Works on Marantz SR6013
Took the $5 gamble for a Marantz SR6013 and it sync’d right in! When I go to the 4K Blu-ray player I switch from hdmi 1 to hdmi 2 in my setup so I’m unable to see the Marantz display, and the Marantz app seemed very clunky. I installed the DeRemote app and now I have a visual of the things going on with the receiver without getting up to look at the portal display. Obviously there are settings in the menu that don’t pertain to this particular model. This does what I was looking for and then some too! I haven’t tried any of the online music feeds, even before installing this app, so no comment there. Hope this helps those that might be on the fence about this app.
Junk -don’t waste your money if you use Pandora or Sirius
If you use anything that requires authentication (Pandora, Sirius, etc.) forget it! I spent hours trying to figure out how to enter my account information. It keeps telling me to “follow the onscreen menu,” well the onscreen menu shows nothing but the navigation buttons and “menu on” and “menu off” buttons, which by the way, do absolutely nothing. Sometimes I do get a prompt for an email address after switching inputs to Sirius, but the keyboard function to enter the email doesn’t work.
By the way, I have worked in IT for 20 years, so I’m no stranger to technology. This stuff isn’t rocket science.
As bad as the free Marantz app is, at least it worked with Sirius and Pandora.
Not bad
Depending on which denon receiver you have some things work and some things don't. The 4way curser or what ever they call it is very finicky. It seems to have a mind of its own. I have the 1912 denon. Could be the problem. I sometimes have to get up and reset my receiver and disconnect wifi to get it out of a loop. If all you need to do is to remotely turn on and off and control volume of each zone throughout your house I would stick to denons free app. I do now. It's basic but works without glitches. If you need all the bells and whistles of accessing your other denon's features then give this app a whirl but get ready to spend some time figuring out "why is it doing that?"

Great Upgrade over Denon App
Tremendously better than Denon App. Takes a little while to "get it" but once I did, it was really nice. App effectively "repairs" the crappy Denon UI by skipping steps or allowing things the Denon doesn't allow (like changing channel levels on the fly). Really like it and use it regularly.
So here is my next favorite upgrade list: create the ability to save a couple of different channel level profiles, including the Audessy optimized setting. For example, I sometimes listen to sports with no center volume and the surround speakers set loud. It would be nice to set and save this and be able to jump back to the Audessy settings with a single click. Thanks for a great app.
Best App for Multiple Zones/Receivers
This is a spectacular app. I have a 3310 and a 3311 driving 5 zones (Bedroom, Living Room, Theater, Backyard, Garage). This app lets me control it all as if it were all a single integrated system. Once set up, no one has to know which receivers do what. You just tap "Backyard" ON and your on your way. The new customization features and new support for advanced receiver features are fantastic. Well done! If you only have a simple single zone setup and 2011 series and later Denon receiver, the free Denon app may suffice. But if you have multiple zones you want this app. P.S. I would love to have a Windows version of this app that I could use with a touchscreen monitor I have mounted in my media room.
Love this app
What I liked immediately was the ability of the app to find my receiver and set it up. What got me to purchase this app is the support for my 4306. Mostly awesome, with this and AppleTv remote app you are set.
One bug so far, the app got lost when in the media navigation. I hit "Videos" and it went in and never came out. I had to boot the app and the receiver.
One improvement needed is better navigation through the list of media. I have a few hundred albums/artists and it's unusably slow moving through the list and the double up and down arrows do nothing. This is an important improvement as the quality of playback through the Denon's D/A converters is so much better than the AppleTv's
Well worth the price.
Works perfect
Get this app if you want to have pretty much full control of your receiver WHILE watching a movie/gaming/listening to music.
Can easily adjust channel level, changes surround settings, turning dynamic volume/EQ on and off and a lot more! So pretty much all the setting you will need to make adjustment while enjoying your activities.
Also, the app seems to keep your last used setting for each mode. For example I like to keep dynamic volume/EQ off while gaming, and on while watching movies. Doesn't require me to manually change those when I switch modes.
I have a suggestion however: allow user to lock the icon at the bottom instead of switching to last used.
All in all great app, and perfect for anyone that also like to play with your settings without the remote.
