Emergency Room Service May 25, 2022 - Dr. Kevin Macready
On the evening of May 25, 2022, I brought my 16 year old son, Tyler Swick, who has Primary Adrenal Insufficiency (Addison's Disease) to the ER, as he was complaining of multiple symptoms related to Adrenal Crisis. When I checked him in, we were told to sit and wait for triage, which we did for about 10 minutes. During that time, Tyler repeated that he needs fluids and IV medication immediately. I then went to the staff member at check-in and informed them of Tyler's letter, as well as a card from ped endo at JH Balto, giving instructions of what to do when in this situation... such as what medication to give, and the fact that it must be given immediately. The card indicates, "Any time spent in a waiting room or triage could result in death." I told multiple people, showed them the information from his DR, and even walked over to the doc on duty (Mcready) and their response was "we will get to him". Finally, after waiting for at least 35 minutes, having to embarrass my son my raising my voice, he was placed in a room. Even then, he still did not get treated right away. They TOOK BLOOD, and was waiting for the results to come back.. the doctor and nurse and assistant left the room without giving Tyler treatment. Also, I asked every AAMC employee I had contact with if they were educated on PAI, and not one of them ever heard of it.
I am extremely disappointed, and my son deserves better than what he got. Also I want to note.. I actually apologized for getting loud, but I want to change that stance.. I am not sorry. I should have got loud way sooner than I did. If anyone should have apologized, Kevin Macready is first, along with every other staff member I pleaded with that night. I waiting this long to write this because the words I would have used would not have represented me well. Even now, I am still angry, but I never want this to happen again to my child, or anyone else.
Desired outcome: I want an apology for my son.I want ER staff to be educated on illness like PAI, and to respond appropriately.
ER service
My wife had a severe allergic reaction. She has a history of severe allergic reactions. Her doctor instructed us to go to the ER immediately. We believed we could drive to the ER and not take an ambulance off the street.
When we arrived at the ER no one took us seriously. We had to call her doctor - he instructed me to administer the Epi pen. We advised the triage nurse and she said we could do whatever we wanted to do. I administered the Epi pen in the waiting room. Our doctor recommended that we walk to the parking lot to call and ambulance so she could see a doctor immediately. We did so. What a terrible waste of emergency resources.
Further, the triage nurse and attending receptionists were openly talking about a “tantrum” that my wife had. We understand the severity of her condition and were following her doctors urgent orders. She didn’t not have a tantrum - she was in the midst of a severe (documented) allergic reaction (in fact, she has been treated AAMC many times).
I am embarrassed for AAMC. The treatment we received was abhorrent.
Desired outcome: Immediate termination of respective employees. I will follow-up.
My husband was a patient in the er and seen by dr. Lapczynski on 6/18/22 at 2am on friday into saturday
At AAMC: My husband had pains in stomach and back , he was diagnosed with Constipation from the CT Scan that was taken, then sent home with prescriptions for constipation - the doctor did not even touch his stomach that was extended.
My husband was still in pain in stomach and back
My husband still in pain.
Had to go to another hospital - Doctors Community Hospital - Lanham from 6/21-6/24
Doctors Community Hospital - doctors determined that he had a condition called Ileus - the intestines in the bowel stop working, and for the back pain he had a pinch nerve or sciatica nerve.
Complaint against the doctor : Dr. Lapczynski for not being more attentive to my husband and his condition.
The Bill from AAMC should be waived, from lack of care
Thank you
Desired outcome: Complaint against the doctor : Dr. Lapczynski for not being more attentive to my husband and his condition. The Bill from AAMC should be refunded or waived, from lack of careI would like a response
The doctor at AAMC did not treat my husband's stomach pain, which was extended and was not taken care properly on 6/18/22
Had to go another hospital, because my husband was still in stomach pain and back
The other hospital said my husband had a condition call Ileus - intestines are blocked/stopped , causing the stomach to be extended and his back pain was from a pinch nerve/siactic.
