Hi everyone, I just started 06/27/22 and my aid was applied on the 30th, I had a balance of (1624.00) and on 07/07/22 the stipend was issued. Its 07/08/22 and I was pretty hopeful until I read hundreds of these post which I mentioned to my student services lady and she shrugged it off like I was talking about conspiracy theories.. I'm going to try and...

Grand Canyon University [GCU] Tuition and incorrect collections

Grand Canyon University (GCU) miscalculated fees and incorrectly billed me for tuition in 2017 and 2018. The University did not credit my account for $592.72 from a federal loan disbursement I was awarded in February 2018. The University (GCU) then filed collections against me in 2018 in the amount of $ 1,750.14 to the national credit bureaus for charges that I do not owe. SEE EXHIBIT (A-2) There is an amount of $ 594.72 from my financial aid disbursement in 2018 that is unaccounted for by Grand Canyon University. I did not receive the $594.72 nor was it credited to my student account. SEE EXHIBITS (B-1, B-3, B-4). FEDERAL LOAN DISBURSEMENT 2018 As Shown in EXHIBITS (B-3, B-4), My Actual Loan disbursement was in 2018 $3,821.00, with an origination fee of $40.[protected] LOAN DISBURSEMENT $ 3,821.[protected] LESS: ORIGINATION FEE (-) $ (40.[protected] NET AMOUNT = $ 3,781.[protected] LESS: STIPEND CHECK (-) $ (3,186.28) TOTAL = $ 594.72

There is still the amount of the $594.72 from my federal loan disbursement that is still unaccounted for.

I still don't understand where the $1750.14 charges come from? SEE EXHIBIT (A-2).

The University (GCU) filing collections against me for incorrect charges has damaged my credit for the past 3 years and caused me irreparable harm. The University (GCU) has unfairly billed me for tuition and fees. Grand Canyon University charged me for 2 classes even though I didn't attend 95% of the class, dropped the courses. The amount of $4,679.85 came out of my Federal loan disbursement [protected]) amount of $7,876.00 for Award Year [protected]. SEE EXHIBIT (B-1, B-2).

I never took Advanced Financial Accounting or Accounting principles, yet I was billed for the classes.

They were eventually taken off. SEE EXHIBIT (B-1, B-2)

I withdrew from the 2 courses I dropped and GCU charged me :

$2344.85 for (Economics- 2017) + $2335.00 for (Managerial Accounting-2018) Total = $4679.85

I feel that I should be refunded the two classes that I withdrew from. The school (GCU) representatives registered me for the class and GCU representatives scheduled the classes to start mid week. There was no teacher instruction, attendance taken, or assignments the first 3 days of class and I feel that the school's policy of no refund after the first week fro non traditional students is discriminatory. The Refund Policy is different for On-campus (Traditional) Students than for Online (Nontraditional) Students.

I got absolutely nothing in return for my $4, 679.85 that was taken out of a loan I owe the Federal Department of Education. This is an unfair practice that GCU University has caused to more students than just myself. SEE EXHIBITS (Z-1, Z-2) I was also double charged for Technology or service fees. I was charged $400 service fee, only to be charged an additional $95 service fee per class. SEE EXHIBIT (B-1)

TIMELINE OF EVENTS

December 2016. I was aggressively recruited by a Grand Canyon University (GCU) representative Russell Bettinger. I was misinformed by Mr. Bettinger about the time it would take to complete the Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree online, I was misinformed by Mr. Bettinger about undergraduate credit that would transfer towards the MBA degree, specifically Managerial Accounting (Undergraduate). Mr. Bettinger also mislead me to believe that taking two (2) additional courses at GCU would give me the knowledge and requirements to sit for the Certified Public Accountant (C.P.A.) exam. SEE EXHIBITS (E-1, E-2) January – March 2017.I attended Grand Canyon University (GCU). I first completed 2 leadership classes required by GCU for the Master's of Business Administration (MBA) degree. The Third course started on Wednesday, March 13, 2017, immediately after the end of my second class, which was unusual. There were no lessons, live classes or ANY direction from the teacher. The assignments had nothing to do with the assigned readings and I decided to withdrew from the course. I was told that I would be billed for the entire course.