Good and worth owning, but could use more functions
This app is both easy to use and quite convenient. The iPad version is even easier, since it lays everything out on one screen, although it doesn't appear to add any functions. My one criticism is that it doesn't add much that you don't already get in Denon's own (free) version. This would not be as serious a problem were it not for the fact that this app costs $7.99, which is kind of steep as iPhone/iPad apps go. OTOH the developer has a small but affluent audience, so this may be what he must charge to see much profit. I'd give this app another star if it had more functions that I can't get from the Denon one.
NOTE: Two areas in which this app really shines are (1) multi-zone control and (2) preset configuration. If either of these are big priorities for you, buy it.
Awesome alternative
The free Denon app had serious issues connecting to my Denon 2113 receiver. I contacted Denon and they blame Apple Airplay. This one not only connects every time but it does it super fast. I have an iPhone 4 with the most recent iOS6 and firmware updates on my Denon and a new Cisco WAP. I do wish I could control the volume from every screen instead of having to go back to the main screen but I understand that it may not fit on them all. I would also prefer if the media player option would open my iPhones instead of its own because it does not allow browse, just forward and back buttons or add browse to theirs. The Pandora option doesn't work either but via a quick email to support, I found out that a new release is waiting on Apple approval to fix this. Worth the money? Yes. What good is free remote software if it won't reliably connect.
Very handy
Yeah, it's $8, but it works really well with my 43xx and it sure beats the onboard web interface... ;) Would be handy if I could set it such that inputs could be rearranged (or some hidden entirely - I don't have a phonograph, nor am I likely to in the foreseeable future - I should be able to hide that input or at least push it to the bottom of the list.) It'd be even niftier if there were two modes - The regular ("advanced") mode (for the folks who know what and how the system works and is set up) and a very simple "dummy" mode with just the basics (for folks in the house who don't care what form of Surround is in use and just want to be able to do the very basics): on/off / volume/mute / (configurable) input selector. Finally - there's a minor misspelling among the decoder types: "neutral" appears as "neural."
All in all, completely worthwhile.
A must have if you own Denon/Marrantz product!
I bought a mint condition Denon AVR 1912 from eBay. Everything works and everything came with it except the remote, so I had to download Denon's official app. It's convenient and free, but slow, buggy and has limited features. DeRemote, however, is 10x better than the official Denon app. Way more features, A LOT faster and very stable. It has never crashed on me in the 4 months I've had it. It's absolutely worth the 5 bucks; maybe even more.
My only complaint is I wish there was a way to disable the "shake to mute" feature.Since I use the app as my only means of controlling my receiver sometimes I sorta just drop my phone on the couch like I would a remote and accidentally mute the receiver. Not so bad when casually listening to music or TV, but bad and fairly embarrassing when in the middle of a loud action scene and the receiver cranked up to reference level with guest over. Other than that, the app is perfect.
*UPDATE: There's now a way to disable the "shake to mute" feature, so now this app is totally perfect. Highly recommended!
Best App Ever
I have to say I never write reviews but felt I had to on this one. I have struggled for over a year to find an app to run my Denon 1912 receiver correctly. Everything I tried either hung up after a while, GUI was bad, poor external media connectivity etc. This app is exactly what I was looking for to drive my system. I use it to play music off my external network media drive, tuner control, audio setup changes, volume etc. it runs the 2 independent zones perfectly. I use Pandora pretty heavily and again Flawless with excellent presentation (album artwork etc).
I could keep going but to be honest you should be able to tell by now I am a big fan. I was a bit concerned about being burned buying the app up front but could not be happier that I did so. With all the money we spend on equipment and music, not to pay 5 bucks to bring it all together is insane. I know this sounds like a developer written review but it is not. I'm just trying to get the word out as this is what should have come with the receiver in the first place. Do yourself a favor and secure this app.
Very basic, needs a lot of refinement
After buying a receiver for $800 it seemed like getting the app they advertise so heavily would come as part of the package deal. But... I plunked down another $5 for the app. It did detect my Marantz receiver with ease. That's about the best part of the app.
