brand.
We shall see.
Desired outcome: A written warning for Summer is what is appropriate to be honest.
Yes Ryan,,,I do not go to Woolworths same reason,,, very rude staff, no manners.
I drive 64 km every two weeks and do my shopping at Horsham Coles, I would never go back to Woolworths again.