The way the classes were structured for attendance was to post on 3 separate days starting Sunday-Thursday. There was no requirement to login or an assignment for 4/13. 4/14 or 4/15. I feel that I withdrew from the class within the first week, since the school scheduled my class to start mid-week, there was no teaching, attendance, or assignment the first 3 days AND they made the process difficult to withdraw from the course.

February 2018. I was registered for my class by a school counselor. I Attended one week of the Managerial Accounting class and again, there were no lessons, live classes or ANY direction from the teacher. I found myself watching YOU TUBE videos on accounting principles to complete my assignments. The assignment had nothing to do with the assigned readings. The weekly assignments had to be in essay form which didn't make a lot of sense to me to write essays for Accounting. I decided to withdraw from the class, which was made difficult. I withdrew from the university, which was also made very difficult. I sent an email Sunday, February 25, 2018 to Emma Magnuson that I wanted to withdrawal from the University and I was told I would be billed for the whole class.

SEE EXHIBIT (E-3)

In Conclusion, I would like to request the refund of: Unaccounted amount $ 594.72
Tuition [protected]) $ 4679.85

Technology/ Service Fee (2017) $ 400.00

Total = $ 5,674.57

I would like to seek monetary and punitive damages for unfairly holding the above amounts and damaging my credit for 3 years by reporting a collections of $1750.14 to the credit bureaus.

Thank you for your help in resolving this matter,

Christopher L Becker

Grand Canyon University [GCU] Stipends and Being enrolled in classes I didn't need.

I decided to go back to school in 2019, sonibapplied for GCU. I went there a full year straight. I had issues with my advisor due to scheduling me for classes that didn't pertain to my degree. When I asked questions about my stipend he couldn't answer directly. While attending in 2020 still I lost my brother and mother, I was still completing my assignments and then I had a break down. My advisor didn't try to help assist me in taking a break, to get well knowingly I just lost my mom and brother. I failed a class, he told me I had to pay for it and I wouldn't get my stipend. I looked for my stipend to help bury my mom but he failed me and I didn't have a desire to go back because nobody would listen. Called his supervisor several times he never answered or returned calls. I feel like I was taken advantage of and I would like to join this lawsuit.

Desired outcome: There was no outcome. They wanted me to pay $1985 for a failed course I didn't need. They dropped me from the program knowing I was having a mental breakdown.

Grand Canyon University [GCU] Fraud

2016 applied for online classes, was mailed a check for funds to pay for said classes. The check was sent to an old address. The person at the old address received the check and cashed it at his local TD bank brank. I filed a police report with the local Warrington police department. I didn't give permission for my mail to be opened, or for any funds to be cashed on my behalf. I forwarded all the information to the school who has since placed this on my credit report and I am not able to take any classes.

Desired outcome: remove charges from my credit report as I never received the funds, I didn't cash or deposit the check.

Grand Canyon University [GCU] Mishandling of Financial Aid

I am now on week 6 of my second semester of courses, my financial aid still has not been posted, I have asked GCU four times where is my financial aid? All of which they are "it will be posted", "it is processing", find it strange I have a positive balance, getting notices in the mail, and this course is just about finished and nothing is posted. When I started last semester financial aid was posted within 2 business days. This is unethical, and misleading. I have been counting on the remainder of my disbursement to purchase a new laptop for school, and other school related expenses, on top of the stress of seeing a positive balance and almost starting a new course makes me extremely uneasy. Upon reading others reviews, seems like I am not the only one who deals with such unprofessionalism with the financial side of GCU.

Grand Canyon University [GCU] Students signed contracts

Student not being held to a standard or agreement they signed.

Have sex with multiple partners and excited that she isnt pregnant. As a worship coordinator this make my stomach turn.

This should not be the standard! If they sign a contract they should be held to a higher standard. Kyleigh Almich should be held to.

Events occurred in October on night stand with someone she knew for 9 hrs, December and February.

As roommates we have had enough.

Desired outcome: She should have a consequence and understand one night stands should not happen in ministry she is held to a higher standard.