I thought AAMC was a good hospital, but now having second thoughts.
Mean, abrasive , racial, discriminating behaviors
The older man tending the front desk 7/15/21 @9p then again @3p along with a young lady named Shanday on 7/16/2021 were absolutely hateful, rude, abrasive & displayed behaviors of being racist & discriminating. They seemed to get joy from other discomfort, I & my family had to endure such pathetic behavior while trying to visit my terminally ill twin brother .
Desired outcome: Reprimand those 2 people so those horrible behaviors to not have to be endured by anyone else
Awful treatment
I was seen in the ER 5 or 6 times for the same problem. I was have excruciating pain in my head with blurred vision. Each visit was the same, very poor care by all staff. One visit the doctor never even came into my room to talk to me. Another time the doctor told me to quit wasting ER doctors time. Another time I was treated by someone who wasn't even a doctor and when I had questions about my symptoms she just shrugged her shoulders and said, "well, I really don't know". I wasn't given any help or relief for my pain. I was treated like such a nuisance. The nurses have an all around bad attitude, no smiles, concern, and some even talk down to me like I'm an idiot. I finally went to see a neurologist and after getting the tests I needed to diagnose my problem I found out I have a fractured skull with spinal fluid leaking from my ears. Then recently my 72yo boyfriend woke up and his hand was very swollen and painful. I took him to the ER at AAMC. The only thing the doctors did was take some blood and then gave him an antibiotic. They never answered any of his questions or concerns or helped him to understand what was going on. When I met him at the ER entrance to pick him up he didn't have his shirt on. I asked him why his shirt was off he said the nurses wouldn't help him get dresses. I was so appalled. Two days later the swelling has moved up to his elbow and both hand and elbow are red and hot. He has also had a fever on and off. I called the ER and told the lady my concern. She advised me to bring him back in and when I asked her if he would receive some quality care this time she told me, "well I'm not a nurse so I can't tell you what kind of care he will receive". This hospital is a joke. I will never return for any type of care with this hospital again. AAMC has put both mine and my boyfriends life at risk. I don't know if they think we are drug seeking or what but the whole thing is a joke. I will definitely be seeking counsel on both these matters.
er and er psych unit
On November 14, 2018 into the 15th 2018, I came into the emergency room after over hearing something at home that devastated me to the core of my soul. I got an overnight bag ready and intended to go to a hotel in the area to think but on my way I felt my blood pressure going up and I felt light headed so I went straight to AAMC ER. I told the front desk that I thought I needed a consultation with a mental health professional. I was then called into triage and explained to the nurse what was going on, she asked me if I was suicidal and I said No, she asked me if I had a plan and I said No! I did say that I never ever wanted to go back home. And yes my blood pressure was high and at that time I was 64 years old. They took me back into an ER room and took all my information. Shortly after that a nurse came and gave me a sedative, I believe she said it was Ativan and she told me to try and rest until she figured out how she could help me. Around 3am on the 15th I see what appeared to be 2 police officers come into my Er room, I was very exhausted from stress and the sedative. They were security guards and they said they were there to take me to another room. They went through my purse and logged all of my belongings and took everything from me and wanted my underwear and I said no! They walked me to a lock down psych unit to a room with a mattress on the floor in a wooden frame. There was a television behind bars and a chair and that's it. The floor was very dirty, so I just laid perfectly still on the bed for hours and hours and hours. I think it was approximately 3 pm on the 15th that a mental health professional came into see me. I was at this point entirely to tired to talk but I told her as much as I could. I told her I would go home so they allowed me to leave. This was the most awful thing to do to a 64 year old traumatized women EVER! Hospitals are safe havens, right? No one and I mean no one should be treated like this during a crisis, drugs nor alcohol played any role in this what so ever. I would really just like an explanation
Ultrasound customer service
The ultrasound technician did not want my husband to be there with me during my transvaginal ultrasound. Extremely rude and unprofessional. Her name is Cherrel. I also need to say that the bathroom sprayed water 3 feet in the air and I had to walk through a giant puddle barefoot. Extremely negative experience. Unheard of here. These people need sensitivity training immediately.
