June 20, 2024 Rob Buhl showed up at my door stating he had gotten my information from Angies List. I hired him to do siding on fascia and soffett boards. I paid $5000 up front as he requested. I was told the materials would be here the next day. They weren't. After waiting a week and getting countless excuses as to why the materials weren't here, I asked for a refund of my money. He showed up the next day with materials. He said the job would be done in six days. Then said it would only take three days. After 30 days and the job still wasn't done I had to fire him. He is not knowledgeable as to how to do the job since he was observed looking on YouTube to see how it was to be done. I really thought Angie's list would vett these people a little more closely. I ended up having to hire another crew to finish the job as well as I had to buy more materials to get the job finished. My estimate had included the gable vent fans with were also never done. Also he had given another estimate the same day (June 20) to another customer As of July 19, that customer who had paid $3000 down still had not even gotten his materials.
Desired outcome: Take him off your list as a contractor. He doesn't know what hes doing and collecting money upfront and really dragging his feet to even start the jobs.

It sounds like you got a real "DIY disaster" rather than the professional service you were promised. Who knew you'd need to supervise your contractor's YouTube education?
Paying $5,000 upfront and then waiting endlessly for materials and work that never gets done is incredibly disappointing. It's a shame Angie's List didn't catch this before you got stuck with the mess. You'd think with all those five-star reviews floating around, they'd do a bit more homework!
It's unfortunate that you had to hire another crew and buy more materials to finish the job. At least you were able to move forward and get things sorted out. Let’s hope Angie's List takes this feedback seriously and tightens up their vetting process.
