Duke Energy possible unethical behavior, or at least an outstanding mistake

4/18/2018
[protected]

My family has lived at this same residence for about 12 years, and every single month of every single one of those years the electric bill has been painfully high, and we have always been at a loss as to why. This month, though, has been the worst I have ever seen. $431.59? I don't understand. We have not used electric heat for more than a month, and I line-dry my laundry and only cold water is used in the wash. All computers and devices are shut down when not in use. Appliances are unplugged when not being used. I cannot see any way that I have used $431 in electricity. There must be something wrong. Since the installation of the new smart meter, it seems my bill has doubled from an already unreasonable rate. I am considering contacting the Better Business Bureau, because there is nothing in this household that is consuming energy worth $100 a week.

Duke Energy no regard for private property

Duke felt free to drive across private property to get to their pole, leaving large ruts. After filing a claim with worthless Sedgwick, I received no calls back. After a week I called them and was informed that claim had been closed, despite nobody ever speaking with me. Obviously they could care less! I have photos to show damage done to yard and fence.

Duke Energy smart meter & customer service

smart meter was put in sept 2017. Oct my KWH doubled for 2 mths then 4 times for 1 mth and doubled for another 2 mths. I called customer service 4 times. 4/2018 - 1st guy said maybe I bought a tanning bed. 2nd lady said to check my lg appliances. I paid someone and they said they are all good. 3rd phone call she said it was a cold winter. OK, it was cold last year too. I let her know my neighbor had the same issue and the meter transmitted incorrectly. she had someone check my meter. 4/9/18 Meter guy was nice, helpful and thorough. meter works. 4th phone call the girl spent 15 minutes telling me we had 3 weeks of cold weather - and that's why my bill went up for 5 months! she finally transferred me to meter helpline - got a recording and left a message. I've printed from the website my bills for the past year and my usage for the past 5mths. CS is not helpful at all. I was told the meter works so there is no next step. it's Duke's responsibility if the transmitting is faulty. I'm obviously not the only person having issues - please don't read off a script and talk to me like an idiot. there's a problem and I would like a resolution. preferably the easy way.

Duke Energy billing and payments

On 3/28/18, I paid my total electric bill of $608.36. My balance was zero. On 4/9/18, I received an email stating that a payment was made in the amount of $410.71 which resulted in a credit to my account. I never made this payment! I called Duke energy on 4/9 and they told me to check with my bank and wait to see how it played out. On 4/11/18, I called again to tell Duke that I received another email stating that I had a credit of $263.38. I think someone may have made a payment and entered the wrong account information. The lady I spoke with put in a request for a "payment research" that would take about 5-7 days for Duke to respond back to me. My current bill at this time was $147.33 due on 5/7/18. On 4/12/18, I again called Duke to report that I received another email saying "We are sorry to inform you that your Duke Energy payment scheduled for 4/6/18 was returned. A returned check fee will be billed to your account. the account will be removed from Paperless Billing after the second returned payment to Duke Energy" Well, I never got a returned check to my account. Nobody else in my family has made a payment to Duke and now my current balance on my account is $152.33, due by 5/7/18. No one can explain this amount of the current bill when I can see that it says $147.44. I feel that my account is in error and nobody is able to tell me what my actual bill amount is. It seems that nothing is being done to correct my account and I feel that I am paying more money to Duke and my electric may still be disconnected! I could have kept quiet about the credit on my account, but I didn't and now I'm being made to feel that I am in the wrong! Something must be done about the billing practices at Duke Energy and customer service representatives needs more training to learn to be more customer friendly! The two people that I spoke with today was not friendly or understanding that there is something wrong with my bill account. My account is now screwed up and I don't know what amount I should pay by 5/7/18. I am not satisfied with Duke Energy service!

Thank you

Duke Energy my service

For 9 months on my equal payment plan I had a credit on my account each month and it stated I used less. I paid my bill on 1/26/18 then tried to transfer my service on 2/5 because I was moving. I had to pay another$250 deposit that day, service still wasn't transferred then on 2/10 they disconnected my service telling me I had a past due bill of $200. I paid it only to receive a bill for $700+ dollars. Now I'm being told I used more than my equal payment plan and had an outstanding balance. But each month I was ahead. Totally ripping customers off and have a monopoly so your forced to pay.

Duke Energy duke energy driver with license plate #hc1418

For the past several week's, Duke Energy truck driver with the license plate HC1418, has been cutting people off trying to merge at the last minute onto I85N from US 321S. Does he not realize he is a travelling billboard for Duke? He has come very close to causing chain reaction accidents. If he would allow a few more minutes travelling time, he could probably save himself a possible lawsuit and maybe even his job. People need to be patient and wait in the right lane to merge and by doing so, traffic would move quicker and more efficiently. Please stress to your drivers to be considerate on the road.