Billing
Not only does a patient have to pay their Co-Pay to the Dotors that you visited / have appointment with at the Medical Offices of Anne Arundel Medical Center but Anne Arundel Medical Center also wants you to pay them (because the DR you visited has a office onsite) for being at their facility. Excuse me when was someone going to explain this to me? I would have gone elsewhere! I had taken care of my Co-Pays at the time of service and then I got another bill 3-5 months later from Anne Arundel Medical Center because they want their portion when I have explained that I already paid my Co-Pay at the time of service. ANNE ARUNDEL HAVE YOU LOST YOUR MINDS! Double dipping for funds? Health Care Reform must be killing you because you are killing me! Perhaps you should go non-profit! I pay out of pocket for my individual health care the cost of a car payment monthly. I pay at the time I receive service. I will be damned if I will pay a third time because my dotors office happens to be in the Wayson; Sajack or other building at Anne Arundel Medical Ctr . Perhaps the doctor will meet me outside in the parking lot? Have the DR pay Rent! It's their business I'm the consumer / costomer

No treatment
I went there with severe pain in my left ear, causing me to cry uncontrollably throughout the entire visit. My husband asked them if they could give me something for the pain while we waited, such as a painkiller, heat pad, or heated blanket. Their only response was "There are many people ahead of you, so you need to wait your turn."
It took more than five hours before I was seen and given a painkiller. The nurse took one look in my ear, gave me meds and a prescription, and sent me home. She didn't explain what had caused it, treatment options, and preventatives. I had pus mixed with blood leaking out of my ears! When she gave me the prescription, I asked her if it was the Amoxicillin that you can get for cheap at WalMart or Giant, and she said "yes." The Amoxicillin alone cost $70.
So...after several hours of severe pain, without any comfort or pain relievers for my ear, I was unable to afford the prescriptions, and wasn't even exactly sure what was wrong with my ear or how to care for it. Total waste of time. I'd rather die than go there again.
I take control of my health care and my kids by asking questions. When I worked in a clinic it didn't seem like people wanted to put forth any effort in getting better. They just wanted to walk in, and have the doc make it disappear. You have take control by doing research and asking questions to your health care providers. You need the antibiotics like KixStar said, it will only get worse. And by it getting worse your medical bills will only get higher. What happens if you go to the ER? Then you need to see a specialist, then surgery. Nip it in the bud now before it gets out of control. It's like oral care too, it's cheaper to by a tooth brush, toothpaste, and floss compared to thousands to get teeth replaced in the end.
If it's as bad of an infection as you're making it sound, you need to find a way to scrape up that $70. You could lose your hearing if the infection attacks your eardrum without that antibiotic.
Also, I used to live in Anne Arundel county, and there's a lot of people there. You can't expect to walk into a hospital without an appointment and immediately get seen by a doctor who isn't thinking about the other hundred people waiting for them.
Treatment of family in hospital
my husband was seen in the er with a tick imbedded we couldnt get out. it was a weekend and dr's office were closed. the nurse would not let me back with my husband. my husband is terrified of hospitals and wanted me to go back. as a nurse myself, i know the appropriate thing to do is let at least one person back. we were very dissatisfied with her attitude toward me. she said i couldnt go back b/c the room was too small...i am a nurse in triage and i know they dont make triage rooms small in case there is a code. i would rather take my husband to PG hosptial next time due to their rudeness.

I then call him to ask him to call it in he says rudly I'm too busy to call it in and hangs up on me he is a horable doctor
Hey Irish... I've seen several comments by you in the past few days talking about OP's mommy. Freudian complex much? :P
Maybe it's hospital policy to not let anyone back there?
