We are senior citizens and live in campbell river bc canada. We got what we thought was an email from costco asking us to take a survey about costco and then as a thank you we would get our choice of some free products shipped to us. Talking to costco today we found out that this company, abella mayfai cut and pasted logos and information from costco to make people believe they were really dealing with a legitimate costco email but it was all a fraud soon to get worse. My wife filled out the survey and then chose the supposed "free" gift from abella mayfair. She was to get two items free but had to give out her credit card number to pay for shipping and handling. Guess what? Surprise! She was charged $150+ for one item and $130+ for the other item. The bank of nova scotia paid these charges on our behalf. When we contacted bns they said there was nothing they could do to help us as my wife had voluntarily given out her credit card number. They acknowledged that this was all a scam but said there was nothing they could do about it except cancel my wife's credit card and issue a new one to her. So it really had nothing to do with costco. The bank refused to offer us a refund or any real help whatsoever. We contacted abella mayfair and they refused to refund us saying that 2 weeks had passed and that there was nothing they could do. Our next step will be to contact the rcmp but we don't believe this will help us get our money back. I guess we're stuck. Being senior citizens who are not wealthy and living on a fixed income these fraudulent charges really hurt. We have been preyed upon by really mean people.
I just went through the same thing, the 50.00 credit for each item, i contacted the Better Business Bureau online and filed a complaint, i see abella mayfair just did another two credits totaling 145.90 on my visa. So contact the BBB and you will get their attention that way and get a full refund.
Someone should start a class action lawsuit against this company their practices are border line fraud
Shelly Bridge
Campbell River
HI Shelly. The same thing happened to me, except I have been charged $ 600.00...and not sure where to turn. Oh ok. Was going to ask, whether it is the local BBB. See that you contacted them online. I will do the same. I have not had an income for 3.5 years and not able to afford this...This is just unbelievable. I am so shocked, that something like this can happen!
Same story here. MasterCard will not help my $270 charge to this fraudulent company. Abella Mayfair is refusing to refund or even send me proof that I ever agreed to their ridiculous terms. I have filed a complaint with BBB and will persue any and all avenues to recoup my money. As a senior citizen I absolute cannot afford this SCAM. SCAM. SCAM
I had the same thing just happen to me this week. I have called to get a full refund and am waiting for this to show on my card. I agree that there should be a class action against them. If there are enough people to participate I am all for starting one it this is a viable option for the scam they are running. I'm shocked that this company is still in business
Shelly: This is not border-line fraud. It IS fraud.! Abelle Mayfair did the same thing to me. They are criminals who stole money from me just the same as if they had held me up at the bank machine! They should be shut down and go to jail for theft. If you want to start a class action laswsuit, I am all for it. Anybody else? Please reply to me here! From: Doreen Marion Gee, Victoria BC
For crying out loud, Shelley, the FIRST THING you should do is CANCEL YOUR VISA CARD! Do not give this company another opportunity to steal any more money from you! ----- Doreen Gee, Victoria
Please do start a class action . These people are frauds, scamming so many people out of thousands of dollars. This just happened to me. 700.00 on my credit card. Master Card won't help either. IM IN FOR A CLASS ACTION AGAINST ABELLA MAYFAIR! Please let me know if you start/started one.
Hi Shelly. Just want to say that the same thing happened to me back in December 2016. I fought as heck with the company. They remained adamant that I did not read their Terms and Conditions and that the two week period where to return the product, that I clearly did not want and had not ordered. I phoned the local RCMP (Comox Valley), reported this with the Fraud Reporting and also complaint with the Better Business Bureau in Victoria and then again with the Better Business Bureau in Ontario, letting them know all along that this is what I was doing and that I also compaint on the Complaint Board. Initially they told me that they would take the last Credit Card charge off if I would remove the post with the Complaint Board. I told them that I would think about it once all the money was refunded. I was so shocked that this can and did happen. They ended up leaving a comment on the Better Business Bureau Complaint Board that they would make an exception this time and refund all the money. It was worth all the aggravation. It took awhile and boy I told them what I thought of them and their so called business practices but eventually I would get all the money back. Around $ 500.00 So don't sit idly please. These people cannot get away with this!
