$10 month to month scam
Last week, late November 2009, a flyer was put on my car windshield that advertised a ten dollar a month, month to month membership. It also said that there was no commitment, no gimmicks, no kidding. It also was handwritten in that the last day the special was available was December 1, 2009. The only other information on the flyer was the locations and phone numbers to where this special was being offered. I called one of the locations and asked a few questions and was satisfied that this was something I wanted to do. So on November 30, yesterday, I went in to sign up. After about an hour of my time being wasted, I was told that in order to get the advertised special, it would cost me over two hundred dollars in fees. Nowhere on the flyer was there any indication of any other fees or special stipulations. And the last gyms I was a member of never charged me up front fees so I did not know I was supposed to ask about them as I was later told by an employee who answered the phone there when I called to complain today. Had it been indicated on the flyer that there would be applicable fees and stipulations I never would have gone up there and wasted my time and gas. But as it is, I feel that my time was stolen from me.

First and foremost I would like to take responsibility for not reading what I was signing with more scrutiny. Here's my situation. Early September, I signed a Once-a-week personal trainer contract for $120/mo. This is fine, this is what I wanted. On September 24th, 2009, I decided that I wanted to train an additional day a week. I was informed that thi...

I was a member of Gold Gym Scottsdale for a year, then gave up my membership because my company offered a cheaper corporate membership with LA fitness. After I cancelled my Golds Gym membership I discovered there was a Golds closer to my work and they offered yoga and zumba classes at 630, which was perfect because I work until 6pm. So, I went in to the Golds and asked them if I could try out the classes to see if I wanted to be a member again, as I did not have any interest in using the gym - only going to those two classes. The guy at the gym said that I should just renew my membership at my old rate (20 a month) and if I didn't like the classes then cancel, as he COULD ONLY GET ME MY OLD RATE BACK THAT DAY, if I came back the next day I wouldn't get that rate. Because 20 dollars is pretty cheap, I wanted to make sure I got that rate if I choose to go back. So I agreed. Well. HE LIED! The classes were HORRIBLE, no one except me showed up to the yoga class, and the zumba class was interrupted by cheerleading practice and only lasted 20 min. So, it was not worth me being a member again. In addition, he charged me 25 a month - not the 20 a month he promised. And when I tried to cancel he said I was stuck in a 12 month contract... which WAS NOT what he said when I first went in. I AM VERY VERY VERY UPSET and will tell everyone I know to NEVER EVER go to golds gym. HORRIBLE customer service and dirty sales job... BOO ON YOU!

over charge — unauthorized charge to my debit card
After cancelling my membership, which totalled to be almost $200, I checked my account and saw that ABC Financial charged me an additional $29. This has happened to me several times while I had membership with them. I was uncertain where the additional charges came from. When I cancelled, as I have read on other complaints on this site, I was told that all I had to pay was an $89 cancellation fee along with what I owed for the previous month and present month. The representative assured me that was all I had to pay, but to the contrary, I saw that it wasn't. NOW I AM FILING A CLAIM AGAINST THEM TO MY BANK! I'LL ALSO SEND A LETTER TO THE SENATOR TO "LIGHT A FIRE UNDER THEM". Hopefully, with enough complaints, those who have suffered being overcharged can get their money back.

customer service
The other day, I complained to the manager (Pat King) about some equipment being out of service for an long period of time. When I brought it up to him, he blamed the service people for the machine for stealing the plugs and said that "They were on top of it.". With that I was dismissed. If they had been "on top of it", the machines wouldn't have been...

Green Bay Gold's is a disgrace to this fine community. They moved into Green Bay in May 2008. They bought out an small, inferior existing club and billed this as a preview site and sold lots of contracts on a new club that they planned to build across the street. It's now October 2009 and they no concrete plans to build a new club. They have floated a number of plans of development and we still don't have a new club built. I was sold a two year contract on the verbal promise that a new club was going to be built within a few months. A major part of the sales process was the architectural diagram of the new club and all it's amenities. Also the verbal sales job that within a few months the new club would begin construction. Gold's got my money and signature on a contract through deception and possible fraud. Last February (2009) I asked to be let out of this contract because they deceived me in the sales process. They would not take the high road and let me leave and part as friends. No they are holding this bogus contract over me and have sent it to collection. Is there anybody out there in Green Bay who has been victimized by these bait and switch scam artists? I know that I have damages because of the collections being reported on my credit report. If there are more of us out here perhaps we may have a suit against them. It seems that Gold's only responds to the profit motive and not do what makes sense to maintain a good reputation in our community. It's no wonder this outfit has a 'F' rating from the BBB. Stay away from Gold's Green Bay. Contact me if you have been victimized and perhaps we can consult with an attorney. At the very least, make a contribution to this thread and make your voice be heard.