Grand Canyon University [GCU] Grade and review of grade for last class taken

every intent to complete my Masters in Childhood Education, I love children and feel I have much to offer. I chose GCU for its reputation towards its students. I should have looked closer at Schools with religious backgrounds or input tend to be cutthroat towards the very people it is supposed to help.

Class POS 500-500 US and Arizona. All work was turned in but to Professor. Brief history this class is about Arizona past and present standings on education, class began with the tec having to unlock my blocked area where I submit class assignment.

We live in Washington half time and half time Arizona, class papers for week 3 to 6 were late by minutes these papers were sent to Professors private space which is where we were told to place them, clearly, we would lose points but she’d open the site accept the papers.

After letter from school Professor stop grading papers, she had me resubmit paper for week 3, paper was graded I got a C. She turned in the week 3 paper told school I committed plagiarism, theft of words She sent a letter to school saying I plagiarized.

School sent me a letter to me 30saying I did not plagiarize but left how she handled the matter with to her degression me up to her from that point to the end of the quarter none of my papers were grade not one. In class discussions work were graded. week 4,5,6, in class discussion grades were graded but not paper assignments no Field Experience.

I need to take this class over with a new Professor. It is not asking to much its not enough for the time waste. The Professor left me hanging, she all but dropped me from class. I deserve my opportunity back. She did not care. I do care. Let me retake the class.

What did I want, what do I think is fair? I want to take the class continue on my journey. All that was needed was to tell me to retake the class with a different professor and move on. You are a Christian school. Only person that can make a mistake is the Father of us all. He made none. Did you forget?

Grand Canyon University [GCU] Unauthorized charges, no advisor available to assist

I was a student at GCU starting in 2020 until 2021. I some major family issues arise and my SSC was right there to help, however in Aug;. 2021 I tried to contact her multiple times and she didn't respond and that was not like her. So I reached to another SSC to check on her, and I was informed that she was not longer there. With only 5 classes left until I graduated things went crazy. They told I would be getting a new SSC assigned to me, well that never happened, but they did enroll me in 2 classes that I was totally unware off because had contacted me. So now they will not let me order an official transcript because I got charged for those to classes because they said I dropped out. I must have an official transcript to finish these classes at another college, or I will lose my job, and financial aid said I could make payments, however my transcript will not be released until the 3300.00 is paid in full.

Desired outcome: I would like to set up monthly automatic payments to clear my account and be able to get my transcript so I do not lose my job.

In 2017 I was living at 701 16th Street Apt 39 Waverly, Iowa 50677. I was very interested in pursuing a Criminal Justice Studies program Online. I contacted Grand Canyon University. My advisors name was Julie. She assured me that GCU was an accredited university and that the best course would be for me to pursue a Master's in Criminal Justice with them. The first course I took was how to work on the system set up for online students. I completed that and then continued my courses. During the summer my son Cole who was 12yrs old at the time was in Iowa from Texas on his summer visit. He was in a terrible car accident. I started to fall behind in my studies because of this accident and the attention needed to my son Cole. I kept in communication with my professor but ended up having to drop out, not even half way through the course, because I fell to far behind.

The desire to complete a Criminal Justice program has never left me. So I began looking into other online programs this year and discovered the best option would be for me to complete an AA degree in Paralegal studies with Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virgina. I was accepted, and 37 credits towards a 60 credit online degree transferred from Upper Iowa University in Fayette, Iowa. I received my BA in Marketing with minor in Psychology from UIU in 1997. And continued to a Master's of Business Leadership graduating Magna Cum Lade in 1998. It wasnt until GCU showed up on my FASA to Liberty University that I was aware of an outstanding balance of over $1600. Without the official transcripts from GCU my classes which were to begin on March 13, 2022 were dropped by Liberty. I now have tried to settle this debt with GCU so I may continue this education. Currently I am receiving SSI and this earning cap of $841 a month has literally made my career advancement and goals nil.

Now Liberty does not require me to pay for a class on how to work their online system? GCU did, and my student loans have reflected I owe for this. Dropping out of the course because of unfortunate circumstances to say the least, made question Liberty University and how without Official transcripts from GCU, who will not release until my bill is paid, has prevented me from taking advantage of having my online fee of $249 at Liberty waived, and also stopped from me from me being able to go all all together.