I am in Quebec and a similar story, but for a big, accumulated number of $..Discouraged, because was made ona a credit card i rarely use, so its a nightmare when i realize this fraud, , , low income with youhng childrens, Willing to join a class action !
I have taken a number of steps. But if I m not satisfied I will take them to small claims court. Problem is that they have so many names and addresses it is hard to track them down. I do have a few physical addresses but I need to be sure prior to submitting legal paper work. Does anybody know where SkinBalance is located and what company name they go by. On my credit card statement I seen two different names. Any information would be greatly appreciated.
I actually got the product, and used it...I read the fine print, and cancelled the order within the time that was allotted, and was not charged for the product...I ordered the 3 month trial...This product is exceptional, and I wish to God I could get my hands on it...I would gladly pay the 100 a month to keep this product in my cosmetic bag...I have given it to a friend, and she too would love to have this product...She, by the way, looks a good 30 years younger since using this product...She bought a product in Vegas, that was supposed to be a 6 month supply, and paid a thousand dollars for...only to get home and not even have a months supply...FINE PRINT PEOPLE...read it...I did, and now it is impossible to get this product because everyone that didnt read has bashed this company...nothing is free...especially if you read the fine print
The exact same thing has happened to me. I also received a survey and offered rewards for participating. I just had to pay the shipping costs.
I tried the product and wasn't impressed so didn't think to order any more of it. There was nothing that came in the shipment of the trial products to alert me of a 14 day cancellation policy. Then the charges appeared on my credit card. This is a scam!
I contacted them by email and I have received notice from them that my subscription is cancelled but I will not receive a refund.
I plan to visit my bank tomorrow to change my credit card number because they will not get another penny from me
I would be pleased to cooperate with other Canadians in a class action lawsuit. Let them pay their and our legal fees for their complicity.
I'm in
I'm in, please.
I'm with u on stopping these crooks
I'm in!
I am in
I am in Please
Lynda. Same thing happened to me in December 2016. I fought as heck and complained with the RCMP, the Fraud Reporting on Canadian Government website, the Better Business Bureau and told them on numerous occasions what I thought of them and their business practices and I told them exactly what I was up to with filing Complaints all over the place. Eventually they ask me if I would remove the post on the Complaint Board. I told them that I would think about that once I had the full amount back on my credit card. Eventually they left a comment with Better Business Bureau Complaint Site that they would make an exception and refund the full amount. It took a while and it was a big aggravation but well worth sticking it out. I think I got almost $ 500.00 Can. $ back.. Please do not sit idly.
I got taken too. My Credit Card company blocked the most recent charges. But I am still on the hook for 2 charges ($100 USD and $90 USD). I still have the insert that came with the product. Nothing about a subscription or how to cancel/return product. Instead it covers how to apply the product and a discount code and phone number to order more. ARGH! My credit card has been cancelled and I'm now waiting for a new one. Very annoyed.
Ditto for me. This company must be stopped.
I experienced a similar scam. I exit Bell.ca website and a form with the Bell.ca brand a colours poped-up inviting me to provide a review in exchange for a free gift. I filled the form and they asked me to pay for the shipping so I provided my credit card info. They changed me twice for 3, 95 usd and 4, 95 usd. 14 days later they charged me again twice for 99.95 usd plus 89 usd. When I noticed the transactions on my bank account I called my bank but they asked me to call Abella Mayfair and try to get a refund. They also told me to ask them to email me the purchase order confirmation which Abella Mayfair never sent. I called Abella Mayfair twice and at the second call they gave me a refund of 100 usd and asked me to return the creams as a condition for refunding the remaining amount. Right now I'm waiting to see the 100 usd put in my bank account. Hopefully they'll right this situation.
By the way, I'm a software engineer, very knowledgeable about internet scams but this one was more than regular scams as they were able to integrate very well with Bell.ca brand and colours. Any advice - besides not shopping online - is welcome.
