Great source of inexpensive used books
Over the years, as a school librarian, I have purchased upwards of 600 books from
BWB. To provide resources so that each child in a class could have a research book about a given topic, particularly in history and science, I relied on the great breadth of books available through BWB. My budget went much further and gave a "better bang for the buck." I would bring a box into a classroom anklet the children help unpack it, which added to their sense of adventure and excitement about each topic.
Now retired, I order book club books for myself and friends, as libraries cannot support the demand for many multiple copies, and paying retail prices is beyond the reach of a retiree. All in all, a treasure trove of good reading copies. They are not (or rarely ever) new.
Better World Books is awesome!
If possible, I buy all my books from Better World Books, and I purchase a lot of books! You can't beat the price, both of books and shipping (free!), plus you are supporting literacy programs. If there are problems with shipping or the condition of a book that is received, I have always received prompt service. I have now donated over 250 books to literacy programs through my purchases! My passion is wildlife and natural history and thanks to BWB's great prices, I've created a wonderful personal reference library. Also, I live in Colorado, in an area with abundant wildlife, and am on a local committee that works to educate our community on its importance. We just purchased 100 books from BWB to made a small lending library for all ages on books that educate us on the wildlife!

Definitely worth a try!
I was quite reluctant to purchase a book after reading so many negative reviews, but since my book was only 3 pounds, I thought its worth a try.
I was a bit nervous while waiting for their email saying my book is dispatched, as many people complained about receiving it a month after their purchase (especially since I live in Denmark, and the book would come from the States), but sure enough... 3 days after I ordered the book, the email came. And then came another telling me more about my book and its history, which was quite sweet.
The book just arrived - 10 days after I purchased it and it is in excellent condition. I am surprised a library book is so well-preserved! Yes, one of the corners is a bit folded at the very end, and there is a small library sticker on the side, but other than that it looks brand new!
If you are hesitant to try, maybe purchase a cheaper book like me to see how it all goes.
Looking Like the Enemy
My deceased mother-in-law's friend is the author of this book. My mother-in-law used to tell me stories of the times in the internment camps and how you could get out... become a nurse if you were a women was one of the ways. I told her she should write a book and she said her friend already did and told me the name of the book. She met the author of this book in nursing school Even though there is a large Japanese American population in that area, the local library had to order it from Bend Oregon. I actually helped a WWII Bomber Pilot write his second book, but his first book was Wings and Tracks about how he was blinded in a fiery crash, picked up by the German's and his newly wed wife and dad knew he was still alive through their faith in God even though the Army Airforce told them he was dead. He passed away a couple of years ago at 95 shortly after his 78th anniversary with his bride as he called her. I wish other people couple read this book as well. Wings and Tracks by David Childs..
Love it
Found an out-of-print HB astronomy book I loved in 5th grade (I'm 71)! Author (James L. Pickering) wasn't even on Wikipedia, but there's a Pickering who was an astrophysicist--I'm guessing a son. Plus I love the idea of recycling books to school systems/libraries in need.
I just found out (via investigative report in "The Nation" that Bill Gates, whom I thought was such a good guy, is trying to destroy public education--this is right out of the Trump/Mercer/Koch Bros playbook. "Let private charities support the schools"; & "I don't want MY taxes educating other peoples' kids (i. E. exposing them to dangerous ideas like evolution & critical thinking)".
Plus, let's give poor kids IPads in kindergarten--"You need them to keep up w/ the rich kids on the other side of town." Did you know that NONE of the SiVa billionaires lets their kids have screens until they're like 10? THEY know the brain/emotional damage 7 hours a day watching a screen can do to growing minds.
So keep those books out of the landfills, and FIVE CHEERS FOR BWB!
I ordered 3 books on 1/15/21 & received them free shipping on 1/22/21 although the books were listed as "used good" all
I ordered 3 books on 1/15/21 & received them free shipping on 1/22/21 although the books were listed as "used good" all 3 R N perfect condition no creased or messy pages or covers. This was an exceptional bargain. It's my first time 2 order from Better World Books but it certainly will not B the last. The prices were much cheaper than all the other company's that offered this series & the quality couldn't B better.
I recently purchased a psychology book and a discrete math book from Better World Books at an incredible price
I recently purchased a psychology book and a discrete math book from Better World Books at an incredible price. The books were listed as used, but they were in such excellent condition that they looked brand new. There were no marks or smudges on either book. I am extremely satisfied with the quality of the books and wanted to share my positive experience. The total cost of my purchase was just under 12 dollars after applying a coupon from a website. The delivery was fast and the prices were great. I will definitely be using Better World Books again in the near future. Overall, I highly recommend them for their affordable prices, high-quality books, and prompt shipping.