Don't be fooled by the $10/month thing you hear about in their ads. The business gets off on the wrong foot right away, because the last thing you learn right before you want to sign a contract for membership is that there is a $30 annual fee (?WTH?). There's some sob story about how this goes toward getting new equipment etc. OK fine, but advertise $12.50/month instead. This is a monkey trick.
Their ads in the newspapers or radio state in plain English $10/month... it ends up being $12.50/month w/ the $30 annual fee. OH and this doesn't even mention their other monkey trick of sign up fees. You MUST pay for your first and final month up front, so that's $20. Then there's some monkey trick "sign up fee" that varies, depending on their promotion. Wes (a decent enough human being) offered me the "Student Discount" so I only had to cough up $20 instead of $50. Apparently the Gold's company suffers a lot and has to offset its costs by adding you to their list of donors, so they hit you up for, in my case, $20 for the privilege of tithing $12.50 a month until they either raise the rates on you, or you cancel.
Regarding cancellation. Beware this monkey trick. They'll hit you up for the $30 "annual fee" (the one that for all intents makes your monthly fee = $12.50) preemptively. In other words, not after you've been there a year, but before. In my case they helped themselves to the $30 during my second month as a member. So if you decide to pull the plug, you're already out $40.00 (1st and last month mandatory up front) + $20-$50 registration + $30 annual. Basically if you change your mind within the first month and want to quit, you lost up to $120... Wait there's more monkey tricks.
You need to make up your mind within the first month that you're going to quit, and send them a letter before a month passes, IN WRITING, to their Appleton office. No you can't just drop it off at the desk in green bay. You need to ask them for a form at the Green Bay Gym, fill it out, purchase a stamp, and drop it in the mail with the correct address on it. The monkey trick about paying for your first and final month comes into play here. If you wait more than 30 days after you join, they'll help themselves to $10 more of your dollars, & your fiasco will cost you $130 instead of $120.
I joined Gold's on Oneida after I had been eyeballing it several months. I intended on joining over a year ago, but some unprofessional hack of an employee working the desk really revolted me. I didn't have my wallet with me and she demanded my drivers license. That's a fair enough, honest enough request, but the way she did it was so disgusting that I threw up in my mouth and didn't go back until about a year later. I guess I'm glad I waited because contracts were even more of a nightmare back then. I'd been using the gym @school, anyway.
This time I went b/c I was entering summer break from school so I already had it in my head I was signing up and I walked in early June, 2011 to do so. Lucky for yet another extremely rude and unprofessional hack at the front desk who told me they don't honor the 7 day passes, I already knew I was going to join regardless of how crass these hacks are. What's weird is, I printed this 7 day pass off of their GREEN BAY website, only to have some hack rudely inform me they don't honor them. Other than these gross encounters of the 3rd kind w/ their ghetto unprofessional staff, the gym itself is nice. I like the cardio cinema and their weight room is awesome. I generally ignore the creatures that troll around wearing "Golds Gym Staff" polos, with the exception of a few of them. The night time staff is pleasant: the buff dude at the desk (Brad?) and the Mexican cleaning guy. These guys are the reason I work out @night, they're chill and friendly. I avoid going during the day b/c it's crowded & u c a bunch of unprofessional a**holes running around in "Gold's Gym" polos.
Everything advertised sounds wonderful which is why I'm interested in joining in the first place. Yes, I know they are not on commission. However, the pressure the company puts on its employees is passed on to the customers. And they, along with their Financial company, are notorious for not withdrawing correctly and is no coincidence that is the ONLY way you can pay. Especially when it comes to cancelling your membership. There are horror stories about continuing charges even after providing written notice and other issues as well. Simply do a google search or wikipedia. I just wanted to hear from someone personally that already is a member and can reference their contract and/or cancelled to see what their experience was at these two other particular locations since it is the same Owner.
The sales persons do not work on commission at Hales Corners. There is no hidden contract, it is all month to month so you can cancel anytime with a 30 day written notice. The only fee is the one time processing fee which right now is $49, or if you wait to join it is a $99 enrollment fee and a $49 processing fee to join. You also have an annual maintenance fee of $29 every year, and your month to month charge at whatever plan it is you like. I do the $19.99 because I have been a member with Gold's before and the classes are worth it. The Hales Corners staff has walked through the construction and seen the stages of progress and it is coming along great. Perhaps GreenBay was one of the first they built where they didn't realize how long and what obstacles there might be.
I signed up for Gold's in Hales Corners just two weeks ago and it really is just the $49 processing fee and $29 annual fee. I picked the Value Plus Membership though because I love Spin Classes! Love It!
The owner of Appleton and Green Bay is opening a new gym in Hales Corners. They currently have the preview center set up with the architectural diagrams right next to where the facility will be. Unlike Green Bay, the gym has already begun construction and is currently in the duct work stage. They are offering the same month-to-month $10 or $19.99/mo for the Value Plus membership with the $49 processing fee and $29 annual fee. That's the only fees I'm aware of. I've reviewed the contract online from Appleton/Green Bay's website and can't seem where they would "get me". Since it's monthly, I'm confused how I would have problems cancelling. The only thing I can foresee is that they don't stop charging my card which I will then turn it over to my credit card company. I just want to go and loose weight without the high pressure sales pitch. I do not have a "friendly/approachable" attitude and don't think I will have any problems saying "no". I want to get the Value Plus membership (because it comes with tanning) but want to make sure I know ALL the little details & other fees (that I don't know about) that I'm sure they will fail to mention. Any help is appreciated.
I too was scammed by the new gym ploy. I called every month to ask when the new place would open, and they would always tell me "next month, " or by XX date. When I finally figured out they were moving to another strip mall, I called again to complain and the swore it would be open on July 4th. I got my gym bag ready and decided just to be safe I'd call ahead. Guess what? They were not open yet. I was two months shy of fulfilling my TWO YEAR contract with them. I did manage to get out of only one month's payment. But the only reason I joined was because of the new facility. I was a very unhappy customer! And believe me, they knew it.
