American Jewel Window Systems
I replaced my windows two years ago (2006)with American Jewel Window Systems. 13 double hung windows, and 2 crank out windows ( I think the casements)
Admittedly, the window seemed good when they guy came out and presented to me. The numbers on it looked good, so we picked them out of the 4 other companies that came over.
After they installed it, I started noticing when I move the window it seems loose...on 2 of the windows, the sash doesn't stay up and when I open it; the sash is loose. The other day the locks on the window just broke...I have been calling them since January and the problem is still isn't fixed. I called them twice today a lone and all I got was a voice mail...
I don't even know what to do...they manufacture the window and won't even come out to fix it. I might have to take them to court.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.

In 2000, I had 6 American Jewel windows installed in my condo. This week I just had 8 American Jewel 3000 series installed. Three in my family room and 5 in my bedroom. They are much thicker than the previous windows, however, I am noticing a slight draft in the family room. Let me qualify this statement by saying it's been colder and windier (50 mph) than usual for the past 2 days. I've had to turn my heat 2 degrees above my normal setting with my older (inefficient windows). I'm hoping to see better gas bills for the rest of the winter and definitely the summer.
As to the #1700 installed in garage...I think you are mistaken about the model as that is a heavy duty foam filled extrusion and certainly could never be considered flimsy..question why would you put the top of the line american jewel model #1700 in your garage its an R-5 window...I had them in my last home and my wife misses her American Jewel windows she loved them. And i loved them my electric bill went from $350 a month average down to max $190...Of course I had installers that knew what they were doing that is important.
You can have the best product in the world ...if its not used properly. I am getting ready to buy my New house windows and was checking the pulse but thats my two sense.
Just FyI...I heard that Shuco windows were imported from China or something...
My neighbor Henry has the American jewel window. He complains all the time about them. The sills are warped and they are drafty is all I here. I might buy him new windows for Christmas just to shut him up. It's what he gets for being a cheapskate.
Sorry, Brian, but this is my only review also to date, and I must agree with Paul (but not as harsh). I had American Jewell 1700 series installed in garage and they were flimsy. They also looked like they warped over the summer. They were nice and offered replacements, but not to keen on chasing new windows every year. When I do my house another contractor is showing me Shuco (sp?). I hope those are better.
Has anyone else noticed that Paul W. only has one review on this site (the one here) and nothing else - no other activity? American Jewel Windows has no other complaints and they are A+ rated by the BBB.
I am a carpenter with my own business, pretty much a one-man operation. I have installed American Jewel windows in a dozen homes over the last 8 years. The windows are great quality and their customer service has been exceptional. They always pick up the phone and follow up immediately to any issues I have. As a matter of fact, I installed 16 windows last month in a home in Allendale, NJ. There was a manufacturing imperfection in one of the window grids: American Jewel sent someone out to the job site and repaired the window within a day. I have only good things to say about the company: I am not employed by them and I could buy my windows from anyone. I choose American Jewel because they have always stood behind their product, and their product is an excellent vinyl window with excellent insulating performance.
I am suspect of the complaint above. I have never called American Jewel during business hours and gotten voicemail.I always have gotten through to someone who either handles my needs or makes sure that I am connected with the right person to handle my needs.
I have American Jewel Windows in my home and there are no problems. We bought them about 3 years ago, also in 2006 and were pleased for aesthetic, easy cleaning and the tight seal compared to the old windows (steel casements).
What I don't understand about the other post is the comment that the "locks just broke" is that the locks are metal, you would have to be pretty strong to break them off or damage them.
Best of luck with your problem. Maybe a photo would help explain it.
