harrassment
This company's practices are horrendous. They begin collection calls one day past the due date, and call both at home and at work. I have been recently told that I have late fees on my loan, but, never received any documentation regarding this. Now, they claim I owe $32, and want it paid immediately. $32!
I have repeatedly requested a statement of my account, and have been told that they cannot provide me one from the dealership. In the same conversation, they tell me I can come and pick it up at the store! So, they cannot stick it in an envelope, and mail it to me, or better yet, fax it to me, BUT, they can charge me $7.50 when I make a payment online!
I am reporting them to the Clearwater Better Business Bureau, and will be calling the corporate office, and terminating my loan agreement with this company. This is the WORST experience I have ever had in my entire life.

krappy kars
on november of 08, i purchased a car from drivetime in downey, ca. i told them i only had 1200 dollars for a down payment and they said no problem. i was happy that i was approved, so i just wanted a car right away. they gave me a selection of cars i could get. they only had ugly ### cars. i wanted a chevy impala, but they told me i needed a bigger down payment. i ended up buying an 05 chevy malibu which was very overpriced, but i didnt care. the first day i got it, i took it home and showed it off to my neighbors. i turned it on then the car turned off, i tought it just needed gas, but it was something more serious. i tried calling the warranty company but they were closed on saturday nights. i had to wait till monday to call the warranty company so the can send a tow truck. the problem was the fuel pump didnt work anymore, ever since the same problem has happened over and over again and more problems have happened to the car. the warranty company refuses to reinburse me anything.
i was paying 156 dollars a month for their collision and comprehensive insurance, and i never got anything over the mail saying i was covered. the only time i got something was when i didnt pay for that month, so they kept calling. i was going to pay it, but that money went for fixing the car.
i regret buying that car, i live in los angeles and taking the bus is so convenient, but there are no 24 hr buses where i live, thats why i needed a car.
i am going thru a similar situation as you, exept my car still works, eventhough it keeps breaking down from the same problem. the warranty company refuses to refund my tow truck bill.

Never buy a car from them. This has been the worst experience in buying a vehicle. The cost is extremely high with terrible interest rates. The car has had several issues which they always find a way to avoid paying. Also in the year I have owned the car they have not reported my paymenst at all to the credit bureau, so if your hoping to help your credit by buying a car from them think again. Worst customer service. Save yourself the aggravation and stress and choose another company.
I BOUGHT A CAR FROM DRIVETIME THE STARTER WENT OUT A COUPLE OF MONTHS YOU HAVE TO PAY 40 DOLLARS EVERYTIME SOMETHING GO WRONG WITH THERE CAR THEN I NEED STRUTS I DON, T HAVE MONEY I TOLD THEM SOMETHING WAS WRONG WITH THE CAR A COUPLE OF DAY AFTER I PURCHASE IT .DRIVETIME IS A RIPE OFF THEY SOLD ME A 2017 FORD TARUS I FOUND OUT LATER THE CAR IS ONLY WORTH 2.000 DOLLARS THEY WANT ME TO PAY 11.000 DOLLARS FOR THE JUNK IT WILL BE 18.000 BY THE TIME I FININSH I TRIED TO GET OUT THE DEAL3 DAYS LATER AFTER I FOUND OUT I HAD GOT GOT.THEY WOULDN, T LET ME GET OUT THE DEAL.
Most unprofessional company I have ever worked for. They are very dishonest and wil do and say anything to sell you a car. I have watched them switch a customer off of one car that they qualified for and switch him to another car with that they needed to sell because it was an old age unit. Then to really make him take the car they need to get rid of they made the down payment higher on the one he wanted and lower on the one they need to get rid of. More stories to come.
I purchased a car from drivetime after 6 mos it broke down and would not start I continued to make payments while contacting drivetime all they would tell me is take a bus, and continue my payments on time I told them I am not paying for an oversized lawn ornament which is all it was good for, besides the fact they were charging 25, 000 for a car at blue book value of 2500. As soon as I could get the car going again which is 3 mos after it broke down I drove it to their lot took the keys and Gave it to them I then told them good luck getting it started, now they are sending me letters they want 9000 FOR WHAT A LAWN ORNAMENT any class action suit I am on board
I am not pleased with this company at all. The customer service department is very rude, and not easy to deal with. I wish that someone had warned me about this company before I signed my contract for the purchase of my vehicle. If you are one day late with the payment the collection department will call everyone of your references to purposely embarass you. They call all day while you're on your job. I'm not in the best of health, and I recieved a call from Drive Time while I was at work. The agent upset me so bad until I left work and went straight to the Doctor's office. My blood pressure went through the roof. My life revolves around the payments for this vehicle. With the high cost of insurance and the payments every two weeks, I'm paying close to 1000.00 a month to drive a 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe. Total rip-off. Let's write the Federal Government.
I purchased a 2017 Alero from these people in November 2017, when I first brought it home my window on the passengers side fell into the door, the y supposedly fixed it then the drivers window fell in the door again they say they fixed it, well this happened a few more times, Then in August 2017 the car would not start, I called Drivetime they asked me to get it to their mechanic to look at it, I did and was told the car was fine I brought it home it would not start for 3 weeks and for 3 weeks I called drivetime who told me I would have to get it to their mechanic and pay towing charges, I got it to their mechanic again was told the car was fine and again brought it home and again car would not start, at that point I was fed up I called drivetime to get the car I was done they refused and threatened me with garnishments on my paycheck and everything else they could think of. So like an idiot I kept paying for a vehicle that was nothing more than an oversized lawn ornament until december when I said thats it I am done especially when they tried to say it was my fault the car wasn't working. When I finally got the car started I drove it to drive time pulled in their lot and the car died right there, I handed the keys over and said good luck with it. Now I am getting letters from a collection agency for the amount due of 9, 000.00 The car was only worth blue book 2500 when they sold it to me. This company has to be stopped and if anyone knows how to start a lawsuit against them or if an attorney ever reads any of this please help all of us who have been victimized by these snakes Kyosco Phoenix, Arizona
I purchased a car from drivetime and since then have had representatives phoning me on a daily basis to "remind me" of payment due dates, if i am late at all i get about 15 calls a day on all lines. They have gone as far as finding my HR rep's name to call him just to harrass me. My caller id will have their id listed 15 times everyday and every day of the week. Isnt it illegal to phone on Sunday's? I have written a cease and desist letter requesting only to be contacted by regular mail and it hasnt stopped the calls. I dont need to be reminded to send my payments in but the more i insist they not remind me the more they harrass me. I will NEVER buy a car from them again and would suggest no one do business with such an unprofessional organization. Their entire goal is to charge hideous interest rates to folks that have allready been a victim of the economy due to that idiot Bush.
drive time is one of those companies setup so that people with bad credit can get a car. their interest rates are going to be through the roof for the simple fact that they are dealing with people with bad credit or poor credit. i have heard horror stories from people i know that bought one from them that really mirrors this complaint
If I could give one peice of advice to any one in the world it would be DO NOT BUY A CAR FROM DRIME TIME. They have no customer service skills and its all about them not the customer. yeas i do not have great credit yes i know the interest rates are high. but i needed a car and fast for that they did help. But if you want to be called ten times a day when your late one or two days and then have a punk talk try to talk you into selling your stuff to make the payment that day. then fill free. dear drive time YOU SUCK and eat SHI* thank you
DURING THE MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND, (MAY 2017) THE CAR I PURCHAASED IN JANUNARY 2017 DECIDED TO DIE. JUST QUIT RUNNING. AFTER WALKING MANY MILES TO MY HOME, BECAUSE THERE WAS NO ONE IN THE TOWING SERVICE, AND OF COURSE NO ONE IN THE WARRNTY DEPARTMENT, I WAITED UNTIL JUNE 1ST TUESDAY AND STILL COULD NOT CONTACT ANYONE UNTIL THE DEALER GOT ON THE PHONE, BECAUSE I HAD IT TOWED TO THEIR LOT.
THEN ONCE THIS HAPPEND I HAD TO PAY FOR TOWING TO A DIFFERENT TOWN FOR A REPAIR FACILITY TO LOOK AT IT. I HAVE THE 36000 MILE OR THREE YEAR WARRNTY, AND HAVE ONLY HAD THIS VEHICLE FOR 6 MONTHS. THE AC IS HAVING PROBLEMS, AND I PAID 1600.00 DOLLARS FOR BRAKE REPAIRS JUST A FEW DAYS AGO.
IF YOU ARE OFFERING A WARRNTY PLEASE HONOR IT. PLEASE QUIT SCREWING THE PUBLIC AND THE AMERICAN PEOPLE.