Gold's Gym is a joke. For all of you defending them try and cancel your membership and see how you feel then. My wife and I went in to check into a membership. We had our children put into their supposed "child care". After signing our paperwork for a membership we went back to get our kids. Our 2 year old son was walking around the room crying with his pants down, completely covered in his own urine and toilet water. Their employee there said she didn't know what to do. It's not so much she didn't know what to do as it was, NOBODY TOOK THE TIME TO ATTEMPT TO FIND US. If you don't know what to do wouldn't it make sense to find the parents at the very least? So, we immediatley decided to cancel the membership and off course it couldn't be done on the spot, we had to go throught their whole policy and send written notice to the cooropate office. Fine, we did all that and still) 1. Can't get a hold off anyone who apparently is able to use a computer and cancel a membership. 2. More than a month later we are now being charged for a membership that we BY LAW cancelled. I'm hoping our credit card company will remove the charges and take up this fight for us. If they don't I will exhaust all my resources to make as many people associated with Gold's Gym hate me.
I signed up after the new gym was built, and therefore was not burned by the "new gym coming soon" promises. I do agree though that Gold's Gym in Green Bay Wisconsin is a fraudulent company out to gouge you with bait and switch tactics. They advertise super low rates and then sock you with a bunch of fees and before you know it, you're paying triple what they advertised. My $10/month membership sounded like an awesome deal, but now in my third month I have already paid over $130 including all the extra hidden fees (enrollment fee, processing fee, first months dues, last months dues, and club enhancement fees). Worse yet, what they said the membership included ended up to be a lie. I found out tonight when I brought my son in to work out with me. He just turned 12, and was excited because he was there with me when the the Gold's Gym employee, Ty, said that when he turned 12 he could work out with me for free until he was 16 at which time he would have to pay for his own membership. Ty was very clear about this, there was no mistaking what he said. So tonight, when the ladies at the front desk told me and my son that he couldn't work out unless he had a membership, I was sure they were mistaken and I asked if Ty was working so he could clear this up. Lucky for me, Ty was working tonight, unlucky for me, Ty is a liar. He looked me right in the eye and said he never said that. My son was really upset. A little upset because of not being able to work out with me, but more upset because he heard what Ty had promised and didn't understand how he could lie like that. I spent the ride home explaining to him what "bait and switch" tactics were. I guess he has to learn like I did. When something sounds too good to be true, it probably is. If you've read this and still want to become a member there, remember - ignore what they SAY, believe only what is WRITTEN. The type is tiny and the contract is long, but DO NOT SIGN it until you've read the entire thing. Get any questions you need answered in writing on the contract itself. I'm not a redneck or a welfare case and I disagree with Mike Carter that justifiably negative comments make people in Green Bay look like that. I'm just a honest guy working for an honest pay that is upset that I've been had. I should have known better, and I hope I can save one other person from making the same mistake I did.
The new gym is open, its fabulous, and they are now going to expand it. What do all of you negative nellies have to say now? You idiots get on these worthless blogs and puke out vitriol about good people and good companies with no idea how it impacts the employees who rely on the paychecks they earn from these companies to pay their bills. It's a flippin' $30 gym membership for petesake! Get a life! You make Green Bay look like a small hick town up north filled with rednecks and welfare cases.
I somewhat disagree with all the comments. Yes, they have promised a new gym, but with the economy, some things are out of their control. I will stay with Gold's because they have the best trainers around! Their trainers are very knowledgeable and have helped me shed almost 40 pounds! The other gyms in town just don't cut it, so I believe if we hang in there, we will get our great gym we are waiting for!
scammers
I attempted to cancel my contract due to the fact that my trainer and his manager refused to return my calls for over a week. When I finally did reach their 'customer service' to discuss cancellation options they kept me on hold for over an hour. I was finally put through to a liver person who informed me that I could cancel for a fee. However, a month later I was contacted by a collection agency saying that I owed over $450 in late fees and past due payments.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
Scammed! I totally agree. Our two years contact expired last May but they don't stop withdrawing money from our bank. The last time I used there facility was in May and I was asked if I want to renew my contact and I told them no. So when we contacted them in July they said that we need to pay another month before they can stop withdrawing money from our account. We tried to get a three month pass because we paid for extra three month without knowing we are still paying for it but the general mgr said we don't do that. They can not give you something you paid for. It was a total ripped off.
scam
In 2003 I joined gold's gym on a trial basis. At the time I owned a large company and my bills were paid by a controller of my company. In 2004 I sold my company and took over my own bill paying in late 2004. At that time I noticed a charge on my credit card from golds gym. I called golds gym they said I must cancel by letter or in person. I cancelled it by letter in dec 2004.
They still did not remove the automatic credit card debit. I went to the gold's gym in April and in June of 2005 but got run around. In July of 2005 I was diagnosed with rocky maintain fever. I was out of commission till January of 2006. My wife paid my bills while I was sick not knowing that part of my credit card bill was gold's monthly charges. I sent another letter in February of 2006 and asked to cancel. They continued to hit my card. I finally cancelled the credit card to stop the charges. I called golds gym and talked to the president of the milford club. He was nasty and told me he had the right to charge my card and to increase the monthly fee per my signed contract. I asked him to send me a copy of this contract. His response was request it in writing. In November of 2007 I sent a certified demand letter under mgl 93a for unfair and deceptive acts or practices.
I requested my money back and a copy of this contract that he was relying on. A month and a half later I got a letter back from the president of gold's gym milford ma. His letter basically say to bad so sad. They don't have any contract that was signed by me or any authorization debt form signed by me. He sent me blanks with the answer of "we shredded all our contracts and documents prior to January 1, 2004. Gee I wonder why? He then sent me a copy of a letter the sent me on 9-1-04 telling me about the increase to the monthly fee. The letter is addressed "dear kevin" no last name no address. Bogus! His response to the mgl93a letter is "reimbursement of funds for your lack of due diligence is unlikely" I went on line and searched gold's gym and found thousands of complaints against gold's gym nationwide.
It's there mo sign here and pay forever till you die and even after you die if your credit card is still working! A scam that needs to be exposed.

