wrongful permanent deferment
My name is Tyler Oaks, I am 30 years old and in 2010 when I was 22 years old I started to donate plasma at Biolife in Lima Ohio. I told them of all the piercings and tattoos I had done 3 to 9 years before donating plasma for the almost a years time. I also told them of something less safe before starting to donate plasma; me being stabbed when I was 19 years old and before that as well the same year I pierced my nose and let it close up. My blood was checked and clean from everything. I got my blood checked 2 years ago also in 2017 and I was still clean from everything. One day when I was donating I had told them that I thought I forgot that I tried to pierce my nose in 2007 when I was 19 years old and let it close the same day. I was permanently deferred for this when it was 3 years before I started to give plasma, which is less than their policy on the site of 4 to 12 months of any piercings or tattoos changing the eligibility to give plasma. I informed them of less safe wounds, other piercings and tattoos that I got the same year as the piercing I forgot to say because it closed the same day and I was still clean then, before starting to donate plasma and now in the present. Government Agencies and the Red Cross says this is Wrongful Deferment as well.

donation process
Hello,
I am a regular donation participant at Biolife's Layton, Utah facility and in many cases when I come to donate plasma, the line is as long as 20 people in front of me with additional people in line behind me. Now, the amount of people in front of me is not necessarily the concern. The concern is the understaffing of the Layton branch with literally one, or maybe two, phlebotomists checking vitals in the check in area before actually donating. When your appointment is at a certain time, you arrive on time but, then have to wait 45-60 minuets before even getting back to donate, that's a problem. I, like most people who come in to donate plasma, are very busy and it is one thing to take an hour or so to donate, but when the process is pushing two hours, that quite frankly is way too long. This can easily be resolved by simply either hiring more staff, or making sure to have enough employees on hand to work. Everyone that donates has to set up their appointments on line at specific times. So, there is no reason for managers at the Layton facility to not know the amount of people donating on specific days and times and therefore they should be able to determine the amount of staff needed per day at even at specific times of a day. This would enhance the donation time and process and make it much more satisfactory for the customers. I don't know if this is a common complaint for all of BioLife's facilities, or just in Layton, but this issue needs to be addressed and policies changed. Your efforts in doing so would be greatly appreciated by all who donate. Thank you.
This is absolutely true! I have very rarely if ever just walked in and even only waited a half hour. They load this place full of patients (by the way they don’t want you late checking in) and never do I get in on time. If you want to donate at this facility plan on at least 2.5 hours. It’s an absolute joke. Next time I’m going to try the ogden one. Someone does NOT know how to manage this facility. I honestly feel bad for the workers. They are so understaffed they never get a break and are in a constant rush.
I have a new donor coupon in got referred
I have the new donor coupon. They gave me my first 6 payments with no problem. Then on my last two payments they gave me nothing and when I asked they referred me just because they didnt want to pay me out. I was yelled at. When I was told to come up there in showed my coupon. Just from them to look at it in say we dont know why u couldnt get the payment but its nonthing that could do. I walked away with my arm hurting, yelled at, talked down too and still got nonthing. I asked for the biolife cooperation number they told me no please give me a call [protected].
I was a new donor but they refused to take on the 3rd time stating some nonsense that they themselves said they didn't understand. It is obvious this is a scam to get new donors without actually wanting to pay them. I am disappointed in these tactics.
Stop posting that you want new customers under scams like this.
I can call it a scam as others have complained of same issues!
They pulled the same crap on me so that I never got full amount, because 8 donations had to be completed in 8 weeks, the machines kept malfunctioning, alarm going off, scared the heck outta me, now staff member lied and said that I told him that I have PTSD ?, NOT... went to a scheduled appointment today and got sent to nurse office and they wouldn't let me donate..now want doctors records...WASTED MY TIME, GAS AND MONEY !
life time band!!!
I have been donating plasma with bio life since around 1996. Two years, they place a life time band on donating plasma at any location (permanent deferral placed on me at the location 900 isbell st, green bay, wi 54303) Now to explain the reason for the permanent deferral... There was a couple of times that I forgot to report a non-impactful procedure...

Recently I activated my account with biolife plasma services via the mobile app. I made an appointment for my first visit on monday december 17, 2018. I checked the mobile app for all the resources/ documentation I needed to bring with me. No where on the app was there any information about what would need to be provided if you had previously donated and...

