I graduated in 2013, but had nothing but problems with them. I was even threatened that I could not post anything more against them. I was an honor graduate but was not even informed of that until it was too late to get my honor chord. They hire students who are more interested in fun and games than work. But whining and complaining on sites like this does nothing. Organize for a class action suit for violation of your civil rights. I have been trying to organize this for sometime but people would rather complain than take action.
unethical behavior
On March 23, 2016 I received a phone call from the school stating that I will have to pay them 400 plus dollars. I was to start school on March 21, 2016 but due to family issues I was not able to start. I did inform the professor that I will not be able to attend class. Than I was told be the individual who called me that I will have to pay a total of 700 plus dollars. The amount went from 400 plus to 700 plus simply because I informed the professor that I will not be attending class. I feel that it is very unethical to have someone pay back money for not attending the school. For not evening participating in the class at all. I received a phone call on Friday March 18 from a Josua Mondaca telling me about the school. I told him that I could not hear him. I was told today that he sent me an email with all the information. I doubled checked my emails and all the emails that I do have from Grand Canyon are from a Jacque Pickering who is a Student Councelor.
I have experienced substantial problems as well... there is currently a New York Time reporter doing a story on GCU's unethical behavior towards its students. I would love to get a class action lawsuit against them for damages (both financially and emotionally) incurred as a result of the so called education they provide. I am a freshman 2019, I arrived at GCU full of good expectations since this university boasts a lot of its Christian values, the safe environment and the brotherhood. This happens only if you are white. I am Mexican and since I arrived I suffered discrimination and I was left alone. my roommate took out his mattress and his things for not wanting to be with me, I made fun of my accent when speaking English and nobody cared. It's a lie that leaders and counselors care. CGU just wants to be paid all semester. Notify the month of being there that I do not want to be alone, depressed and relegated and that I would go back to my state. They don't care and I find it unfair to pay for the entire semester if I'm not going to attend. I don't see the help and compassion that GCU and its community claim to have.
money kept unjustly
My son left after two months into the semester. They're keeping thousands of our dollars as we paid the year in full. After grant money we put up 11 thousand in cash. We are on limited income and this took everything. That's just plain robbery. There's also a lot of bad reviews about them that I would have loved to see first before making this massive error.
education
Classes are not being released to me that I paid for with federal Financial Aid, after notifying the school that I was filing a complaint with the Department of Education, my grade was altered in an introductory class. I continued to re-take the class, but retaliatory action continued. I have lost over seven thousand dollars and have no response to several communications with the school staff. I began classes in September and discrimination and lack of communication have continued until the present,

doctoral program
With one class left to finish my doctorate in education GCU university has changed two members of my committee. One left the University and the other was reassigned for no reason. I have an approved Prospectus and Proposal from my previous committee that the new Chair is not honoring. The new Chair is wanting me to revise my entire Proposal. Their program...

After the first full week of classes, I tried to drop a Grand Canyon University online class. I was told that if I dropped the class, I would have to pay off a balance of 1, 495 dollars within 3 months! Most real colleges allow you to drop a class within the first 2 weeks without penalty. Now I have to take and pass my online class...and I have to take and pass a 2nd online class. Please avoid Grand Canyon University!