customer care
I 've been contacting your general manager where i do my work out ( grand junction ), some how no respond on this issues.
I left emails, calls and tell the billing dept to call me resolve this issues. It's been the fourth month. Things like this make me want to quit from your Gym.
I believe contracts have to be fullfilled by both party and satisfy their needs. I pay my membership, i didnt break things or annoy other members or make your Gym dirty or other behaviours that not satisfy the company. That's my side.
I request attention like following issues:
Respond to my calls/emails, be fair with charges on my credit card, make sure the swimming pool cleaned and heated (not 70deg) because i only do swimming, make sure the locker room smell not nasty right now.
All of the above issues is still there.
My conclusion are they dont have ethics/manners, they promised something that they cant deliver.
Last month I talked with your GM to reimburse 2 month out of 3 month that they charge double on my credit card. He agreed on that and until now no action. I m so done with them.

I totally agree, management does not have the members best interests in mind. But having experience with certain person in management I have found a certain individual to be a person that does not tell the truth. But says whatever she wants to cover her own butt. I think that they should not hire all there relatives either.
manufacturer defect
I purchased my NEW ellipitcal from Walmart on [protected], the machine broke at the right side lower body leg (part #7) where the leg connects to the right pedal arm. The steel cracked at a point that was not welded from the factory, and is a clear manufacture defect. It broke as I was working out and caused me to fall forward hitting myself hard enough to...

Beware of signing a contract at Gold's Gym in Auburn Alabama. They make it very difficult and inconvenient to cancel. During the initial sign-up they will say that it's company policy not to do a month to month service or they will quote a huge month to month fee to encourage you to sign a contract to save money. They will also try and get a signing fee from you for the privilege of becoming a member. The cell phone companies at least give you a free phone. Gold's Gym tries to talk you into a sign-up fee and delivers nothing or at the very best tries to make you believe they are giving you a huge concession to waive the sign-up fee.
My daughter signed a 2 year contract after they assured her she could cancel upon Graduation from Auburn one year later (I don't know why they just didn't let her do a one year contract - oh wait - it's company policy) and told her that she could just come into the office and take care of it. This was a lie. They also neglected to tell her of the $50 cancellation fee and count on clients not reading the fine print. When she went to cancel the contract she was told she had to contact the company corporate offices in Columbus, GA. It took her awhile but she finally got someone and they told her she had to fill out a form and provide proof she was living somewhere else (what!). It turns out the form filling out thing is just a delaying tactic so they can continue to charge monthly fees. This form filling out process took 2 months! And they wanted to be paid for those two months plus the cancellation fee even though my daughter was no longer located in Auburn and it was their process that was so slow! This tacks another couple of weeks to the process to pay the bill and hopefully for them they can continue the charges and send another bill later. My daughter will never use Gold's Gym again anywhere especially in Auburn, Alabama. Their business practices are slimy at best and doesn't encourage a lifetime commitment from their customers which I just don't understand. Maybe it's the locally owned nature of Gold's Gym. They figure they will never see this person again anyway so why not try and milk them for another couple of hundred. The local Gold's Gym hides behind "corporate policy" and Corporate hides behind "Each Gold's Gym is independently owned".
P.S. If you do sign up for membership don't fall for the personal trainer scam.

Gold's Gym Augusta is doing the same to me. I went to the Gym address as it says you are to do on the contract in order to cancel membership and stop the automatic renewal for a month to month membership. They take your request for cancellation then redirect you to ABC Financial to stop automatic drafts. The problem is they don't tell you the wont actually stop charging you. Months later they claim you can only cancel by sending a registered letter to ABC Financial, even though you don't contract with ABC. ABC and Gold's both cite policy when in fact the contract is quite clear. They don't care about the contract, they just want you money and they feel immune to the threat of legal action. I encourage all who experience the same issue to contact the Governor's office of consumer protection in the state of Georgia.
One independently owned Gold's Gym in california had a report run by KCOY a Fox news affiliate prin the following report:
"Oxnard, Calif. -
Quitting a gym membership can be a workout in itself.
One of the Oxnard's biggest gyms is being sued over its cancellation operation.
Ventura County District Attorney Gregory D. Totten filed a civil lawsuit against Camarillo resident Noel Thompson, operator of Gold’s Gym of Oxnard.
The complaint deals with business practices reported to the Better Business Bureau between May of 2009 and October of 2013.
Totten said the company violated unfair business and false advertising laws by failing to provide cancellation addresses to members, refusing to accept certified mail, and initiating automatic renewal of contracts members wanted to cancel.
The suit claims the gym also used collection agencies to extort members trying to cancel contracts.
The court issued a temporary restraining order to stop the gym from transferring assets until a court hearing on the matter Nov. 15.
Thompson was not available to comment at the Gym on Gonzales Road Tuesday. A co-worker said he was not allowed to comment on the suit.
The two-story gym is known for its smoothie, bar, pool, women's only section, daycare center, cardio-theater, climbing wall and indoor and outdoor workout areas.
One online review called it "top notch."
Another complained "It takes an act of Congress to quit."
Erika Valle said she quit and rejoined but said she thought quitting should be easier, especially for members in the military who are often moved to other bases.
BBB of the Tri-Counties president Rick Copelan said, “We have provided over 1, 000 F-rated reports on this company in the last three years. This is a stark reminder of why people should do their homework and check a company’s reputation with the BBB before doing business with any company that they are not familiar with.”

