Wow! I am abou to receive my MBA and was talking to a very persuasive enrollment counselor about possibly doing my DBA with GCU. It is truly horrifying to read this. I feel for all of you and wish everyone the best. I think I read enough to try to go somewhere else. I am so sorry that this happened to you guys.

Have been looking for info on class actions against GCU. Found this website: GrandCanyonUniversityLawsuits.com

There is info about two class actions on there. Can even read some of the legal documents. I'm going to contact the attorneys listed on those cases to see if I can join/start a new one.

I was also informed that my degree was changed and I have a limited time to complete my degree. I have finished the classes and was looking for a practicum with very little help from the university. I tried all forms of avenues to find a practicum. Now my financial aid is past and I will have to re-up for everything. They told me after the fact that it would be difficult for "me" to find practicum with the hours I have working. Well I have to work to pay the bills, that is why I did not go to a traditional college to continue my master's in counseling. I took online classes to they could co-inside with working. Now that they have taken all the money I borrowed for a degree I cannot get without practicum I can not procure they would have me take another set of classes to get a different master's degree that does not need practicum work. What... And no the classes for counseling do not transfer to any other degree because graduate is streamlined to the degree the student is seeking and only the two credit bull S*it class counts towards the other classes. Oh did I mention they figured it out for me and I will have just enough financial aid to cover the new degree and not have to worry about having to pay for the classes out of pocket before I graduate with this other degree. What kind of crap is that. Oh did I mention the person who put all this together for me is no longer available and the new counselor wants to make sure I do not go over my borrowing cap and would like me just to borrow enough to pay for the classes and of course their on line exclusive books designed for each class provided electronically for your convenience. I see it now, at the end of the next round of classes they will find another way to keep me hanging on till they collect every scrap of money I could possibly borrow before kicking me to the curb. God Bless You...
So is there really a law suite or is this just the University trying to get a list of the disgruntled GCU Students so they can find loopholes for when the crap really hits the fan...

I have been looking into suing GCU. I got my masters degree there. After graduating, I found out from our behavioral board that GCU is deficient in their curriculum and now I cannot get my license in the field and all that money has been wasted. It

I got my degree in Bachelor’s degree this year. Thankfully I didn’t sign up to the MSW program, because I always wanted it to become a social worker. So I did my investigation, GCU licensure does not meet the NYS requirements. I am glad I didn’t go back to GCU to do my masters degree. NYC has very strict requirements when it comes to accredited schools and programs. It was my fault that I didn’t get the chance to do my research. I got accepted to CUNY Lehman college back in 2020, so my sis coworker told my sis that tell your sister Kenya that not to go to a CUNY school because I am not going to get the same support like GCU. That’s why I am trying not to rush myself on getting my MSW, these for-profit colleges runs like a business, of course the SSC is not going to tell us, they just wanna get you in the door. Please do me a favor just go to a community college to get a real education. Never rush into anything.

I'm sure you are aware of the C.A. Lawsuit filed against GCU for fraud. Here is what was done to me presently: I am an Emergency Management (EM) major. Started in Late 2016. Jan of 2017 the University did an upgrade/improvement to the course along with its own capstone project. I am now taking my capstone and realize it is a is Business Management capstone and having nothing to do with EM. At no time was I informed of the change nor given the opportunity to upgrade into the improved course. I am falsely told the change took place in 2019. In fact, if one researches it was done in January of 2017. Plenty of time to inform every one of the change. The University sat on the information with zero intentions of informing students. I demanded a change to the new curriculum since it was specific to my career path. The current version I am is a hybrid of two unrelated programs; Business/Program Management and Emergency Management. Maricopa County Emergency Management does not recognize GCU’s EM program and has never had even as working relationship with GCU and its EM program. They do however recognize ASU's program. The Capstone course for EM does not have a scheduled class until May of 2020. There was ample time for GCU to adjust my schedule without disturbing my graduation timetable (Dec-2019). Of course, now the problem is a catastrophe. I am now forced to take the business/project management capstone even though technically I am not prepared for it especially since my major is EM. Is this fraud? Maybe. Definitely complete negligence... This goes on top of the fact that the University did nothing to discipline a professor who repeatedly harassed me about my physical disability accommodations (I'm an on-line student). I was constantly stressed every week of the class. I eventually made a grave error submitting an assignment trying to satisfy the professor because he made me nervous about failing. I lost 200 points and went from an -A to a C+. Nothing was done to the professor at all. Their complaint system is so complex that neither the disability department nor my adviser understood how it functioned. The Title IX Department was no help at all. I do not recommend anyone attend this University.

I am one of those students at GCU in 2015 also had to do those continuation classes. I was charged fees which I thought was coming out of my student loans, but the bursa's office stated that I owed money after the semester was over and was holding my degree. They had hidden fees and when asked what the fees where for they said " there are a lot of things that goes on in the background that cost ". It was either let them keep my degree or pay.

I enrolled at GCU for so called bridge program to transition from business degree to Accounting degree. Online class setting. I took 3 classes there and I realized this was nothing but a fraud. I practically had to study on my own, very little responses from their faculties. I had to watch YouTube videos of faculties from other universities to get some understanding about the classes I took and to do my homework.