I am able to make some basic functions from my iPad like volume and sleep timer. The user interface looks out of the '80's but not in such a cool way. It's clear that the engineering team is in charge of development. Every function known to man is visible but my receiver doesn't have many of the features. This is frustrating when I have to go past several surround sound features that are old crappy features that my higher end receiver stopped using a decade ago like "Matrix" or "Rock Arena".
Other buttons in the app disable my settings. When I clicked the Bi-amp button it disabled the bi-amp function in my receiver and I no longer had power going to my tweeters. I had to go back into my receiver menu to re-enable this. So if I ever accidentally hit this button again in the sea of buttons in the app I'll now need to redo this.
Clearly this app needs some design help! A few tips for the developer. If the app is smart enough to know what receiver I have can't it enable a UI for my receiver or at least disable the 2 dozen or so functions that my receiver can't use? Please give your UI some hierarchy. Things like on/off and volume should be front and center and probably some cool dial like on your receivers. the complex or rarely used features can be hidden behind a single menu button. Simplicity is the ultimate form of sophistication.
I'm hoping future revisions will be simpler, more intuitive and more graphical. Please hire a designer or two. They will launch your company far further than the linear thinking engineers. I hope to reap the benefits of this review in the future.
PROBLEM SOLVED
I HAVE BOUGHT HUNDREDS OF APPS OVER THE YEARS AND HAVE NEVER LEFT A REVIEW. BUT AFTER A YEAR OF BEING FULLY FRUSTRATED WITH THE STANDARD DENON APP, I FOUND THIS APP AND THE PROBLEMS WERE SOLVED.
THE STANDARD APP WORKED OK WHEN IT CONNECTED, BUT HALF THE TIME IT WOULDN'T DETECT THE RECEIVER AND THE OTHER HALF OF THE TIME THE CONNECTION WAS LOST AFTER ALMOST EVERY FUNCTION ENTRY, EVEN WITH A DIRECT IP CONNECTION FOR THE RECEIVER. ALSO, WHEN IT DID CONNECT IT WOULD EITHER HAVE A DELAY COMMAND REACTION OUR WOULD FREEZE UP FOR MINUTES AT A TIME UPDATING CONNECTIONS. I USED THE APP MOSTLY ON THE PATIO SO IT BECAME EXTREMELY FRUSTRATING WHEN THE APP WOULDN'T WORK AND I CONSISTENTLY HAD TO GO IN AND OUT TO MAKE VOLUME OR SOURCE CHANGES WITH THE STANDARD REMOTE CONTROL (WHICH IS VIRTUALLY INCOMPREHENSIBLE AS WELL). IT GOT TO THE POINT WHERE I QUIT USING MY RECEIVER AND OUTSIDE SPEAKERS OUT OF FRUSTRATION AND WOULD JUST USE A WIRELESS BLUETOOTH SPEAKER WITH MY PHONE.
THIS APP CONNECTED IMMEDIATELY, GAVE FULL FUNCTIONALITY TO ALL ZONES INCLUDING SOURCES FOR EACH ZONE, SURROUND MODES, INTERNET/USB FULL SEARCH AND SCROLLING, HAS ZERO DELAY AND ALL COMMANDS ARE EXECUTED IMMEDIATELY, IS VERY SIMPLE TO USE AND EVERYTHING IS EASY TO UNDERSTAND. IT LOOKS A LITTLE BASIC, BUT GIVES FULL FUNCTIONALITY AND IS EASY TO UNDERSTAND. WHAT GOOD IS THE FANCIER LOOKING STANDARD DENON APP WHEN IT DOESNT WORK HALF THE TIME AND IS NOT AS SIMPLE TO UNDERSTAND AND TO USE.
GREAT APP, NOW I'M BACK IN BUSINESS ON MY PATIO WITH MY RECEIVER AND OUTDOOR SPEAKERS.
