garnishment/ fraud
this student loan was obtained via fraud in 1995. Five years later i found it on my credit report. i have gone to everyone from the origional lender that made the bad loan, united student aid funds, (USAFUNDS) to the ombudsman, law inforcement including the FBI, sallie mae angd GC Services who has garnished my wages for the last 12 months. every penny went to collection costs and interest. GCS offered me a hearing on my case so i fowarded information to request a hearing but never heard from them again except to respond to 'my request for validation of my student loan'. they assured me that it was and in spite of $3, 957 so far taken from money owed to me, the balance has gone from $7995, to $8842. it appears now that they have sold the note and notices of more garnishments have been recieved. the origional loan had my SS#, not my PH#, not my address, not my signature. apparently DOE could care less.
is there anywhere that an average 60 yr old working full time, supporting two kids on 28K a year can get help from this government/laywer/beancounter integrityless beatdown.
sincerely,
monte s hale

illegal harrashment and threats
GC Services called a friend of mine who happnes to be an attorney and states they were with a law firm and they were looking for me demaning that I owe them money. This company has to be stopped at all cost. I was just on a WEB site and they have millions of complaints. Is there anyone that can offer any advice about going legal. The stories I read on the web about this collection ageny says do not pay them at all cost. Let your creidtor.. end user werather it be a car not or credit card what they do and ask then to stop doing business with this company. I am still fuming and now after reading so many similar stories I want to go after this company. I am looking to see if anyone else would have any advice or would go in on a class action law suit against this company. DO NOT PAY THEM A DIME... REPORT them IMMEDIATLY. Read the millions of complaints against this company and then form a group and go after this lawless ### og a company and try to put them out of business!