car problems
I purchased a car from Drive Time on Oct. 22, 2007. Not even 3 months into having the car it started to run hot. Then their was oil mixed with the coolant. I called the Drive Time I purchased the car from and they gave me the number to customer service. They sent me to their repair shop (which the car couldn't even make it to). They told me the car needed almost $1000 in repairs and Drive Time wouldn't cover it. Now I was pissed off! Not only was I paying a $350 car payment, but they wanted me to pay this also. The manager told me that out of their kindness they would pay some of the expense (not all). I ended up paying around $400. The problems the car had were major and couldn't have happened in less than 3 months. Now not even a year later, I am experiencing the same problems with the car. I am not paying ANYTHING! I am contacting a lawyer and getting out of this contract. They are a rip-off! I am paying almost 3 times what the car is worth. If anyone is starting a petition against them, let me know. I should have listened to that voice in my head telling me to walk away from that dealership.

I had just purchase a leased car from drive time in riverside California and not even 3 in 1/2 weeks later my check oil light came on said oil change is due and I took it to sears and they said it was not time and just cause the oil lite come on it doesn't mean oil needs to be change so i called drive time and they transfer me to mechanic department who fix the vehicle's but did not get any answer and I attempt 2 the following week I was driving on the fwy at night and my check engine light came on and oil a loud noise in the motor pulled over and called the number on the book where they said I had side road assistant but they where close I have to know pay for my towing then next day I called again they wont let me trade it for another car without putting more money down I know have to tow my car to the shop where they referred me too now that 2 towing and they said they will reverse me if they car had a defect also they will rent me a car . They told me this the time I leased it now I have to pay for a rental when I check motor the day it made that loud noise the car did not over heat or no oil spill anywhere can some help me and give me advice what to do
I purchased a 2007 Chrysler Pacific in 2012 and Drivetime told me the car facts report had no list of any accidents.
I tried to trade the car in less than 6 months and less than 6000 miles from the time of purchase and I had no accidents and multiple places told me they would not take it; because it had been in a prior accident. In addition I paid about $20k for the car out the door however other car dealers would not give me more than $4000.00 for the car which puts me in the black for about $16, 000 (in the hole)
How can I purchase a car and within 6 months decrease $16, 000 in 6 months?
In addition you can not trade out because you are too far up side down and no one will give you a loan for more than the car you are buying is worth. How in the Hell do I Getty out of this contract.

Ticked off DriveTime customer
7/17/12 I purchase a 04 sonota and having a problem with the car losing power, I called warranty dept and they had me take the car into one of their mechanics and had the water pump fixed, now I having the same problems, it turns out I lived close to work and did not use the car much for a year but now I have moved and using the car frequently and I am having the same problems again but drivetime is picking up the cost but cannot find the problem? The car at the mechanics and I am on hold with the warranty dept to find out what will happen with this faulty car...?
I am also among the many victims of drivetime. I bought an 07 PT Cruiser from them about a year ago, 4 months into having the car it broke down on me. A bolt fell off inside the engine & the warranty company did absolutely NOTHING to help me.. I could've sworn the engine was covered in their "warranty". I ended paying over $1, 500 to get a freaking bolt replaced! On top of that the mechanic who looked at it told me the engine was shifted & it looked like it had been in an accident! 2 months down the road the tensioner pulley assembly & the fan belt are broken! Once again their fabolous warranty company says its not covered. So here comes another $500 out of my pocket. About 1 1/2 months goes by and the thermostat and the radiator are out and again no help from the warranty company. That's another $350. 2 months from there the timing belt and the water pump go out on me & I am in stranded in the middle of nowhere with my two kids and it's snowing! Again the warranty company did nothing to help me. Another $900. Even the roadside assistance wouldn't help me because I was too far out of their servicing area! My boyfriend had to make the 2 1/2 hour drive to pick us up. Finally the last incident the car starts over-heating out of nowhere! Turns out the engine fan isn't working and once again the warranty company is no help. So instead of paying the $600 to get it fixed I'd rather have them take the car back. I CANNOT afford to pay the repair costs AND the $350 monthly payments. I agree with everyone else on this board I am DONE trying to work or pay this company! F**K DRIVETIME!
I purchased my vehicle from the Chesapeake DT in November 09. I haven't had any problems with the car, but I do have issues with their bait-and-switch practices. I was handed pamphlets about GAP protection and was told it was included in all DT car sales. My ex-husband and I BOTH recall the conversation about GAP with the sales rep. Fast-forward 8 months and I'm in an accident. There's a chance my car may be totaled. All of a sudden, DT doesn't have GAP coverage, and never did. Of course, I'm looking through the customer copies of the paperwork and it says I may be responsible for the balance on the car immediately if it's a total loss. That's $11k on a f****ing $5k car. I KNOW I was told about GAP coverage and I know there has to be something in the paperwork I signed, which is in their offices. It'll probably disappear when I file a complaint. I'm beyond done with this company!
I purchased a car from drive time in september of 2008 and had problems starting only a couple weeks after bring the lemon home. The car started by not idaling and dieing it progressesed to a very weird problem that i still don't know the cause of as i would aselarate it would slam on the brakes by it's self then it started leaking coolent to the point of not being able to drive a car i am paying $400 a month. Drive Time sells nothing but Lemons and exspects the customers to keep up payments and pay for all the repairs
Unfortunately I have to say that I am part of the Drive Time's victims. I putted myself in the middle of a nightmare, by buying a car from Drivetime. I am the kind of person that value time as a treasure, working 14 hrs. a day and assisting to university too, I don't have time for this mediocrity. So, I have to let others know the kind of bussiness they are. I bought an SUV from them in July 24th of 2009 and from day one I confronted problems with the vehicle. To begin with, the fuel gauge on the panel won't work, which I couldn't notice before buying it, because the vehicle was even marking empty when I saw it. After that, the next morning when I went and moved the car from my garage, I saw an oil leak on the floor. Another problem with the SUV. This problem itself have brought me twice to the mechanic shop in less than three months. Now, the power windows started to act out, and the driver side got totaly stuck half open, not going down neither going up. the passenger side is probably soon getting stuck too. As if this were enough, the transmission is giving signs of problems now too. I called trying to reach a reasonable deal to change the vehicle for another one in better conditions, but they are totaly stucked on the the warranty is there for that reason. But, I don't buy a used vehicle, which I'm going to pay as new price, for being in the shop every week, month, or so; not to mention all the money involved.
Drivetime you are a REAL SCAM! Very UNPROFESSIONAL! HOW DARE YOU TO BETRAY CUSTOMER'S TRUST! You are the kind of bussiness that never should have been in the market! I'will make sure this doesn't happen longer more, sooner or later!
To all the ppl Drivetime has affected,
Take a look at these websites:

Carmax has just filed a major lawsuit on Drivetime because of their business practices. This is very likely going to put them out of business! I am an ex employee of 4 yrs and know first hand that they don't have a leg to stand on. This will most likely be the end of the choas. Just thought that would make the day of alot of ppl out there.