Poor Shipping and Customer Service Experience with Better World Books
I bought two books from Better World Books on June 3rd and got an email two days later that they were shipped. They went from IN to OH to NC (where I am) within a few days. The tracking said it arrived at the shipping partner on June 8th (which is about 60 miles from where I live). But then, nothing! No movement (at least on the tracking) and the USPS tracking number seems to be fake. USPS told me that they haven't received the package yet. It has been sitting in that shipping facility for 13 days! I could have driven there to pick it up myself if I had known. This is assuming it's really there and not lost, or worse yet, never really sent there at all. I don't understand why it has been sitting so close to its destination for that long. Their customer service keeps giving me the run-around and refuses to contact the crappy shipping company to see what the hold-up is. I ordered from them in the past and have always had a good experience. But something has happened with this company in the last couple of years. I don't expect them to stay in business much longer with this kind of practices. GOOD RIDDANCE!
Better World Books: The Best Alternative to Amazon for Affordable and Diverse Book Selections
I gotta say, this pandemic has really made me miss going to the library and bookstore. But thankfully, I stumbled upon an article on Facebook that my friend shared about Better World Books, and it's been a game changer for me.
I used to rely on Amazon for all my book needs, but after trying out a few of the alternatives suggested in the article, I have to say that Better World Books is the best. The prices are unbeatable, seriously. I've found so many used books listed at $3.98 or around that price point, and there are always sales and promotions going on that make the deals even sweeter.
And the selection? It's amazing. I've found so many books that I've been wanting to read for ages, and they're all available on Better World Books. The delivery is pretty fast too, considering the pandemic has caused some complications.
The only thing that I'm not too thrilled about is that some items don't have pictures, or the picture doesn't match the actual item being purchased. I'm a stickler for book covers, so it's important to me to know exactly what I'm getting.
But overall, I'm really happy with my experience on Better World Books. I've even shared the URL with my friends on Facebook, and they probably think I'm getting paid for promoting it, but I swear I'm not! I just really love this site and think it's a great alternative to Amazon.
Mixed Feelings About Better World Books: Great Deals, But Room for Improvement
Been shopping with Better World Books for a while now, and I gotta say, they've got some pretty sweet deals. I mean, who doesn't love a good bargain, am I right? And their book descriptions are usually on point, so you know what you're getting.
But, I gotta be real with y'all, there are a few things that could use some improvement:
First off, my last order was a bit of a letdown. I ordered a book that was supposed to be in "Good" condition, but when I got it, it was more like "Acceptable" with all the highlighting and writing throughout. Not exactly what I was hoping for.
Secondly, they really need to step up their shipping game. I get that they're trying to save some money, but come on, don't be so stingy with the packaging! They crammed way too many books into one envelope, and now one of my books is all bent out of shape. Not cool, man.
And don't even get me started on their Rewards program. The codes expire way too quickly, and even when they're supposed to be good for a whole year, they always seem to magically expire when I try to use them. And when I reached out to customer service for help, they were about as useful as a screen door on a submarine.
All that being said, I'm not ready to give up on Better World Books just yet. I'll probably still shop with them from time to time, but I might start looking for other options or hitting up my local bookstore more often.
UPDATE: So, I reached out to customer service about my book troubles, and they actually refunded me the cost of the books! I gotta give credit where credit is due, so I'm bumping up my rating to 5 stars. Thanks, Better World Books!
Better Books Delivers Quality Service and Excellent Condition Used Books
I just gotta say, I was a bit unsure about Better Books at first. But I took a chance and ordered a book for only $4.26. And let me tell you, I was pleasantly surprised! The ordering process was super easy and quick. They let me know right away that they got my order. And the book arrived just when they said it would.
Now, I gotta admit, I was a bit worried about the condition of the book since it was used. But when I opened the package, I was blown away! The book looked like it was brand new! The binder was still in one piece, the pages weren't all messed up, and there weren't any scribbles or marks on the cover or pages. It was in excellent shape!
And you know what else I liked? They kept me in the loop about when the book was shipped and when it arrived. That's some good communication right there.
Overall, I'm really happy with my purchase and my experience with Better Books. I'd definitely order from them again. I just hope they keep up the good work and keep delivering quality service. And hey, if you're thinking about ordering from them, don't be afraid to give them a try! I think they're a reputable company and worth your business. I'm totally satisfied!