scam
Last week I received a noticed from GC Services for a ticket violation. I had never received a single noticed before, so it seemed very strange to me. When I called, the person I spoke to was very rude and condescending. She told me my ticket violation happened in 2007 and followed that by a number of threats letting me know what could happen if I didn't pay them. I had no prior knowledge of any incident, so I told her I would call the court. She wanted my employer information, but I refused to give it to her. She then hung up. When I called the court I was unable to obtain any additional information because they just have an automated service. I called GC Services again and wanted to know more information. I asked the same girl who answered my call earlier what their interest on the fine was and she rudely responded that the balance due was the amount of the original ticket. According to GC services I owe $681 on a ticket violation I never received. After reading several of the comments I plan to go to court and speak to a judge. Like others have stated GC Services is unethical in their practices and a complete scam.
bad place to work
GC Services *** to work at...their Management and the ethics and politics is one of the worst places I have ever been to. DO NOT WORK THERE! it will be the worst decision you will ever make. I worked there for 6 years and they let me go without any reason! Absolutely ridiculous. Thinking that you are a valued employee..it all matters on who brings in more money. There are multiple law suites pending of un-ethical behavior! Did I mention their management ***...THEIR MANAGEMENT sucs. Times are tough but this place is the worst to work for.
screwed me up
GC Services contacted me via phone and inspite of verifying the last 4 digits of my SSN and them agreeing I was not the person they wanted. They still mailed me a statement I again contacted them verbally and in writing stating the debt wasn't mine. The continued to write harrassing and threatening letters and I handed the matter over to my attorney. They never apologised but after 90 days my attorney and I both finally got a letter from the original creditor that they had the incorrect person - the original creditor "EdFund" apologized for any inconvenience I had been caused and explained that they used "skip tracing". However this whole thing cost me $925 in attorney fees to prove my innocence. And my attorney tells me it would cost even more to go after them to recover my costs. So GC Services and Edfund are definitely bottom feeders and I truly believe I got screwed.
extremely unprofessional and unethical!
I have had to deal with the rudest representatives from this company GC Services! Not only have the customer service reps acted unprofessional
but went as far as debiting my account against my request. My account is now overdrawn big time and I am still waiting for resolution!
I informed them that I was on unemployment, but it had been exhausted, therefore, they would not be able to draw the funds out of my account...
well they of course...still did...and have now cost me more money!
I was even asked by a CSR, "well, how are you going to pay your rent and
carnote"? I could not believe the audacity and unprofessional attitude of
this CSR!
Oh my gosh! The same thing happened to me! And since my bank a count was overdrawn, my bank closed my account.
On the plus side, they can't take anything out, but they said it was my fault!
I particularly love their suggestions of "getting another job" or asking a friend to borrow money.
AND when I tell them I'd rather have a roof over my head than pay them they get mad and hang up on me.
Ugh. These people are awful!
student loan fraud
I have student loan debt. The U.S. Department of Education sold my defaulted student loans to Pioneer Credit Recovery and only Pioneer. My paycheck started getting garnished 01-2010 for my student loan debt. I assumed it was from Pioneer Credit Recovery. It was from this company GC services I've never heard of or spoken with. The only way I even heard their name was through my HR department at work. I am still not sure how they can garnish someone without proper legal notification! GC services after I finally found how to contact them stated that they are garnishing me for a student loan sold to them from the U.S. Department of Education! USDOE has no idea who they are and stated none of my loans were sent to them. This is clearly fraud. BEWARE! I am currently trying to find out more information and get these fraudulent garnishments stopped! 15% of disposable income is crippling especially when it's not benefiting me in any way.
GC services does not buy loans, and when you owe a federal debt you can and will be garnished without them having to take you to court. Did you just forget about the loans you took out? and the fact that they are insured by the federal government, which means you are screwed, if you do not contact Direct Loans aka William D Ford you will never get it paid off. Direct Loans will take your loans out of default and give you a payment based on income not loan size, you can do it online this will stop offsets and garnishments. GC services didnt pull your info out of the air if they garnished you they had the right to do it so man up and handle it.
harrassment/insubordination
after several months of asking for a letter of explanation regarding my collection account, i finally got a real answer...they don't send information! a gal that had phoned me numerous times and i would return her calls, said "whoever spoke with you before LIED because she didn't want to DEAL with your request." i have been aware of all of the scams over the phone and internet and am leary about giving checking accounts information over the phone but, the gal said they were "For real." Really? is that why every time i call nobody knows the "call-back name?'' i find that hard to believe if you are a professional collections agency. i spoke to a rep when i called for the "lady who is handling my account" and she insisted that if i gave her the info, she would get it to my rep, Miss heather varola, well after a fifteen minute phone call with this gal, i hang up and who calls me back...miss varola! she needed all of the infor that i gave the previous lady AGAIN! i did not and told her to look at the notes that i am sure were added inot the computer and all of her answers would be there. she hung up in my ear. i am going to once again try to get a supervisor but, i know the agents just act as one because the real supervisors are already overwhelmed with complaints...come on guys, if you want your money, be pleasant, you have no idea what the debtor may be going through.

parking fine
GC Services is rude, but worse incompetent. They do not honor payment agreements, do not send out bills as promised, and then demand full payment and start harassiing phone calls.
Complain, complain, complain to the Better Bus Bureau, Superior Court, everywhere you can. They will damage your credit and leave you with few options. I have heard that you can go back to the court and pay whatever fine. Do it and lets nail them.

rude
I am a real estate agent attempting to process a short sale. I would like to let you know how EXTREMELY disappointed I am in GC Services. I am attempting to process a short sale and GC Services is the collection agency on behalf of Chase. GC refuses to submit my offer to Chase because they are saying it is to low. I truly need some help because this company is being of no service. I have never been treated so rudely or disrespected in such a manner before while trying to conduct a short sale.