buyer beware
I recently made the mistake of buying a vehicle from this organization. If I have to walk, ride a horse, or just stay at home and never leave again, I will never ever buy from these people again. On the day the payment is due, they call, usually early in the morining to see exactly what time you will be in to pay.
They are all smiles when you buy, but don't be a little late on the payment or you will be harrassed like you have never imagined, they will constantly call you, and even start calling the 10 references they require you to give when you fill out the credit application. If you can possibly avoid these people, do it.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
Drivetime is the worst! They had the nerve to call my neighbors that I don't know instead of the ten references I provided when I was late with a payment! Buyer beware! ...then when I called to complain the manager said this is a usual practice.
I also bought a vehicle from these guys and within 6 months the transmission failed and they wouldnt pay a dime, so I let them come tow it away. You would think they would try to fix the problem, but instead they are happy to report REPOSSESION on your credit report for faulty abused autos, and probably patch up your old car just enough to have some other sucker drive away in it...STAY CLEAR...You have better odds at a lemon lot.
worst experience ever
At the age of 20 I decided to purchase a car something in my name to build my credit. I bought a 2003 Honda Element. I figured it was my best option based on my credit and not having anyone to co-sign for me. Tonight, AFTER 3 years of working my ### of to make my $400.00/month payments, (200-bi-weekly payments) I take a look at my credit report because i'm trying to clear-up the small medical debt I have and realize that Drivetime has been reporting me negatively for the past few months. Around November 08' I applied and got approved to defer my loan (4 payments) they approved to push the defered payments to the back end of my loan and PROMISED that the account would remain in good standing. Since, I have made every payment on time. Now my credit report reflects me having a 16, 000 debt with them?... My loan will be satisfied late 2010. I'm a little confused on how to resolve this considering that I can seem to get any of the drivetime employees to assist me at the corp. office. I also looked at who has been looking at my credit report and they have viewed my credit more than five times over the past 2 years. Just because I have financed a vehicle with them does that give them authorization to do so? Please send me an email if you can help.

Since you don't have the $30-$50 to pull your CARFAX, pretend you want to trade it in. Basically, go to a dealership and ask what it's worth. They will pull the CARFAX and hurt your feeling for free. Don't be surprised when you noticed that your vehicle has had more than five owners in three years. I've purchased these junkers for another ez-credit type dealer. None, let me repeat myself, none of these vehicles are in good shape. 1% of the vehicles at DriveTime will be foreign. American cars are cheap to buy, service, and replace parts. Foreign cars are the complete opposite.
As far as you financing a vehicle with a salvage title, that's a possibility. I've never met a responsibile buyer that would buy a salvage vehicle. But let's be honest, DriveTime doesn't have the best track record. If it has a salvage title, check your state laws and go from there.
Good luck!
P.S All cars will aventually need substantial service performed on them. This is common knowledge for any car buyer. The higher the miles, the greater risk of more repairs. DriveTime is not responsible for fixing all the problems after a certain point. Dealing with car repairs, salesman, interest rates, etc... will always be aggravating. Step back and think how employees of the car industry feel after reading your comments. Remember, every story has two sides.
I am not here to comment, just to inform you all and give you my opinion as a DT Customer...
Most of these complaints are probably 50% valid and in some way, some how, the customer has experienced a bad situation with DT Credit Corp or the Dealership for that matter; regardless if it was a financial difficulty or a matter concerning car trouble, but what I do know as a current customer of DT, is that no customer should have to read the horrifying comment from one of DT's employees and have to put up with how this employee refers to the customers; afterall we are why this employee has a job and if it weren't for us who pay for these vehicles and deal with DT Corp then this guy or gal would not currently be working for them, so my advise to DT, is get rid of this person. He or She has proven himself/herself to be completely unprofessional both to the Dealership he represents and moreover to his customers who put food on his table and pay his bills! So now let's see who has the better laugh;-)
In regards to the vehicles, yes they are not the best... I am currently experiencing some trouble with mine which I just purchased in December and suppossedly DT conducts an entire overhaul of the engine...ummmm makes you wonder... the water pump just went out on it, car over heated & shut down the ac; while at the repair shop, they noticed that the car was leaking transmission oil from the coolant line and pan; DT Corp says it's not covered under warranty and it costs over 400 dollars just to fix those two things, but what they do say is that "if the transmission was to entirely go bad, then they would fix the interior components of the tranny, but no the exterior"... Now, I wonder if it's left like that and messes up worse as a result of the minor leak from the coolant line, are they going to say later that the transmission is not covered due to the mechanical repairs not being done; though how can any customer afford to pay those type of repairs considering that the vehicle was purchased in December (it's suppossed to be in good condition with the whole overhaul they did) plus the customer is unfortunately paying extremely high dollars per month to have and maintain this vehicle due to having to purchase it at DT as a result of unforseen poor credit situations which resulted from divorce. Yes, in my opinion DT is not very reliable for their customers, very hard to get a hold of in a tough vehicle breakdown situation as what happened to me, interest rates is outrageous, and the warranty is a joke considering my car has a major repair needed and it recently came off their car lot. Had I known this before, and would have not been in a tough situation, I would have gone to someone else instead. As for the vehicle car fax report...I think it's insane, my car is chipping everywhere on the drivers side and looks as though it's been in a wreck, (painted all underneath, refurbished areas, chipping paint, (hmm; that all doesn't seem right) but they said the report came back negative for any accidents...I have yet to confirm that; I do believe the car was wrecked, it may have not been salvaged or put on the title, but definately the car was crashed and unfortunately I did not catch that when I purchased it from DT, so now I am stuck with it until I can verify the VIN and find out about this major mechanical repair... other then that, the car does run like a champ and is very comfortable on long trips and everywhere. As for the payment options, I'm glad I read the comments here because that was just offered to me due to my current tough situation, but I don't think I will be accepting the offer if they are going to hinder my credit report as they did to the other custormer who reported it; not good customer service at all and it doesn't benefit the customer in any way, it just places them in more of a hardship:(
Good luck all of you, think twice before you buy from them...
check out the car in broad day light, test drive it and look for paint underneath, take the VIN home before you buy it and run it on www.carfax.com
Once you can fix your credit, refinance the car; DT rates are overly priced and high high interest (it's a rip off)
**and if you really must purchase a car from DT like I had too, don't put up with sales people who are as----oles (like the one from DT who posted previously on this site); you're a customer and afterall they have a job Thanks to you, so they should be Thankful to you for paying their car note, their bills & putting food on their table!
@jetnoise
DriveTime serves a purpose, correct? Yes, DriveTime provides vehicles and financing for people that are unable to do so anywhere else. These customers have every right to be annoyed, but they seem to be forgetting that someone took a chance and financed them. Bad credit + low income = few options.
DriveTime is the perfect example of a risk/reward relationship.
RISK: Financing people with terrible credit.
REWARD: High interest rates, high montly payments, and high selling prices.
(Sidebar, you can sell a car for as much as you want. The job of the salesman is to sell for as much as possible. The job of the customer is to buy as cheap as possible. THE JOB OF THE CUSTOMER GOES AWAY WHEN TERRIBLE CREDIT ENTERS THE EQUATION!
In closing, I would advise these customers to buy a bike. Riding a bicycle will save you money, help you lose weight, and reduce your carbon footprint. I don't have the patientce to argue over these "rats" anymore.
P.S. "rats is what car people call customers with [censor] credit. Pretty funny, huh?
I agree. Why would a current and such highly dedicated staff member be on a complaint forum for the company he supposedly represents. SELLING HIS SOUL? The customer service is pleasent upon purchasing yet altered therafter. "We're only here to help, " they say. HA. I personaly witnessed them charge triple the kelly book value at 24%. Its an outrage and from what I can observe is highway robbery. Home mortage crisis for the automobile industry (in a nutshell). Just one of the many contributing situations of our CURRENT recession. My opinion: The evil enitity of Drivetime & "the approval guy" should NO LONGER EXIST due to the simplicity of basic morals alone. Its also clearly obvious they're employees are brain washed at orientation...
You are all dumb! Pay attention to your contracts before you stick your foot in your mouth. 90% of these complaints start off with "when I didn't make my payment..." Well make your [censor]ing payments! Because you're late on a car payment you automatically think the company who sold you the car is evil? If you bought a vehicle at any other dealership, the would send all your info to the bank, one of the 15 banks that hit your credit and knocked down your score, so if anything pertaining to payments is an issue, then handle it with a bank. The dealership can't help, they sell cars...they don't fix cars or deal with your past due debts. DT customers that make their payments on time and take care of their vehicles are very happy. I would know, I work there as a sales associate. We have 36mo/36, 000mile warranties and we sell good products. The liars who said they bought a vehicle from DT that was owned by a little old lady in sarasota are stupid. We buy vehicles at fleet/rental/leased vehicle auctions, not vehicles that were privately owned that we have no maintenance records on. Quit lying and trying to make a company look bad just because you're an illiterate, ignorant, incompitent piece of [censor] who doesn't take are of your vehicle or financial responsibilities. I may seem harsh, but my point is simple. Don't believe all the bad [censor] you hear. People are liars and they tend to pin blame on others when they catch themselves in a negative situation when they know they are wrong. Hahaha. All of your guys' complaints are just [censor]ed. Take personal accountability for your own actions! My god you idiots, stupidity is dangerous, and as it appears, contageous with you all. If you believe these [censor]s, feel free to purchase at a different dealership. Just keep in mind, when you are shopping, the significance of a warranty and vehicle history report. I must sound like a major [censored], but since I work for DT and I know exactly how things are there. I believe we are putting customers into a solid reliable vehicle and backing these products up with many benefits. I failed to mention that if you do discover items wrong with your vehicle that are not detailed on your experian history report, experian actually purchases the vehicle back as stated in the experian buyback protection guarantee. Thank you all for listening to my abrasive comment and I apoligize for any foul language if it offended you. The rest of you can sit on it and rotate...[censor]es! Ha
Thanks all for your comments I was about to go to that place and get a car but now I know the truth. I really appreciate your comments.