If anyone of you get a phone call from Gold's Gym and ask you to join the club because if you join over the phone, they will give you discount, you don't have to pay the full initial fee like others and give you 1-2 months free service after you join the club over the phone... and lalala... this is all the lies and scams that they tell you.. After you heard all those benefits compare to other fitness, you will think wow... you get good deal... but after you give them your credit card number... they will charge you the rip off initial fee and charge you for regular monthly fee ==>which is not in the agreement at the time you sign up over the phone... from the time you signed up for the club, they will never bother to send you any paper work or paper agreement to your house, not even an account number... and you found out that you're being cheated and ripped off by Gold's Gym.. You call for cancellation. And they will not process your request... they will keep telling you that they will call you again, so just leave them your number... but THEY WILL NEVER CALL YOU AGAIN! you have to call back again and again and finally they are not going to do anything... in my case, I have to call my credit card company to have them close my credit card number so they Gold's Gym will able to charge me anymore...and then I called Gold's Gym for request reimburse my money. But they said they don't have this kind of policy that refunds money to the customer. and I asked them if they still have the conversation between me and the presentative on the day that I signed up for the contract, they said verbal conversation is not honored and not recorded...I have to go with the agreement. but the funny part is the Gold's Gym guy call me over the phone and read the agreement to me, in the agreement he reads to me, he said he is only charge me $75 for initial fee, instead of paying $159 and by joining today he will give me 2 monthly free service. But in fact, this is all the lies that fitness representative tell you over the phone so that you can join. but once you join you found out that you're being cheated by this fitness company...! until now they didn't give my money back and I have closed my credit cared account to get out of this company. I promised to my self will never being scam or being cheat by joining this club again1! Ever in my life! And I want to let people out there know this matter so you will not become another victim like me.by mistake joined this fitness. still got so pissed off now. join bally fitness or 24 hours fitness is much better!

dishonest employees & poor customer service
My contract finally ends with golds in one week (Yeah!) I went to a gym to swim and asked them to cancel my membership (Since I had heard that you automatically default to continue it.) the employee was persistent that I had to renew my contract even though I politely refused multiple times. I asked if I could do month to month afterward and he said this was impossible and that I had to have a contract. I said I didn't want a contract and wouldn't be renewing. As I was leaving the desk to work out he informed me that my bill was delinquent. I had pre-paid for the two years up front and had not received any bills in two years and asked what I was delinquent on. He said there was a $15 maintenance fee on my account. He said that if I did not pay right then or renew my contract I was not allowed to use the facilities. I was in my gym clothes with no cc or anything and was pretty annoyed at this point so I left.
I called another location and was informed by the employee that you cannot cancel your membership (Even at the end of a contract) in a gym or over the phone and that I had to call the corporate offices to do so. He also informed me that because it wasn't 30 days prior to the end of my contract that I had defaulted to a month to month plan and would be billed for august if I canceled or not. He admitted that gold's is the sneakiest company he has ever worked for. He also let me know that I could have opted for a month to month membership at this point and that I was more than allowed to use the gym even without paying the $15 fee I had never heard of.
Also, do not waste time with the trainers. They are great at txting, working biceps, and showing up late or not showing up to work without canceling their appts. Gold's gym trainers are the biggest waste of money I have ever experienced, and I purchase a lot of stupid things.
I will have nothing to do with this company in the future aside from warning people to stay away.

Can someone tell me where I go to complain about a Gold's Gym Manager?
O.M. (we won't say her name ) the Austn Lakeline gym is one of the gyms that employ thieves, not only that they steal from members they hire young punk kids to steal out of the cash drawer, to split the money with the GM. As is he doesnt get enough stealing from his own staff when he takes the comssion they earned, while he sat on his ### clipping his toenails and texting all day! Oh wait he does move from his chair to work out twice (wouldn't want yall to think he is a total bum) Anyway I could go on for days...
Gold's gym managers are the biggest thieves! Anything their members leave behind they keep, and will lie to your face about it not beiing in "the lost and found". Jewelry and expensive shoes are among their favorite items to steal from you! Be warned!
trainer, trains client to cheat on husband
It all started four months after my mother passed away from Cancer, unexpectedly, at the age of 58. My wife and I purchased a Golds Gym trainer, Raven Nelson in December 2008, from the Cedar Park, TX location. In February of 2009 my wife text me and said she wanted to go to Miami Florida with her trainer, "as support". Never asked for me to come with her. I...