You will stop GCS from contacting you if you tell them you are going to file a Attorney General complaint in your state, as well as the State of Missouri. Believe me, this will stop them dead in their tracks, because they will take your threat to do this to heart. Every AG consumer complaint they get is listed and tracked, and it also costs GCS a ton of money to pay these attorneys for billable hours to review each documented complaint against them. If they continue to call, file the AG complaint in both states. There is also a very good chance they will fire the collector that initiated the calls to you. Collection agencys do not want you to know this, because if every one did exactly this, they would be put out of business real quick~period!
calling for a relative
Some guy from GC Services by the name of Joe Curtis at extension 5007 called my house for my brother who lives in another state. I don't even know how this guy got our number here as we have never dealt with the company. He was very rude to my husband and told him we need to have my brother contact him. I rarily even talk to my brother and don't have a way to contact him. I know that according to the laws this guy cannot legally call my house looking for my brother. However I see that this company is known for their illegal calls and activities, I filed a complaint with the DoNotCallList as our number is on there and this was definitely illegal. I do not see why they are still allowed to be in business they should be fined millions of dollars for their harassment of peoples families - it is illegal to for them to call anyone besides the person they are dealing with. They really need to read the laws and refrain from calling my home, I will bring law enforcement into it and will be contacting all of my legislators for both state and federal to file complaints against this company and this person working for them this Joe Curts was very rude and has no businessss calling my home ever ever ever. The law should be doing something about this company immediately. They should be put out of business and fined millions and millions of dollars for the harassment.

not trustworthy, sly, pushy
Very unprofessional and sly. While negotiating with Richard Ramirez, and the rest of his staff working under him, watch yourself. He attempted to force me into a settlement that was going to become null and void before I could overnight payment to them. Used pushy "hard sell" tactics to hide the due date. Offered a different settlement than what was offered to me in writing. I submitted proof of this practice to thier client, Citi Recovery, directly.
On the attached proof, notice the fax date and time is 9/30/09 5:36 (which was 6:36 my time). The deadline to send a check or money order was the next day, notice the due date of the offer before it became null and void. There was no way I could send a package overnight by any carrier to meet that deadline. When brought this to Richard's attention, he simply would not engage in that topic. He changed the proposal, but yet refused to send me a written offer or correct this one.

fraud alert
This is the absolute worst collection company ive dealt with. They wont agree to an amount to send. It ranged from $800 up to $1300. By check over the phone ONLY. I called them to ask about an address that came on a balance due statement from GC Services, I was going to send a $50 payment just to get something started. They told me I wasn't aloud to send payments through the mail. And I was also told I didn't have the right to dictate my own payments.I guess they wont get anything at all. Dictate That!

harassment/family
I have received a call for a couple of weeks from a out of state number. I do not answer phone numbers that I do not know. They never left a message. Finally one night curiosity got the best of me and I answered the phone. It was a guy by the name of Dominic working for GC Services. They were looking for my parents. When I asked with the call was in regards too, he told me that my father signed a contract with him and he needs to get in touch with him. Then he started to rattle off personal information about my parents. I asked him how he got my phone number and he would not answer the questions. I then told him that if he is not going to tell me the truth to what this call is in regards too then we have nothing further to talk about. He got very aggressive and said that I should give my father the number on my caller ID and have him call him back. I was ready to call the cops because I thought that someone had stolen my parent’s identity due to the amount of personal information this Dominic guy had of my family. I finally looked on the internet and found out that GC Services is a collection agency.

threatening harrassing criminal behavior
I have a credit card debt with GC SERVICES...this customer service representative Named Audrey has been calling me and my daughter for six months straight..Now she is calling me from her personal lan line cell phone and telling my daughter that she was going to drag her off to jail and that her mommy could be killed if she did not pay the bill immediately..i am going to the police with this matter and file an action lawsuit with this company..I am sick of these people who think they can get away with this type of sick behavior..not only this..she googled my address looked up a neighbors phone number and sent the neighbor to my house saying she was a sick relative that I needed to call her..she is breaking the law and harrassing me yet she still wont stop..Im trying to get this company blocked because they are violating FCC regulations and all kinds of laws just to get their money..when they are clearly not going to to get it..right now..I can guarantee someone will pay for this and that is the company..