Everyone leaving comment is exactly what Ive experienced, I had to cancel my credit card, and charged for services NEVER received, ALSO- I NEVER SIGNED ANYTHING ELECTRONICALLY AGREEING TO PAYMENT OF ANY KIND ! and since paying the $3.94 (or More -Ive still yet to see if I was scammed out of more and if so there will be legal action taken )Ive been having weird contacts via text from out of state numbers with familiar last names - being baited to use this service !Scam !
I learned after two email responses that Intelius and Instantcheckmate are the same company. They replied to me at the same time with the same ema *** for ***. They signed representative on both emails were the exact same. So why pay for both sites when you are infact the same company. This is disheartening to see as you hold people's public information. To all out there DO NOT PAY this company.
Advertised in the *** search as find people free once you click, add a name the search begin not only name now criminal, property, address, exc. Goes on do not use for any other reason, how much data is collected, in other words they hype you up to think youre getting all this information free and now. Then they hit you with get it now enter name email address then credit card info You get nothing without payment. They use several website names Very deceiving! They are the very ones charging
The site is very deceiving. It offers a 14 day trial for 99 cents. I needed to check one phone number and that seemed reasonable. I got the information after paying and thought nothing more. What they do not say outright is that you've signed up for a monthly membership for $35 that you need to cancel to keep from being charged after *** the small print at the bottom of the invoice.Never again
Disappointing Service from Better World Books: A Review
I've been using Better World Books for my book purchases this year and I have to say, I'm not impressed with their service. I've had three experiences with them so far and all three have been pretty bad.
The first time I ordered, I received books that were supposed to be in "like new" or "very good" condition, but they were actually pretty beat up. It was disappointing to receive books that were not as described. They did offer a refund and apologized, but it still left a bad taste in my mouth.
The second time I ordered, I took a break of about four or five months before making another purchase. When I received my order, I was shocked to find that they had sent me the wrong books. I had ordered three specific books, but they sent me three completely random books that were clearly meant for someone else. I contacted them to rectify the situation, but their apology was lackluster and they only offered a refund. By the time I received the refund, the books I wanted were out of stock.
It's really disappointing because my first experience with them was great. I thought they were a reliable and trustworthy platform for buying books. But now, I can't help but feel like they're just a cheap scam artist in disguise. It's a shame because I really wanted to support their mission of promoting literacy and sustainability.
Disappointing Experience with BetterWorldBooks: Lowered Standards and Poor Customer Service
I've been buying books from betterworldbooks for a long time now. At first, I thought they were great. Their prices were good, their customer service was helpful, and the books were in good condition. But over time, things started to change. I started receiving books that were in much worse condition than they were listed as. And the deliveries always took longer than they were supposed to. It was frustrating.
One time, I even had a problem with a staff member who tried to blame me for the poor condition of a book I received. I had photographic evidence that the book was in bad shape, but they still tried to dodge responsibility. It was clear that they didn't value their customers, only their money.
On my last purchase, I received a book that was listed as "used-good," but the inside covers were stained dark yellow, as if someone had peed on them. It was disgusting. I couldn't believe they would send me a book in that condition.
Overall, I've been really disappointed with betterworldbooks lately. Their standards have really gone downhill, and I won't be buying from them again. There are plenty of other online used book sellers who do a better job and have higher standards for their books.
If you're currently a customer of betterworldbooks, I would urge you to check the condition of the books you receive against their book condition standards. Based on my experiences, it seems like they don't expect you to do this. So be careful.
In conclusion, I would recommend avoiding betterworldbooks. There are better options out there for buying used books online.
Better World Books Misrepresents Book Condition - Avoid Them!
I recently ordered a book from Better World Books, hoping to add it to my collection. I was disappointed to receive an Ex-Library book with stickers on the spine and stamps inside. The binding was loose, the book heavily used and the condition could be listed as Fair, if it hadn't been Ex Library. Better World Books clearly misrepresented the condition of this book. I have sold used books before and know how the condition code works. You can only choose one from: New, Very Good, Good, Fair, and Ex-Library. It's like your age. You only get to choose one. You can't be 40 and 16. The whole industry agrees on this. My receipt even says Condition: Very Good.
Their customer service sent me a canned response of "We work with many libraries who send their overstocked books or old editions for us to sell. The libraries then select a local charity or one of our literacy partners to receive a portion of the proceeds, in addition to earning funds for their own programs." So they justify misrepresenting book condition by using words like "charity" and "literacy partners". They were not apologetic at all, just send it back if you don't like it. You know they are just going to list it again as Very Good and fool the next customer. It sounds like all their books are Ex Library.
I was disappointed with the service I received from Better World Books. They are hustlers who misrepresent the condition of their books. I would advise others to avoid them and find a more reliable source for their reading material.