I was scammed on this "trial " offer as well. Their customer support is rude and actually hung up on me. I never saw or ticked any boxes for a "subscription" to this product, and certainly didn't see any subscription agreement. I was charged for the "trial samples" and received a second shipment a month later. I called them and they agreed to a " customer good will" refund of $100, and then to refund the last 2 charges, when I returned the second shipment of the product. They did refund the last 2 charges, but then told me I was mistaken about the $100 . When I asked to talk to a supervisor, she told me there was nothing else she could do and hung up on me. This company is reprehensible. And the product is nothing special either . I am considering filing a complaint with consumer protection.
Please do file a complaint. Same thing happened to me in December 2016. I phoned the police, filed with Fraud Department on Government website and complaint with Better Business Bureau and told Abella Mayfair all along what I was up to what I thought of them and their so called "Business Practicess". I just kept emailing them asking for my money back and what SCAM I thought this was. Eventually they would post something on Better Business Bureau Complaint that they would make an exception and refund the full amount. I emailed them right away and told them that I would hold them to this. I did get the full amount back. Nearly $ 500.00 Can. Dollars. So please do not sit idly and get pro active. The more people do this maybe the less they get away with it and hopefully stop all together...
In which state or province are you ?
I have been scammed to the tune of $559 dollars. I have filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. Has anyone done this and had it be successful? Any other options?
Legal recourse is useless. Though none of us knew it, we all 'agreed' to their terms and they have paid some lawyers big money to lock it up tight. In the terms, you agree that you won't initiate legal action.
I'm sick to my stomach. This is money I do not have. There goes any Christmas gifts.
I am in same situation, and bank Mastercard is basically not taking accountability at all as apparently I agreed to terms. Abella offered a 100 refund and perhaps I should just take that rather than losing the 600bucks?
I filed a complaint with BBB, what a hit just after Christmas, they are not part of BBB they have a F rating look what it says about them
Elizabeth. The same thing happened to me. Back in December 2016. It took me awhile, but I did get the full amount back. I am sorry I am just getting back on this website but I wanted to tell people to not sit idly and be proactive. I phone the police, filed a report with the Fraud Reporting with Government Website and filed complaints with Better Business Bureau all along letting the company know what I was doing and what I thought of their so called "Business Practice". I also kept e-mailing them as phone conversations wouldn't get anywhere and Credit Card company said it was a Fraud and there was nothing they or I could do and that I was stuck with the charges. I had a difficult time accepting this and told them frequently via e-mail that I want my money back and that I think this is SCAM. Eventually they did leave a message on Better Business Bureau Complaint stating that they would make an exception and refund the full amount. Initially they had also told me that they would refund the last charge on my credit card. I stayed adamant, that I wanted the full amount refunded as that was no something I had agreed to or ordered. They asked me to take my post off the Complaint Board. I told them that I would think about it once I had the full amount refunded. They did refund the full amount eventually after leaving post of Better Business Bureau. I copied the post and email the company and told them that I would hold them to it. Nearly $ 500.00 Canadian Dollars. Well worth the aggravation. I am glad I stuck to my guns, but do remember how terrible I felt and how defeated and betrayed. Do not sit idle, please and get pro active...
ABELLA MAYFAIR:
Is a SCAM - pure and simple - they are thieves!
They set out to steal your money by charging your CC without your authorization, outside the costs/postage for the two initial small sample products. Afterwards they steal additional monies by way of unauthorized access to one's CC and deducting additional funds from it. Complaining will not help, Banks/CC company will not help - for ABELLA MAYFAIR will a) will hide behind their so-called policy and b) simply cease to respond to any future emails/complaints.
Be aware of this scam purported by ABELLA MAYFAIR, eport them to your local BBB as well as to the RCMP. Also, since they have offices in the US, a copy of your complaint ought to be sent to the FBI, for if you ever received or sent an email to their US office, wire fraud could possibly be established.
So what happened with legal action? Because I am about to take legal action of my own.