Thank youj for your cooperation in this matter.

Duke Energy bill

Last two months I was charged double on my power. I don't know what is going on, but what I think that this company stealing money from people. My highest bill was $350 last year during winter time and this year is $750. I told them there is something not right and they said their meter is reading right so that's not their problem. This is so ridiculous. I wish someone could stop them.

Duke Energy truck driver

On Thursday, March 8, 2018, a Duke Power truck driver pulled out right in front of me on Hwy 601 at 5:15 pm in Yadkinville, NC. When I blew my horn at him, he just threw his hands up. What a [censor]! Just because his company can charge us out the wazoo and we can't do anything about it, I guess he thinks he has free reign of the road as well. They probably never look at this but watch out for them on the roads! I wish I had thought to get his truck or license #.

I been told they have adjusted my bill but it alot of running back and forth cause no one can explain how this happen. And I was told to pay and they will credit me! Bull hicky... I've only been with Duke Energy since Jan. 23, 2018 and have had nothing but issues with my bill.

Duke Energy asplundh tree contracting company by duke power.

On 2-12-18 Asplundh Tree company came to 111 Zion Church road and trimmed the tree back from Duke powers line. When I came by the morning of 2-13-18 there were tree limbs in the ditch and half way to the large tree where our pet dog was chained to the tree. No one called or left a message to move our dog. When my daughter came home that after noon many of the tree limbs where gone but our dog was lying on some limbs dead. I tried calling Duke power and customer service said that had no information about anyone being in the area or if it was contracted out. I was told I needed to file a claim and was told I had to call between 8:00 and 5:00, no one was at the claims department it was about 5:10 in the evening. I took a chance and called, a young lady named Renita gave me a claims number and said within 5 days the claims examiner would call make sure I get her name and number. The agent would call with in 5 days about complaint. It has been over 2 weeks and no call from claims person. I had to speak with a supervisor. to try and get me back to area and still no one has contacted me except the foreman from Asplundt and he said since he talked with his workers the dog was alive when they left. There was no way they could have picked up the limbs without having contact with the Dog in some shape or form. The dog had full access to that area all the way to the ditch. The dog was fine before the trees were cut down and dead when they finished. listening to the foreman his story didn't match up from conversation I had on phone and when I met him at location. He said it was nothing he could do, notices were put on door at houses, There was not any. I would like compensation for death of my dog...

Duke Energy the entire company

This entire company is a scam and an illegal monopoly. Customers are forced to use their terrible and highly overpriced services — all of which are managed in the worst utility website I have ever seen.

I am furious that our state does nothing to protect consumers from a corrupt and terribly managed company like this one. I am desperate to move out of the state just so I never have to deal with them again.

Electricity is a human need at this point and you shouldn't have to sacrifice food and shelter to afford it.

Duke Energy bad customer service

2/24/2018 and 2/25/2018 my power went out. it seem to do it a lot.
I contacted someone one Sunday about 4 in afternoon, I was told someone will be out by 700pm. no one came or called, I had to call back about 830 that night, they told me they pinged the house, and everything was ok.. its not.. I have no heat no electric in portions of the house. Now after a couple of calls Im still upset. The last operator told me it was better it happen this way, cause it could have been worse... no it should have never happen at all. all your operators need to talk to people with compassion. I want my house repaired or
please explain what happen to my house in detail
The operators suggestion is to get a electrician, no I need for you to fix this situation.

Bonnie and Clyde used guns to rob people, Duke Energy uses smart meters to rob.
Power bill can be verified easily enough. Before smart meter Dec 27th 2017 and earlier bill rarely exceeded $125.00 monthly during winter. After smart meter bill went up to $382.00 first month after smart meter 2nd month $387.00. I'm 85 years old on fixed income and alone in house. Nothing changed but smart meter.

