Kathy, did you find anything out? I just found out that, upon finishing my Masters, and spending a huge amount of money, that my focus lost its APA accreditation and I won't be able to become licensed. Luckily I have emails supporting the fact that I kept up on the accreditation and received emails back that are vague and don't directly address the issue. So I'm in my last class for my Masters degree and have HUGE student LOAN debt, I'll receive a piece of paper stating I finished, and all it will be worth is either wiping my [censor] or POSSIBLY becoming a manager at a fast food joint. Will you please email me at suzys_zoo@msn.com if you find out where we can JOIN the suit?

@Sus777, are you talking about the masters in professional counseling? I was enrolled in it when I received a message saying that the university switched to non-profit and that I could finish my master if I wanted but now it has a different name and the accreditation was on the way. I am interested in joining a lawsuit but also, I have to start paying in a couple of months, does anybody know any action we can take to not pay? It is ridiculously expensive and it is going straight to their pockets for nothing.

I am a victim and I would like to become involved in the class action suit, as this is unfair to all of us whom would like to continue our education and not be prevented from doing so. This institution has been fraudulent in the many of its practices including over rated charges and changing of billing statement and over billing loan servicing companies! Something has to be done immediately!

Hello

I am a graduate of Grand Canyon Universities BSN program (Or so I thought).

After attending graduation, receiving two Pop up congratulatory messages for completing the program and receiving an e-mail from my academic adviser congratulating me on “Reaching the end of my journey”, I received an email asking me to past $150.00 for a graduation fee. After paying the fee, I called the school and was told that the transcripts and certificate would take 4-6 weeks. I called back later and was told it may be up to 6-8 weeks. I call today and am now told that I have to take an extra class. They are now telling me that I need to take an extra “upper level class.”

Is there still a class action lawsuit?
Whom should I contact to file a formal complaint?
How do I go about seeking legal adequate legal representation?
Please Help!

I can understand what you're dealing with, it been alot of contoversy with this institution and this is terrible as I am still a student also and this is terrible! I think this type of treatment needs to hit the news soon as this institution is for profit and they are actually ripping students off!

I'm not so sure about this information. I hold a Bachelors Degree from Grand Canyon University in Sociology, a totally useless Degree. I then entered the Masters of Science Addiction Counselor Program, and I'm done the didactic studies, entering into Practicum. I had a hard time finding a site, finally I have one, but I have to pay out of pocket for it. The cost isn't bad, 990.00 each practicum. They state that Financial Aid doesn't pay for 2 credit courses. I'm 2 months behind finding a site and they send me a letter stating that I will have to return to school if I'm out 6 months due to new requirements or something to that effect. I wrote them and told them I would be seeking legal counsel to protect my interest. Then I got a much nicer letter. But still I'm wondering, what the truth is here. I don't really have the money for the Practicum, but I'll squeeze out of a Rock. However, I told them in the early stages what I wanted, to be a Social Worker, they put me in the Sociology Program, this didn't make me a Social Worker, though it was a good foundation, but I'm not satisfied with this institution either. I have many questions unaswered, but I did get my Sociology Degree, and I have all but 4 credits for the Masters. They just make it very hard at the end, and they didn't disclose that information in advance, it was like a huge surprise. I'm interested in talking to a lawyer, that's for sure, because I am in debt to the Gov't which is fine if I invested in something I can use, and I'm not so sure I can.

GCU is NOT CSWE accredited. You must attend a CSWE accredited social work program to get a license in any state.

I would very much like to be part of a class action suit against GCU. I have completed the 60 hours in the Doctorate of Education program with a 3.60 GPA. Since December 2014, I have been in dissertation classes. For the last 8 months through a series of mismanagement by the university I have not even completed my Prospectus. When I should have been finished with my degree this month, it will be almost impossible to finish it by December of this year. Three of the five colleagues in my class are gone without explanation. The one other student left is in agreement with me. We are getting ripped off. I am not your average student. I have excelled throughout my college career. I have a 117 page proposal that have not even been looked at. There is no excuse for this pitiful travesty. No one seems concerned at the university. When recruiting doctoral programs, they brag about the ability of a student to get a doctorate in three years. The three years are up, and I have barely progress beyond the state I was in 8months ago. They accreditation should be questioned. I was told at the university in a public meeting that 90% of students in the program receive their doctorate. This statement was made by a Dean. It is a lie. I do not know what to do. I will not give up as it seems many have.