Better World Books: A Book Lover's Dream and a World Changer's Haven
Hey, so I just got my hands on my first book from Better World Books and I gotta say, I'm impressed! I ordered Dandelion Wine by Ray Bradbury and it arrived in great condition. The yellow pages and that old library smell just make me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. I wouldn't even mind if there were some notes scribbled on the pages, it would just make me feel like I'm part of a community of book lovers who have appreciated the same words before me.
But what really blew me away was the email my book sent me before it was shipped out. Yeah, you heard that right, my book sent me an email! It was so cool to feel connected to my book even before I held it in my hands. It's little things like that which make me appreciate Better World Books even more.
And let's talk about their mission to donate a book to someone in need every time someone buys a book from them. That's just amazing! It makes me feel like I'm making a difference in the world, even if it's just a small one. I'm definitely going to be buying more books from them in the future.
So, if you're looking for a place to buy books that not only cares about their customers but also about making the world a better place, then Better World Books is the place for you. Trust me, you won't be disappointed!
Better World Books: Great Mission, Poor Customer Service
I've been buying books from Better World Books for a while now, and I gotta say, their mission is pretty cool. I've bought books for myself and for my friends, and I've always been happy with the quality of the books and how fast they get to me.
But here's the thing: any company can ship books and describe them accurately. That's just basic stuff. What really matters is how they treat their customers. And that's where Better World Books falls short, in my opinion.
Whenever I've had a problem or a concern, they just brush it off like it's no big deal. It's like they don't care about their customers at all. And I think I've figured out why: they only want positive reviews. After every purchase, they ask you to rate your experience. When I gave them a bad review, they stopped asking me altogether. That's not how you run a business.
I believe that honest criticism is important. It helps companies improve and avoid becoming mediocre. But in this "Better World," they don't seem to care about that. If you don't have something nice to say, they don't want to hear it. That seems pretty messed up to me.
I know that publishing and censorship are usually enemies, but in this case, it feels like Better World Books is censoring me. If I can't say what I really think, then what's the point of having a review system at all? It's like something out of a dystopian novel.
Overall, I still like buying books from Better World Books. But I wish they would listen to their customers more and care about what we have to say.
Better World Books Complaints 22
Shipping Problems
I have used BWB many times in the past, but not for the past year or so--and apparently their shipping policy has changed. I ordered a book and (as always) checked "standard mail" as the shipping method. But they are not sending it via US mail! I've been waiting for the book for 17 days, and have been told I will need to wait for another week to claim a refund. Why is it taking so long? Because they are not actually shipping this via "standard mail," as they said they would. They're using a third-rate bulk shipper called BestWay Parcel. And the kicker is, they berate me for "choosing" this method of shipping: I chose it so, they say, I should suck it up when my book takes 25 days to arrive. However, what I chose was "Standard MAIL." Apparently "Standard Mail" is the following: "Our Standard Shipping provider is BestWay Parcel. Shipments are trucked in bulk to a nearby sorting facility, where they are sorted and sent to a regional processing facility closer to your destination. From the regional facility, the package is sent to your local USPS office, where your carrier will deliver it to the address on your order." Since when is that "Standard Mail? Don't use this vendor unless you want to wait a month for your book to arrive.
Better than what?
I have purchased dozens and dozens of books from this site, both for personal use and as gifts. Their stated mission is admirable.
It is no arduous chore for any merchant to accurately describe their wares and ship them securely & promptly. Where is the excellence in that? That's just the sine qua non. Hardly the grounds for rave reviews
What sets any business apart is how they manage to treat customers as valued patrons, and not simply some purchase order a with means to pay.
This is where I have found, lamentably, that this 'Better World' starts to crumble. Present them with a concern that challenges their routine and, like Rand's Atlas, they shrug it off.
Quite coincidentally, I think I've discovered their strategy for inflating their customer service satisfaction ratings. At the completion of every purchase (I have placed 4 orders so far this week alone totalling more than 20 books), a pop-up survey appears soliciting your kind words. Given my unsatisfactory experience, I registered a couple of critical reviews. And now the pop-up queries have stopped appearing!
Honest criticism helps us avoid a precipitous slide towards mediocrity... and worse. But in this 'Brave New...', excuse me, 'Better World' that's not the business model.
Publishing and censorship are traditionally foes. In this 'Better World', however, if you can't say flattering things, you are deprived of a voice. Sounds a mite dystopic, don't you think? Or am I just being criminally critical?