Duke Energy high bill and poor representative service

My power bill has more than doubled for the Dec-Jan bill and has doubled for the current bill. I realize we have had colder weather but I do not believe that is the only problem! I recently had the smart meter put in at my house. I have lived in my house for 15 years and over the past 15 yrs we have had cold weather like we have had this winter and my power bill has never increased that much! I requested for my meter to be checked and the representative I was speaking with told me there would be a $100.00 charge for that to happen and that it was all because of the cold weather and the smart meter because it was more accurate. I asked for a phone number to call the complaint dept and she gave the same number twice which was not the correct number and I know she did that on purpose. I was not rude to her, this is not her fault, I was concerned and expressed my concern because I don't know how we can pay these high power bills! I am very upset that duke energy is not willing to help their costumers! My bill is very high and yet you want to charge me even more money to come out and check my meter! Something needs to be done! As consumers our hands are tied because you will shut our power off and not think twice about it!... all because we cant pay our bill due to the excessive increase! We don't have any other options for power so I feel it is easy to be taken advantage of! There have been a lot of friends and neighbors whose bill is higher but not too many as high as mine and yet I can not any help from duke energy. So lets recap, we now have new meters that benefit YOU, Duke energy, and NOT your costumers, and YOU, Duke energy is not willing to come out and check my meter to see if there could be something wrong with it! So, since I am on a tight budget and a 520.00 bill and a 440.00 bill is out of my reach financially what will my family have to go without to try and keep my power on, food?... very possible!
Thank you Duke Energy!

Duke Energy deposit or not

I was told my servies wouldn't be completed until I brought in my deposit... But I open my bill and was being charged from my request and not my initial start date which is impossible cause I have a letter stating my request will not be completed until I do so! I now have a bill from my request date which is wrong... My bill should be adjusted from my initial start and not request date!

On dec 26. 2017 I went online to submit a request form to start services and was e-mailed a letter stating I had to bring in a $200 deposit for my requested services to start. So on jan 23. 2018 I proceeded to take duke energy my deposit to start services in my name. I receive a bill early february... Thinking it was ok I came in on the billing cycle so the bill shouldn't be that high it's been in my name for only like 2 weeks or so but nnnnnnnooooo duke energy has been charging me without lights being in my name! So I called cause this is a clear mistake. The 1st rep told me it's was an error and the bill will go to who it was prior to me and it should be fixed and to call back in 2 days to make sure they fixed the error. To no avail they didn't... Stating that they waived the deposit and turn the lights on without my knowledge so I have to pay a bill that clearly says service will not be completed until you bring in $200 not void out the letter they sent stating otherwise... Not to mention I was told by a rep I misinterpreted the letter! I'm like how do I not understand services wouldn't be connected in my name until I brought them a deposit. I've been on the phone with several different reps and 2 supervisors and they said void the letter cause we do what we want basically! How do I dispute this bill and let someone see the letters I have from duke energy saying my request won't be completed until I bring in the deposit? Hhhhhhhhhheeeeeellllllppppppp

Update by ObiCo
Feb 15, 2018 12:52 pm EST

I am trying to understand how and why duke energy is telling me to void out my letter stating services will be connected in my name once I bring in a $200 deposit. I went online dec. 27, 2017 to see when and how much I needed start services in my name and was e-mailed a letter stating service will not be completed until deposit is rendered. So on jan. 22 I brought in the deposit so service could start in my name. Now here comes a bill stating I owe since dec 29. 2017 and they started services without my knowledge. My initial start date in my name with deposit is jan 23, 2018 and not my request date, because the e-mail clearly says service will not start until you bring in $200... So why am I being charged for services that wasn't in my name until my initial start date? Please adjust my bill or i'll be taking legal action.

Duke Energy claim — number — [protected]

Claim number [protected] (with sedgwick for customer vinod soni) — please being a universe level of hospitality, quality & epa person — latest book written by me — "universe of hospitality" (see at goggle or linkedin)-www.soniqualityeye.com--vinodsoni9825@gmail.com--my experience and infinite patience tells duke energy to reconsider working with sedgwick as they (sedgwick insurance company) is sowing a solid seed to damage the image of a best company (on this planet earth) duke energy (for a very small benefit on their own side & by having & hiring totally un professional people — my goodness terrible treatment, poor use of words and a sort of dictatorship) — these words and messages are coming to you from a world level of quality, hospitality & epa personality (what they would do to a regular person — my goodness)
Due to some duke energy contractor's fault my house suffered the abuse of rain, water and different climatic effects & environment for four months resulting in damaging the life of electrical circuits of all machines (as per electric experts — even if those run at this point of time) and one foot rain water destroyed many things (difficult to count or write down)
Please the sedgwick is making fun of me as well as of duke energy by playing with it's customers — just for not paying and to show that even after all above happening nothing gone wrong with our things & machines, they sent a unidentified person (no id shown by her, even on asking — can we make unidentified persons enter our house — my goodness, what kind of company duke energy is dealing with and making a hell for customers — if we would have said no to that lady — it was on us, we did not allow her, how do we can get a claim — terrible) — then she reported nothing is wrong, machines do run (but who would talk about the abuse their circuits already suffered) — and thousands of dollar worth of stuff destroyed.
Now, just see my humble part — my total claim for all that four months abuse & and what the hell I suffered is $ 2175 (my goodness, even I am surprised, why sedgwick is doing all this game and damaging of duke energy's image.
Please, excuse me and my universe level of personality in favor of america (for writing above strong words) and immediately (yes real quick as I have already wasted a lot of my golden time) get me the minimum amount I requested ($ 2175).