I have been a donor at biolife for three months. I have been screwed out if my bonuses every single month. I apparently go protein deficienton any decent paying day. I've had enough of this.. You lost a client today. Today I went to my doctor for a scheduled appointment. He listened to my plasma/low protein experience, so he checked my protein. Four hours ago my protein was recorded at dr charles coats office as 6.8. My weight was 146.4 pounds. I went to biolife at 2 40. Three hours and 40 min after my doctor appointment. Shelby, one of three people at biolife who always say I have low protein... There are three people and only three who consistently say I have low protein every time they test it... Told me, as predicted that mu. Protein is 5.8 and I weight 144.9 pounds. You are flat out lying to people. I now have proof. I am calling an attorney because you have wasted my gas, my time, and have caused me much anxiety for nothing. I knew these people were lying. I just couldn't prove it until today. I've called before and was treated nicely, but the problem hasn't stopped. I was welcomed into biolife with open arms and as soon as I reached my first large bonus, I became protein deficient.. As soon as I called your corporate office and complained, my protein has only been good on $20 days and f shelby, ian or mother man tests my blood, i'm guaranteed to have low protein.. I am also posting this on social media.. I'd like to file a class action suit against you for deception, possible theft and for causing me and others severe anxiety. People go sell. Plasma usually don't do it for fun.. They do it because they are broke. Yet your plasma center employees seem to enjoy watching struggling people leave with nothing but a corrupt person's word that they have low protein. Again, I finally have proof. And im not a broke person.. I carry coach and can hire an attorney, which clearly needs to be done. Good people who don't have any money are giving you their plasma for $20 and you are selling it for hundreds of dollars. That's awful by itself, but then you have employees who are blatantly lying to those people on a whim, costing them time and gas for nothing. It's disgusting. The only people you are actually helping are yourselves, and im interested in seeing if my attorney can win back some of my and others time and money. You all have a good day. Thank god for my awesome doctor.
Yes, i can spell and actually write well..it's the phone.
Deferred from donating
I had gone up to biolife, which is a 45 minute drive one way, and was turned away because it had been too long since I had eaten. It was already late and I was already one of the last donors of the night. So I rescheduled. Go up second time and after waiting around for over an hour, I was told they wouldn't accept m my form of social security number. Rescheduled. 3rd time up, I get to the physical part and they ask about my sleep paralysis. They were unsure if I could donate. They had to contact someone and they needed to okay it. Said i'd have an answer by friday, this was tuesday. Saturday comes. No call. I call them and they haven't heard anything. They said for certain by monday. Monday, nothing. I call them and they said they would call as soon as they heard. Friday comes and they tell me i'm approved. Schedule again. Get all the way through the process up to the documenting of piercings and tattoos and i'm told that I can't donate ever because k have a specific piercing. That's ridiculous. I am livid. 4 times i've wasted time and gas for nothing. My piercing has nothing to do with my plasma.
I need a number to talk to someone about a complaint
I need a number to talk to someone about my complaint who can i call can't reach a corporate number why is that
employee complaint
What are your companies rules for keeping your customers safe or discreet when donating plasma at biolife centers? One of your employees named kristi iwakane at the riverton, utah location was nasty enough to take pictures/ videos and make fun of clients in that facility by filming while being at work! It sickens me that there is no such thing as privacy...

On nov 21st, I tried to donate. There was a deferrment because I had not returned a letter from my dr. It wasn't due until dec 14th, so the nurse reluctantly cancelled the deferrment. Then she said "you sniffed, so you must have allergies" and she would not let me donate. I have never had allergies. She lied so I couldn't donate. Even the manager agreed I didn't look like I had allergies, but she couldn't override the nurse. The nurse was mad because she said she called my phone and left a message on it about the letter from the dr, but I told the nurse I did not notice the message. I told her I was not implying she did not call and leave a message, and I just did not notice it. For some reason that made her really mad. I have never had allergies in my entire life. You realize how serious this is? The nurse can just whimsically defer anybody if she gets mad. That was the day before thanksgiving, and my second time to donate in a week, so I should have received $50. So I did not get my $50 because I was going out of town the rest of the week. I would have really appreciated that money for gas money, and because I won't be back in joplin until sunday I have totally missed out on a second donation within the same week to get my money. Donors need that money, and now they're going to have to be very careful and hope the nurse is having a good day otherwise she might punish them and not let them donate just because she can. I was very mad and didn't probably cause a little bit of a scene because she was totally lying, and I could not believe that she was doing that. I went home and got on the plasma website and under deferrments it said, if a donor is experiencing allergies that day, and they are mild, and the donor feels well, they are allowed to donate. So even if I really did have allergies, I should have been allowed to donate because all I did was sniff one time. Is this the kind of people you want working for you. How many times have you done this before? Her behavior is unethical.
scheduling
There is no plan in place for cancelation notifications to a customer by the business, specifically for customers that are a significant distance from a bio-life center. Twice I have had to drive into a biolife center, which is a 30 mile roundtrip, just to be told my appointment is cancelled when it could have been communicated via phone, voice message, or text message.