I too got bamboozled! I went for a Masters in Secondary Education to be an Art teacher. I was told I could obtain a teaching degree based on my content knowledge due to my two other degrees being in Communication Art and Design and a Bachelors of Studio Art from the University of MN Morris. However when I checked with my Minnesota Department of Education that is not so. MN does not allow or issue license on content knowledge regardless if you have a Masters Degree in teaching. I didn't pass the student teaching which I was allowed to repeat. However, I did pass the first eight weeks and they made me repeat the entire 16 weeks and of coarse they took financial aid for all of it.

On my federal financial aid statement it shows that all was paid in full and now they are trying to collect $1090.00 which has already been paid to them and they will not release my transcripts or degree because they are basically holding it hostage for money that was already paid to them by the federal government which I have to pay back. I gave three years of my life for this degree, and maintained a 4.0 throughout the entire time up until the student teaching which was the bizarrest experience of my life. I had to find my own placements. My school did nothing to back up my unprecedented dismissal. Towards the end there were so many red flags and when I started to question things I got the run around and vague answers. I was told the GCU could not even contact my States Department of Education. Why not? Why can't the school that is offering an education to get a teaching degree with a state that has reciprocity contact the students home State Department of Education? When I told my education specialist that I would not be able to teach based on content knowledge even after passing a content knowledge exam he persisted to tell me I was wrong and I even signed a waiver say I could based on content knowledge, a form of course produced by GCU. Everything is a lie is a fraud. I had to continue in these classes and pay for them while they knew full well they were lying to me and that I was not going to be able to get a job or be able to teach. Now I am 69, 000 dollars more in federal student load debt and I can't get my transcripts or my degree. A lesser degree of Masters in Secondary Education with non certification.

I gave up three years of my life and I am now 49 and no chance or opportunity to do what I went to school for. I was sold a lie and giver false dreams and hopes. My academic, educational, student and financial aid advisors changed at least five different times while I attended GCU which ended in November of 2014. I have now clinical anxiety, depression, and so much stress and it is the result of being taken advantage of by this educational institution. I even contacted my State Senator and I was told to contact the US Dept of Higher Ed. and the Arizona Dept of Higher Ed, and different States Attorney Generals, etc. No one wants to do anything. I want help. This school is nothing more than a diploma mill and using the Federal Financial System and people who are looking for a better future to make money. I am just sickened by all of this. I lost three years of my life for nothing and I still have to pay for it.

I failed to classes due to rude incompetent instuctors that didn't do their job. Open book test weren't in the book, they couldn't explain assignments, no knowledge how to use technical support... Gcu and debt collector they sent it to said I only owed $760, in which GCU offered a settlement agreement that I only had pay $360 and they would pay the rest. The debt collector agreed with me and notified GCU (even with my personal contact information updated). GCU has yet to contact me or my emails unless the original email to collect aa $760 debt which I just found out is actually $5, 966.73 debt that automated system nor customer representatives can keep same balance of mind you. I didn't even find out until my credit report was pulled for medical reasons needed and I was denied. I am currently speaking to attorneys trying to obtain them and start law suit if cannot be handled appropriately out of court and am highly interested in any class action lawsuit against Grand Canyon that could pertain to my cases situation please contact send an information to Themangelyis82@gmail.com.

