I had a bill in collections from GC Services Limited Partnership. I paid this bill November 11,2006. It is now March 13, 2007 and my payment was never sent to the original biller, they claim they never received my money. I have a confirmation number and a bank statement showing the payment made, and they still insist payment was not made, and would not make any effort to correct the problem. Due to GC Services Limited Partnership mistake my credit report has a dent in it that they refuse to fix. They fought with me about the payment made, screamed and cursed at me and kept hanging up the phone. They would not let me speak to a supervisor or another employee. Instead GC Services Limited Partnership would put me on speaker phone and talk slanderously. My money has been stolen and is still floating around in there pocket. There is no correcting this because they will not answer the phone or let someone else know the situation so it can be correct. GC Services Limited Partnership are thieves!

I'm more pissed off with Sallie Mae who placed my student loans on default status while I was deployed I Iraq. I never received any notice that my loans were going to be placed in default. In fact, before I deployed, I made sure that my loans were on deferment status and informed them that I would be deployed for a year. Well, after returning I found out my loans had defaulted. I sent them my proof and they told me that since it had already been handed over to GC Services, there was nothing they could do for me. So basically, if I pay GC Services I'm accepting that my loans defaulted and the additional 18-22% they tacked on... that's why I'm getting a lawyer. I tried talking to a GC Service manger and he hung up on me because he said he's heard it all before. I believe his name was Silverman. Anyways, he totally disrespected me and that's why I've decided not to answer their calls or deal with them directly. From here on out, they will be talking to my lawyer.

These people continue to call despite 1.) knowing that the person they seek has never lived here, 2.) the debtor shares my last name but is not my relative, 3.) being told they have no conduit to whomever they are looking for from this address. Each time they call they leave a message, I'm supposed to call them back long distance at my expense? Not likely: I'm at work, idiot! The next time they call, they will get two things: a recitation of the Do Not Call law specifying that, since we have never done business before, and because they want to do business with whoever answers my phone, they are in blatant violation of that law, subjecting them to a $500 fine for each violation afterwards; and , secondly, a recitation of section 805(b) of the FDCPA specifying no contact with 3rd parties and 806(5) specifying placement of phone calls meant to harass or annoy. Since it's not my debt, why bother me? If that doesn't stop them, I'll wait until one comes in when I'm here, then play them for as long as I can to waste their time so their efforts will not only be meaningless, but wasteful and costly to them. What's wrong with these people? LEAVE ME ALONE! I AM NOT WHO YOU WANT!

There have been posts by numerous people who have been harassed by GC Services and a few employees who defend their behavior. This is from another angle. I am an employer. I work for a company that has several locations. GC Services began calling our office several months ago to locate a person who does not work at our location. When our receptionist informed the caller of this, the person became very rude and accusatory to the point that she finally hung up on the caller. The harassing calls continued in spite of the fact that they were repeatedly told that the person could not be reached at our location. They have told us that they were a collection agency and were trying to collect a federal debt from our employee. Several times, the receptionist passed the calls along to me and I confirmed that the person they were trying to reach was not at our office. We've asked them repeatedly to stop calling and yet the obnoxious, time wasting calls continue. These people are telephone barbarians.

I totally agree with the people GC Services are very RUDE! I owe a bill with Sprint. I made a check that I accidentally bounced and now owe Sprint 140.00. They were yelling at me that I only had a couple of hours to pay the bill and if not that they were going to report me as doing a fraud. I tried to arrange a payment with them and they did not want to work with me. I immediately called Sprint to advise them of the situation and arranged a payment with Sprint. I hope that if GC Services reports me as fraud the payment will be cleared with Sprint and I can SEW there ###! Don't work with collection agency's try to work it out to the original company that you owe. I will be reporting the to the BBB because GC Services is UNETHICAL and UNPROFESSIONAL!

Pay your bills! How about that? No late bills, no problem. As for mistakes... their information is online, send a letter by certified mail indicating that you aren't the debtor, the address is wrong, they keep calling a wrong number, whatever. You people are classic, you use other people's money to get what you want then get mad when they want you to pay that money back. Hmm, seems like thievery to me...

but calling a neighbor is totally legal. They do it to piss off the debtor in order to make them return the phone calls. Cease and Desist!

Our son has been missing in Chicago for a year, we are dealing with our grief at not knowing what has happened to him. His college loan is in default because he is not here to pay. So we start hearing from GC Services Limited. Jesse disappeared while on a college sponsored trip and they sic these blood sucking leeches on us. I am not sure if I dislike those who put them on us or the leeches more.