vehicles sold by them
I Mickey L. Lattimore went to the Drive Time Automobile on Memorial Drive, Stn. Mtn. Ga. On 2/20/2008 to purchase a vehicle. I was introduce to a sales rep(name goes here) who allowed me to look at the vehicles on the lot. I chose a Kia Otima LX 2004. The Sales Rep. had me fill out the necessary paperwork, while I completed the paperwork, the sale rep ran my credit and stated they could help me get into the vehicle which I had choosen for $1200.00 down. I informed the sales rep. I only had at that time a total of $200.00. The Sales Rep stated you can put the vehicle on lay-o-away so I made a down deposit of $200.00 on a 2004 Kia Optima LX that had about 52, 000 miles.
While two weeks past, I went to Drive Time and made another payment of $500.00 on the vehicle I had on lay-away, leaving a balance of $500 left. Well the sales rep stated they had the same/similar vehicle with less mileage about 48, 000 and I could take it that day for the $700.00 I had already applied to my original Kia which I had choose. Red Flags immediately went up. I asked what’s wrong with it and of course they would say nothing.
Since driving the vehicle off of drive time’s lot on March 15, 2008, I’ve had nothing but problems with this vehicle. I’ve had to replace the front brakes, the power steering pressure hose went out, the driver’s side door lock locks itself back when you unlock it with the key and attempt to open the door using the handle. The passenger window doesn’t let up correctly it’s off track. I’ve had to replace the battery, I have also had to replace the coil and spark plugs.

I got this 05 explorer didn't have It a month yet...Drive time sold me a death trap...Vehicle has no brakes 2 major oil leaks...my front struts are leaking...I also have a rear axle leak and also the front sway bar on and links on both sides are broke...They sold me this vehicle knowing it should not be on the road...Then the warranty company is giving ne a run around and Chris Lott from Drive time is flat out dodging me...Took the truck to ford for the heater not working and they found all these major issues... Ford notified the warranty company and they acted like the never heard anything about these issues... So the warranty company decides they don't want to deal with ford when they was confronted about why did drive time sell a vehicle like this that its a safety hazard driving this vehicle... So the warranty company had Chris Lott from drive time inform me that they wanted me to take the truck to a repair shop of their choice for a second opinion... That shop is Perfection Auto Repair... And I did that today...And Perfection told them the same thing Ford told them and Perfection would not release my vehicle back to me because it's not safe to drive at all...Now Chris Lott and the warranty company has been avoiding me and the repair shop all day...Something needs to be done about drive time and their bad business... I'm look to file suit against them and the warranty company...
I also have paperwork from Perfection on what needs to be done to make this vehicle safe to drive... And I also have the original video from Ford also

Drive Time preys on people that are severely credit challenged because they have no other alternative for transportation. I have heard supervisors stating that Drive Time predicts that a very large percent of their loans will go to collections, and possible repossession. In my financing experience in the auto business at another dealer, we could never get a loan funded based on the qualifications that I saw in the Drive time customer accounts. I wanted to bring this to your attention with the hope that some agency will look into this practice. Customers, were cheated and forced to accept the terms because they have very bad credit. I have thought this practice was bordering PREDATORY LENDING. So I did some research and found this definition; In the strictest and legal sense of the word Predatory lending refers to secured loans such as home or car loans which are made by the lender with the intention that the borrower can't really pay them which would allow the lender to seize the car or home and sell it for a profit. The word has been expanded to refer to the practice of convincing borrowers to agree to unfair and abusive loan terms. This could be done either through outright deception or through aggressive sales tactics, taking advantage of borrowers' lack of understanding of extremely complicated transactions. Predatory loans, for instance, for the purchase of a home, could lead to foreclosure. Beware when you signed the contracts. It is a widely used practice that the DT sales staff rushes the customer through so that they really do not read what they are signing. Thanks for reading:)

