On Wed 4th Oct 2023 at approximately 2 pm i attended my local Liquor land located in Fairfield shopping centre 4811 in order to purchase an 8 pack of beer. Whilst I was making my purchase I noticed an elderly gentleman walking out with what seemed like a trolley full of unpaid alcohol, when I alerted the staff member he became angry and made rude comments about the elderly gentleman and to myself.
Later in the afternoon around 6pm I returned with my partner to shop at coles and on the way out I decided to purchase another 6 pack of beers. The same staff member who was previously in the store followed me around the store and after I had collected my chosen purchase off the shelf he took them out of my hands and walked to the counter and said he was refusing me service. I asked him if he was serious as I thought he may have been joking since I shop here on a regular basis and usually have never had a problem. The staff member stood there smiling and laughing and replied that he was I fact serious.
After leaving Liquor land I then attended another store to purchase alcohol. I explained what had just happened and the staff member said this gentleman was well with in his right to refuse service due to the effects of alcohol however he believed there was no reason to refuse service and happily let me make my purchase.
Unfortunately I will not be shopping in this store again as I do not feel I was treated fairly and within reason. I believe the responsibil staff member should be held accountable for such behaviour.
Kind regards, Dennis Costello