What legal recourse do you have? I see your post is VERY recent, and I'd be interested in doing the same if my case isn't easily resolved through my credit card company.
same here, please include me to get $ 600 back.
any way? please include me.
Did you take legal action. How did it go. I am looking at doing the same. Any info you may have would be greatly appreciated.
I've been scammed as well - just discovered it today. Filed a complaint with BBB and my credit card company. For the time being it's being processed by VISA protection as a fraudulent charge, though I've been advised that if the company can come back with proof that I agreed to the terms I may be held liable for the charges. The company has offered me a courtesy $50 refund, though they are refusing to accept the return of any shipments. I received my first 'free' trial, and have had two sets of charges put through in the last 30 days, but have not yet received any shipments. What a complete and utter waste of time. In the meantime, my credit card has been cancelled and a new card/number will be issued. I'd LOVE to know if any class action law suits or RCMP investigations are current or on-going. I'd fully participate. The link I followed gave NO indication of a subscription. I have only been able to find their terms/policies by visiting the actual company website, which looked ENTIRELY different from the site I was on. I feel absolutely embarrassed that I've been caught in this. I am always diligent with online purchases.
Me too scammed by an ad on Facebook, looks like there's enough people been ripped off you'd think something would be done about it, I filed with BBB, next consumer affairs Canada, should look them up on BBB, it says it all
Yes you are not the only one Karen. I am certain that all the people on this complaint board here feel the same way! Mortified and violated, to say the least! I filed a complaint with fraud reporting on the government website, the BBB bureau and on this board here. Will phone the RCMP as well and also phone legal advise. I've been told by the company (Abella Mayfair) whether I read their terms and conditions. I cannot recall, that I agreed to anything accept the small charge for shipping. However what I do recall is that after I gave my CC no it took me through several pages, offering different skin care products or packages, which I am confident I checked with NO, as I was interested in purchasing a complete set or some Auto Receivership. I merely wanted a sample. Do not give up. I have been adamant with them and they agreed to reimburse the last two payments, except, all I needed to reply back was Yes, I agree, which I am leery to do as I do know what I will be agreeing to; besides my credit card is cancelled now.. This truly is fraud and I feel for everyone on this board, including myself, that fell for such fraudulent behavior and such SCAM ARTIST..
Forgot to tell you that I have also filed a complaint on the Fraud Reporting Website, a government website. RCMP informed me, that Fraud often goes undetected, and people can place a complaint with the above. I am certain if enough complaints come in something will happen with this company, unless they are completely untraceable.. Also I forgot to mention, that I've been advised, when not sure when ordering online one can purchase a CC from London Drugs, or surely other places, that might have a value of $ 50.00 on it. That way should fraud happen you might loose $ 50.00 or however much you pre pay, and not $ 600.00 like I did.
Why isn't something being done about this scam? I filed a complaint with BBB, then looked them up on the website, wow it's bad, F rating not associated with BBB, read what it says about them, it's crazy, these people should be jailed, file with consumer affairs too, maybe future victims can be prevented
Yes it surprises me, too, how they can and keep getting away with their tactics. Fraud Reporting, RCMP, BBB and spread the word, so people are aware of this and maybe other scams that are out there! Haven't heard of consumer affairs, but will check online... Thank You...
Me too. I have never been scammed in any way and feel quite embarrassed but I will say I do read the fine print and saw nothing to indicate any acceptance for receiving more products. My credit card company will do nothing (other than cancel/replace my card. I have also reported them to the BBB. I also see that amazon carries their product and I "chatted" with them online about the scam. Will contact RCMP tomorrow. So irritating and can also not afford about $600 by the time I noticed my bank statement online. (Several billings days apart.) horrible.