I bought 10 books directly from this company's online store
I bought 10 books directly from this company's online store. When I received the items late, I immediately noticed a musty smell coming from the box. All of the books had significant tears, damages, stickers, stamps, old library cards still inside them, and were missing covers and sleeves. In fact, many of the books were marked as "DISCARD" because they were in such bad condition, even for a public library. The books were listed as being in very good condition or better, with no mention of these major defects. Additionally, 6 out of the 10 books shown in the images they used to sell me were of newer editions, prints, and better series than what they actually sent me. Several books were shown with covers and sleeves, but they arrived without any of that and had stained inner covers with library stamps on all sides. I tried to remove the excessive stickers, barcodes, and library cards, but I couldn't improve their condition. Then I discovered that BetterWorldBooks does not have a contact feature through their app. There is no messaging, email, or phone call option. So I searched for their website and contacted them there. It took them 3 days to respond, even though I had provided my full name and order number. They still asked me for my full name, order number, order date, cost of each item, total cost, ISBN number for each title, and name of each title. They asked for excessive proof, and when I sent it, they took days to respond and asked for more. They also added more requirements and made it nearly impossible to "return the items". They even threatened that if anything was wrong with the transaction, they wouldn't refund me or reimburse my shipping costs. I have filed several complaints with ComplaintsBoard.com and now here. BetterWorldBooks should, at the very least, refund me for the 6 titles they falsely advertised and, in reality, all 10 books since they were all in terrible condition. I don't want to spend any more time on countless emails, photos, research, and providing "proof". Everything is documented in the correspondence with their employee "Mellissa". They should also provide a phone number and stop lying to customers.
I purchased three large print stations of the cross booklets, they sent me one correct booklet and two incorrect ones. When I told them about it, they told me they go by the ISBN number, and they sent the correct books according to the ISBN number. I told them that I didn't order by the number, I ordered by description. Besides, I ordered three of the same book, yet all three books they sent had different numbers, only one is correct They still refuse to acknowledge their mistake. I asked them if they had other copy's of the correct book, and they refuse to acknowledge my question. I want to get at least two of the correct item that I ordered, not their substitute. Thank you.

Mixed Experience with Better World Books: Great Prices and Selection, but Issues with Audio Books
I gotta say, I was pretty impressed with Better World Books. The prices were seriously amazing, and they had a huge selection of titles to choose from. I was able to find some children's books that my grandson absolutely loved, and my husband was stoked with his picks too.
The books arrived in a decent amount of time, which was great. But here's the thing - I ordered a bunch of Audio books on CDs because I have some vision issues that make it hard for me to read print. When I was placing my order, I made sure to select the Audio versions of the books I wanted, and I double-checked that they were in my cart as Audio books. But when my order arrived, not a single one of the Audio books I had ordered was included. They were all print books.
I was pretty bummed about this, especially since I had paid for the Audio versions and was really looking forward to listening to them. And when I looked at other reviews, I saw that I wasn't the only one who had this problem. Honestly, I'm not sure if I'll order from Better World Books again. It's too bad, because they do have some great deals, but if I can't trust that I'll actually get what I ordered, it's not worth it.
Overall, I guess you get what you pay for. But I do wish that Better World Books had been more careful with my order and made sure to send me the Audio books I had paid for.
Disappointed with Decline in Quality and Customer Service at Better World Books
I've been a loyal customer of Better World Books for many moons now. However, I've noticed a significant decline in the quality of my orders over the past year. I always make sure to select books that are listed as "very good" or "like new" condition, but I've received books with black marker scribbled all over the cover and bent front covers, among other issues. It's a real bummer, man.
Don't get me wrong, BWB has been responsive and issued refunds when I've brought these issues to their attention. But it's a real drag when it happens over and over again. To make matters worse, the books are sent in packaging with no protection whatsoever. They're just stuffed into envelopes, which causes even more damage. It's like they don't even care about the books they're selling.
I don't want to have to spend my precious time messaging with them every time I place an order. It's a real hassle, you know? And now the rewards program doesn't even work for me. I've been going back and forth with them for a whole week and nothing has been resolved. It's just not worth my time anymore.
The quality of their books continues to go way down, and there's no efficient way to deal with problems. It's like they're stuck in the Stone Age or something. I'm really disappointed, man. I used to love BWB, but now I'm not so sure.
Disappointing Experience with Better World Books: Unfulfilled Order and Pushy Review Request
I gotta say, I had a pretty bad experience with Better World Books. I was looking for a specific book and found it on their website for a pretty good price. I went ahead and made the purchase, but shortly after I got an email from them saying that their supplier couldn't provide the book. I mean, come on, I was buying it new so why couldn't they supply it? It was a bit frustrating, but I ended up finding the book elsewhere.