It was the most frustrating, pathetic, and ridiculous thing I have ever experienced in trying to get a degree. I am now over $10K in debt. I bailed out of it because chatting with your classmates and not getting full lectures of what you need to learn in accounting classes wasn't what I had in mind when I enrolled in this university.

You can't call this an online program if you literally had to study on your own, read ebook and chatting with other students and your faculty about a certain topic.

They don't provide recorded lectures and reaching out to faculties for questions was like pulling tooth. There was no live interactions to allow you to ask questions.

3 undergraduate classes for $10K? It was plain ridiculous for something so worthless. I learned absolutely nothing.

This university needs to be shutdown for calling itself non profit which obviously not, for scamming people into thinking they will get the knowledge they need to be successful but in reality you were practically had to teach yourself. Accounting classes need to be taught with love or recorded lectures, not by chat and read ebook.

Yes GCU is nothing but a huge SCAM. GCU is a for profit school, for profit colleges runs like a business. It’s very important on not rush into anything, if anyone is pressuring you to sign some paperwork’s don’t do it, because GCU just want to robbed the S**t out you especially when it comes to Financial Aid, and idk 🤷‍♀️ why is these for profit colleges are open to the public.

I compare my grants and scholarships with the charges I was explained and it does not coordinate I got my proof all on email.

I was told all classes were 7 weeks! I found out all by myself that upper classes are 8 weeks long prolonging my graduation date and fees.

just have to share my experience dealing with GCU lately. Not everyone may have a bad experience but mine hasn’t been the greatest. **Bear with me, long post ahead **

Two classes ago I had a collaborative project that me and only two others (out of a group of 6) were proactive. It was a PowerPoint presentation which some of you know I love doing and find that im really good at doing them. I did my portion, submitted it. Another member who was the self appointed leader instructed me to “scale back” on my content which I wasn’t comfortable doing but did anyways. This leader also was rude and demanding we follow her time zone expectations (she was on the east coast). Our final project was submitted and what was submitted was not my work, it had been altered. The project received a failing grade which ultimately lowered my grade to a non passing score and left me with a 2,250$ balance on my school account. I immediately emailed the professor who never returned my email. I reached out to my advisor who said I can appeal and sent me the appeal form in a format I had never recognized before. I filled it out and submitted the appeal and was DENIED because the format that was sent to me wasn’t correct. I expressed to my advisor this and she immediately began to argue with me about the format she sent insisting I had altered it. I sent her a screen record of what she sent me to prove I obviously would not and did not altar the stupid [censored]ing format like she so quickly accused me of doing. Nothing else ever came of it and my numerous calls and emails have gone ignored.

This is where it gets better. Speaking to my ever so helpful advisor at UA, she tells me how the current stats course I am in will not transfer over. Me already struggling in this course and shelling out yet ANOTHER 2,250$ for it, I emailed my advisor at GCU to alert her that I will be transferring to UA Jan of 2023. I also called the student service supervisor to launch a complaint about how ol girl handled my appeal and what can I do to withdraw from my current stats course. I never received a call from anyone in a supervisor level but from my advisor who informed me that I will be stuck with yet another 2,250$ balance if I drop the course. She told me I could have dropped the stats course after 1 week. I had just started week 2 yesterday so I will now be penalized an additional 2,250$ on top of the 2,250$ from my denied appeal totaling 4,500$ that needs to be paid off in 6 months before it gets sent to collections.

So here I am, literally stuck in a course that will really hurt my GPA, and won’t even transfer over to the U of A because I’m one day late out of the 1 week window of dropping the course. I said to my GCU advisor how wrong this was and how they really know how to rob people of their money, she hung up on me.

THIS SHOULD BE ILLEGAL. I just want to cry.

I’m an online student at GCU, and I can’t wait until I finished GCU. And I’ve should’ve had done my research before applying to this college. When I first started this college, I was doing everything on my own. YouTube and Google was my teachers, since my instructors aren’t helpful or supportive. When I always message my instructors if I don’t understand the assignments, it takes weeks for the instructors to reply back to me. Also I had different student service counselors as well. Some of the SSC were helpful in between, and some of the SSC were completely nasty. And this is the response I would always get from my SSC “I’m sorry to hear that” “I can’t help you” “I don’t know what else to tell you”. When I discussed about “$payment cash” about my diploma and transcripts, my SSC would listen especially if it’s about money. This school is a complete scam. Also, when I watch videos on YouTube about the students that attend GCU that stay on campus or attend the college in person, the school looks more like a party college, then students getting a real education. I wouldn’t recommend this college to anyone.

I took 3 classes for my Bridge program towards my Masters degree. I took online classes. What a joke it was.

All I got is an ebook posted in Student Dashboard. Responded to instructor's post/question. Responded to your classmates' responses.

No lecture was provided. I had to watch YouTube video of professors from other universities teaching a particular subject in order to do my homework.