So I started researching GCU, seems they were not accredited at the time I went, and my credit score dropped because of this bill.

Grand Canyon University [GCU] Public Safety

Hello, I am writing this formal complaint towards the general public safety operations.

I recently received a boot on my car because I did not pay a parking ticket. This I can understand as it is their job to do what their told. My complaint is the way it was done. First, I received three paring tickets three days in a row. I had no idea I was receiving these parking tickets because I had not been to my car. I believe it was excessive for the public safety officers to do this to me when they knew I had not known about these tickets. The second and more important complaint is, when the boot was put on my car, they also put a green 'violation' sticker in the middle of the driver's side window. This is also excessive. The sticker ruined my window when I was taking it off. It took me 40 minutes to scrape off the adhesive from my window and it is still not fully off. (Attached are pictures for further clarification). The placement of the sticker obstructs my view when I drive and is very frustrating to me.

I request for future students that you change the sticker or ask officers to put it somewhere else or not even have the sticker and do a slip like you do for the actual tickets.

Desired outcome: I would like an apology and a change in the operational aspect of how this is done for future students.

Grand Canyon University [GCU] False misrepresentation, accreditation, and misleading

The school is funded primarily by student tuition obtained through student loan programs. The federal government is "wasting hundreds of millions of dollars each year on unaccredited degree programs that do not advance students and their careers." Many of the Grand Canyon students are online students, which explains why the school derives a significant portion of its revenue from these students. School representatives have reportedly been asked to recruit students highlighting the school's method of obtaining student loans to pay for Grand Canyon University tuition. The representatives do not indicate whether the school takes the loan on your behalf, nor do they tell you the amount of the loan. The school reportedly relies on the fact that most student loan payments are not due until after the student graduates, with so many students at Grand Canyon University completing their studies before realizing they have thousands of dollars in debt without your prior knowledge. I am a single parent I cannot waste time, money or any more effort than I already have on a school that will not at least have the decency and be held responsible for telling a student from the beginning about the accreditation. All this mess and all these lawsuits could be avoided. They look really bad for a "Christian" school scamming and misleading students.

Grand Canyon University [GCU] Unjust board review practices

To whom it may concern,
I was terminated from the second session my student teaching placement three days before the end of the course and after all of my work has been turned in. I was supposed to have been given 48 hours for a response. Instead I was given 24 hours. Come to find out they didn't even look at my response. When I asked for an appeal they said they don't do appeals. I wasn't even told why I was being terminated it wasn't until I found out the board reviews decision. Turns out that my mentor teacher said that I was unprepared for class. Keep in mind I was supposed to have the field supervisor contacting me a minimum of once a week just to check in on me and see how things were going it wasn't until our fifth week but she finally contacted us. At that point I still have not been teaching full-time in the classroom. The teacher then sent me home with six books of curriculum to study over the winter break I told her I was not going to be doing that when we were turned on that Monday she was upset With me because I did not spend my winter break studying and she said I was unprepared. She contacted my field supervisor and we set up a meeting for Friday January 7th. I was terminated at 10:00am Apparently because I wasn't prepared with lesson plans. But it really was when she was upset that I did not respond to her email that I never received. Even if I did receive it she had already okayed the lesson plan! Regardless, she can't terminate me because I didn't respond to an email that I don't have to respond to at all hours of the day or night. I'm not checking my email all hours of the day or night!
The board sided with terminating my placement even though I had completed the coursework turned everything in and we were three days away from the end date. I cannot retake the course until I do a four week PIP plan, pay them for the course that I terminated and Pay out-of-pocket to retake it! they're charging me for that course, I have to wait eight months before I can retake it but I can't retake it
Not to mention I've already taken five months off of work for my student Teaching because you're not allowed to work while student teaching. My last paycheck was September 2021. Including the time I have to takeoff work to retake the class this is going to cost me about an additional $10, 000 out-of-pocket . I've have interviews lined up for next week for a teaching positions. If they would've simply looked at my response they would've seen that I did nothing wrong, allowed me to finish the course by doing my few days that I had left in another classroom! More importantly, I was put on the PIP plan Friday. Monday she says my lesson plan was great. Monday afternoon she approves Tuesday's lesson plan then decides to email me after we've already left work then allows me to do two lessons before coming back into the classroom with the principal and the assistant principal telling me they're terminating my placement Because I didn't respond to her email. Here's the funny thing. Lesson plan that I did turn in if you look at dresses the email! She clearly didn't even look at the lesson plan that well because everything she asked in the email was already in the lesson plan!