What really got me was that almost two months later, they sent me an email asking for a positive review about my order. It was like they didn't even remember that they couldn't fulfill my order in the first place. It just seemed like the right hand didn't know what the left was doing.
I will say that their prices are slightly lower than other sellers, but you really don't know if you're going to get your book or not. And they had no problem charging me right away, even though they couldn't fulfill my order. It just seems a bit shady to me.
I have a feeling that they might be some kind of third-party seller, advertising a certain price and then making up excuses when they can't meet it. I mean, why sell new books if you can't even fulfill the order? It just doesn't make sense.
Overall, I wouldn't recommend Better World Books. It's just not worth the hassle and uncertainty.
Disappointing Experience with Better World Books: Missing Book and Canceled Order
I recently bought two books from Better World Books, hoping to take advantage of a promo discount. When my order finally arrived, I was disappointed to find that only one of the books had been delivered. At first, I thought that the books had been shipped separately, as this has happened to me before when dealing with this company. However, as the days went by and I still hadn't received the missing book, I decided to check my order status again. To my surprise, I found that one of my books had been canceled, even though I had not canceled it myself. I had to request a refund for the missing book, which was not automatically given to me even though the book had been canceled. When I asked why the book had been canceled, I was told that it was due to poor condition, even though I have received books in pretty rough shape before (such as ex-library books).
Unfortunately, this is not the first time in the past few months that Better World Books has messed up my orders. I am hesitant to purchase anything from them again until they get their act together. As a result, I cannot recommend them at this time.
Mixed Experience with Better World Books for Series Orders
I gotta say, I usually only order one book at a time, so I ain't got much experience with this company. But the one time I did order a whole series of books, things didn't go so smoothly. The first volume I got was a completely different book! I mean, what the heck? So I reached out to them to fix the problem, but they told me they couldn't do nothing about it. They said they didn't have any more of that book in stock, but how could that be when they never even sent it to me in the first place? It was a real bummer, let me tell ya. I had to go and order the book I needed from some other place, which was a real hassle.
Now, I ain't gonna lie, Better World Books did give me my money back for the book they sent wrong. So that's something, I guess. But I would have much rather just done business with one company instead of having to go to two different places.
Overall, I'd say my experience with Better World Books is just okay. They ain't the worst, but they ain't the best either. If you're only ordering one book at a time, you'll probably be alright. But if you're looking to order a whole series or something, you might wanna look elsewhere.
Disappointed with Better World Books: No Tracking, Order Changes, and Possible Scam?
I gotta say, I'm pretty disappointed with my experience with Better World Books. I placed an order for three books way back on October 1st, 2021, and it's now been over two months and I still haven't received my order. Honestly, I'm starting to think this whole thing might be a scam.
One of the biggest issues I have with Better World Books is that they don't offer any tracking numbers for their orders. I mean, seriously, how am I supposed to know where my books are or when they're going to arrive? All I have is an order number, which doesn't really help me much when I need to go to the post office and ask about my shipment.
To make matters worse, the status of my order has changed since I first placed it. Originally, one of the books was supposed to be shipped from the UK, but now it looks like all of them are coming from the US. And to top it all off, the website now says that I only ordered two books instead of three. What's up with that?
I do have to give credit where credit is due, though. Better World Books does have pretty good customer service. I've been emailing back and forth with them, and they've been pretty responsive and helpful. But still, I can't help but feel like something fishy is going on here.
One thing that really bothers me is that all of the reviews on the Better World Books website are from their own customers. I mean, come on, that's not exactly an unbiased source of information, is it? I'd much rather see reviews from an independent website to get a better sense of what other people's experiences have been like.
All in all, I'm not super impressed with Better World Books. I'm still holding out hope that my books will eventually arrive, but at this point, I'm not holding my breath.
Disappointed with Better World Books' Shipping Time - Paid for Faster Shipping, Still Waiting After a Week
I recently ordered some books from Better World Books, and I have to say, I was pretty disappointed with the shipping. I mean, I get it, things happen, but come on! I paid extra for faster shipping, and it's been almost a week and still no books. The website said it would be 2-3 days, but now they're saying it could be up to 6 days. What a joke! If I had known it would take this long, I wouldn't have bothered with the quick shipping.
I'm a teacher, and I buy a lot of books for my students. We're always learning about new things, and I like to have a variety of books on hand to help them explore different topics. But when I need books for a specific event, I need them to arrive on time. I can't wait around for a week, hoping they'll show up eventually.