Duke Energy payment blocks

I had my billfold stolen 6+ years ago and my bank for safety measures closed my card. That same day a payment had came out for duke energy. I'm am now blocked my entire lifetime from ever making a debit payment. This is ridiculous since this is the only power company near my town. I hate the way I have been talked to by customer representatives and it's even more annoying that I have to go to 4 payment locations just to have them tell me their kiosk are down and that they can't take a cash payment. Some regulations or rules need to be updated regarding this policy.

Duke Energy customer service representative

Today I called because I was trying to pay online, after resetting my password I was able to log into my account, I noticed the due amount was $40 different from the email I received so I called customer service to make sure, spoke to james id#4065 explained about the email balance difference, he didn't even listen to me all he said you got a late fee so that's the difference, told him is not $5 is like $40 but anyhow I would like to know about the billing plan and see if my account qualifies for it, he said I can do 11 months at $159 but this amount won't be included, I said okay so it won't help since i'm not planning to stay here longer, i'll be moving out when my lease is up and he dare to tell me just because you're moving out you won't get a free bill, I said excuse me? What did you say to me? And he change, saying you didn't listen well, let me tell you, that's not customer service, i'm not asking for anything free, I work hard for my money and to pay my bills, I wanted to curse him out but I didn't, I terminated my call and called back to speak to a supervisor, I just spoke to dominic and explained what happened, me being a debt collector myself have never ever talk to a customer that way and debt collectors have a bad reputation, I worked for td bank and I provide solutions to my customers not humiliations, I really hope my call can be listen and this person be train much better, I don't wish nobody to loose their job either just to learn how to talk to customers even if they don't sympathize to their situation.
My own motto if your not happy doing what your doing don't do it at all, I enjoyed my job as a debt collector myself I had collected over a million dollars just last month been courteous, you attract flys with honey not with vinegar

Duke Energy kwh usage from jan 2 - feb 1, 2018

Dear duke power:
This serves as a formal complaint for the total kwh used from jan 2 through feb 1, 2018. Charge as seen on enclosed bill (new charges) $506.72.

Address:
8816 belhaven court, lewisville, nc 27023 acct [protected]

I am living in the home alone. My husband is working in florida. No one is here but me, and I am here approx. 8 hours within a day/night - to sleep.

Last month when I complained to a rep on the phone about the high charges, she said the following:
1. Keep thermostat at 68
1a. I told her that 68 was too hot (to run heat) for me, would 66 be ok. She stated yes. That's fine.
2. Do not turn off system and turn back on to heat home. I said ok, I don't and won't. Because that would cause the systems to work harder and i'd get charged more.
3. Check for any leaks, etc. I did, even though all windows and doors are new pella, and there are no leaks anywhere.

I am losing it! I asked if someone would please come out and check this meter. I was told that duke doesn't do that. Because all duke meters are perfect! And if they did - I would be charged! Really?

Well, for one person - one - who sleeps here mostly - 8 hours per 24 hour period, and keeps thermo at 66 degrees or 67 at highest for heat, how can my new charges be that high, and how does one person at that rate of time use 5, 500 kwhs?

Last year, at this same billing period, there were 3 to 4 people living here, and we were charged somewhere in the neighborhood of $400.

Ok - so this is a formal complaint. Check your meter. Do not charge me! This is bogus! There is no way I can use that many kwhs in 30 days alone in the time that I am here, at the temp it's on!

This is ridiculous. Your meter is not working correctly. Yes, even duke can be wrong - your meter that is.

My desired resolution would be to refund me for 30 day period above-mentioned. Calculate 8 hours per day at 66-67 degrees of heat.

My second desired resolution is to either repair your meter or replace it at no cost to me. This is your meter. It's not perfect!

I would appreciate a prompt resolution. I cannot afford this kind of bill as one person living alone - and only here 8 hours with the heat on (the thermo) at 66 most of the time. Sometimes I also turn it down to 65.

I am a florida girl. I cannot sleep in the heat.

I think your meter is defective and i'd like to know when you are coming out here so I can be here. I'm going to find out from my neighbors who have similar homes, what their bills are for that time period. Same size house, how many people in it, etc.

Thank you. Cherrie (cherry is the right spelling) fulcher and nelson fulcher [protected]
