I purchased Timeshare in 2006. I have never used it. I have it fully paid for and all my maintenance fees have been paid up until now. I could afford to pay them before because I was employed even though I my wife has had no income since 2009. I also have never taken a holiday using it in that time. I wish to be rid of this. I even tried to get rid of it by paying Cyria Group over $9,000. They were members of the CRTA or CRDA and defrauded me of my money. Do you have a deed back or Surrender and Release Program that I can avail myself of? I am retired and with my current income (under $2000 CDN/Month) I cannot continue to pay these fees. I was told last year, by Equiant Group, that if my payments were current that there was a plan for surrender and release. As soon as I paid to be current, I was told that there was no such program. They are trying this method again so I phone Geoholiday member service direct and was told they do not have such a plan. The only way out is after 45 years or sell it (even then it has to be approved by Geo) and if they (the buyers) don’t paid the dues it falls to me.. I tried selling it and found no buyers. I will not be duped by this again. Nor will I make any maintenance payments.

If you live in Canada and have a US based timeshare such as Geo/Saphire simply stop paying your maintenance fees if you want out. It is very difficult and costly for a company from another country to get a judgement against you, in fact, they have to get a judgement in the US then take that judgement to a court in Canada and get another judgement then get it enforced, this is not worth their effort for small amounts.
We stopped paying several months ago, we received the odd call from GEO Holiday but they ask you to verify who you are even though they call you - just don’t verify who you are and the hang up.
They have now sent the file to Monterey Financial services (collection agency) however they are based in California and cannot affect our credit. They called and left a voice mail for us to call them which we will not do, I suspect they will call a few times and give up.
The contract says GEO can suspend or cancel our membership which we are fine with if they decide to do so. We paid approximately $11,000.00 in 2005 and got many years of use but have decided we no longer wanted to be on the hook for maintenance fees.
We tried offering our shares back free of charge and asked them to send the required paperwork but they are insisting we pay a fee to get out of it which we will not do.