It took a couple not so nice voice mails but the school finally contacted me with the person contact number I needed to talk, low and behold though on the late night prior of me not being able to speak for a week or two. So I am on hold so to give the school time to be accountable for once in three years and correct their wrongs outside of a court room. However, it is funny to me how I have contacted the GCU class action lawsuit email and others but have no responses, shows up as nothing sent through here, and any response in agreeance I (and many others) make is (are) a negative complaint against me (them) to point I am getting random notification emails letting me know. Perhaps the GCU class action lawsuit and this site is just GCU to make life more miserable from them not doing their jobs to begin with blaming students so they pay their salaries like in the 2010 5.2 million dollar settlement GCU was ordered by a judge to pay? Sorry for no spell check but go figure as usual with anything connected to GCU as I experienced, and with malicious viruses attached mind you, spell check is not working again.

I am having a similar issue with the so called "Instructors" at GCU...
They know that you cannot drop the course after the first week of class, and so in the first week they act like they are human beings, and give fair grades. Unfortunately, as soon as you get into week 2, their horns show, and they begin to rip your grades to pieces, because they know it is too late to drop the class now. I like the idea of bringing a lawsuit against the school / faculty for this, but there should be some other way to address bad professors available.
In any case, if there is a lawsuit in the works, I would appreciate any further information on how to participate Please!

I am also a victim of the very deceptive Grand Canyon University. I have tried every avenue and every method of complaint that I can find. The University took my money and failed to release classes to me. After contacting the Department of Education about this, they altered my grade in the ONLY class (introductory level) that I had taken. So, it appeared that I was failing. Mind you, the grade went to a B to an F in a matter of a half an hour.
They failed to communicate with me despite numerous attempts to resolve. Anyone interested in a class action lawsuit, please contact me, , I see this has been done before.

Do Not Enroll, they rob you of your FAFSA and then want to bill you for it. They drop you and say they'll fix it because it was in error, but they won't. You make great grades and contribute so much other peers compliment your efforts, but they drop you on the last week so you have to retake the class and they double dip their fees, while you are left at a step back. They enroll you and drop you without your consent. If they ask you about your belief system and it does not go along with the teacher's, even if you have 100, they will drop you or fail you in the class on the last week. They take long to post your grade for this reason so you no longer have access to the posts to prove it. Then when you are close to finishing, they change the program so you step back on meeting the requirements. They are liars an thieves and rob you without remorse.

I went to GCU in 2011 for by BSN and was told that after a 'scholarship' that I was awarded plus a discount through my employer, I would be responsible for $16, 700 once I graduated. They were constantly 'posting' thousands of dollars onto my account that they had received. I kept inquiring as to why all of these transactions were being placed and they just would say that it was how they billed their 'sessions! Once I graduated, the total balance that I had to pay back was over $30, 000! I was devastated to find out what my payments were going to be as they were more than my car! If there is a class action lawsuit out there, please let me know! I truly believe this place should be shut down and never be allowed to do any of these things to anyone again!

I will be willing to join a class action lawsuit against Grand Canyon U. Everything they did to goof me up would take too long for me to get into. Lets just say that I already have a Masters from Indiana Wesleyan in business and it was a great experience. I graduate with a B+ average. I was told I would be able to teach using a degree in education from Grand Canyon U. I was almost finished with this second masters and found out that it was worthless. Now I am working on an unrelated doctoral program and have to pay cash (with frequent breaks in between classes) as I used up my financial aid going to Grand Canyon. They wasted my time AND money.

I also have the same story about GCU. They put me in debt for over 60, 000 and had to consolidate my loans because they had me paying 5 different loan servicing people. I did get lucky about the job but that was because I was already working in the field at the time I went to school. I was the only one working in my family at the time and they wanted me to do my student teaching at a different school, which would have cost me my job, however I was able to get them to allow me to do my student teaching at the school I worked at but the degree has not helped me in the least when I needed to move and find a new school for employment. I would like to get involved with the class action suit against this school so they are unable to do this to another unsuspecting student. crystalwolfe2000@gmail.com