Desired outcome: I want to be made whole

Grand Canyon University [GCU] Drop Classes charges and the program in general

1/12/2022 I called grand canyon university to drop my class, I am in the first week of an 8 week class. I decided to drop the class since it is my 4th class in this degree program and the assignment are very repetitive and I am going to be writing similar papers. They have a 25% policy so dropping the class is going to cost me around $550. First of all I think that is too much to charge for dropping the class the first week. The only way I can be charged nothing is if I drop the class before I take it and look at it. I think for 1 week of an 8 week class I should be charge 1/8 of the cost or 12.5% or $275, as that would be fair.

They they don't tell you that they will charge you $130 for the text books you are not going to be used. I find that to be unfair and problematic. This school also teaches Christian Values but I don't find those values practiced when it comes to money. Maybe a 10% fee for the online test books that I can't even order a hard copy of.

So I think a $288 charge would be fair and less greedy.

Desired outcome: Policy change and fee reduction

When I agreed to go to the school the first thing I did before signing anything was figure out a budget plan and they promised up and down that it would only be Pell grants and then I would be $60,000. 60,000 and nothing but Pell grants I wouldn't have to pay anything and I would not have to take out loans, I made explicitly sure of this. Grand Canyon University [GCU] Teacher credential retake policy lies

I started my educational journey with HCI back in 2017 with hopes of obtaining a teach wing credential online. I wasn't a "good student" I needed support I ama. Single mother who supports herself. I work and sometimes two jobs. I was a aware of my GPA being lower than the desirable 2.8 but my counselor (I had numerous) they kept telling me I could just retake a course and pay out of pocket to reach my student teaching/credential program requirements if I paid out of pocket. They told me this worth a year or so left in my academic journey. I went through a pandemic, was evicted, I employed and I still dint quit azhooo, but getting that GPA was hard for a working adult. I decided to work two Jonás me save for all my expenses when out of nowhere on 12/2/2021 I get the call that THEIR POLICY ONLY ALLOWS TWO RETAKES, AMD SINCE I NEED MORE THAN TWO! Guess what? I'm screwed. My life is over. Nobody told me about this policy a year ago? NOBODY! Check the emails please. They lied. Now they say I can get just a basic bachelors and get into a separe credential program? For what to get more in debt and waste two more years?
Working and being a startling mother is hard. I don't deserve this. I was lied to as a student for you guys only to collect more money and add me to your rate of graduation. I feel almost suicidal. I can't bring an AZ to a California cease rial program. I am so destroyed. I don't know what to do. I can raise my GPA for those retakes if given the póstumo. Please help me.

Desired outcome: To keep my credential program and allowed my retakes! I want to s tu dent reach :(. Please

I am a graduate of Grand Canyon University. I graduated in May of 2021, with a dual Bachelor's degree in General Education and Special Education. I graduated as Magna Cum Lauda, having received solid A's in every class taken at GCU. I was informed by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing that I qualify to have my testing waived by the university in which I attended, especially since I was able to complete my student teaching hours on a waiver through GCU. Since I received my Bachelor's degree from GCU, I spoke to Alexis Funk, my field coordinator, to request a testing waiver. I was told that she could not waive the testing, but she gave me no reason why. I contacted the teacher credentialing commission once more, at which time I was told to contact GCU again, which I did. Since no action has been taken by GCU, I was told to file a complaint. This is the reason I am filing a formal complaint. I am currently working for the Morongo Unified School District as an instructional assistant for Twentynine Palms HIgh School in the moderate to severe special education program and have worked in this position for over 6 years. All I am waiting for is my certification, which could be granted through a testing waiver by GCU. Testing has become very difficult to access because of COVID-19.

Desired outcome: Testing waiver by Grand Canyon University
