I just attempted to Sync the bookmarks on my Mac (using Sonoma 14.5) and my iPhone (using iOS 17.5.1). The result is that many of the bookmarks from both devices are missing, and those that remain are scrambled. I.e., instead of being in a hierarchy of folders the ones that survived are just listed in the main Bookmarks folder. To say that this is a major inconvenience is an understatement.
Is there any way to remedy this problem? I have full backups of my Mac on Time Machine, if bookmarks are physically stored on devices. Or does DDG maintain any backups? If I had know this could occur I would have exported the bookmarks before doing the Sync. But there was no indication that the process was prone to errors.
Desired outcome: I would really like to get some help with this issue, as my bookmarks are an important resource for me.

Thank you, this is good advice. But I don’t know where the bookmarks are stored on the Mac, and was hoping that DDG could help me with that.
You've been left hanging, which is unacceptable. Since support hasn't responded, try restoring your bookmarks from your Mac's Time Machine backup. Moving forward, always export your bookmarks before syncing to prevent issues like this. If you still don’t get a response from DuckDuckGo, consider switching to a more reliable service that values your time and data. Don’t settle for poor support.