I have had dealings with collection agencies in the past when I did have debts and I will tell you this: Deal with your creditors directly and don't give a cent or a moment of your time to the jerks they hire to harass you (that is if you actually owe anything).

These scumballs have been calling me 5-10 times a day for the last two weeks (well, at first i was twice a day, but the frequency keeps increasing) asking for someone who doesn't live here and has never lived here. I was polite at first, asking them to stop calling, that this was not a business, and that no one by that name was here or had ever been here (we've had our number over 10 years). Despite telling them it's not a business, their follow-up question was always, "Does someone named 'john doe' work there?"

They will not stop calling. I finally just started cursing at them when I find out its them calling again and they get offended and hang-up. I have been able to practice my best angol-saxon and Spanish curse-words though. I'm thinking about looking up some good German vulgarities next.

Once they have your phone number they are like lampreys, and will never let go. They know they're never going to get the person at this number, and yet they keep calling.

As for legal actions, the company is in Canada, so I doubt there is anything I can do. I can't file a police report for harassment (I tried).

If anyone pulls a 'Comcast' and goes in and busts up their office equipment with a hammer, I promise to donate to help cover the fine. :)

First and foremost, the company seems to have no courtesy at all. I called and tried to resolve an issue and get information on how I could go about it, these so called associates or agents start getting real condescending and pompous over the phone. I simply want to resolve a problem and they seem to have no interest in correcting the problem but rather aggravating the decent people who are moving forward... All in all they are by far the worst company I've EVER dealt with. What can we do to correct this?

Citizens for Community Action

It is truly ashame that the rights of people are pushed aside when it comes to the collection of money. Unfortunately, not to many people know their rights.

To help everyone, you can look at this document: http://www.citizensforcommunityaction.org/ConsumerInfo/DebtCollectPractices/fdc.pdf

It lists many of the things that CANNOT be done with collection procedures.

Recently, I received a call from [protected]. In fact, there were three calls from that number within 2 minutes.

I called the number back, after pulling over to the side of the road (I was on my cell phone), the person quickly mentioned some company name and then said this call was being recorded for taining purposes.

I then said I do not want this call recorded. Contrary to popular belief, you are not required to comply with any company that wants a conversation recorded, nor for any alleged purpose they claim. It is your right under Federal Laws and most State Laws - prosecution would be for Eavesdropping and potentially for violation of wiretap laws. The reason they must tell you the conversation is being record is precisely a Federal Law!

This lady then said, "What do you have to hide?"

Nothing! I told her. I simply do not want the conversation recorded and it is my right not to have it recorded. Apparently, these people do not know the law.

Personally, we look forward to another call for the purpose of ducumentation. Yes, ladies and gentlemen, document everything: Day of the call, time, length of the call, what the conversation pertained to and any outcomes. Build the profile for this company and their illegal tactics.

What to do with this data: Every State has an Attorney General (AG). You'll want to contact the AG of your State as well as the AG of the "agent" of this company. You can tell the State because of the area code - Google "area code"

Nearly every AG has a downloadable form to file complaints. File them and include your documentation!

You don't have to stop there. You can file complaints with the Better Business Bureau (although this might get you nowhere). You can also file complaints with your local muncipality - consumer fraud.

Finally, I did talk to an individual who told me I should not contact the creditor. This sent up some flags right away. The number of dollars owed was nothing near what was being claimed and it was all because of a company named Proclosers and TV Travels. The creditor was American Express.

Forget about those advertising stories you hear about the unsaid implication of helping its members. Their intrepretation is to set up a dispute and that's it. After more than a year of calling every month to file a dispute, I finally told American Express that if there is nothing you can do to stop this, I'm simply not going to pay the bill for six months (the length of time most businesses would stop automatic billing) and then continue afterwards. Would you like to be subjected to a process, for the rest of your life, that mandated you call every month to dispute an automatic charge?

By the way, if you're thinking that I should have called Proclosers and TV Travels, I did. Told them to stop the automatic charges. All to no avail.

Even considering the political climate these days, I would recommend that you contact every representative you have and tell them about your experience. As one of their voting constitutents, who is obviously upset, they tend to listen a little better and might want to introduce better consumer protection legislation. At the Federal level, contact your Senator and Congressional Representative. Do the same at the State level. We need to change the law because as it now stands, it is outmoded and simply does not address the unethical tactics used in collection, whether money is truly owed or not!

Good luck and keep on fighting to preserve what little rights we have left!