I signed up my wife and myself for Gold's gym membership in January 2017. I worked out there with my wife for several months, before my work forced me to transfer out of the country. So, on August 2017, I canceled my membership at the location where I joined in Long Beach, CA. I was given a pink slip confirming my cancellation in writing.
I find out 3 months later after I've left the country that I'm still being billed. I called them to sort this out. They said to fax a copy of the original pink slip because they couldn't talk to the manager. I did, it didn't work.
I called again after I noticed they were still charging a couple of months later. I got in touch with a girl who said she would cancel as of this phone call. She even sent me an e-mail asking for a forwarding address as to where to send the refund check.
Now, again they're still charging me, even after this. So now I've been forced to tell the bank to stop all charges from them. I'm not sure of my legal options from here, however. Can I take them to court? They owe me back nearly 10 months of fraudulent billing.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
WARNING! Gold's allows unauthorized pictures to be taken of clients and then distributed across their network. A picture of me working with my trainer was taken surreptitiously and then distributed by the Regional Fitness Manager with the caption "What's wrong with this picture?" (Supposedly my trainer wasn't positioned to catch me if I fell off the ball.)
I asked for an apology and removal of the pictures and received neither. I had to obtain an attorney to get a permanent injunction against use or distribution of the picture. Gold's insurance company reimbursed me for a portion of my legal expense, but still refuses to apologize. So be very careful! That person checking his cell phone may actually be an employee taking your picture.
I notified Gold's Gym of my inability to continue my membership due to a disability, notification included a signed letter from my doctor. I spoke to the manager and the billing manager and complied with their request for a note from the doctor and neither one of them told me that what I requested was denied. The last time I spoke to the manager he simply said okay and hung up. They sent my bill to collections. I can afford to pay them and would have if I had known that I was denied. They have unfair business practices and are non-responsible to their member’s request. I spoke to the manager again and he says he will do nothing about the bill being in collections or the damage it is doing to my credit.
Gold's Gym is a scam! I went in for my free "personal training session" and quickly realized it wasn't personal training. It was someone uneducated trying to make me feel insecure about myself and my abilities so that I would book more personal training sessions. I work out 4 to 5 times per week and consider myself in great shape. She measured my BMI and told me that I was at extreme risk of obesity and generated a bad computer image of what I "look" like. She said that she could get me down to a size 2 even though I told her I work out to be healthy, not for size. I left feelign so bad about myself I went and had a REAL BMI test done and I am in the complete HEALTHY range. My second complaint is that when I signed my contract with them I told them I didn't know how long I would be living in SLC and they agreed to sign a paper agreeing that I could cancel at any time for ANY reason. When I tried to, they said that they would never allow that and that I would have to prove it by going to the corporate office with the paper. Thankfully I saved the paper and took it with me to the corporate office. When I got there they didn't want to let me inside and I had to hold the paper up to the window for the woman to read it. Finally she let me in and cancelled it. I DO NOT RECOMMEND GOLD'S GYM TO ANYONE!
When someone asks me what is gym for, my simple answer would be a place where you can relax your mind and of course the atmosphere to be health around last and not the least is the cleanliness in the gym. I have joined this gym and have faced this problem I have seen that this gym does not pay much attention to the cleanliness, which is the most important part. On a couple occasions, I have seen people come in, work out on the elliptical machines and do not wipe down the equipment after they've used it and left it filthy/sweaty for the next person. Which I find not only a health code issue, which I feel is extremely wrong and it should be considered. I've seen people come in wearing high heeled shoes while working out on gym equipment, some people wearing work boots while working out... what happened to gym dress codes? Aren't gym members supposed to be dressed appropriately? I was very annoyed and told the instructor there to be strict enough in all this matter. He apologized and said this matter would be taken into consideration but it's been so many days I can not find any change in their system the same old people are working with the dirty boots and leaving dirt on the machine still the instructor is not bothered to tell them anything. I am very upset with this unhealthy atmosphere and therefore I am going to quit from this gym. Its an humble request never go to this unhealthy gym which has no norms and rules.
I joined Gold's Gym in February 2017 and was supposed to meet with a trainer the next week. I have a few medical issues, back surgery, hernia, and I didn't want to start without a trainer. The day before the meeting the trainer called and cancelled. I tried rescheduling numerous times, I even went in several times and was told there was no one available to meet with me. I finally gave up in April and went in and they wouldn't give me a form or anything to fill out to cancel my membership so i wrote out a letter cancelling it. In May, I was charged again on my bank account. I called and of course no one was able to speak with me so I went to my bank, they tried to call and they also called ABC Financial and no one at either place would talk to them. The bank then cancelled my account and reopened another one. They said they got a lot of complaints about Gold's Gym. I received a letter from ABC Financial dated July 24th 2017 and I called them again. They attempted (or so they said) to reach Gold's while I was on hold. They said they didn't get anywhere but I was still responsible for the payments that were due from June and if I didn't pay it would go on my credit report. I have filed complaints against ABC Financial and Gold's Gym. We'll see what happens next.
I recently returned home to Texas for the summer, after living in Utah to attend college. I wanted to cancel my membership, so I called the gym I had a membership at and asked to have my account cancelled. They said that they couldn't cancel it there, but could give me the phone number for corporate headquarters, where, theoretically, I could cancel my account. When speaking to an employee at the corporate office, I asked what steps I would have to take to cancel my account. I was informed that there had to be a reason to cancel (such as moving- apparently just wanting to cancel a contract is not reason enough), and that if the reason was relocation, that I had to provide some kind of proof of relocation. This could be in the form of a lease agreement, a utility bill, a check stubb, or forwarded mail. My mail is not being forwarded to me, I am living in my parents' house, and therefore my name is not on the utility bill, nor do we have a lease agreement. I am currently employed as a private nanny, and recieve private checks. Thus I have no check stubb. When I explained my situation to the employee, I was informed that there was no other way for me to prove my relocation (they don't accept bank statements). When I replied that I needed to cancel, or I would have to pay for the next two years until the contract expired, she listed off (again) what proof of relocation they accepted, and said there was nothing else I could do. I asked to be transferred to a supervisor. I was informed that she was in a meeting, and was likely to be so all day. I asked if there was anyone I could speak to, in person, who was in some kind of management position. The answer was no, they were all in meetings. When I asked if they would be available tomorrow, and at what time, the answer was no. They offered to transfer me to the voicemail of the supervisor, although when she will listen to it and respond is beyond me, since apparently she is in meetings during all business hours. I left the message, but I would be shocked if my call were returned. Needless to say, the customer service was terrible, their business practices were poor and unethical, and I would never recommend them.
Gold's gym was bought out by Just fitness 4 u Aug. 1st. JF4U offers their members a $10 and a $17.50 month to month only membership. What about us old gold members who pay way more than that? Are we now going to be only charged the $17.50 or $10? Probably not. I have sent 5 emails to 5 different addresses I can find online for JF4u. No one has responded.
During their transition of names, Gold's never let any of us know what was going on. All the people could say at the counter was I dont know. All of a sudden they were remodeling the place. No more classes etc. No one knew anything? GMAB. Every member I have spoke to says they had no idea what was going on, all they heard were people getting memberships for $10. Which of course were making people mad because they were paying more, including myself. GOLDS should have notified every one of their members and let them know of this transition and what was going on. They should have posted it everywhere in the GYM. There is no way this place can still charge the rest of us old gold memebers our higher fee and charge only $10 for new members to JF4u. They should change what we pay or let us cancel.
I acquired a membership with Gold's that I had to give up when I was moving from Edmonton to Ottawa. I was never able to use this membership during the time that I lived in Edmonton as the start date for the gym opening was delayed. They told me, when I was considering signing up that it would be open in late September. Once I was signed up, it was a different story. Given that there is no location for this Company in Ottawa, I was required to either pay $200 to terminate or transfer to another person. I made the arrangements to transfer to another person, and this Company told me that everything was a go. I find that I am still being billed for my membership four months later. The location I have my membership with, as well as the regional office in Calgary, have both refused to return my calls. I will never consider another membership with Gold's. I have paid almost two hundred dollars thus far and was never able to use the membership. My suggestion to anyone considering a membership with them is to check the Better Business Bureau complaint history, and review web postings about the company. I think you will find strikingly similar anecdotes.
I signed a 1 year contract with Gold's Gym. A couple of weeks before my membership was due to expire, I sent an email, asking if there was anything that I needed to do in order to ensure that my membership was complete and I would not be charged any further membership fees. No response.
I emailed again a few days later. No response.
I phoned the location directly. No answer.
I emailed again. No response.
I phoned again. No response.
At this point, I was terribly frustrated and so I email the head office for Canada. NO RESPONSE.
So I phoned the head office for Canada. They told me that they couldn't help me because the location that I was a member at was privately owned so everything had to be handled there.
Meanwhile, I have been charged TWICE for membership dues in a time span of THREE DAYS. AFTER my membership was expired.
I finally reached my location by phone and they told me that I had to send a registered letter with 31 days notice of the termination of my membership. I asked them to waive the 31 day period because I had been trying to get in contact with someone for over a month and she just said no. No discussion or apologies about it.
I will never recommend Gold's Gym to anyone I know.
Golds Gym is despicable I am outraged that I canceled in person with paperwork 3 months ago and still they are charging my bank account. I have tried to get in contact with managers at the gym to be told they are not here or in a meeting someone will call me back. No one calls back call again and get the same, gave me headquarters phone number to be on hold until HELL freezers over never got through. Talked to a manager yesterday said I would be credited back to my back account still nothing. I called today another manager to tell me it will be sent to me within 10 to 14 business days. This place should have legal action taken upon them and I am certainly prepared to do so . I have seen their poor scores on how they treat their customers and it is appalling something hasn't been done by now, how disgraceful and shameful this Company should be !