I have to say, I'm pretty disappointed with Better World Books. The prices are good, but if they can't get the books out the door in a timely manner, what's the point? And paying extra for quick shipping, only to have it take just as long as regular shipping? That's just ridiculous.
I don't think I'll be doing business with Better World Books again. There are plenty of other places to buy books online, and I don't have time to waste waiting around for them to arrive. If they can't get their act together and improve their shipping times, they're going to lose a lot of customers.
Poor Customer Service and Unreasonable Excuse for Delayed Delivery from Better World Books
I recently made a purchase of two books on Syntax and Semantics from Better World Books (order #***). I was eagerly waiting for my books to arrive, but after several months, they still hadn't shown up. I was starting to get worried that my books had gotten lost in the mail, so I decided to contact the company to inquire about my order.
To my disappointment, I was informed that my items had not arrived because over 60 business days had passed. I found this to be an unreasonable excuse, as it is quite normal for items to take longer than two months to arrive at international destinations. I explained this to the customer service representative, but they were unable to help me and simply apologized for the inconvenience.
I was frustrated with the response I received from Better World Books, as it seemed like they were fully aware that a paying customer had not received their items and had no intention of doing anything about it. While I appreciate their apology, it doesn't change the fact that I still don't have my books.
Overall, I would caution anyone considering doing business with Better World Books to think long and hard before making a purchase. While they may have a good selection of books and a seemingly noble mission to promote literacy, their customer service leaves much to be desired. If you're looking for a reliable and trustworthy online bookseller, I would recommend looking elsewhere.
Fast Delivery and Great Condition: My Review of Better World Books
I gotta say, I was pretty stoked when my order of 8 books from Better World Books showed up at my door. And get this - they arrived even faster than they said they would! That's what I call service, folks.
Now, I'm a bit of a collector myself. I've got over 7,000 cookbooks in my personal library, and let me tell you, I'm always on the lookout for more. So I spend a lot of time scouring the internet for the best deals and the best copies of the books I'm after. And when I stumbled upon Better World Books, I was pretty impressed with what I saw.
First off, the books I ordered were in great condition. And that's a big deal for me, because I don't want to waste my time and money on books that are all beat up and falling apart. So I was really happy to see that the books I got were just as described on the website.
But here's the thing - the website could use a little work. Don't get me wrong, it's a good site and all, but it could be better. For one thing, there's no way to filter or sort the search results beyond the basic categories. And when you're dealing with potentially dozens of copies of the same book, that can make it really hard to find the one you want.
I mean, I place a ton of orders with Better World Books every year, and I buy hundreds of books. But if they don't add some more filtering and sorting options to their site, I might have to start looking elsewhere. It's just too frustrating to deal with the limited options they have right now.
All in all, though, I'm pretty happy with Better World Books. They've got a great selection of books, their prices are reasonable, and their delivery is fast. If they can just make a few tweaks to their website, they'll be perfect.
Avoid Better World Books: Terrible Delivery and Customer Service
I gotta say, I've been waiting for my order from Better World Books for over a month now and it's been a real hassle. I chose them specifically because of their delivery dates, but they kept changing them on me and now they won't even give me a refund. I've lost 55 bucks and a whole lot of time dealing with their customer service. And let me tell you, they weren't exactly the friendliest folks to deal with. They basically told me that if their delivery time didn't work for me, I shouldn't have placed the order in the first place. But how was I supposed to know when it would arrive if they couldn't even give me a date?
I'm not the only one who's had issues with these guys. I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and it turns out I'm not the first. I'm really hoping I can get my money back, but even if I do, I've wasted so much time trying to get them to follow the Internet Order Merchandise Rule. Time is money, you know?
Anyway, I just wanted to warn you all about my experience. I wouldn't recommend going with Better World Books. They're a bunch of fraudsters if you ask me.
where are my books?
As I can see I am not the only one with the same problem.
I ordered two books four weeks ago and there's still no response from them. First of all, they had to send me a confirmation email and some information about my order. I called them to find out whether my order was sent or not, they said that yes, it was and speaking of not receiving the confirmation email - well, it was a system error. That's what they said. They told me, that I would have to wait for 8-9 business days for my books to arrive. So it's been almost a month and I wonder where they are.
That's all I want to know. All of a sudden they started ignoring my requests and I can't get in touch with them now. Scammers behavior, but I hope they are not...
Wrong book
Hello. I've purchased a book from this website and it took them forever to deliver my order. When I finally receive the book I was very disappointed because it wasn't the one I've ordered. I contacted customer service via email and sent them a picture and asked for a replacement, but received no reply. They finally replied about two weeks later and said that it wasn't possible because my book was already sold out. They said that they were very sorry and asked me to keep the book. What a joke. Do not order anything from BetterWorldBooks!