Admittedly, I was frustrated when I called about an outstanding bill, but I was immediately treated with zero respect. The call agent demanded that I give them my personal information before answering simple questions. They made paying difficult by telling me that mailing a check would take forever for them to process it, etc. What a seedy bunch of jerks. When I asked if I could speak to someone else because I just didn't like the person's attitude, they laughed and said that I would have to always have to deal with them. What a power trip that person was on! Like I was somehow below them because I forgot about a ticket and it went to collections. Worse than the seediest of car salesmen-- this company has so many complaints online it's pathetic.

This company is crazy! They call me once a week and hang up. Just today a lady asked for some woman's name that I don't even know. I called GC services months ago and had them search for my number and remove it. They claimed that I wasn't in their database and that it probably was in regards to my husband's debt. The only debt we have is a mortgage and we don't even use credit cards. This company is shady and s*cks!

I just had a call from these parasites. The caller id comes up and says Ohio, State of like it is a call from state government. When I ask them about it, they say they have no idea why it comes up that way. I have reported them to the State of OH for using this .
I will report them to my state also.
When I asked them for the pertinent information on the account , they wouldn't tell me.
I will fight with them and win. So I hope they are reading this.

I'll be totally honest in regard to GC Services. Regardless of the reason the money is owed or we fell behind, I never denied that my husband & I do owe this money. We have tried to work something out with GC Services, specifically a debt collector by the name of Kim Kirkland. We were not not able to come to an agreement as I refuse to give our bank account information to collectors and GCS would not accept a payment plan in any other manner. We decided we were better off to save up and pay the debt off in it's entirety with the original creditor and not the collection agency. During this period we received as many as fourteen calls a day from GCS. Kim Kirkland then began calling my cell phone, depsite me asking her not to call it as it is prepaid. All calls to our home and cell phone numbers were documented, saved in our caller ID and we have saved all voicemails and documented all phone conversations. Ms. Kirkland began calling my neighbors, more than once, asking them to give us messages despite the fact that we were answering some of her phone calls, we never denied written contact from GCS and they had already confirmed our residence. Both the repeated calls and calling others despite verifying our contact information is illegal. After suffering through weeks of repeated calls we wrote to GCS and sent them a "do not contact by phone" letter and the contact immediately ceased. We are prepared to pay our bill off in just two weeks, and you can bet we'll be paying it directly to the original creditor and NOT to GCS. GCS won't see a penny from us on principle and I hope won't be able to collect any commission. I am armed & ready to report GCS to the FTC if they reestablish phone contact.

I also recieved a bill from GC Services about an old Nextel cellular account that had gone to collections. I chose to do the right thing and pay off my creditors with my tax refund. I paid them in April 2007 and I also have a confirmation number and proof that the check was cleared and now it's February 2008 and they claim they haven't recieved a dime. I used the address that was on the bill they sent me and even the calls and letters have stopped. So if they haven't recieved the money as they are claiming, why did they stop calling? I'll tell you why, because they DID recieve the money and are big thieving FRAUDS.

The complaints leveled against GC services are not baseless, I recently settled a case with GC services regarding their illegal collection methods. If you think you are being harassed by them, I suggest you keep a detailed record of the calls (time, caller, outline etc), read up on Fair Debt Collection Practice Act and contact a consumer advocate lawyer (www.naca.net). Even if you settle they would still have to pay for your attorney fees which is not cheap.

I have never heard so call professionals speak to people like I heard today. My daughter and I were on a three way call with GS Services, and I am amazed! This so call woman Ms. Williams actually called by daughter a stupid b----. Can you imagine. I have contacted the BBB and my attorney since for some unknown reason we recorded the conversation. Also in the phone from GS Services was a Ms. Harper, I want them bad. I don't talk to my daughter that way and I be damed if they will.
I have read all the complaints listed above and I believe that they are all true. Get ready GS Service the war is on. There are so many complaints stating how rude and unprofessional your agency is.

I am in a terrible situation. I paid a car note for Toyota Financial that was two days past due through GC Services. I thought nothing of it because I had paid through them before and had no problem. I paid this note on January 31, 2008. It is now April and Toyota Financial is still showing that I have not paid. I even had my bank fax a copy of the check that GC Services cashed automatically through my account. Since then both parties have done nothing but harrass me. They call my house at least three times a day. I work third shift and I am pregnant. They call as soon as I get home leaving me too mad to sleep. I am seriously considering suing both of them if this isn't resolved soon.

The chairman of a debt collection agency with a 20-year history of landing unbid contracts with the government has closed on a condo in The Plaza, city records show. Jerold B. Katz, the patriarch of the Houston family that owns GC Services limited, paid over $4 million for Unit 1711.