I am not one to complain, and selmdonly do, so I know there are other customers that are frustrated with this.
It would make sense for the scheduling system to alert the nurses of appointments canceled by biolife so they have time to let a customer know a day before the appointment. This is even more important if the customer roytinely comes in early for their appointment or when the appointment is cancelled the day prior.
Biolife scheduling software already has all the metrics in place to track this.
donating plasma
I've been donating plasma since 2013 at the denton biolife center. I get a check up (physical) every year. I've had the same tattoo on my neck and piercings on my ears since I started donating in 2013. I went to get a check up this year (on wednesday) and the nurse told me she didn't have my piercings or tattoos on file and now I have suddenly been deferred from donating at any location because of their negleigence to document this information on my file. I talked to two managers shay and luke and they were not understanding or listening to what I had to say. I was on the phone for 37 minutes and they told me they could not do anything about this and made it seem as if I lied about not giving them this information since I started donating. I have had the same tattoos and piercings since before I started donating and I feel the staff members, nurses and managers have failed to their job by not documenting this information on my file. I am now basically listed as a liar and can not go back do to their incompetence of not having this information on file. I asked to speak to the supervisors boss (david) and luke told me that he is on vacation and so I asked to have david give me a call to resolve this when he gets back. Luke then told me that he was not going to give him this information or continue any longer speaking to me over the phone. He told me to call back in a week to discuss this but I will not be able to donate no matter what. Very bad customer service to be listed as a manager both shay and luke. I feel as if I have been punished for their mistake to document this information. I really loved donating and saving lives and now I can no longer do this due to their incompetence. My name is amber britton and I would like to receive and call back any monday or tuesday when i'm off of work. My number is [protected].
"customer service"
I've gone to the biolife facility in burleson tx roughly 20 times, and half of the times was a giant pain and not worth the struggle. And for every single one of those mentioned times, it was on the second donation (you know, the one they actually pay you for.) this time was the final straw, some goofy kid was manning the prelim tests and squeezed my finger so hard he caused my cuticle to break and bleed (a very tiny ammount) which got on his glove. I was sent to a nurse thinking it was no big deal. Apparently it was as it is considered an "open wound" and I was deferred for the day. I was mad enough already, but then I noticed I was locked out for sunday as well, which is the cut off for the actual payout for the week. The nurse was rude, as she and the rest almost always are, and no one there was even the least bit helpful. They gave me a number to "shire" after nicely letting me know that it wasn't going to do cheap for me and that i'll probably be referred to them anyway. She was happy to set up an appointment with an assistant manager in a week. Funny because there's always 4-5 people walking around that look like actual managers. All in all, i've never been happy with the service and won't be returning.
the wait
I made an appt. To get my physical and I had to wait for hours. After an hour of waiting I finally asked why I hadn't been called back yet. They said well we are running behind. I think the problem is they didn't have a receptionist to answer the ringing phone and receive anybody at the desk so the nurses had to man the desk and do'the physicals. This facility is short staffed and need more workers.
service at facility is very lackluster
I have been a donor for about a year now, stopped in the summertime but would like to resume donations this school year. I made an appointment for today but on my way I was informed that I would need a physical again. This inconvenienced me greatly, it sucks that I was never informed of the physical until I was only minutes away. I was not able to donate because "there were no times available" even though I scheduled time out of my own day to come down and donate. Really I feel as though since I was not informed that I would need the physical, you people should have made the time to get me a physical since I already spent my own time getting to the facility. The fact that I had no idea I needed a physical until I had left my house and was minutes away points out that the biolife app needs work, lots of it. It also says to me that you need to do a better job of customer service, perhaps you could have called me to inform I needed a physical if the app is unable? Biolife touts it's ease of use and flexibility but I was shown neither of those things today and I am very disappointed to see this occur.
customer service
I called the indep mo location and spoke with a lady yesterday 11/3/18 for 10 mins. I told the lady that I would be a return donor and I had a$300 coupon and ask if I would be able to use it since it had been since 8/17. She told me yesand put me on hold to confirm she came back and said yes since it had been so long. I went today and it was denied by a jamie and would only do $150. This is not right. I confirmed and so did the ladyon the phone.