I went to Grand Canyon University for one class in Sociology. I attended one session which was an introduction of all the students. I then found out that my husband had quit paying the mortgage on our house and had 4th stage head and neck cancer which was why he was such odd things. He passed away soon after this. They still wouldn't accept his death as a good reason and increased the amount I owed them. I wrote to the teacher and the admissions department but they said I didn't follow the directions for withdrawal and charged me for that class and one on Religion that I had planned to take the following semester. I refused to pay them and they sent me letters saying how much I owed them. This was back in 2007 and I still haven't paid them. I would be glad to take part in this class action suit. I am willing to be involved in this class action lawsuit. 1st off I graduated from Ashford University with a BA in applied behavioral science, I enjoyed Ashford and their faculty did everything in thei power to help me succeed. The only reason I decided to change schools and try GCU was because they had a masters program that I was interested in. I started off with one enrollment advisor and then was passed on to a second advisor, both advisors gave me the same information regarding my financial aid, I was then supposed to be contacted by a student coordinator financial advisor. He never called me, instead a different student coordinator financial advisor emailed, but never phoned me. I had several questions still about my financial aid and my classes, now mind you it was a day or two before class. On the day of class I was assigned a student counselor and she was the one who walked me through the portal, and she was also the one who advised me about my financial aid which was in agreement with the first two enrollment advisors answers. So the day after I post I finally get a call from the financial advisor advising me on my financial aid package, and her information was completely different then what three other employees had relayed to me previously. I then asked to go ahead and withdraw since they did not seem to be operating in transparency, especially for a Christian church. After only one day of posting I was told that I could withdraw but I'll be responsible for 25% of that class which was going to cost me over 750.00 dollars. So I told them withdrawal me, I contacted one of the managers there and asked to file a grievance or complaint, so I then get a response from a counselor mngr who was forwarded my email, to help and try to solve the situation. She was able to get me correct info on the financial aid situation and gave me pretty much an hour to decide whether I wanted to go ahead and be reinstated, mind you the time limit for the second week is about to begin and if you withdraw in the second week you will owe them fully for the class. I did decide the next day, which was now the start of the second week to not go with GCU. Well guess what? They are charging me for the full class. So yes I want to be involved with this class a lawsuit. I feel gcu has not been transparent in the information that they give and it is like they are almost deceitful in the way they handle some things. This has been a complete nightmare and now I just went into debt overnight with owing them close to 2000.00 dollars. I think they have too many advisors to advise but they are all not on the same page, and the information they provide is very conflicting.

I would like to be involved as well.
I completed one "payment period" as they called it, which included 3 classes. Then went to start the second "payment period" and I had a death in the family, I'm a military spouse so I had a lot of traveling to do and arrangements to make, so I decided to drop the course. I was told I'd be responsible for a portion of the class. (Which was 198$ supposedly). They granted me a "scholarship due to circumstance" so that I wouldn't have to take that specific course again. After the dust settled, I registered for another class, Graduate Statistics, and I was drowning. I panicked because I didn't want my 3.88 GPA to fall because of bad grades in that class and I just couldn't handle it. So I withdrew completely and was told I'd only be responsible for a portion of the class, because like the first, I dropped it within the first 2 weeks.
I received a statement stating that I owe $3742 plus that $198. I paid the 198$ because that made sense. But $3742? I'm in the process of disputing that. It is definitely not accurate, at all. There's no way. The class with my military scholarship only costs $1695... $3742 is not 25%, it's over 200%... so I want involved in any lawsuit. britanie.minnick@gmail.com

Wow I stumbled on this as IAlso feel like this university scammed doctrinal students. I made an appeal on a professor I had for 8 classes and was horrible with returning papers back in a timely manner. So, no choice but to keep signing up for class after class and that translates to student loans. The expectations are false and the the class I was privileged to be apart no one I believe finished the program. I will stop but have so much more!

I would like to join any possible litigation involving GCU. I recently withdrew after feeling like this place was a paper degree mill. After the instructor failed to email me (twice)regarding a grade, I dropped. At first GCU stated I would owe the balance for the class. A few weeks later I got a bill for over $500. The GCU staff aggressively attempted to collect this bill. I stated that the class was null and void after there was no instructor to answer questions. The instructor didn't even comment on my discussion board topic. This was a very bad experience and a costly one as well. Every class I had I had a problem with the instructors either making up rules or not responding to my email; the course(Masters degree) is obsolete. Most I covered in my undergrad program. I only wish I read the hundeds of complaints and past class action lawsuits before I enrolled in this fraudulent paper mill.