GC Services has repeatedly been in the spotlight for its campaign contributions to office holders who award state contracts. Between 1980 and 2006, also Mr. Katz made nearly 50 campaign contributions to various local and federal politicians, including Bill Clinton and Richard Gephardt.

The employees of GC SERVICES are so full of ###! Let me tell you something. Those ### at the call center keep calling my house for someone who doesn't even live here! Despite the fact that every damn day I tell that spineless ### who keeps calling that no one by that name lives here the calls persist day in and day out. They went so far as to call my neighbors house and ask them to bring a note for the guy who used to live at this address and ask him to call them at there [protected] number. What a bunch of ###. I called GC SERVICES back to get their address to write them and request that they stop calling me, and my neighbors and they refused to give it to me. I called again to ask for a supervisor they refused to connect me or to transfer me to anyone. Loosers! My next phone call is the to Fair Credit Collection Protection Agency and the BBB. Get a life loosers and check your facts first, before you call and bother people that don't even OWE you money! You pieces of ###! Thats right this is Maria in Bedford Ohio, again, you dirtbags! And NO Daniel is not at this address or phone #, and has not lived here since 2004... Jerks, you got that now? STUPID Quit calling my house.

I made deal with GC service to pay off Amex bill so that they would not put bad record on my credit report. I borrowed the money from my close friends $8000 each. 2 of them wired the money and one sent the check via mail. I kept called them to find out if they recieved the payment or not. After 3 weeks of daily calls, the check was returned. How could mailed check would returned unless you refused to receive it? With this delay, Amex still reported 120 days non-payment on my credit report and added additional charge. I called both GC service and Amex and they told me that there was nothing they could do and I still have to pay additional fee after they ruin my credit score.

Those who are working with GC services, please do not pay any money to them. It is better to settle the matter at the court. they will ruin you anyway.

Some are very unprofessional at GC and are liars. I have paid of my debt as agreed and have been requesting a letter of release since 10 APR 08. I finally asked them to fax me the letter and I still have not received the fax or the mailed copy from them. I spoke with several employees but mainly deal with one person in attempts to get my letter. After awhile they became very rude and stated they would not help me. I then asked to speak with a supervisor and instead I had employees pretending as if they were. I realized by speaking to a customer representative the person I had been speaking with was a supervisor and the employee was pretending as though she was. The employee was extremely rude and obnoxious. She hung up the phone several times and said I was harassing them and not to call the number anymore as though I was calling her home. I finally spoke with who I assume was a supervisor and still did not receive appropriate service from GC. I was told to wait for the letter to come in the mail and she had a conference to attend. I have to agree with those that have had a negative experience with G C Services. GC is not a very professional company and if you could use another company to conduct your business I suggest you do.

This is one of several gencies that is contacting us on our car phone. They have been told many times that the person they are trying to reach is not associated with this entity. I have been getting calls for the past several days and finally one of them left a message. I called back and informed them that the phone number now belongs to our Trust. The agent asked if I knew the person they were trying to reach. He finally spelled the last name since on previous calls I couldn't figure it out. Theere is no one by that name afiliated with this entity. Theere is no one of that ethnicity affiliated with this entity. He said he would remove the number from his files. I've heard that before. it isn't true. I expect these calls to continue as long as we have the phone number.

Anyone who posted a comment that defends the actions of unscrupulous debt collectors is obviously one themselves!

Yes, collectors have the right to make contact BUT they do NOT have the right to be abusive, harassing or excessive. Not all consumers in debt are deadbeats -- many have suffered financial hardships due to loss of employment, illness, death of a spouse, etc.

Debt collectors just want their commission and have to treat people like crap so they don't lose their job for being too soft!

The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) is in place to help protect consumers against abusive collection tactics!

Consumers! Take a stand against abusive debt collectors and file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) at www.ftc.gov and your State Attorney Generals Office (www.naag.org). If your state allows it, record calls from abusive debt collectors and save all abusive messages you receive as proof. Contact an attorney experiences with the FDCPA (www.naca.net) -- most take cases like this on a contingency basis or through a class action. You don't have to be intimidated, abused or harassed!

ATTN: GC Services Employees

What a bunch of CRAP! You don't want to call consumers? Please! That is why the creditor hired you -- to contact the debtor and get payment. The consumer (customer) IS often the customer of the debt collection agency due to the account being sold to the collection agency or debt junk buyer for pennies on the dollar.

Quit treating consumers like idiots and follow the federal law -- it's called the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) -- ever heard of it?