Yes Morgan I am not 100 % sure, but I think this is where the scam lies in. I am certain I did not click a box to indicate, that I would agree to any Terms and Conditions. However i do recall once I had given my information, that I took me through several pages, it offered different pages of product, which I intentionally checked off with a NO as I was not interested in purchasing anything, except the free Trial. Where do I begin to tell where this went wrong, for all of us on here, and the poor people, that continue to fall for this.. They (Abella Mayfair), or whoever these crooks are told me, once I had discovered the fraud, that I had 2 weeks to cancel this Auto Receivership. I was appalled and stunned as I did not think and know, that I signed up for anything like this at all, except a free sample. They even twist this by saying you do not sign up for a free sample, it is a free trial. I did receive two more of the supposed skin care sample, which was 0.5 fl. oz of the wrinkle cream. Probably not worth more than $ 5.00 I am certain of it, not the $ 600.00 I've been charged. I also told them that any reputable company has a money back guarantee, that extends 2 weeks. I told them I did not even have the sample by then, they told me of course, they would/could not be held responsible for the mail service or the slow processing of things. THAT IS JUST SO WRONG! I wish something else can/could be done about this, so we all get our money back. It's already enough to get the bruising of having to go through this whole experience, but also let other consumers know about this fraudulent behavior. It's just all around a terrible experience!
I feel painful too.
feel the same, hurt.
I feel really bad too. I never thought of being caught in this kind of trap. I don't shop online just worrying about this stuff. Still, it's intentional trick the Mayfair Abella has been playing. I have been charged about $ 600 through credit card since last month. Although I had requested my bank of credit card not to pay for the amount in the process of the dispute which I asked the bank right after finding the 1st charge on my bill. I am not sure if RBC will resolve the problem in the dispute.
I feel suffering experiencing this fraud. But rather feeling bad, I'd join any legal action to advocate for myself and fight for the rights. Please include me if anyone knows more about Canadian or USA laws and will facilitate the action. Please, don't feel embarrassed as victim. Mayfair Abella is the one who should be ashamed of itself and got punished, not us.
I can see that many people who usually do not fall for this kind of scam have been had. I am one of them. Reading about other people's experiences I feel less embarrassed.
Some other avenues of action that come to mind is to contact our local MP's, newspapers, or even better - for Canadian victims - CBC's 'the 5th estate' to look into it. THAT would get the word out!
I called the consumer protection bc just now, it does not help.
I filed complaint through BBB online. What else can I do? call RCMP?
I'm so sorry for your troubles. Just phoned RCMP as well. Call your credit card and perhaps they can help with dispute, somehow. RCMP gave me number to anti fraud center or file on line. I also placed complaint with BBB. And according to my complaint report the company has agreed to give me a full refund. I will believe it when I see it, but I was adamant and would not back down. And told them all the steps and complaints I have place on my behalf and their business practices. I was leery as Credit Card is already cancelled, but according to Credit Card Company they can still re-issue the money. Will post some more if I do end up getting the money back. Never thought about phoning consumer protection, but any step helps. I just kept e-mailing the company, or whoever these people are and told them that I think this is fraudulent and a scam and that I have filed complaints with higher authorities.. Will see what will happen. Will keep you posted. Yes it is us looking for a little something to feel better, because life or our situations currently are not the greatest and now to be having to deal with this is just beyond me. It's very jarring, painful, disappointing, shocking and disturbing. I feel very disturbed by this!
Thank you for your message! Glad to hear the company will refund you in full amount. I was told by credit card company to wait for 4 weeks to get result of dispute between the company and the RBC bank on my behalf. I had not paid for my bill since credit card company agreed to wait for the result. I hope this problem can be resolved, and no more person will be scammed. So I try best to spread this out, hoping to get more attention to the authority and the public.
I hope this all works out for you and you do not have to pay the money and/or that you will receive a refund also! Be patient and hang in there. I did not pay my credit card bill either! I hope a resolution will be found but mainly I hope there will be an end to Abella Mayfair. I would really like to know if there really was a Terms and Conditions button or page, that supposedly we all agreed to when purchasing the free sample. I hope the information about this spreads and no one else will be scammed out of money or be in a very undesirable situation.
I was just trapped by this same company. What should I do to have my money back?