In October 2015 my daughter went to Drive Time to purchase a vehicle. Her sales rep told her due to her credit score not being great she would have to pay a higher down payment unless she had a co-signer. I went to co sign after work. After my credit was ran I was told it would be better if I was the lead on the car as my credit was stronger. I said that can't be possible with my income to own two cars as I had just brought a new 2015 Malibu and my chapter 7 was discharged in 2015. He said "oh you can, and once you have had it a couple of months just bring your daughter in and we can transfer the car to her name. Well it is now August which is more than a few months and they told her they do not transfer car loans. I said the devil is a liar as that is what the sales rep said.
Then she said well can I trade it for another car and get my name added. They said no not unless you owe less than $2000. I am more than pissed as we were lied to, had to have breaks replaced after 2 months as the mechanic asked if the car was purchased up north as there was a lot of water damage and rust inside the wheels which is signs the car had been immersed in water. Then to say they don't want to trade it or do what they originally said. The only reason I have not dropped it off as I do not want a negative on my credit.
Please add me to lawsuit and help me with this matter. dijuja@yahoo.com
Kind regards.
I'm glad I read all your comments I was planning on buying a car from drive time but no more! I'm sorry about all the people that had so much problems with drivetime. People like that you wonder how they sleep at night, how they can screw people. Shame on them!
Thank You all so much for the useful comments. I will admit that I damaged my credit pretty bad when I was younger and after getting out of my last relationship, it was damaged even more. I currently have a car but was looking to trade it in for something more reliable and discovered Drive Time. I must admit that I have it pretty good with my current finance company especially after reading about the phone calls 1 day after payment is due. I WILL NOT be going to Drive Time and I wish you all better luck with your next purchase!
Once again, I should have checked the complaints board before buying a car from Drivetime. Paid over $5000 for the car at 29%. I had a divorce where my ex ran up everything and I had to file BK. Now I have to let companies like this take advantage of me also.
I called to try and get a lower interest rate after paying for my car ontime everymonth for a year and even spoke to the District Manager Tomas Duckworth. He informed me that he had not authority to do anything. (why is he running a bunch of stores then? He was very evasive in his answers.) Then I called the regional office after getting the number from a cashier in the office. I lef10 messages before the so called Regional Manager Keith Sarchett called me back. He very politely told me I am stuck with the interest rate and because of my past credit I deserved it and was lucky to even have a car financed! What a quiet little jerk! i will never use this company again and cannot trade the car in because it is $5000 upsidedown now.
car dealers like this really need to be put out of business and everyone needs to get an attorney to put them out of business for good. this is bad business practice and there are laws on this for those that need it. no one should have to go through what these people have gone by in buying a car and then having all of these problems. the FTC in washington needs to be contacted on this dealership in the sense of a BAD BUSINESS complaint to be filed by all of those involved with this company. the best of luck to all of you who have had problems with this company. you really woke me up with your comments and its appreciated. THANKS
I was doing some research about drive time auto sales and was a little distrubed about the comments of other customers, and found out that others had similar issues. My question to others is, why are we letting this happen over and over again. Could it be that we can't do any better, and putting the blinders on. The problem we are having is, we purchased a 2006 HHR and on the second day, it was discovered that it was wrecked . It was immediately brought back to the sale manager's attention on the second day. On the second day he encouraged us to give DTI service a chance to help us, instead of letting us return the car back and giving us the opportunity to select a better car. I feel that we got played. The car has been in the shop for front struts; the steering column has been replaced, and it has been in and out of the shop since the purchased of the car, and it has high mileage. ( in the 86 thousand neighborhood)! Car make Winding noise when the air is on, and has a bad order and the carpet is stain real bad, it makes loud noise when it hits heavy bumps, needs sway bar brushes, left head light needs to be replaced due to car accident that was not reported, different shade of paint is on the car, and only could tell once was washed. The though of having to make payments on time gets next to me because, I was not given the opportunity to make it right. I feel that we did our part in bringing it back on the second day, but was railroaded a different direction. Can anyone feel the heart of us?
Sorry, the Regional manager is Keith Sarchett I mistyped his name. Same idiot, different spelling of the name.
I worked for drivetime until I heard the Manager, Thomas Duckworth, and Regional Manager Keith Sachett joking about a customer and the car they bought. They were placing bets on how long the car would last and at least they received $900 down payment instead of sending the car away for disposal at auciton or somewhere else.
Keith Sachett won the bet (can you believe it he is a regional manager) when the car broke down and they had to repo it 3 months later as I wias told by an ex co worker of mine who still works there.
If you get a car you cant afford, then it is your fault. If your payment is late and you dont like getting called, pay your bill on time. To the salesman that told the long story that sounded so untrue. Get a Job Loser.
I worked for Drive Time. When I worked there, I tried very hard to make sure that people only got cars that they could actually afford. This made my sales run low, naturally, as I was not willing to place people at risk like the other sales reps.
I resigned the day that a young woman came to me. She had just turned 18, was entering college, and needed a very basic car to get to and from school and work. She was very sensible about what she could and could not afford, She worked part-time as a home care aide and needed to also have a car big enough to allow her to transport patients who used wheelchairs.
As luck would have it, we had a car I knew would be reliable for her and had plenty of room for a chair to fold into the trunk. The seats were not too low to the ground, which we decided would make it feasible to move aptients from their chairs to the car.
I filled out the paperwork, made sure all the numbers matched, and took the forms to the lot manager. He took her to the office to review the closing. I noted that he and this young woman left his office for a moment, and this was unusual, but I was not to interrupt the manager during a closing, so I waited. When the young woman left the office, she did not go to the car I had arranged a sale for, but instead to a small sports car. Not only did everyone on the lot know that this car had serious wiring issues that caused the windows and radio to stop working at random, but it was easily four times the cost of the car I had set up the sale for.
I approached the lot manager about the matter and told him that she couldn't afford the payments on that car and wanted to know what happened. As it turns out, he had both her mother and her boyfriend of four months co-sign for her. By adding in all 3 incomes, there was enough income to justify the loan. I knew from my conversations with the young woman that her mother was a single mother who was drawing state assistance to care for her younger siblings since their father had disappeared several years before. I also knew that the boyfriend was not someone she was serious about at that time and that she wasn't sure they would stay together. That lot manager put the financial and educational future of this girl at risk to move the car he thought he needed to move to make his own numbers look better.
Then he gave credit for the sale to another salesperson.
I was so angry that I packed my desk and left. I took the young woman's phone number with me and called her. I explained to her what was at risk and that she had 72 hours to return the car and retrieve her down payment. Then I referred her to a sales agent at another lot that I knew would deal honestly with her and called ahead for her to fill the other sales agent in on what was happening. I was out a job, but the girl got a car she could afford without endangering herself or anyone else, and I could sleep at night.
Drive Time lots, universally, teach their sales people a variety of techniques to force people into buying cars that they can't afford. Many of their cars have serious mechanical issues that will not appear immediately. The mechanics admitted to me many times that they were simply putting a band-aid on these issues to make sure the cars ran until they could be sold. The cars are all sold as-is. That means that if you buy from them and stress your budget to do so, you will not be able to afford repairs when (not if, when) they are needed. This endangers your safety, depending on the issue, your job, your finances, and more.
A "joke" on the lot I worked for was that there had literally been a man who bought a car only to have the engine burst into flame less than a mile from the lot. As he was not able to return the car, the lot told him he could not have his money back because there was no warranty. The other sales reps there thought this was funny. I find it disgraceful.
Do not do business with these people. From the other side, I can tell everyone that yes, these people are predators.

In September 2004 I purchased a 2002 Chevy Cavalier from DriveTime. The vehicle was way over priced but considering the fact that I had less than great credit and very little money for a down payment, this was my only option because I needed a dependable car to make it to work everyday... I was in jeopardy of losing my job at that time because of an unreliable car.
So... I continued to make bi-weekly payments of $194 for the next 14 months. In November 2005 my car was stolen. I reported it to the police; 2 days later it was involved in a high speed pursuit. The car was badly damaged and towed to a lot. When I went to the lot to pick up my car, they told me my bill was near $600. I did not have the money then so I could not take my car. I notified DriveTime of the car being stolen and provided them with a copy of the police report and the location of the car. I told them I would honor my lease contract and continue making payments and I made my next payment for the beginning of December.
Approximately 2 weeks later DriveTime notified me that they had picked up my vehicle from the tow lot and were placing it under repossession. I received a letter in January 2006 that my vehicle was sold at an auction for $50 and I was obligated to pay the amount still owed on my loan, somewhere around $9000. How could DriveTime repo a vehicle I was still making payments on, and then without my knowledge, sell it at an auction for $50 and send me a bill for the difference? AND - Aren't I, by law, entitled to a notice of intent to sell before it actually takes place so that I have the ability to buy my car back? WTF!
Later that year I received a call from a collection agency regarding the loan amount owed. I explained to them the circumstances and that there was an on-going investigation regarding the car. The agent said they could not pursue a collection because of the criminal investigation. Now in November 2008 I am receiving calls from more collection agencies asking me to pay this debt; they are even contacting me at work when I have told them they cannot call me at my place of business under federal law.
I realize that under normal circumstances I would be obligated to pay a debt owed for this vehicle. But DriveTime went about this illegally! And I can only hope that I have some type of case against DriveTime that would dismiss my debt for their unlawful acts!