obtaining a release unethically and using it
I was tricked into signing a release for bio life the week before last. As soon as I found out about it, which was the next day, I spoke to the center mgr. She told me that it was legal for them to use the release to send to my doctor. I explained to her that this wasn't the reason that I knew at all about as to what I was signing the release for. I also told her to null and void the release that I had signed. On 10-26-18 I found out that she still hadn't voided out the release. The doctor for bio life on edgewood road in cedar rapids, ia is dr anthony carter. He is an emergency room physician at st lukes hospital. He has also had disciplinary action against him from the hospital. Bio life has and still is playing a lot of game with me over the entire situation, and still refuses to let me donate until this dr reviews and signs off on this matter. I have tried telling them, and the district mgr also pointed out to me that they tricked me to sign the release, that they can't legally do this has continued with the release I signed.
being deferred
During an annual physical, I had forgotten the previous year to tell the clinician all of my previous piercings. Aka piercings from when I was a child, 10 years prior. When asked about my piercings I had listed off all piercings, including the one I had gotten ten years prior and had taken out almost immediately. (the first time I did not think to mention this). I was banned from donating at biolife forever. I understand the reasoning to rigid rules in regards to piercings and tattoos, but I do not find this to be just, especially when the services are supposed to be saving the lives of other's. I did not lie, nor get any new piercings when donating throughtout the years.
continuous problems
I am so over biolife every other time I go they come up with different reasons to not accept me during the larger payments. Ive had issues with them over 3 times in october alone. The first issue they ended up not paying me the right amount. Fortunately, that time the issue was corrected and I was paid the full amount. Then I go to a new biolife and was accepted for the small amount but was turned away when it was time for my larger amount because of an address issue. I then showed the employee my rental receipt but she refused to accept it. She then informs me that I need a lease. So I simply asked if the house is not mine and I am paying for a section of the house. And showing you the homeowners contract agreement then why wouldn't I be able to use that? Everyone in the world does not have a house of their own so because I do not own a house im not eligible? Thats absurd! I would strongly suggest that no one do business with them. This is just out right wrong and judgemental. On top of that I was 2 donations away from receiving my extra $60 bonus and it just completely disappeared. They are unprofessional and im tired of dealing with them. Ive donated at other plasma centers in the past and new had this many issues in just one month its ridiculous. Signed an angry client.
the 8 donation policy.
I think it's absolutely wrong that a person would dedicate themselves throughout the entire month to try to get that bonus and then because of a simple technically like high heart rate or something like that they miss a day and then they can't come back I was just told by biolife on eisenhower in appleton wisconsin that I cannot donate next week because of the 7-day schedule that doesn't make any sense because in all reality you should always just have two days between donations and you should be fine I understand that you need to only do two donations within the 7 day. But at the end of the day for me to do a donation on a monday and a wednesday every week this month and then missed my donation on wednesday because my pulse was high, and now i'm going to miss that bonus that I tried to stay on schedule so closely with all my phone so I feel robbed I feel it's wrong and sometimes you feel robbed by the constant technicalities but this one is worse than all because it gets their hopes up only to let you down.
The the weekly bonuses or a bonus every 2 weeks for consistent for donations or something like that something that isn't as crucial as making sure you get all eight donations in 31 or 30 days when people have working lives and technicalities such as these arise it would be considerate of biolife to understand this and not make it so frustrating but this is the system as it is and it's just not fair because this is not the first time nor will it be the last time that I will have to give my dedication to biolife the consistent donations and in the end not get my just rewards? Please consider changing this policy as it makes it very frustrating for plasma donation clients. Thank you for reading and have a nice day and they whatever you pray to bless you I need to know if you pray to nothing I bless you anyway have a nice day later bye.
nurses serving outside of their licensed scope, forces disclosure of confidential history
When checking in to donateI was experiencing anxiety, in just the first month I was often deferred from donating on multiple single-day visits.
When I asked to speak to a nurse because I had been wasting my time driving 25 minutes in to donate, I spoke with Janae in the Loveland, CO Biolife center.
As I was explaining my symptoms, she claimed that I mislead them in my initial screening and that the anxiety I reported was actually PTSD. She deferred me, but didn't even have the courage to tell me until I called them the next day because I wasn't able to schedule an appt.
I had to go back over to the center to obtain the forms to have my doctor sign, and all of the staff knew who I was and that I was going to argue because 1) the scope of a nurse is not to make a diagnosis, 2) I'm going to advocate for my own medical history, 3) I've been forced to disclose violence history to multiple people as this has risen up the chain of command, yet no one will actually do anything.
My PhD level therapist of more than two years who knows my diagnosis and sees me weekly, filled out the form; but of course it was not approved at the Loveland, CO center.
At this point, I'm awaiting a call back from their Corporate owner since no member of management has been willing to talk to me longer than a few minutes on the phone.