You should pay your bills like all good Americans do or don't borrow if you don't plan to pay, because if you borrow and don't pay back what you borrowed then someone is out that much less than before and you owe so they will try to recover what you said that you would payback.
Its common sense lady, pay back what you borrow unless you are a thief and just wonted to get over, and didn't expect to be asked for it in return, then that would be stupid if you thought you could get free money! If you are a poor person then you should of never borrowed because you know you don't have the means to pay back. That's the key to being humble.
working for gc
OMG! I don't think GC Services can hire anyone over the age of 21...lol. There is so much unprofessionalism going on its a wonder how they are still in business...We used coffee straws at the end of our headsets and have to wait almost two hours after clocking in just to work due to there not being enough headsets... RIDICULOUS...They need to hire "REAL" managers. The management team, in XM office
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
I worked for GC Services for over four years. I met the goals set almost every month and was collector of the year for three years of the four.
I was courteous, people would speak to me because I "was not mean like the other collectors". They were referring to any
agency.
My downfall was that I brought in too much money two months in those four years. Our manual stated that there was no cap on the amount we could earn. The first time I brought in more then they thought I should, my manager warned me not to do that again. I avoided that problem for two years. For the second time I brought in too much and for the second time they withheld a large part of my commission
check, well over a thousand dollars.
This has happened to others in Oklahoma City. I believe the manual has been rewritten since then. I cannot think well of a company that keeps money you have legally earned.
threatening the employer
I just received a voice mail from GC Services (not knowing who they are) I returned their call only to find out they are a collection agency demanding that I give them information on either a past or present employee. I explained to the person on the phone we do not release any information without a signed release and he told me he doesn't have one and that if I do not release the information he would mark the company as non compliant and we would be held responsible for the debt for not giving him any information as to whether the person is still employed. I told him to send me a Subpeona for the information and he informed me that the information is not court mandated. He then demanded my name over and over again so I hung up on him. What gives these companies the right to threaten the employers?...
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
They don't have the right. They just have the gaul.
They can't do anything to an employer who is following privacy laws. I worked in Human Resources, and you are in the right. Had you given the information, the employee (or former employee) could sue you.
an employee being very rude
A so called MR. Messenger has called me on two different occasions. He is very rude. Will not allow me to speak. If I do happen to get a word in then he ends up hanging up on me. He is nothing but a jerk. He implies that you haven't even tried to pay your debt and that you are lower than the lowest. He is very impolite and acts like he is of higher standings than you are. Well for Mr. Messenger or any other rude, impolite jerk from this company I have news for you we all end up the same I have taken care of well to do people and also people that don't have a dime to there name. And let me tell you in the end the "better" people the ones that have more money are in the same shape as the "unworthy" the poor people. Having to have others take care of them (feed, bath, change, brush ther teeth). And when they are lying in a pool of there on feces and urine ask yourself are they any better than anyone else? I don't think so! So if you are going to call me then you need to check yourself before I answer the phone and have a little respect for me or you do not have the right to even dial my number. I am not wealthy by no means but I have a better understanding of human descency than your employees. The debt that I owe is to one of the car companies that the government has so graciously bailed out of there diffcult finances so to that I say I will pay you when the government stops pampering you and starts taken care of the rest of us. Even if I had the money I would not pay it thourgh this company I would pay the car company directly. I'm sure this complaint is going to do some good with the way you conduct business but if nothing else if someone happened to read it then maybe they will try and treat the next person halfway like a human being.

unwarranted letter to me
I have an auto loan thru WELLS FARGO. I am NOT & NEVER have been in default on this auto loan. I was never informed by Wells Fargo they were going to farm my personal info to a 3rd party collections agency. Today I received a letter telling me I had an outstanding debt. I tried to call Wells Fargo but it was too late in the day when I received the letter. I will call them on Monday (June 15th 2009) and try to get to the bottom of this UNWARRANTED notice letter. To make matters worse, when I tried to get an explanation from GC Services today the Customer Service Rep HUNG UP ON ME! This is totally unacceptable behavior on GC Services. I was not being rude or hostile to the Customer Service Rep. I was trying to understand why I would get a letter of this nature when I don't owe Wells Fargo any money.
I ask other consumers to complain directly to their Finance companies and maybe this will help to stop this kind of behavior.