poor hygiene
About 12 years ago when I first stepped into the Gold's Gym Club in San Diego - CA located in the vicinity of SDSU, where I was studying, I was fascinated. That gym was huge, sparkling, and gorgeous. I have recently moved from Aurora IL (a suburb of Chicago) to San Antonio TX.
I got a membership at the Gold's Gym #0782, located at 1602 Babcock Rd San Antonio, TX 78229. The equipment is OK, although it is never cleaned. When I entered the women showers room I felt like throwing up. The showers are not just dirty, they are FILTHY !
During the 10 days I've been attending the Gold's Gym at Babcock, I have seen the same trash, in the same position, everywhere on the women showers floor. All the shower drains are clogged with accumulated hair and trash. There is stagnating water on the floor. I felt I had joined the third world, ... maybe the fourth one ! I am a sport woman. I regularly attend a gym to keep healthy, NOT TO CATCH A DISEASE!
I am going to report these extremely poor hygienic conditions to the Better Business Bureau. They probably can advice on contacting the Bexar County building inspector for an evaluation of this club. It's a real shame that some clubs in San Antonio are so poorly maintained so as to spoil the reputation of the Gold's Gym that used to be the top of the line!

Gold's practices the worst industrial hygeine I have ever witnessed anywhere.
Their business ethics are horrid as well...
scam
They had a drawing for a year's membership, not a chance to win a year's membership. I slipped in a tab with my # on it & it was drawn, but they didn't tell me I already had to be a member to win the free year (until I went to one of their gyms).
Once there that was it. They pressured and talked me into signing a 2-year contract.
I tried to tell them I didn't have a job & was tryin to move, but they kept waving all their goods in front me then that was it, they didn't even care.
Then I had to stay with someone 30 miles away from the area I was staying in and get a utility bill so I could break the contract and stop the withdrawls.
Be forewarned friend. Stay away form these power-hungry leeches that call themselves GOLD'S GYM. They WILL take you for EVERYTHING they can. They didn't even talk about no termination procedures or enything-THAT'S WHAT GOT ME! There wasn't even anything about suspending one's contract. Steer clear of gold's gym.