I too am having the same issue. I finished the first class and want to leave the school and now they are telling me that I can not leave or I will be liable for the bill of the first class. I have financial aid and a federal loan. They are prolonging processing my financial aid payment so that I can stay with the college. I will be filing a complaint.
I've experienced the same issue. I now supposedly owe $925.00 for 2 days of enrollment. I filed a complaint with the Arizona BBB.
" Highway Robbery "
incompetent academic counselors and financial aid counselors
I will be calling the school today. I am currently in process of consulting and obtaining legal counsel for a lawsuit. After being told I only owed $760 with Grand Canyon University making a settlement offer to pay all except $360 to find out there's a balance of $5, 966.73 with NelNet. Not even the automated system nor customer representatives can give the same balances on. And not even both of my stipend checks combined total it. In order to get a second stipend check you do not owe the first one. Yet I have two charges against my credit. I already took a failing grade for one class so the instructor could keep her job due to all calls being monitored and recorded which landed her fired with me livid irate. I felt sorry for the instructor so saved my grace and took the grade. The second class failed was due to an instructor not knowing how to go through technical support and reopen the portal so I could submit my work. The instructor was allowing with instructions to call technical support. I called technical support and then called the instructor with technical support instructions. All of which was not only was recorded by the school but I have two witnesses of as well. My financial adviser and counselor's emailed me. I responded to but they just send same original email instead of addressing and resolving my reply in which I have copies of somewhere. Financial aid pays for you to be taught by trained teachers so you can better your education not fail classes by unqualified teachers. It would be different if I was at fault and did not follow protocol call. However, I am not at fault and followed protocol to the letter. Resulting in being lied to, frauded, passed to this person and this person just to be ignored and manipulated into paying what I do not owe or $0 payment for twenty years not allowed to attend school continuing my education. Grand Canyon University is reporting to NelNet, department of education, and credit bureau falsely. If you speak up you're referred back to the school. I would like to know more about any class lawsuit against Grand Canyon University and join if it applies to me but whether or not a class action does my attorneys will be on it after I give the school this last chance today. I stopped attending to avoid this issue just to find out it was already happening. Grand Canyon University is at sole fault which ruined my credit and any hope of a chance of obtaining my education and debt collectors and the rest all agree yet falls back on Grand Canyon

financial department/advisors
I am a veteran and collect the GI bill. My classes are covered through the Veterans Department and I do not need to fill out financial aid unless I choose to do so. I chose to fill out FAFSA solely to receive my grants. It has been 3 months since my grants posted to my account. GCU receives payments from the VA for my classes yet is withholding my federal grant money from me. I was told in July that I would receive my money as soon as it posted since my classes are already paid for then only for it to change to me receiving my full $3, 325 by October 13th, it is now the 19th of October. I can not get in touch with any advisors regarding this matter after bringing it up a week ago, instead my account was tampered with. GCU does not go by 'semesters' but by their "payment periods", I was promised I would receive my full grant by the 13th of October and since bringing up this issue there have been extra charges to my account and the "military scholarship" suddenly down from over $700 to one cent so it would no longer reflect a credit balance. This is not a veteran friendly school as they do not bill the VA appropriately. It seems this is not a friendly school for anyone from what I keep reading. I would appreciate GCU returning my calls, stop adding extra charges to my account, to stop giving then taking away 'scholarships', and to return the federal government's money to me. Also if you have an issue with this school, they will quickly issue an academic charge against you. I have spoken with FAFSA personnel multiple times only to be told this is not right and they should not be withholding my money from me.
Please contact me as I'm hiring an attorney. Thank you!
refused to give refund
Applied for forensic science online not aware there wasn't a class to teach you the basic computer skills for the actual class after three days wrote the online teacher that I was withdrawing and sent counselor Eva Roth an email two weeks later she refused to give me a refund and also charged me $50.00 withdraw fee and charged me classes I never attended. My total ended up being $5960.27. this is so wrong, people go to college to educate their selves and make an honest living not be indebt before they begin to proceed with their goals. I have been trying to fight this since 08/09/2008. filed in California thought thing was actually going to happen then I was rejected because the school was from Arizona. I then started all over again to no provable... Heard not a thing I'm now in a place where I'm totally stuck