Ask questions to your instructor only led to me to procrastinate every time I have to do my homework. That is because I wouldn't get an answer after 3-5 days later or the day when the assignment was due.

Very frustrating. How do they get away with not teaching students anything. I attended college before, online and in person. There were always lectures involved, not just student ask questions as needed. I practically paid lots of money and expected to learn from what I need to know in accounting so when I graduate, I have the foundation to work in this field.

I withdrew from GCu after 3 classes. I realized they would just set me to fail and put me in tremendous amount of debts. 3 classes costed me $10K and I absolutely learned nothing from this school.

For me to have to listened to lectures from YouTube conducted by professors from other schools in order to complete my assignment was really uncalled for.

Their student Dashboard was so outdated.

Again...imagine learning accounting without lectures...how is this supposed to prepare me to work in this field?

Asking questions to your instructors can only be done via email that if I was lucky, would get answered in 3 days.

It was nothing but a frustrating, horrible, costly experience that I never wanted others to have to experience it.

Worse school ever. I don't understand why this school is allowed to stay in business. Charging students so much for essentially providing barely anything. I should have withdrawn from it after 1 class. Now I have to pay back $10K for basically nothing.

Hello everyone, my name is Kenya. I completed my Bachelor degree in 2023. The SSC would tell me that “ i don’t know what else to tell you” oh I am so sorry to here that”. This is what I would get from my SSC. I noticed that they toked a lot of my financial aide, I was pissed 😠 about that. I found out about this, and I am going through so much in debt and my debt is 26K. And where the heck I am going to get that from? I been looking for work, and I am on a fixed income. I called the loan people and they told me that I have to pay all that money back, like people just don’t make any sense. Like are you serious? Where I am going to get that from? And I am on a fix income, the SSC doesn’t care about my situation because you know why? Because GCU college runs like a business SCAM they don’t care your education. All they cared about is those dollar 💵 signs, I paid 150.00 dollars for a diploma, I told my SSC that why do I have to pay for a diploma for? Especially if I worked hard for it, you know what the SSC told me that it’s their policy, I told my SSC that when I attended Boricua College in the Bronx, I got my Associates of Arts and I never had it to pay for no diploma, I got a lot of scholarships at boricua college and not once I had that issues. It’s my fault that I didn’t do my investigation on this College, so now I know now it’s very important to read your stuff carefully, don’t rush yourself into going back to college if you don’t know the facts. If the school is trying to pressure you to signed some forms, RUN AS SOON AS YOU CAN, they just wanna get you in the door. These for-profit colleges runs like a business, and they like to pray on individuals such as low income families, and the veterans, because they get some type of money 💰, I really wanna go to Arizona to see what’s going on at GCU, I wanna see for myself and observe on what’s going on in that school. I wanted it to do my MSW at GCU, because I like to keep myself busy, and then it has me thinking on not to rush myself to go back to college where I am in student loan debt. I did some investigation about The NYS licensure, and when I did my research, it popped up and it says no results about GCU meeting the NYS licensure, I am so blessed that I didn’t register for the MSW degree at GCU. Because god forbid that the degree is unaccredited, and I don’t waste anytime on anyone. This is why I am not rushing on going back to school, because if you rush yourself you not going to get a great impact on the school. And plus they also told me that if I was to go to a CUNY college I wouldn’t get the same support like GCU, my sis told me that of course they going to tell me that, because so they can take money from you. My sis had dropped out of GCU, she had a meeting with her instructor, let me tell you that her instructor toked points off my sisters assignments just because she’s black, Man I got so pissed about that, I told her to dropped out that school, you don’t need that energy around you, go to a school where they are going to help with your needs. Make sure that your credits will transfer to the college you wanna go to, because colleges out in NYC is very strict, especially when it comes to accredited college and program, and even jobs would look into if your degree is from a accredited university, they are big with that. And GCU would always ignore all of my questions, they not trying to hear about no education, just talking about money, and I thought GCU is supposed to be a Christian university. Smh people can say anything.

Back in 2020, I got accepted to CUNY Lehman college for BSW major, and my sis got accepted into Hunter college, we were both so-happy, because it’s hard to get into CUNY colleges, especially SUNY colleges. See your not going to see those adds about SUNY and CUNY, because it’s a legitimate college and they been around for years. We both had some college credits from Boricua college and that was only a full time college, we both had it to transfer to another college to just be PT student, the real reasons why they toked are credits from Boricua college, it’s because its an accredited institution and program. You must read your stuff carefully especially when it comes to colleges, don’t jump into anything always ask questions from a close friend or family member. Do yourself a favor, go to a community college when it’s more affordable especially with people living in low income housing, and being on a fix income without being in debt. And just find schools in your local area, just stay away from those for-profit colleges, because it runs like a business and always talking about money.

It isn't just a matter of adding unnecessary classes. Financial aid disbursements are always weeks to even a month late. This is particularly stressful for students at the Graduate level. Those individuals cannot afford the distraction of trying to track down loan monies needed for essential expenses as they are working and are in school. This lawsuit is a welcome development as there must be accountability for the stress they have placed on students.
