We had a set of four Tripletread Goodyear's on our 2003 Honda Odyssey and it has a terrible problem of the steering wheel shaking violently from side to side. This is not a pull to the right or to the left, it is a shaking of the steering wheel from side to side. Of course Honda's comment was it is the tires, and Goodyear says it is the van. (DUH!) I knew that was coming. If it were the tires it would do it all the time, this happens intermittently, may happen several times on a short trip, other times you may drive several days without a problem.
If the van did it before then it is van--if after you put the tires on, it is the tires, some vehicles do not "agree" with certain types of tires.
I have a 2003 navigator on which I had 4 new triple treads mounted.
At highway speeds I also get a harsh vibration. Not all the time, but most of the time. Have not investigated further yet.
I also have a 2003 navigator with these tires.
I noticed the same harsh steering wheel shake at speeds over 80 km.
Had the wheels rebalanced and still the same problem.
Will take it to the mechanic. He thinks it might be a worn bushing or front suspension part. Could also be the calipers.
My mahindra scorpio turbo 2.6 slx has the same problem. I have invested lots of money changing these tubeless tires. Has anyone found a solution for this problem?
Cheers
Suri
We have had the same issue with our Honda CR-V. As soon as we hit about 65-70 mph on the highway the wheel shakes. Tires rebalanced and 3 tires replaced by tire store and still have the problem. The tire store is being good and we will get an alternate brand of tires to correct the issue. Pretty frustrating for tires that were $800 installed and top rated by Consumer Reports.
We have a 2003 Odyssey with the exact same problem. We had the tires for a year when we started getting some pretty heavy steering wheel shaking at 40 MPH and up. At highway speeds it was less noticible. We had the tires rebalanced twice. We had it in to the dealership and they blame the tires ... suggested there may be some tread separation. Will be taking the van into the tire store this week to get things checked out and do a front-to-back tire rotation to see if this helps.
guys try this put the front end up on jacks make sure the tires are off the ground, then get in the car and have someone put it in gear and depress the pedal until you get to the speed your having the shaking with then look at the front tires while the wheels are running at this speed if you don't see the tire rotate perfitly that means none whatsoever wobble then it is the tire, take it to the tire shop and have them do it to prove it, also try rotating the back with the front also, and see if this stops or alters it in some way.
I bought a set of these tires for my Ford Contour. They were BY FAR some of the best tires I ever bought out numerous name brands and price ranges.
I have used these tires on three different cars (Ford Focus, Nissan Pathfinder, Suzuki SX4) and all were a HUGE improvement over other tires on the same cars. Great traction in snow and slush (I live in the Colorado Rockies) and no vibration whatsoever. Just my $.02.
I have a 2000 Odyssey that vibrates between 55 and 70 mph. Slight vibration in the steering wheel, but feel carwide. Had sears rebalance the tires for the 4th time, align it, spin the rims, and still the same problem. Dealer says tire belts and Sears says car problem. I am seeing a trend here. Honda Odysseys don't like Goodyear Triple Tread tires, period.
I am back to Sears to have the tires replaced, hopefully. Thanks alot Consumer Reports... why don't you test the tires on an Odyssey?
It appears to me that everyone that is having problems are people that are putting these tires on heavy vehicles. Not every tire is good on an SUV. I personally hate SUV's and would never drive one. These tires are phenomenal on lighter vehicles such as standard sedans.
well...I know that most of these cars are pretty much built on a truck frame. I have a Nissan Titan and I love these tires. No problems, great control and traction. Works great in Tampa, Florida and back home in Greenville, South Carolina. Maybe it's not meant for SUV's and Vans. The guy at the Goodyear shop recommended these tires because I have a truck. And like all trucks, they are light in the back. (unloaded)
Driving on concrete is the only time I had any loud noise, but how often do people drive on concrete?
Replaced the OEM Continentals on My MB C240, with Goodyear Assurance Tripletreds from Sears. What a mistake. After 11000 miles vibrations began. Numerous rebalances at sears and dealership - just keeps getting worse. The car can not be driven over 55mph. Forget trying to get 80, 000 miles on this garbage. Thre tread may last by your car wont. Will never buy a Goodyear tire again.
I actually have only 40000 miles, one balding tire and other not so great either. I bought these tires two and two... at about $325 total each purchase... as my previous tires still had reasonable tread and these were more expensives than I had budgeted. My 03 ford focus ZTW came with pirrelli tires... not so hot in michigan winter... the BF Goodrich... well the birds were flying faster than I could safely travel on eway (I would have been a hazard)... so finally found these tires... good winter handling, felt safe, yes mild vibration 70 ish + mph... but okay as 70 is speed limit so I could live with that for the assurance of feeling safe on winter roads. Okay, ... here's the BUT... tired have been rotated alignments etc ... I am diligent that care stay maintained as it will become my kids car at college... (grad with good grades ...he can have something cooler :). Anyway...the two tires that were purchased together are a mess... the other two show excessive wear for the miles...well BELLE TIRE... no longer carries the tires... and I can't get my tread credit from them. ANYONE ELSE HAVING TROUBLES getting compensation?