I have paid $14, 717 towards a 2010 impala, my activity log says that out of 2yrs & 9mth of payments only $78. went towards Principal. I was told at drivetime with bridgecrest and they both stated that I've paid 6, 500 towards Principal but my receipts says different.
Im a drivetime customer and they lied to me also. They told me that i would be able to refinance my loan with them after 24 months of on time payments not they tell me that drivetime never references their loans so they lied just to make a sale. Now im 4 years into making payments and still owe 10500 on a 2008 dodge grand caravan SXT and im finding it nearly impossible to keep up with the payments due to severe health problems. Now I've called them on the phone to discuss my options but they wont lower my payments or extend my loan agreement. Total ripoffs. They should be put out of business
Drivetime is a fraud they told me I had three
To get my truck back and sold at auction 3, 100
An me to pay them $10, 000 dollars for rest the
Loan and told no because they cheated me plus did me wrong
They need to shut them down they are get overs wish I would of seen this site befor I brought that lemon ...
Drivetime repo my car and now trying to charge me 50 to get my belongings I'm not gonna pay that my birth certificate and nurses aid in that car and I'm gonna get it back I will be calling leagal aid their cars lemons anyway and to high at that I been told them to come get their peace of junk back warranty sum bs and they are too
sgfsfsdf please get your head out of ur a... drivetime sells lemons. you MUST work for corporate. we are going through the same thing. please don't let drive time fool u. they DON'T HONOR THEIR WARRANTIES.
192 x 2 = 388.00 per month
388.00 x 14months= $5, 432.00
You claim you owed 9, 000?
Well, you should read your contract. Take ten minutes and explore the section that discusses what happens after your car is repossessed. Trust me, the information is there, and it's easy to understand.
You should be sued by DriveTime for slander.
awful company
First of all I want to let you all know that we have never ever missed a payment to this company. If I could turn back time we would have never bought a car from Drivetime. They raked us over the coals after 'approving' us wanting to know the names and phone numbers of 3 (three) family members, 3 personal friends, employers, etc. Granted, if a person skips out on them they would need to know numbers of people to contact who might aide them in recovering their money or vehicle, but this company is just over the top when it comes to calling their customers.
Our car note is due every other Friday in the amount of $190.00. Actually, I am a co-signer on this loan for my boyfriend... I always make the payments. We moved out of the Dallas area to Houston in April 2008 and when we moved I contacted Drivetime and gave them our new address and my boyfriends new job info and told them that his paydays had now changed and we would be making the truck payment on Monday rather than Friday because that is how he is paid.
Every other week they call us wanting to know why the payment wasn't made. Twice they have called my son at work because they didn't see a payment posted yet on Friday and there was no answer at our home number. That was the reason they gave me as to why they called my son on his job. They call all the time. If you are not home and they get an answering machine they will have no qualms about calling at 10:00 p.m. at night or even calling people whom you have on your reference list. This is absolutely ridiculous.
If we were 3 business days late paying our car loan and they had exhausted all of my numbers trying to reach me (they didn't even try calling on my cell # that they have for me) I might understand a bit more. We have never missed making a payment to these people and are never later than paying on the Monday following the Friday it is normally due. One time we were in Alabama at a funeral and they were unable to reach us on a Monday morning. They called my son again at work wanting to know if he knew where we were. These people are absolutely ridiculous.
Like I said earlier, I had given them my boyfriends new pay day schedule and they refuse to make the payment due on Monday, one business day later than what we had signed for. I would never recommend you purchase one of their vehicles, not only for the exorbitant amount of money you will be paying for a vehicle and the huge interest rate and high payments, but for the way their customer service handles their business. They do not communicate to each other in the office, do not make notations in your file and just last payment time I received 2 phone calls in one day from them asking the same information as to why I had not made the car payment yet.
I despise the Monday mornings every other week now, when I know they are going to be calling and harassing me to make the payment when I always do make it after 3:00 p.m. every other Monday. Never again and if you don't want problems with these people... don't buy from them either. Another 4 years we have to deal with them. I think I'm going to be sick now.
Linda is the worst one in the credit department. She loves her job.

Ok so I just got off the phone with Drivetime ! They called me 5 times today and I just got out of work and returned the phone call.
They said I was 2 days late, but my ticket book that was provided when I purchased the car showed my payments this month were due on the 12th and the 26th. Their records show it was due on the 5th and the 19th. This rude, ghetto customer service person - Jackie - said there was nothing she could do. I asked her if I could fax over my copy in order to verify that I'm not lying therefore I don't want that reflected on my credit. She kept speaking loudly over me saying it wasn't her that messed up and my car payment is due every 14 days, I should know that.
Excuse me? I'm a busy person and unlike her, I'm not a complete dullard. She insulted my intelligence insinuating I don't know how to count and was so extremely rude. I pay according to the ticketbook DRIVETIME provided for me. I bought the car because I thought it was a good deal, but with this type of customer service I should have taken my business elsewhere. I hung up on her and called back. A gentleman said he would put a notation in my file that there was some confusion and gave me a fax number to send it to.
With that attitude you'll be making 9 bucks an hour for the rest of your life answering calls at Drivetime, Jackie. I will be sure to email whoever I can to let them know how unprofessional and rude this girl was.
I think the above comment response indivdual may be a drivetime employee, For, with all the complaients about drive time She is partly right. The salesmen and manager refer to customer as roaches and only care about their commissions. It's time to United a file aclass action suit against Drivetime .. By the way the above comment with all the vugar words. needs to grow-up. Drivetime is not all it's cracked up to be and as for quality product (cars) . Yes, contracts need to be honored..Yet, so does not selling Ugly duckling cars under a diferent name. I hope the Federal Goverment Consumer quality and fraud unit comes on board for Drive time really needs to be investigated for sub standard vehicles and Consumer Fraud
i think this ### is full of ###. I bet if you check her credit she has charge offs repos and late pays. she needs to grow the ### up and be responsible for the contracts she signs. Drivetime sells a quality product but she probably doesn't qualify for anything but a go-cart.
lies lies lies
My husband and I leased a car from drivetime in june of 07. Our car payment was 402 a month for a 2003 chevy malibu. we went to the dealership in austin texas and worked with a guy buy the nae of sofoa. Once we got the car it was like he no longer existed. We could never talk to him when we had problems and he never returned our calls. We were also told that if friends and family used us as refrences that we would get some sort of credit for this, and that was a total LIE! Unless my husband and I knew the references home address, date of birth and where they worked we didn't get the credit. We also made the mistake of being late on a payment and thats when all hell broke loose. We were harrased, our friends and family as well. I was even told how do i sleep at night knowing that my car payment is late. We went back and forth with these guys, And then at 3 a.m. our car is towed for being short 40 dollars. and know we owe them 11, 306. We are warning you STAY AWAY FROM DRIVETIME!
PLEASE LISTEN TO THIS COMPLAINT AND STAY AWAY FROM DRIVE TIME! They are only out for themselves and not the consumer. They will call and harass you, your family and friends constantly even if you are ONE day late. They are like finance company MAFIA!
scam and rip off
I purchased a 2003 chevy malibu in December of 2007. This was my first car and had no credit I went to Drivetime and was approved. Everything was fine until Febuary right after my warranty wasn't valid my car starts leaking antifreeze and smoking I have it took to the Chevy dealership. turns out I had a heater core and gas intake leak which was 1, 500. I contact Drivetime to see if I could get any assistance because I had had the car for 2 months! They tell me they can do a repair loan so I ended paying for half any the paid for half but I had to still pay them back along with the 366.00 car note a month, I paid 200.00 dollars a month along with the car payments until I paid the loan back. Less than a week later it leaks anti freeze AGAIN! I had it towed to chevy dealership and once again notified them I am still having problems the Loan department agent told me I quote " take a man to the dealership, they screwed you it's there fault. So once again no help from them. I ended paying 200.00 then to once again get my car out the shop. July of 2008 my radiator went out and once again back at the shop the bill this time was 600.00 once again Drivetime told me I was responsible for the repairs, and since I previous had a loan contract I wasn't able to get another loan because I already had one in the last 6 months. so once again money out of my pocket. so now that I am 3 payments behind they wonder why, they have harassed me at work, home, and my family members. They have no compassion and are the worst dealership. DONT NOT BUY! you will regret and be in debt.
bad attitudes, scams and poor customer service.