Did not receive the book
I have ordered a book from www.betterworldbooks.com and it was sent via USPS and I was given a tracking number.
When the estimated delivery date came I received nothing so I contacted BetterWorldBooks customer service to see what was going on and they said that I need to call USPS to get more detailed information.
So I called USPS and they said that they did not get any packages from BetterWorldBooks! Later I also found out that they tracking number was fake.
I'll never deal with this terrible company ever again!

Problems with delivery and stupid staff
I ordered three books from the website www.betterworldbooks.com. I needed them for my studies and the seller promised to deliver it within a week. I waited a month, and the order hasn’t been delivered. I contacted the customer services and told to cancel my order. The rep told me that it was cancelled. He promised that money would be returned within 3 days. I haven’t got my money back and books as well. The rep from the customer services only gave me stupid and empty promises. Please leave comments about your experience with this seller.
I have made several book purchases from this Online Bookseller and I have No complaints. There were a few discrepancies with some purchases, but they were Quickly & Effeciantly "Made Right" by their customer service people.
Horrible
Let me tell you about my recent purchase-ordered a set of three books in a slip case, paid 3.99 for gift wrapping and sent a request to have the set mailed in a cardboard box. Guess what?
1)st of all-got only one of the three volumes! Are you'all STUPID? The title reads: "THREE VOLUMES IN A SLIP CASE"
yet they only sent vol.1...I would think they hire 12 year old kids to do their packaging but even then-12 year olds know how to read; when title says "3 volumes" even a kid would think it's gotta be 3 books, right?
2)I chose the option of and was charged 3.99 for gift wrap: no gift wrap, again thanks for uuuuh, NOTHING.
3)The usal flimpsy 0.1mm plastic wrap/envelope. This is the reason I stopped ordering from "better..." because they are WORSE, duh. Even if you buy a 5-6 lbs heavy textbook they'll mail it in a plastic envelope. Plactic, that is correct, like a plastic bag at a grocery store, NOT even padded. Hate to say that again but, ARE YOU STUPID? what happens to the corners and the spine/binding once the post office goofs start using logistics as practice targets? Oh okay, they save 60 cents when not using a box! Gotcha-anything that adds to the bottom line of THE CORPORATION!..."Yeah but you see, we mail a 100, 000 pieces daily, times sixty cents gives you $60, 000 in saving a day, more goes to our pockets, do the math dummy!" Okay Mr Betterworld books-I see the point you made but wait a tic, didn't you get ALL YOUR inventory for FREE from the donation dropboxes around the country? I forget-"betterworld.." is FOR PROFIT organization uh-uha.
4)Had to pay return postage out of pocket-basically I lost money because they messed up.
Simply put BETTER NOT buy from "Better..." cos they are WORSE

Order never came
A college student tight on cash, I was excited to order inexpensive books that benefit youth literacy. I ordered all my books for the school year June 21st, so they would arrive before school Sept. 2nd. THE ORDER NEVER CAME. My credit card was charged over $160; but after dozens of emails and hours of waiting on the phone, I have heard nothing. No response. So, I ended up having to spend another $350 for books at school--money I don't have. It also hurt me academically as I didn't have time to read my assignments over break. TERRIBLE BUSINESS. NO CUSTOMER SERVICE. 6 months later and still no response.

They advertise a popular text book, but send you an outdated text
Don't buy from Better World Books ! I bought a much needed text book. They sent the wrong edition. When I contacted them, they didn't have the edition they advertised and told me to send back the book BEFORE they would refund my money! They are schamers! They advertise a popular text book, send you an outdated text, refuse to refund your money until YOU, at your own expense, return the unordered book. WHAT assurance do I have that they will EVER return my money?
Hardly dishonest - they are clear on their website that they are for profit and they recycle the books they cant sell
I use them all the time and haven't had a problem
Dear Pua,
I'm sorry to hear you received the wrong book. I do not know the details of your customer service interaction, but we are human and occasionally make mistakes. I would like to look into what happened. Would you please send your order number or the email address you used when you placed your order to johntu at betterworldbooks dot com?
We do offer a 100% satisfaction guarantee that includes a full refund if you are not happy with the book you receive. We do not require you to pay return shipping. If we made an error with your order, we’ll cover the return shipping costs. However, we do require return of the book before we issue a refund, a common retail practice. I look forward to hearing from you so that I can address your concern.
Sincerely,
John
