Don't do it, We were not notified of the Contract Ending and was change double what we were paying so we just switch to a new provider...
Signing-up on line was very seamless
Signing-up on line was very seamless. I was a customer back in early 2019 and then switched to a lower rate competitor. Now, I signed up again with Discount Power for a lower rate.
Unethical and deceptive business practices. Originally signed on with them for a low rate in the $7 to $8 range and received NO NOTICE of the plan's END DATES(S) or RATE CHANGE(S). Apparently, there were multiple plan rollovers until I recently received a UI bill for July for $728 during COVID. Can you imagine? My "plan" with Discount Power apparently evolved into a $13.48 cent a kilowatt plan with a $50 cancellation fee (the highest rate they have) unbeknownst to me. I DID NOT select this plan! Upon receipt of the bill I immediately called Discount Power and was told by Lisa the customer service manager that they sent me notices. Notices, what notices? I told her I never received one bit of documentation from them that the terms of my agreement were changing - over multiple plan changes - or I would have intervened. Worse, I am told by both UI and Discount Power that it will take 2 billing cycles to change my supplier and get my bill down to a manageable rate. So I am stuck with 2 billing cycles at $728.00! THIS IS HIGHWAY ROBBERY and these energy companies are behaving in a predatory manner. I requested a rate change be effectuated immediately and was told by Discount Power that nothing can be done.Upon request, CEO of Discount Power Joel Glassman was unwilling to credit me for the difference in their "best" rate and the exorbitant rate I am paying of $13.49. Only interested in crediting me going forward for SOMETHING I SHOULD BE ABLE TO CHANGE IMMEDIATELY - This is the "BEST" they can do - that's BS. NO THANKS JOEL!. Two billing cycles to effect a change is unacceptable in year 2020 and with the technology available today. This is a money grab by energy suppliers. They press a button to shut you off immediately when you don't pay your bill but when you want to make a change you have to wait 2 months. UI is guilty too because they're the ones making the change that takes 2 months. They are taking advantage of the increase in usage in summer months with ACs and additional consumption rates. Why is it fair to the consumer that we have to BEG to make a change in supplier or beg a company to do something nice for us when this is what should be done all along? It is an antiquated system that needs to be exposed and CHANGED. I am appealing to our legislators that consumers should not be handcuffed in this way. Energy companies are fleecing their pockets while consumers are suffering financial hardships during the COVID crisis. Three of us in my household have lost their jobs due to COVID and I have a child with health care concerns that requires AC to breathe. Squeaky Joel Glassman was too cheap to credit me for best available rate of $8.57 for the month in question - the $728 July bill. Would have been a savings to me and brought my bill down to the normal rate I am used to every July approx. $450. However, Joel would only give me the best available rate going forward for the next two months starting August in the form of a credit until the change took effect in October and ignored the damage already done. A couple hundred bucks is a drop in the bucket to these energy companies but is a lot to someone like me. Had they done the right thing I would have stayed but it's about principle. I WILL NOT be treated this way. Snow in winter as far as I am concerned and zero compassion for consumers. I feel bad for consumers who are unable to understand the bill or who have no access to computers to make informed decisions. This is shameful. Stay away from Discount Power; they are shysters! Had to leave a star in exchange for the review. This company deserves negative stars.

Are you sick of all those telemarketing calls in which a robo-dialer calls with a lie "this is an apology call" saying that they are calling from your energy provider and then connects you to a call center in India? Even if you've been on the do not call list for years and have been called HUNDREDS of times about it? DISCOUNT POWER ARE THE ONES DOING IT. This is illegal as well as unethical. I'm on the do not CALL list, so the call is illegal right there. The caller ID had a fake number when they called, which is even more blatantly illegal, and not something that could ever happen by chance. And the operator who eventuially (stupidly) told me she worked on behalf of Discount Power lied about working with my existing power provider. Also criminal. Three strikes and yet they get an A+ rating by the ComplaintsBoard.com? Blatant criminal activity and ComplaintsBoard.com gives them a thumbs up? THIS IS A BLATANTLY CRIMINAL ORGANIZATION. I guess that means a ComplaintsBoard.com rating means NOTHING AT ALL. ... Note: I have received the same call with the same script dozens and dozens of times, aways from a spoofed number. Every other time, the operator hung up when I pressed them to identify the company they were calling on behalf of. Because they all knew it was illegal. Now I know it's been DISCOUNT POWER all along.
I had a call from Discount Power who insisted they would save me a bundle!
I had a call from Discount Power who insisted they would save me a bundle! I kept asking if their price of 19.5 cents included the distribution charges and they said it was the "total" price per kWh. I received my welcome letter and saw they had scammed me. I tried to go back to my previous company but I couldn't get my old rate back (it was 9.7 cents but the new rate is 13.49 cents). I called Discount Power and the man there said if I didn't understand what I was being told over the phone, I should have just hung up! Terrible business!
DO NOT sign up with Discount Power
DO NOT sign up with Discount Power. Their payment processing is slow and you will be charged late fees for their inefficiency. I was charged a late fee 2 months in a row but I paid the first month 5 days before the due date and the second month 8 days before the due date. Their customer service credited me the late fee for the first month as a "curtesy' for their ineptitude. However the second call, they said since there was a holiday the payment wasn't posted by the due date so they couldn't do anything for me. Not my fault they can't process payments in a timely manner. Save yourself the time and money, go with someone else.
I called my electric supplier because there was a special on alternative energy sources
I called my electric supplier because there was a special on alternative energy sources. I was told I would receive a call back, and the next day I got a call from Discount Power. The representative barely spoke English, and there was a great deal of background noise, so I was never quite sure what he was saying. He went through all the facts and figures with me. I then had to confirm with his supervisor, and his supervisor's supervisor, none of whom had any more understandable English than the others. I was on the phone more than a half hour, but I figured it would be worth it because the rate they were offering was great. Imagine my surprise when my bill came and the amount charge by Discount was several times more than that of my usual supplier, even though they had only charge for two weeks. I called my supplier, who showed me that the representative had been misleading about the numbers he provided. Essentially he was comparing apples and oranges. I switched back immediately, but was still out of pocket more than $100. I don't pretend to know much about kilowatt hours and the various permutations of billing for electricity, and the rep used that to totally hoodwink me. Bad!