Bad business @ Midlothian Trnpk. in Richmond, Va.Drivetime... we only 50 dollars behind and they call your house, job, landlord... and family members in other cities... real nasty attitude from one employee named Falon, really not customer friendly and hurts the entire business! Do not buy there!
Hey,
If you had lived a better life (paying bills when due), you could avoid dealing with companies like DriveTime. Pretty simple. Quit taking out loans for things and not repaying them. I don't think I can be any clearer.
out of control financing
Drivetime, the go to guys for what? A big phat giant headache. I read another complaint, and it was like I was reading the story of my car. What a piece of crap! I coulda have had my parents cosign on a new car, but i wanted to do it all by myself. Cause that is what you do when you are almost done college and living on your own. You grow up. So wrong...
Listen to what has happened on my loan.
1. the lost a total of 5 payments now. I have had to keep a copy of every check i ever gave them because they lost 5 of them.
2. i needed to change my payment date to correspond with my pay checks... some f**r named "Sean" told me no problem. Ill go ahead and change it. He forgot to tell me there was a fee and paperwork to do that. So for 6 months I mad my payment later because Sean said it was changed and I didn't need a new payment book. When i found out... it was my problem. 6 months worth of late fees on a simple interest loan. 600 extra bucks for them.
3. I mail the checks certified now with tracking #s. They sign for them and still call to tell me I am late.. but they have the check sitting uncashed..
4. I cant have a pay off figure on my car cause the payment is late ( even though they have the check in house)
5. And my favorite this month. A NSF fee from Drivetime for a check they have, have not even sent to my bank. The money is still sitting in my account, and i am on 6 days of phone calls threatening voicemail, and late fees.
Seriously. Take the bus, buy a bike, bum a ride with a friend. Anything would be better then the hell you are about to encounter...
Wow, both of you need to visit this website : http://www.grammarbook.com/
Now, let's discuss what are complaining about. I should have stopped after this "A big phat giant headache", but I felt compelled to continue. Your bad credit will never benefit you in life. Shut up and be happy that someone offered you credit.
I can't stand customers like you. Like you, simply means people with terrible credit. I try and keep an open mind, but all of you are the same, no exceptions.

Please include me email address is andralynea2787@icloud.com I was not happy with them at all from the beginning right after we brought the car home we started having issues with it over heating the O2 sensors going out and when we called them about it they said they couldn’t do anything about it and couldn’t take the car back till it had $1, 000 to $2, 000 left owed on it and these problems have been since I first got the car
Please include me. Email address is dayna71@icloud.com. They are threatening to come get my car because of an issue with registration and I made payments to bridgecrest on time and am not in default on my contract and am still within the 45 days that sc gives to register the car yet I was told to hand over paperwork to them in 24 hours or return the car. On what grounds... I’m hiring a lawyer tomorrow!

My email is akairish26@gmail.com if you need to write me
Please add me to the list! My story isnt much different then the other previous complaints. They charge interest fee's in the same amount as the car! I have been paying thousands of dollars on on my car for years. Come to find out I have only paid about $1600.00 un total towards the principle. The other several of thousands I have paid are going towards the interest.
Is this still going on. From a 14k car that the sold me 3 years later i still owe them 16k add me to it if still going on thebestkdc10@gmail.com
I’m in the same situation as everyone one else, however it’s even worse as I have paid for my vehicle for almost 3 years & now I find out my payoff is more than twice what the vehicle is worth. Omg I’m just sick as now I’m in a better credit situation but being so upside down in the vehicle that keeps giving me problems & of course none of it’s covered under their so called warranty. So please do add me to whatever suit you are able to bring against them. It’s sickening how they price gouge people who are going through a tough time.

I agree wholeheartedly. I'm in deep for wanting a cheap SUV from drive time. I didn't exist on the "credit" map yet so i went there as i saw a commercial on ESPN. Long story short, i am completely unsatisfied with, not only the vehicle they screwed me with, but the actual loan. The whole situation is so messed up and i can only imagine how people feel when the situation is even worse. My email is Supergt116@gmail.com. I will respond with any info you may need.
I agree whole heartedly. My husband went to buy me a car as as gift. He came home with a car similar to what I wanted, when I read about the terms, conditions, and the stuff they got him to add on, I was like $30, 000 for a $10, 000 car. No way. I'm beyond pissed. He has a higher than a credit card interest rate and he paid like $1500 down. Complete insanity and in my opinion, they need to be shut down. They will help you regardless of credit. Hopefully, you have bad credit already, cause you aren't going to be able to make payments that high, ours are $225 every two weeks for over 5 years. That's the price of a new car, actually higher. My sister bought a 17 gonna accord with the bells and whistles, paid nothing down, and her payments are $386 a month. I want to be included in This lawsuit.
Please add me. Rena3795ann@gmail.com. New transmission after 2 weeks of having the car. Had spend money on a rental. Car note coming up for a car I have been unable to drive. What a rip off. Sold me a lemon. I'm getting the run around from everyone.
poor service
I bought a truck with my girlfriend from drivetime here in Arizona. We went to drivetime and bought a 2002 Ford ranger pick up truck. For 13, 056 and we have paid on it for eight months and we still owe 12, 500. The percentage rate is 49%. Can they do that? They put the truck in my girlfriends name and I am the one with the driver's license. Have you ever heard of such a thing? The truck needed to be repaired within the first 30 days of ownership. The warranty covered it. It has been ok since. What I am pissed at, is that drive time scared my 82 year old mother by trying to get her to give them her banking info. They threatened to take our truck when I was only a half a payment later.