If a class action lawsuit is truly in the works please add me. My email address is JillChetta@gmail.com. It seems everyone here has similar stories to tell. My story starts with a very persuasive enrollment advisor who sucked me into teach grants and multiple loans with more than one lender. This advisor who no longer works for GCU convinced me to transfer out of my local brick and mortar school for classes that would be faster at GCU. Well that absolutely was not true. After the fact, she wanted me to double up on all my classes. Not to mention, she basically chose the Degree Program I should major in. Turns out that program is recommended for people who have already been employed in the school system, which I was not. I should have known it would be reasonable to Major in a dual education degree that leads to licensing and certification if employed, but I was in a dreamworld at the time. 4 years later I finally received my Bachelors Degree in Educational Studies, which is not what I had originally intended on doing. This was with classes that transferred in from another University. I should of realized there was a big problem when attempting to do practicums. So many of the schools where I completed practicums did not even take me seriously, and I had terrible problems making arrangements on my own. Towards the end when I realized I had to set up my own Student Teaching that is when the trouble really began. In the end I felt I had no choice but to switch programs. I had the feeling as if I was slowly getting pushed into a corner with no way out. Well now I have my Bachelors in Educational Studies and can not do anything with it. I am also stuck with a Teach Grant which I will have to voluntarily convert to a loan, because the idea of teaching is not in the cards for me. I also have multiple loans with different lenders which I had to consolidate. I am not sure how to make this work for me. I feel the best option now is the Class Action Lawsuit. Not even sure if I can get Pell Grants at my local College so that I can continue to pursue my education, because now I have a Bachelors. As far as I know, Pell Grants are for students without a Bachelors. GCU even had the nerve to ask me if I would come back to pursue my Masters. Hell No! I also need to mention, I tried to get out of GCU and transfer back to my original school when I saw the red flags, but they played manipulative games and made up stories that were not true to keep me as a student.

GCU prides themselves on being a good christian school until a student with mental illnesses reaches out for help and requests a leave of absence. Then they begin to harass the student with the requirements necessary to make this happen. A few weeks later they reach out and inform you that the requirements have changed and it is too late to do anything about it. Asking for a new counselor does no good. Then a person is informed that they are stuck with the snotty, better than thou counselor that they had the misfortune of being assigned to. Reaching out to their supervisor only makes things worse. As you can imagine this only adds more pressure to someone with bipolar and major depressive disorder who is already struggling to make it from one day to the next. I am already pursuing legal action against the school and I will gladly join a class action suit against Grand Canyon University. Feel free to contact me. Amanda Johnston ajrose0215@gmail.com.

I have been told once that there was some sort of scholarship that I was granted from GCU for a class I had to retake. That apparently fell through. I was then told it would be written off, and now I am receiving a bill for over $2, 000 as well. My main concern about owing any money to GCU, is that it was not mentioned to me that the school needed to be CACREP or CORE accredited for most states to issue a license. I saw that CACREP began to be mentioned on the syllabus, and only a few weeks ago (2 years after starting at GCU) discovered that even if I graduated, my state would not license me. Lastly, I have disability accommodations. My disability has caused me many issues a couple of times. The severity of my mental illness, learning disability, and the problems it has caused most recently, make no difference to the board. It seems as if they are waiting to deny my reinstatement until they can make money off me from my current class instead of automatically withdrawing me like they have before when they prematurely decided I would be expelled for a minimum of 2 years. I was told the review was typically done within 1-3 business days, it has been a couple of weeks. I can't continue like this. Once I finish this current class, I'm transferring to another university. With my disabilities I can no longer endurr this stress and anxiety, it has begun to effect my daily living.

Omg wow that’s terrible. This school is not apart of the DOE, this is what my sis told me. For-Profits are run by investors. See because GCU is not going to tell you that, they just want you to stay with them, and I also found out that GCU is not accredited college.