THE FIVE BUCKS WAS WELL WORTH IT CONSIDERING THE HOURS WASTED SPENT WITH TECH SUPPORT BETWEEN DENON AND MY ISP TRYING TO GET THE STANDARD APP TO WORK. ALSO WELL WORTH IT CONSIDERING THE MONEY I SPENT ON THE RECEIVER WITH SEPARATE PATIO ZONE SOURCES AND VOLUMES AND THE OUTDOOR SPEAKERS WHICH WERE VIRTUALLY BEING UNUSED AND WASTED. ALSO WORTH IT CONSIDERING I CAN NOW EASILY USE FUNCTIONS I KNEW MY RECEIVER HAD, BUT COULD NEVER FIGURE OUT HOW TO USE WITH EITHER THE FRONT PANEL CONTROLS, THE STANDARD REMOTE, OR THE DENON APP. MY RECEIVER INSTANTLY BECAME MORE VALUABLE NOW THAT I CAN USE FUNCTIONS THAT I COULDN'T FIGURE OUT HOW TO USE BEFORE.
THE ONLY IMPROVEMENT I WOULD ADD WOULD BE ARROWS ON BOTH SIDES OF THE VOLUME CONTROL SLIDE IN ORDER TO MAKE SMALL VOLUME ADJUSTMENTS.
AWESOME APP!
DeRemote for Denon and Marantz Complaints 12
What a waste of money!
This app is completely useless, don't waste your money. The FREE Denon app works so much better and has many more features. I was extremely disappointed! Don't waste your money! I would have given it zero stars if it would let me.
No family sharing
App design is by no means groundbreaking but it is functional. Does what it is supposed to do. My problem is that each family member has to buy their own. Even with apple family sharing - it asks money from each member. Big negative..
Nah
Speaker levels on the app have to be turned way up and they still don't achieve what my denon Avr-s900w does by itself. All in all my sound quality suffered regardless of tuning. Turn the app off and hit the remote and the whole system wakes up.

Deremote app freezes
I have the DeRemote app on my iPhone 14Pro and my iPad and they work great. When I attempt to install DeRemote app on my iPhone 13 the screen freezes and will not go to settings to find my Denon receiver. Makes no sense and both iPhones are running the same IOS.
Don’t bother to write, they won’t answer
Been trying to set this app up to work with my Denon AVR x3700h. Doesn’t want to recognize Zone 2, so limited ability to control sound throughout the house. I’ve sent two emails to the developer, with no response. Given that the last update was 6 years ago, this guy must have gone fishing.
Buggy, no on/off switch - SAVE YOUR $$
This app promises a lot more than it can deliver. I have had synch issues and basic functionality like on and off is not supported. It does support a lot of different features of the unit but the sync issues and lack of basic commands makes this a waste. I have to revert to the free Marantz app
Wasted $
I have a Denon AVR-900W. The app cannot find my receiver on the network. I can occasionally get it to work by manually entering the receiver's IP, but even then if I leave the app and return, the app can no longer connect, I have to delete it and start over. Very frustrating. Useless. Would love that $ back.
Does no recognize my IOS music library or anything internet related
I don’t understand why there is no pause or mute feature for the volume control. It won’t recognize my IOS music library. I’ve created a favorites list using Denon’s HEOS app and this app won’t recognize that either. This app won’t recognize anything internet related, touching the internet icons does nothing.
Denon Deremote app, free remote and receiver
Do not waste your money in buying Denon in general. The receiver is bad and complicated to make it work. Unable to connect the Denon w720 to the wired network. The free app-remote control occasionally works. I pay for the Deremote and I was unable to make it work. Very sad experience in general with Denon brand.
A big NO with the 3312
If you own the AVR3312CI, don't waste your money on this app or the DenOnOff app, or the free Denon app for that matter. None of them work with the 3312. I have been through two brand new units (thanks electronics-expo!) and it is clear that Denon has a problem with wifi apps and using those apps for remote control.
Why all the 5-stars?
Was happily using DenOnOff on my 1st-gen iTouch when that app stopped working. Thought I would try DeRemote thinking that it's got to be good if they can charge 8 bucks and get so many good reviews. What a waste! The internet radio browsing and control is way worse than even the Denon app. Hope they can improve it so I don't feel like I threw away $8...
Denon 3808
This product is pretty much useless and for $6.99 a complete rip off. Yes it can control the volume, but not acurately. Adjusting the volume on the iPhone only allows you to adjust in 10db increaments. Also, The ON /OFF feature only allows me to turn the unit OFF, not ON. If your going to have a product that is this basic it should be $0.99. I'm hoping there are quite a few upgrades in the near future, otherwise don't waste your time or money.