After going through same charging to my credit card problems as the other posters, I filed complaints with Canadian Anti Fraud Centre and BBB of Ontario. With their help I have now received full refund of my $260+ fraudulent charges by Abella Mayfair. EVERYONE...FILE COMPLAINTS ... you will get your refunds
do you have contact info for both places ? I need to file complaint too, for exact same reasons
Abella Mayfair is MISrepresented as an anti-aging treatment that can promote a healthy appearance in your skin without the need for invasive injections or surgeries. It is meant to be used regularly through application to your face after washing and drying. The product is sold directly from the manufacturer, UNDER VARIOUS NAMES in a “trial and autoshipment” way – YOU PAY $3.95 to enroll in the program and receive a month’s supply of the product. YOU WILL THEN BE BILLED IN US FUNDS $99.95 per month and sent an additional month’s supply each month (BUT YOU WON'T GET ANYTHING AT ALL).
Check your ordered date, if it is not more than 30 days you can mail it back to them and asking for a full refund with the tracking number.
I was ripped off in the amount $1600-- as i was away in Florida for several months and they kept the shipments coming every month and charging app. $300 a month on my credit card.

yes please I am in if anyone starts a law suit from Canada
I got scammed almost 500$ from them, and they were boasting about all the charges when I tried to fix the situation and only thought it was one payment of over 100$.
I'm in Canada if there is any further action.
horrible product, evil company
I know the real location of their customer service. They are not really located in Canada #Fraud
In fact. They even change the name of their product. How interesting, they hired a customer service company in different country. Yet all of you knows that it was located in Canada
Spread the word these guys are scammers.
These guys must be stopped what a bunch of scammers.
Lets do it, we need to get in contact with each other soon to deal with these crooks.
I am in Quebec and been scammed for a big amount of money. I tried to call OPC (office de la protection du consommateur). They gave me advice, told me they received hundred of calls from this case. Anyone sure the compagny is in Canada ou is in USA ? if a group action is stratd, i will join. Just Can afford to loose so much money in an extremely tiight familial budget !
Nightmare Abella, , ,
I was charged $ 197.62 for Advanced Skin Serum and $ 183.35 for Skin Balance cream. This is how that happened.
I saw this news item that Drew Scott was leaving “The Property Brothers” along with his brother Jonathan and joining this company called Skin Balance. I trust these brothers and continued reading the article. Then I signed up for the trial offer. Nowhere did it say that this so called trial offer was the actual product OR that it was also a product with an auto ship as well.
I called the toll free number and spoke to a woman named Kelsey employee number 989521 and told her that I never signed up for this product, only the trial. Her attitude was not helpful at all. She was very curt and said basically too bad, you have to pay and there was no way I could have said I was not interested in any kind of auto ship product as it was nowhere on the website to choose this option. I explained that, had it been on the website that I would be charged this outrageous amount for these two – one ounce bottles of their product, which I would never have agreed to. Again her attitude was “too bad.” She was not in the least showing any concern for my upset and when I asked to speak to a higher authority in the company, she said she was the highest one in the company, so I asked if she was the owner and she said no and that there was no way I could speak to the owner ever. As there was nothing else I could do I hung up.
I got a call about 15 minutes later from [protected] and the woman never gave me her name and I was so upset I forgot to ask. Foolishly, I thought I was going to get some satisfaction, but to my dismay I only got this woman’s “robotic” responses that went like this in a monotone, “I’m so sorry you had that experience”. I told her about the fraudulent use of Drew Scott’s name and image and her response was again the robotic “I’m sorry etc”.
This company should be charged with fraud or extortion or something and closed down.
This was the first time I had ever done this kind of online trial and I have now learned a very expensive lesson and will never do this again. I just hope other people read this and learn from my mistake and save themselves much money and grief.
Hi we are from Australia and 2 weeks before Christmas 2017 my mum had nearly $300 taken out of her account she did however have a (suppose to be a free trial) but only pay postage of $4.95.. contacted the company and they won’t do anything also still never received anything... she is going to go and see a lawyer here in Australia. This is fraud at its biggest and this company needs to be stopped
This is a lot of crap and a huge scam. We unfortunately put our foot in it.