I was supposed to graduate in 2014 and right before graduation I was told the curriculum changed and I had to take another class. My federal funding had run out after the 4 year degree program and now I am in debt $57, 000 and no diploma. I am interested in any information regarding the lawsuit. I worked 4 long years for my degree and still don't have a diploma.

My name is Nora Washington and I've been treated very unethical by GCU they refuse to allow me to graduate after successfully completing my degree program. They sent me a financial aid check, but can I wasn't supposed to receive one, now it's time for me to graduate and they will not allow me to graduate until I pay a financial aid check back that I was supposed to have received. Now they are writing an email and harassing me about money I don't have, and my advisor refuses to send me my diploma. My account was 0 by the time my advisor recently add a balance so I cannot graduate the treatment is unethical and really not fair at all. HI, I'm currently in the DBA program an experiencing same. In 11/2016 I was assigned a completely incompetent chair. Supposed to "expert" in quantitative research. She admitted (through Zoom) to me she knew nothing about non-experimental descriptive design nor replication studies (which mine is). I expressed the importance to competing as I was under an employment contract to complete DBA in 5 years (that was 11/2013). I took incompetence to director to no avail. Even though I wrote (and submitted) full Ch 1-3 for prospectus in November 2016, I still do not have an approved proposal. I get no assistance from chair at all! I am no lacky, need degree to continue employment where I am (per contract) and work in Higher-ed myself. And BTW, she works for University of Phoenix and adjunct for GCU! Boy is that a conflict of interest! Just found out, I am out of federal funding and will need to spend $500.00 out of pocket for continuation courses (as I took max every year to pay down cc debt, 18% versus 9%, dah) and will have to start repaying my loans as no longer on deferment. Their marketing (3-3.5 years to completion) is bogus. I am looking for any attorney that has won a case against them, I'm on board as I do not think I will have a job after 11/2018 and will be paying my loans back for absolutely nothing!

I was robbed too- they took all my FAFSA money. I found out my degree is unaccredited. All this after my dad had died two months before. They were pressuring me to continue going to school I had only 4 more classes before my fake degree. I want to be apart of this lawsuit. What can I do? heathafeatha05@gmail.com

@Robert Woosley. I am in the same situation in DBA program. Started my program in 11/2013. I have been assigned a completely incompetent chair who works full-time for University of Phoenix. Boy is there a conflict of interest there? She has done nothing to help me. In fact, I do not think she has gotten anyone to AQR. Chair is supposed to be expert in quantitative research but has no idea what a quantitative non-experimental descriptive study is! Additionally, I am doing a replication study and she has no idea what that is either! In March 2017, upon her request I sent 2 empirical articles on each. I do not think she has even read it! My methodologist doesn't know how to handle a replication study either! I have requested a change in chair 7 times to no avail. They have maxed out my financial aid and I am now told I will have to start paying back my loans ( in 8 weeks) and start paying $500.00 to GCU for extension courses. Lastly, I signed an employment contract in 08/2013 that I would complete a terminal degree in 5 years. I chose GCU because they stated 3-3.5 years to complete. Clearly, I will not complete in 5 years and could lose my job as well. I am 54 years old, who will hire me after this! I cannot even purchase a new home or do anything that requires r3eview of my credit because of my debt. Yesterday, I contacted the Dept of Ed to see if they can run some interference on this. After all, GCU has extorted their money using me as a student. Additionally, I saw this post earlier. "Please contact us at GCUclassactionlawsuit (This is a Yahoo account) if you are interested in joining the class action lawsuit." Personally, I am not a lawsuit type of person but GCU is leaving me no choice here. My email is ecklerb14@gmail.com

To try to study entrepreneurship.I only turned in my biography but never a completed( not even one) assignment because i knew i would not have the time to study because i have to work .Now they are telling me i owe them over $2, 000.I thought at least they would terminate everything being that I did not continue. There just in it for the money.Makes them even look worser calling themselves a Christian college .No forgiveness. My email is nvladymir@gmail.com