If you don't want headaches and money drained from your account, stear clear of Golds Gym. Their contract is a scam in every possible way, so that they make it hard for you to cancel, even if you have a medical condition. Not to mention otherwise. Just DON'T GO TO THIS GYM EVER. Golds Gym equals scam. Everyone I know had a complaint about them sooner or later and it was related to the money they charge you even after you cancel a contract following their mischievous contract.
cant cancel, sucky gym
I completely regretted getting a pass here ever. Right after i got it, i realized how bad the gyms are. They are big, but the equipment sucks! The numbers are rubbed off the weights because they are so old and you can't tell how much the weights are. Also, lots of machines are just plain broken. All this, even when they sneak charges from you of $30/year to upkeep the gym. What is this money for? They are obviously not keeping the gym in good condition.
So, they gym sucks bad and they sneak charges at you. But the worst part is, when my membership was about to run out, I told the people at the front desk at least 5 times that i did not want to renew, I wanted to cancel. But of course, the next month, when i hadn't been going to the gym because it was cancelled, I got charged! I went in irate, and the b**** that helped me cancelled my pass, but she said i wouldn't be able to work out for the next month even though i had just paid for it.

scam
I joined this Gym 3 months ago. It is right in the shopping center of my work so it was easy and convenient for me to go. I went to go there about a month ago and they were just closed. The doors were locked and the place as empty. I tried to call the number on my receipt that I received when I signed up but when I tried the phone was shut down. I called...

People, I was a troubled member of golds gym. I have seen 1000's of consumer being troubled by their hidden contract. They dont mention this at point of sale. Then when you want to quit, then they say you will be billed for entire year. Also, if you want to cancel you have to submit either a proof of moving to a city which has no GG location within 25...

I originally joined a program, "The Biggest Loser.' However, the trainer was either too busy to meet with me or degrading when I didn't do everything that she wanted me to do. I was in need of knee replacement, and when could no longer participate at all (they made me worse!), I sent a letter of cancelling out of the program and stated that my membership card had been destroyed. National Fitness continued to bill my credit card, and refuses to cancel, without a certified doctor's statement of disability. National Fitness repeatedly told me they were only the billing company, but then they demanded my personal health information in order to cancel the contract. They are a scam. Once in, you cannot get out of their billing system! The local Gold's Gym refuses to talk to me about this problem. I have stopped payments through my credit card, yet they keep sending me emails reminding that my payments are overdue. I am reporting them to every consumer protection advocate agency I can find. Also, I am sending a letter for my file for credit reporting. I don't want a Mickey Mouse outfit like this ruining my good credit scores. NIGHTMARE!
I saw this right away as I read through paperwork and asked them questions, and this was a huge sign for me. After letting them know I couldn't pay it, they were so desperate to keep me in that they waived the fee--something a friend says happened to them, too. I took the bait, though in hindsight I shouldn't have. They've charged me 20 instead of 10 twice already, and I just started getting charged in December. I got both times fixed, but...it's not worth all that trouble for a gym.
yes hes right 9.99 is a scam, , ones you go to the gym to sign up, they offer you (the gold member ship) which has nothing to do with the special and cost 4 times more, then i said NO i just want the special well they said that does not include anything, and i wanted to add some stuff and avoid some restrictions, i felt bad for the pretty girl koz she spent like an hour explaining everything to me, so they ended up screwing me when i signed up for 39.99-- well i went there for the 9.99 special...its ok i love the gym more than anything...
Wow talk about defensive, and bad example . When you go to buy a car you expect some fees but not 199.00 a month going to 600.00 a month. And it is a scam if you advertise 10.00 you expect maybe 12 to 14 extra, not 150.00 . It's a gimmick to sign people up. Iv been to the Gym before and yes they add fee's to everything and try to get you in a contract. Don't kill the messenger ( remember free country) it's one thing to disagree it's another to turn Troll ( someone who uses foul language and insults ) But brave guys insulting women, wow you must be so scary in real life, try to show some respect .
These people are dumb. I bet you are the same girls out in the club with your padded bras and then expect when a man shows interest to accept your mosquito bites... Nothing is free accept your virginity clearly...
Golds don't want your kind anyways. Why font you join planet fitness...cheap ### whiner!
Obviously some ### Gold Gym dealer took a comment here .Sheri you are right, this people at GoldsGym a most ### "car dealer" brained greedy trained people. But who fault is it? All of you. I am not going there, because I will not pay any extra fee just to able to pay a monthly fee! If everybody would do a same thing, and complain about it, they would cancel it. The first time when I signed up in a Gym and they asked for $100 sign up fee, I was laughing, and ask are you serious ? The guy told me ok, you didn't need to pay, but nobody ever complain, so we charge for it... Screw them! 24 h fitness is $350 for 2 years PREPAID, no fees, from Costco...
Hey [censored]s, When they advertise a new car at $199.00 a month do you go there expecting to just pay that or is there something down? This is no different. If you all were not cheap lazy ### and pay just 9.99 more then there wouldnt be upfront fees! shows your not serious about health. Oh and [censored] 2, running wont keep you in good health alone. Stop watching Opra people and quit finding excuses not to better yourself. ### about $10 vs $19.99... REALLY? [censored]es
It's spelled "whiner". Way to be professional, "Gold's Gym". I was doing research to see which gym to join. Obviously not yours. No worries, I don't have major weight to lose- I ran a marathon this year. Peace.
Sherri Town is a winer, she knows she can't get a membership to Gold's Gym for $10 dollars without paying an enrollment fee, etc. Come on Sherri, Gold's didn't waste you time you wasted your own time. If you would have invested the money in to you losing weight with the same effort you put forth in your crusade to smear Gold's you would lose the major weight you have