I have an 05 Toyota Avalon. I have put 45, 000 miles on these tires. I've nothing but problems. In the beginning, they were great in the rain. Now the steering wheel jerks violently when I hit a puddle at over 50 mph. It feels like the belts have become unattatched because it wanders in the lane. It follows the road design jerking the wheel either hard to the left or to the right. I have had the tires rotated every 5000 miles religiously. I have had them rebalanced at least 5 times and have had 4 alignments. I went as far as to have them remounted on the other wheels since they are directional tires. That helped the awlful road noise a bit. It sounded like a jeep. During the snow, I had no traction at all and couldn't go over 15 mph without feeling like I was going to spin out. I'm going back to Michelins
Have had triple treads on my 2000 Odyssey for the last 70, 000 miles. Have found them to be a fine tire in all kinds of conditions. Am getting ready to put another set on - - have had no shaking problem as described.
NOTHING BUT PROBLEMS! Ive had vibrations and severe pulling to the right after numerous rotations and balances. These are the worst tires Ive ever had. Brakes, rotors, alignment done and 3 separate front end inspections. Its not the car. STAY AWAY! Assurance... to have problems.
have had theses tires on an 03 focus se and they are great. agree about an earlier post regarding the car size. i do believe that is what is going on or some of you might have cars with excessive weight. the design of the tire would lend itself to vibration and noise due to the tires laying a little flatter, with more of the tire on the roadway. yes, surely they are all the same pattern, but that same pattern on a wider tire would lead to noise whereas on the narrower tire (found in small sedans), no noise. go outside and look at the tire pattern, these things are made to sit at "the top", not flat. the tires rip through rain, slush and snow in new england with no noise or handling issues. i will note that towards the end of my last set of these tires they were a little rattly at 85+, but i'd say about 5% drivers hang out up there and usually late at night or in the boonies, so you'll likely hear them.
2011-04-14 I just had 4 goodyear tripletread tires on my 2007 Odysey. The vibration occurs at highway speeds intermittently. I had the tires balanced and rebalanced until we finally went with a different tire. I should have listened to the online blogs, but I thought I might have a different experience than those here. Now I am among the select group of people with a bad experience with goodyear tripletread tires. I have heard goodyear is re-engineering the tripletread tire line. I believe the issues stated here may be the problems they are trying to address.
I am currently in the midst of trying to correct the same vibration problem as people are discussing here. Between 55-70 mph. Above 70 it starts to clear up. Vibration is always there at those speeds although sometimes it is very bad and sometimes slight. Maybe temperature related? (It's that time of year when the temps vary by 20 degrees daily.) I have had 3 sets of these, 2 on a 1998 Subaru Outback and 1 on a 1998 Subaru Legacy Wagon. Have not had problems with any of them. This set is a different issue. They have been a problem since mounted. I still have less than 300 miles on them and am headed to Goodyear today to see what they find. I'll try to keep you updated. The car that I am having trouble with is a 2002 Subaru Outback. You'd think that if it worked fine on other Subaru's that it must be this particular set that is giving me trouble. Time will tell. Hopefully Goodyear will stand behind them if this trouble persists beyond the 30 day period. We'll see. Bummer is that I used promotional discounts on Goodyear CC and employee coupons to purchase these. Hopefully I don't get screwed out of the discounts if they switch tires on me.
Hi everyone. I wanted to update you on my post about out of balance Goodyear Tripletred's. I saw the dealer last night and although it took them a while to get things wrapped up, the manager came out and stated that "I don't know what they were doing a couple of weeks ago when you purchased these, but all four tires were balanced incorrectly and had to be rebalanced." They test drove it twice during the time they had it. I drove it home and all seems fine. It's smooth all the way to 85mph which is as fast as I plan on ever going. Drove it again today and things are still fine. Hopefully this was the only problem and I won't be seeing them again except for regular rotations. This is my 4th set of these tires. I've had 3 different sizes of them. I love them in all weather. I drive no matter what, downpours, 16 inches of snow, etc. and they have been great in all conditions. Hopefully this is the end of this story. Good luck.
I bought 4 of the tripple tread good year tire for my pontiac montan van, they perform great no vibrating problem, recommend as excellent buy.
I had a set of these on an '03 Accord EX. I had to have one GY tripletread replaced immediately under warranty due to a horrendous vibration problem, but had another that was vibrating lightly enough that I thought it was a balancing problem and you didn't notice it much when it was rotated to the rear, but after it was rotated back to the front the vibration was bad again. I thought a little wear would help, so I left it on the back for a while, but finally before a long trip I isolated the bad tire by rotating the spare in until the vibration was gone, then took the single tire to an independent to see if he could balance it and he informed me the tread was separated. Took the set back to Sam's and had them replaced. These tires have, or at least had, a problem in manufacturing. My new set of tires made me like my car again.