to all other users & readers of this Complaint Board..as I mentioned above I discovered this website called www.nolo.com that has a whole slew of EASY to understand, written LEGAL ADVice and books for a layperson advice regarding rights and disputes, including but not limited to renters rights, consumer rights, employee rights, go to court or mediate?, how bankruptcy can forestall or avoid foreclosure on your home, etc. etc. and no I don't get any money from this endorsement. I just like to help people.
Please go to the website www.nolo.com for FREE or very inexpensive legal advice on a ton of different topics. I googled and found out this is a legit company. Wells Fargo also verified that they found GS was legit. But that doesn't mean they don't do dumb stuff. PLEASE PLEASE PLease, get the info you need from Nolo to protect your rights as a consumer. Nolo is really great. Hope this helps you.

I received a notice stating I owed the city of vallejo superior court. Over 1900.00 dollars when I have never been to court, lived in or have ever been arrested in Sonoma county or in vallejo when I called the court they couldn't find what I was talking about so when I called GCS they got outrageously rude and obnoxious and claim if I don't pay in 90 days they will have my driving privileges revoked and my retirement attached. Im seeking an attorney
.these people need to know we have rights.
GC services "customer services reps" are so incredibly rude and hostile it's ridiculous. I don't think any person has ever been so disrespectful to me ever.. and it's not just one employee it's the 6 i had to speak with.
The reason for the letter is simple if you never got informed of it. The letter states that you have an outstanding debt to WFAF. It comes with balance on the letter along with a notification that you had spoken to a GCS rep about the outstanding balance. There is nothing to get angry over when it comes to the letter. Any company that a customer deals with does not have to inform the client that they are going to be using a 3rd party collections team. The letter is from GCS not from WFAF. In fact GCS has collected WFAF accounts for almost 8 years and just recently, in March of 2009, became a 3rd party at WFAF's request.
GC collections made an agreement with me to pay a certian amount each month for a student loan! Ive been making the payments as agreed ! Now they want to raise my monthly payments and threatened me with garnishment of my Disability checks! Iam making the payments they set up and on time ! Can they garnish my disability if i dont now pay more ?
Like most of you I had a bad experience with GC today. This man Robert Robinson called me being totally disrespectful. He yelled at me, and honestly I got upset and spoke out of my character. I am not a person to get in disputes with anyone or be disrespectful, but I couldn't re frame from defending my self verbally. I asked to speak with his Manager, the manager was more disrespectful than the employee. I HAVE CONTACTED MY LAWYER AND BBB...its not over. I am willing to pay my debt through the company whom I owe...these people aint gettin a dime of my MONEY...
Usually I receive a letter in the mail from the collection agency. I have not received any document by mail from them nor, the corporation who I owe. I like to see it on paper. It is too many businesses that are working fraudulently...how can you make an agreement when someone is being disrespectful, raising voices and being sarcastic. On top of that he said...so how would you like too pay...ARE YOU SERIOUS
Why doesn't everyone change their phone numbers, stop applying for credit cards and stop giving free money to Collection bottom-feeders people, let them all go out of business and maybe we can breathe better. STOP paying Collection Agencies. It's pure profit to top off their minimum wage existence. Beat these stress-causing agents! Please!
i have delt with them before and am still dealing with them. i have a seatbelt ticket from 2005 and i owed 169 GC servises now say i owe them 469. These people are very rude and will not work with you. They call my cell phone when i am at work and they call about five times in a row.I will not pay them any money i will continue to send my money to the court. I HAVE COMPLAINED TO THE COURT TOO AND THE ASSISTANT SAID THEY ARE THE WORST AND MOST UNPROFESSIONAL COLLECTION AGENCIE EVER. AND I AGREE!
I just received a notice on my credit report that the account that I opened with Dish Network in Aug. 2009 is delinquent $1000 as of Sep. 2009. This is news to me as I have never signed any contracts with dish network. I received the notification on behalf of Dish Network from G C Credit services
I have had a similar experience. I had an account with AT&T that went into collection to GC Services in Oct. 2003. I paid it in full to GC Services on 6/14/2004. I have not heard from anyone until 7/18/09, I received 2 letters from Palisades Collections trying to collect two