dalia enrollment counselor
I had bad experience with Dalia horrible, she speaks so rudely I dont see how anyone will want to attend this school, Sherik was nice and patient enough to help me but Dalia besides rude was. calling me back to give me a guilt trip after my computer sent a new request, she said she closed my file so what did I wanted. ? i called her back told her nothing was a computer mistake I was not interested to attend there. After some one thinks their like your mother is rude as rude can be . why would i want to spend time and money there? I should of checked reviews, don't get me wrong maybe the school is good but DALIA'S work ethics, are bad..i Would like to say if you get her to help you don't..
gpa withheld at 2. 9
My name is Lennox Beharry. Tel. [protected].[protected]@ymail.com I attended an MBA COURSE from 9/2009-5/2012 at GCU.It was alleged that 2 assignments were not downloaded and my gpa would remain at 2.9. I offered to complete them but was informed that I had to pay $2139 for the whole course. I was also informed that I was overpaid $2139 I Financial aid for a course I was originally billed for but was found unnecessary for my program. I am retired and disabled, and have been unable to obtain employment since then to resolve these matters
Lennox, I too am a MBA student. I'm sorry to hear of your problems with the school, but that doesn't seem to surprise me as I have had nothing but problems with their financial aid department since the second disbursement period. It is possible that an over-award had been processed, and you will need to contact your financial (l. o. a. n.) servicer to resolve this (its actually a fairly easy thing to take care of). As for the other issue, I would suggest contacting the U.S. Department of Education Ombudsman; they might be able to assist you. [protected].
As of late, I have been waiting on the check portion of my award to be sent to me, but as it sits GCU is now not in compliance with regulation Sec. 668.164 on two counts in my case. I will make one more attempt to have their student services to issue the check today, or I will be filing a formal complaint with the U.S. DOE Ombudsman. Moreover, it has occurred to me that withholding these funds from me is basically theft, and there is a possibility that GCU is inflating their financials by holding the students funds. If this is the case, then this would be a clear case of accounting fraud. As a professional accountant that works in both the financial and accounting realm, I am legally and ethically obligated to report such an instance to the SEC's fraud investigations as this company is publically traded. If they refuse to do the correct thing and issue me the check, they can deal with the Federal government units that are there to protect the students, and to protect their investors.
books
Grand canyon university is charging each student $95. 00 for each e - book. This is an illegitimate charge as it is a charge to "rent" a book, with the student having access only via internet / computer. The school should not charge a rental fee for a textbook that cannot physically be used or incorporated in the student's library for personal and professional use. I have requested a credit for these "rental" charges, or, the hard or soft bound copies for my professional use as a counselor, subsequent to graduation. No one has addressed this issue or answered my inquiries regarding this matter. A vital part of any private practice or professional endeavor is to have access to a reliable text based on approprite subject matter. Gcu students are being short changed and this need to be corrected. A choice should be available to "rent" an e - book or purchase a hard or soft - bound for one's library. Charges should be implemented dependent upon this choice.

Their Own Professors are Miserable
Even the professors know GCU is a joke. For them, it's a HORRIBLE place to work. Here's what they say about working at Grand Canyon University. I found this on an employer-rating web site:
"The turnover here is a great indicator of the kind of environment you're getting into: 18months. And the administration doesn't bat an eye. The bottom line is: you don't matter to them; if you leave, they'll just fill your spot with someone else, preferably someone unqualified so they'll have no choice but to take the bullying and stick around, since they would never get hired in the same position elsewhere...By way of summary I would say you are micromanaged and disempowered...and colleagues don't want to spend time with each other to build a faculty culture because everyone just wants to get out as quickly as possible...The work environment is hostile and fear-based, consisting of extreme micromanagement and little employee empowerment. The people who last are "Yes-men;" making a decision for yourself or voicing an opinion contrary to upper management's is the surest way to be terminated...Of course, there is no faculty senate or representation to the administration. Faculty therefore have no input and no way to advocate for better circumstances to improve their job performance...Upper management motivate by fear..."
Here's another:
"The culture is influenced by people who are sales driven in some divisions and others are more employee focused with a sales push...The industry as a whole falls into a sales type environment for recruiting students and are limited in not providing sales type salaries and commission for the closed sales or enrolled students. The profits are there to support a commission, but the department of education doesn't allow the practice. So employees look forward to a 0 to 4 percent raise for a sales type position at each level due to the measures or job descriptions each are held to."
Would you really want to pay many thousands of dollars for a fake education from a fake "university" where the professors are downtrodden, underpaid, powerless and unhappy? Do you really want to give your money to an institution that cares nothing about EDUCATION, but rather making about making as much cash as possible as quickly as possible? Do you really want to pay money for a sub-par education provided by a CULT?
(Grand Canyon University is owned by the evil, sick, hateful MORMONS). Trust me; it's not a "Christian" college; the same Mormon psychos run GSU as did U. of Phoenix.
Another week has passed and this instructor for Biology has really pushed my last button. I am going to send an email explaining all the problems I have encountered since my start there in 2009. I can say that they have been consistent in providing me with so much stress that I am sick physically. Not a single person there has resolved any issue that I have experienced there. There are way too many students for that little school to handle. Now wanting to get out my class and withdraw I will have to pay 100% of what it costs. What the kicker is is that when depending on my financial aid I have had to bend over backwards to get my aid. No one even knows what it has taken me to receive the aid that is mine. I have had to endure weeks and weeks of stress and anguish over this all and not one single method of resolution has been done. I still have to do all my own investigation to find out about my financial aid there. Not only that. I have said over and over what type of treatment I have received there and I am done.
I am going to contact the local media and from there I am going to contact every person on the board of education concerning these issues. No one should have to go through what I have gone through for an education.