i feel just because you have bad credit doesnt mean your a bad person, circumstances can lead to bad credit, in my case i did it all. i didnt pay my bills and my credit is bad. You still dont take advantage of people because, if youre going to mark up the car, give a decent interest rate, if youre going to have a high rate dont mark up car that much. drivetime is bad about both, i knew my rate was going to be high and the car was over priced, but its the price you pay for decisions you made in past. i will tell you this, if you can by a DT car any other car lot in the nation should finance you just on a signature...lol!
The reason why a lot of people come to DriveTime is because they are in the same position that I'm in, they don't have credit. I am 20 years old and its time for me to get a new car, my parents what me to take on the payments myself and i have no problem with that. It's just that i have NO CREDIT because I dont have a credit card or any loans. I don't start paying my student loans off until i am done with school. And all because you have bad credit doesn't mean you have to shut up and not complain when your getting screwed over. so "sgfsfsdf" you need to find something better to do with your life then you put people down, it doesn't make you cool.
To all of you, "Please check text spelling before submitting a comment"
I have read all of your complaints, and I am disgusted with all of you. Grow up, quit complaining, and accept that you have bad credit. Bad credit doesn't allow you to be picky. Be happy that someone is allowing you to ride in a vehicle that they own.
[censor], you customers are so stupid.
Yeah, this is what Drivetime does. They will harass you for a dollar if that's what you owe. Whether it's hundreds or thousands of dollars, or even a few dollars, they will harass you the same. I think this company is taking a good concept...helping out people who need it, and using it against them later on down the line.
My comment is not so much towards financing which I am sure I probably paid way to much for my car. My complaint is that my car is still under warrenty. I drove off the lot maybe about a month later my check engine light came on...Okay GAS prices first of all are outragious, so needless to say I needed to save up some money because it is a $40 diagnostic fee to see what is wrong with the vehicle...Well it's now 4 months not only has my check engine light come on, but I have lost my a/c compressor (had a leak), needed a gas cap, spark plugs, spark wires, camshaft position sensor, and a major tune up. Drive Time says the only thing that they were willing to cover is the a/c compressor (thank god cause that is 1200$ alone) so needless to say I called argueed and finally they were will to throw in the camshaft position sensor(which makes my car start, major problem) and the gas cap considering it shouldn't of corrodid within 4 months. Anyway I have been getting the run around from this company. So then I call and ask what the 53 point inspection includes and they can't tell me that either all they can tell me is the recon center does it and then on there website it tells me to call this 1-800# that just gets me no where...Well its a good thing I saved some money cause now I am forking out 75$ instead of 40$ I really can only say is DRIVE TIME IS A COMPANY THAT MAKES A LIVING OFF OF SCREWING PEOPLE OUT OF MONEY AND A CAR! I could of went to toyota or any other dealer ship with my money and got a decent car under warrenty without the frustration...I will never purchase a car again through DRIVE TIME and will let everyone know HOW DRIVE TIME SCREWED ME OVER!
terrible prices!
I needed to find a reliable vehicle, and with not having very good credit, was kind of limited on where I could go. I was pre-approved by drivetime, and was contacted by them, and made an appointment with a manager on a saturday at 10 am. I get there, and this appointment with the manager is a handshake, and sit me down with a salesman.
Comes to find out I was not really pre-approved. I had to do another application. I came prepared with all the documents they requested, and after a half hour of waiting, they told me I was approved for 4 of the cars on the lot. 2 04 Chevy Malibu's, a 04 Pontiac Grand Am, and a 05 Ford Taurus.
I wanted to take a good test drive of all the vehicles. I am a decent heavy diesel mechanic, and wanted to get a feel for any problems with the cars. Drove the taurus, brake master cylinder was shot. Car would barely stop, petal goes all the way to the floor. Even after this, the salesman kept pushing me to buy this one, which was the most expensive I was qualified for.
Was going to test drive the Grand Am, but AC did not work. Didn't bother. Next was to the malibu's. Both were identical years, models, color. The one I test drove was a little more expensive, but in worse shape. 85k miles on a 4 year old car, not much power, exhaust LOUD, burn holes all over the car, smelled bad, you name it. I test drove that one, wanted to test the identical one, but when I got back, the identical one was 'sold'. (drove by a week later, and BOTH cars were still there).
Then came to the negations. Or lack there of I should say. They showed me some off brand car history report, and everything came back fine. Then showed me the preliminary price offer, which he wanted me to sign no questions asked. I think not. 14k for that car was high. I said I did not think it was fair that this car in worse condition than the other is higher priced, and wanted to negotiate the price, to which I was told that the prices are firm, and the prices are set on how much they are picked up at auction. AH-HA. I asked him 'Oh, you get your cars from Adesa Auctions? They are one of my customers.' and he said yes.
Adesa Auto Auctions sells a lot of used rental cars, corporate fleet cars, and trades from other car dealerships. The red light in my head went off. 4 year old car, 85, 000 miles on it... used rental car or used fleet car! Considering they had identical color, model, year, more than likely, used rental car. Now, they're history report said nothing of the sort like that, but all the pieces fit.
At this point I wanted to leave. I told him that I want to do a separate car-fax report, get quotes on insurance, and double check my financial situation, and would call him back later in the day. He logged me onto a computer in the office and told me to do it there, and he would be back in a few minutes, also told me (more like ordered) to give him my debit card to put a 300 hold on the car, which I said no, not until I find out what I need to find out. He played the 'another customer is wanting that car' game, but I was firm. He closed the door to the office, and I was getting annoyed, so I was going to get up and leave, but the door was LOCKED!
I banged loudly on the door, and yelled at the salesman 'Open this [protected]@$#ing door in 5 seconds or I am going to break the glass and open it myself. He didn't move until I went for his metal desk name plate. He opened the door, and I walked to the door, trying to catch up to me. Nearly had to push him aside.
Went with another company, which happens to be on rip-off also, but had a much better experience. I still get called by drivetime all the time at work on my cell, telling me to drop by, even though I bought a 99 Ford F250 Superduty 4x4 with an International DT444E (ford 7.3L powerstroke), 3000 LESS than that little chevy mailbu, and in much much better condition.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
this is pertaining to your comment on the gentleman that was locked in the office. first it seems u have little or no commensense (which is spelled wrong) or maybe your an employee. so unless u have bought a car from drive time, and are completely happy with your purchase, u shouldn't comment on what u think happened with that gentleman's experience was with d.t. it boils down to "u weren't there !
The Vehicles prices on the lot are set and can not be altered... The corporate office sets them and the dealership has no control over the prices of the vehicles. I am sure that you feeling pushed to buy the most expensive car on the lot was all in your head because in all actuality it doesn't make a difference to the sales associate how much the price is! The sales associates and managers don't get paid more if they sell a higher priced vehicle like most car dealerships... so it really doesnt benefit them in any way to sell you the expensive one. So I'm sure it was a misunderstanding. Also, I don't think it was planned to lock you in an office because you would have to come out eventually so what would it help for them to lock you in. As for the car history report, The dealership uses Experian and that is a well known company. Look it up! DriveTime is a company helping people with bad or no credit get good cars. There is much better than regular car companies that have second chance finance that requires you to have 5000 down and a GPS in you car that shuts your car down if your late. The prices and interest might be a little high... but what do you expect... all of the customers are high risk.
You did the right thing. Run, dont walk, away from these people. I have never been to one but I have read horror story after horror story about them.

I had the same problem. They harrass every reference you have. I had spoken with one guy & told him how I was having financial issues and would be paying abt a week or 2 late. He damn near cursed me out. He basically told me that I am worthless and they were going to come repo the car. I said fine, I live in IL now (from AZ) and the car will be on fire when you get here. I asked for him to xfr me to his supervisor but he hung up on me. I am almost done with my payment, $750 left. Never again will I ever, ever go to them. Luckily, I did get a good car from them but it sure wasnt worth it. We all are gettin screwed and its our pocket books that are feelin it!
Good luck with that. My husband and I purchased a car there 4 years ago and for the first couple of years our payments were on time and sometimes early. Then, we had some financial hard times and after fighting with them, they extended our agreement for a couple of months. See that they didn't give us anything really, they just added more time to the loan agreement. Then, about 5 months ago, our car was due to be paid off, but my husband had been out of work for close to a year and I had been making the majority of the income and I couldn't keep up with the 410 dollar a month payments for a 2001 model car...I bought it in 2005...who got screwed here? Anyway, I attempted to make some arrangements so I could get it paid off...I literally have 3 payments left, but they refuse to work with me. I have these people contacting my references on a daily basis harassing them, I have some [censored]bag harassing my husband on the phone, threatening that he will go to jail if he doesn't turn over the car...all that for 1200 dollars that they won't work with me so I can pay to them. The collection agent was very rude and very personal with my husband...insulting him saying that he makes habits out of not repaying his debts...this guy discusses our financial situation with other people, trying to squeeze us for the money by embarrassing us. Needless to say, no matter what this guy does or says, I can't pull the money out of my butt to give to him and we tried to arrange a payment plan to get it taken care of and he REFUSED payment. Well, unfortunately, for this guy, I know my rights and if he calls me or my husband again, he's going to know it. Drivetime is the WORST place for someone with bad credit to go because they will use your credit history against you if you fall behind on the payment...best thing to do, save up and buy a car for cash. It may not be the sweetest ride, but it will be yours and you won't have some [censored] calling you and bugging you all the time.
My brother gave me as a reference and every time he's late on a payment I get these harrassing phone calls. I never entered into any agreement with drivetime!