different amounts--$699.00 and $527.00 for AT&T from 2005. I went online and looked at all 3 of my credit reports and there they were as adverse or negative accounts. So I took my time and disputed each one, in hopes this will be resolved. What the hell is going on? Is it due to the bad economy, and they are trying to collect debts twice from hard working honest people? Not happening with me!
Bill collecters are all the same: they threaten your life to get the money they say you owe. One threatened to charge me with fraud. It was not. I did not anticapate getting fired from my job when I had credit cards.
But the collecters don't give a rats behind about that. They will lie to you, make your life miserable, and afraid to answer the phone or open the mail box.
false impression
Douglas Moulin at [protected] Ext 5021 called me this morning asking for my brother. He said it was regarding a business matter and asked if I knew how to reach him. I asked how they got my number, he said my brother must have written it down as a reference. I said that is impossible because no on in my family has my number. I said I hadn't seen or talked to him in a year and didn't have a way to reach him. He left me his number and requested that I have my brother call. I took down the information and looked up the company, finding all of this ruthless information. Pretty pathetic tactics. I haven't even had the same last name in more than 20 years, I am now curious how they got my phone number. It is unlisted, unpublished, and only my work and children have it. I called them back and told them to remove my number, was put on hold for more than 10 minutes and finally hung up. I am contacting my state AG and reporting harrassment. I am responsible for myself only, no one else. If they call me again, there will be hell to pay.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
I am going to be contacted by CG Services. Lucky me. I don't need credit. Don't have the money to pay off some debt but I do know how to hang up the telephone. My cell has caller ID so I can block that call and ignore my home 'phone.
I chose not to play this game but hey nearly everybody who was making money 18 months ago went down in flames. Stuff happens. I'm not going to live in a tent down by the river because some bankers are jacka**es.
This is not a moral issue for me. It is just another pothole in the road of life.
To CG services; Tough getting money out of this guy he is not going to be intimidated.
I previously worked for GC Services, and it is possible that your brother put you down as a reference. Whenever a client is put on a repayment program, they are required to have references (family, friends, coworkers, etc) that we may contact in case we lost touch with them (phone was disconnected, for example). Whether or not your brother told you that you were one of his references is not GC Services fault. That was his responsibility to inform you.
I understand your frustration. Last year, a collection agency working for a company I do not owe money to (having paid off the loan 7 years ago) contacted my ex-husband of 14 years at his home I never shared with him in a different city and county and phone number than where we lived when we were married. All this because at the time I took out the loan, he was listed as my next of kin (still my spouse at that time). He didn't give them any information. I had also remarried several years ago and lived in another state! This collection agency had my address and correct name as well.
Collection agencies will harass anyone they think is connected to you in any way, especially if they are not making headway with you. It's all about intimidation. Your brother can send them a certified letter telling them they do not have permission to contact him again. You can also send them a certified letter telling them they cannot talk to you or anyone else, connected to you or not. Under Title VIII they must comply, but anything not communicated by certified letter will be ignored if at all possible.
What is the pain about this is how they get the information in the first place. Among other services, Intellus.com gives tons of information, a bit of it for free, much more if you pay a fee. They can track a person by aliases, possible past addresses, possible phone numbers, possible employers, possible criminal records, possible relatives, etc. Note I said "Possible." This is because services like Intellus do not guarantee the correctness of the information theysupply (even for a fee) and the fine print suggests you verify the information. But an amazing amount of "possible" information is out there. Under my husband's name, possible relatives included his mother, deceased father, sister, brother-in-law, brother, sister-in-law, nephews, underage nieces, and his ex-wife. My name showed not only my ex-husband as a possible relative, but also HIS new wife. It's nuts.