gcu steals students' money
GCU is owned and run by Mormons. It's not a "Christian" school. They don't want that getting out since the U. Of Phoenix - also Mormon-owned - was successfully sued for discrimination against non-Mormons. The LDS "church" is known for purposefully hiding the fact that they own certain companies. Mormons are NOT Christians; they are a cult. They teach their...

Never have I been as frustrated with any association as I was tonight with Grand Canyon University. To my immediate friends and family I have made it very clear that I have issues with my roommate, not uncommon for a freshman girl. The problem I have is with the institutions way of handling the situation. If you asked me right now, I would not recommend any upcoming college freshman to attend GCU because of the way I have been treated.
A mediation was set up between my two RA's and my roommate (no big deal). The mediation went fine, although the RA's (the school's) solution for conflict was to create a list of rules for each other to follow to make living together easier (i.e. I won't listen to music in the morning or I will try to be quieter when I come in at night). For me, this petty attempt at a solution did absolutely nothing. I then went to the room of the RA of the hall that I wanted to switch to and talked to her about my situation. She was extremely nice and listened and helped me think of different solutions to my problems and saw no problem with me moving out of my current room, into one in her hall that will be open at semester, also claiming that she had three open rooms currently. She suggested I talk to housing.
I went to the housing office a few minutes later where I was not given the time of day and simply told that there would be no roommate switches under any circumstance, without even being given the opportunity to explain myself or even speak with someone in authority. I then contacted my RD requesting a meeting just to talk about my situation, since no one would listen or even tell me what steps are necessary. She sent me an email stating the my RA had told her that I did not want to continue with the mediation process (AKA move out), which was a complete lie. I was never asked if I wanted to continue the process or even talked to in person about how things were going after the list of rules was given. This offended me greatly. I then reached out to my RA asking why she would say this when clearly I did want to move out still. She then said that I was not acting like an adult and there was no reason that the RD would even consider a meeting with me. I kept asking her why it would be a problem to move into a room that I know without a shadow of a doubt is available to which she never replied.
Tonight, I had a one on one meeting with this same RA because I had missed a hall meeting for work. She came into the room, extremely unfriendly and handed me a piece of paper saying this is what was covered (not explaining anything) and made an effort to leave. I stopped her, since I thought I could ask some questions in person about why I could not leave my room. I asked her about the room I knew was available and she claimed that even if it was available someone else might move in at semester, which I know is a lie since that room has already been paid for, yet will remain empty because that student will have transferred (which doesn't seem like a bad idea). She told me that even if a room is empty I am not allowed to move into it. I continued to ask questions with to which she would reply every time, "Candace, there are no room switches, " in a heated voice. She then stated, "I will not argue with you, " when I was simply asking questions in a reasonable tone. I asked if she would just sit down so we could talk about it, when she simply walked out and said, "have a goodnight." She is the one acting like a child, not me. She would not even sit me down to answer questions like a good RA would do. She refused to give me the time of day and walked out, slamming the door on her way out.
If GCU's housing staff cannot make time to sit down and talk with a student about issues that are occurring, or try to keep the student happy, that student will leave. Because of GCU treating me poorly and the staff not being willing to help someone that is supplying money for their paychecks, there is no reason for me to continue giving my support to GCU. If they treat their students like this, I do not want to be one of their students any longer.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
disbursement/stipend
I have been attending Grand Canyon University and strive so hard to maintain an A average and yet every time it comes to My disbursement and stipend it is always an issue it can become to emotionally draining to deal with this every time. My stipend was supposed to be sent out on October 14th and still yet I have not received anything except mail saying that I made good grades it is strange that out of all the things that come up missing in the mail just that my check did not sure if they even sent it out when they said I called and sent e-mails about the matter and yet I feel I am getting the run around this matter. You would think that they would be more willing to help students feel less stressful and assuring that things run smoothly instead of having one feel as though they are being avoided.
This issue was resolved and it was not GCU fault it was postal service...
I asked for a little extra financial aid they told me I would receive more than enough financial aid I received a 1700.00 stipend but it looks like I should've gotten more. the counselors do not explain financial aid i've tried to get a straight answer from my financial aid counselor and haven't heard anything and when I talk with him its the run around I got all kinds of grants plus a sub and unsub loan from moela

financial services
I have been attending Grand Canyon University and strive so hard to maintain an A average and yet every time it comes to My disbursement and stipend it is always an issue it can become to emotionally draining to deal with this every time my stipend was supposed to be sent out on October 14th and yet still nothing if it was sent out it is lost and I feel that they are not doing anything to fix/resolve this issue in a timely manner I am almost finished with my 7 week class and it is said they have by law to mail it out within 14 days of disbursement and yet I receive mail from them regarding everything else except my funds that I have to pay back... this is really getting ridiculous!
You do have recourse. I like you have had nothing but problems with their financial disbursements, and GCU is clearly in violation of Sec. 668.164. Please read the IFAP Regulations on Sec. 668.164 Disbursing funds. In my case they are in violation on two counts, but you will need to read the Sec. to determine what, if any violation have occurred on your account. If you believe this to be the case, you can contact the U.S. Department of Education Ombudsman and file a formal complaint. In essence, these regulations are in place to protect the student from unethical and illegal handling of these funds by the school. The Ombudsman is a Federal officer that is legally trained in these matters and sworn to insure that the school upholds these laws. They also have the authority to enforce penalties against a school that fails in their duties. You can contact them at [protected].
finances
First of all the education that this school provide to you is basically you instructing yourself but paying this school. It is highly over priced for the quality. It is very difficult to get someone on the phone and it seems the person on the other end of the phone do not have a clue what your are talking about since the turnover rate is high. They never return your calls. The advisers are not adequate in helping you continue your education, especially the financial aid advisors. The instructors do not come up with the assignments themselves and can only do so much through email. The course work is faulty. There is no extra credit. That whole "go at your own pace" is a lie since you are timed to do this and have a time to do that team learning. How can you have teams when people have their own schedule and numerous time zones? I did not learn a thing from the math courses. The school is very informal and lack compassion. I did not enroll to pay for a building I will never see but an education which I can use to my advantage. I only have seven courses left when they decided I do not have enough financial aid to cover a course I begged them to give me time off due to personal issues. I filled out the fafsa and have enough to continue and finish however they will not enroll me and say that I owe them a ridiculous amount of money. I have holds on registration and transcripts. They lied about the cost of this degree program, the time it would take to graduate, and the quality of the education. I would not ever in a million years advise anyone to go to this money hungry school. More like a money hungry company than an educational based school.
Indeed, I have received nearly no feedback or help from any of the three committees I have worked with, and there are no tutors available to help.
I have experienced substantial problems as well... there is currently a New York Time reporter doing a story on GCU's unethical behavior towards its students. I would love to get a class action lawsuit against them for damages (both financially and emotionally) incurred as a result of the so called education they provide. If you are interested email me at swedehart@msn.com
I am in the same situation. Worthless Degree and they are trying to take more money from me by withholding my transcripts and degree saying I still owe them $1090.00 even though that money was dispersed to them according to my financial aid statement from the FAFSA. I am now $69, 000.00 in federal student aid debt just for attending GCU. I completed the Masters Secondary Education program. They lied to me from the beginning about everything. I cannot teach based on content knowledge and yet they continued to tell me to do this and that. I even told them that my State Department of Education did not issue teaching license on content knowledge even if you passed the content knowledge exam. However GCU continued to tell me otherwise. I had to find my own practicums and student teaching. This turned out to be nothing more than a disaster. I also was 4.0 student and featured as a Spotlight Student for the dept of education and it all went down hill from there. Your school does not back you up in your student teaching placements nor do they support you if you need their help. It is like teaching yourself. My counselors in financial aid, academics, admissions and student education specialist changed at least five different times over the course of three years. I lost three years of my life and I cant get it back. I am 49 years old and I am no better off than when I started at GCU. I cant get a job my degree is worthless and I am sinking in student-aid debt. This school needs to be closed. As other students have stated this is not a Christian University. They are hiding behind the Christian School title. I want to jump in on any class action suits that will render my situation. I have clinical anxiety, I can't get a job and my student-aid debts are all coming due. This place is nothing more than a diploma mill based on false dreams and promises.
I even wrote my state Senator and everything they told me to do leads to dead ends. Hopefully this will not. I have attached the letter that I wrote my State Senator.
If there are any lawyers out there looking to take this on please email me first for I have so much student aid debt that they are now in collections I am leary of answering my phone. My email is abernathycjm@yahoo.com Please people lets stand together and not let them do this to us. We are powerful in numbers.
Sincerely,
Christine Ivy

financial aid
First off, I'm a single mom of a four year-old. When I first got the call from Max T. (the entrance counselor) I was living with my parents about to close the loan on my home. I had told Max MULTIPLE TIMES that the only way I would be interested in going back to school is if it was going to be at absolutely NO cost to me. He assured me that being a single mom with a low income and to be the first to graduate college in my family, I'd be covered for sure. LIES!
When I first started class, Max had told me the stipends (the checks sent in the mail to me) were money left over from all the grants and scholarships that I'd received, and that I was free to do with them as I wanted, as long as it was school related. I thought it was a little weird, but figured that being a school based on Christian values, they wouldn't lie. WRONG.
I just started my second year and found out that they took out 4 loans in my name, totaling almost $20, 000.00! So much for going to school at no cost! I had done a little research and found the screen where it shows "Accept" loans and they'd all been checked...NOT BY ME! Went to go back and print it out.. Hmm.. Guess what somehow magically disappeared. Went and chatted with the tech support and they seem to have "No idea" of what screen I'm talking about. My financial counselor now, Jessica Bell, seems to have no recollection that I ever stated I didn't want to have any loans either. If they can pull up the first conversation they had with me (and I know they can b/c they're all recorded) they'd hear me say time after time that the ONLY way I'd ever want to go back to school is if I never had to pay a penny back. If I choose to finish, it looks like I'll be at least $40, 000.00 in debt. Why would I have chosen this option when it would have only cost me $14, 000 to continue at a nearby on campus college here?!
This school is a scam! I regret EVER starting here! It's been a waste of time and a huge hassle all together. My advice: Keep looking because this school will screw you over too.
I am just a student at GCU. Yes, I get aggravated when trying to contact someone. It seems the advisers are always at "special events". However, I do not understand how the original poster claims she had no idea student loans were being/ had been taken out. You have to "sign" a MPN (Master Promissory Note) for each school you attend in order to even GET student loans. This CANNOT be done by the school, since you use your own PIN to do it. Anyone with any sense who has been to college before would know that this post is untrue. Also, you can choose NOT to accept the overage (stipend), and reduce your student loan obligation.

That is a violation of your civil rights. lodge a complaint with the dept. of justice.
I was threatened to- for asking questions and asking for a review from the school. They also lied about my complaints, made false allegations against me, and penalized me for seeking help.
