Contacted Long Fence in January to replace security door. Still waiting for it to be installed properly. You can see where the old door was removed and there is a large gap between the door and the house. Have sent letters to the CEO, department heads and supervisors. Have made numerous phone calls, taken pictures and sent the pictures to them, Still no...

My wife and I received an unsolicited sales pitch by Long Fence and Home, L.L.L.P. asking if we would like an estimate for windows, doors, etc. I informed their telephone sales representative that we had several projects and the first thing we needed done was the replacement of a large arched window -- if they could do the work. We wanted the window...

Long Fence is the most unprofessional and negligent contractors that I have even encountered. The salesperson (Dan Petro) was very prompt and alert initially when he collected my 1/3 deposit however he has completely neglected this fence install after the check was cashed. I have been mislead by from the very beginning and I would not advise anyone to use this contractor for anything. After having to do all of the leg work to get the Architectural Request completed and sent to my HOA (initially told to me that Dan would handle all of this administrative stuff) you would think that anyone of the salespeople would have intervened! Not at all everyone is incompetent at that company. I am still waiting on my deposit refund since the long awaited install never occurred due to the fact that the supplies are not in stock! That in its self is a testament of what a horrible company this is. A fence company should at least have supplies on hand or easy access to a supply company that can rush delivery for a 900 square foot fence. I would advise any and every one considering Long Fence for anything to completely abandon the idea. Long Fence sucks!

Terrible Overall Experience
Terrible experience!
When we put an offer on our new home we had Long Fence come out and do a quote to fence in the yard for our dog. We agreed to move forward with the fence after we moved in and received approval from our HOA.
Before we even owned the house we got a call from our Realtor stating that Long Fence went over to the home and installed the fence! It was not even our house yet and we did not have HOA approval.
We had selected a financing option for the fence and kept calling Long Fence to get the bill to us. A couple of months later we finally received the billing documents to sign which were for the wrong amount. So, we had a long process and multiple phone calls to get the proper amount sent to us. We filled out the documents and called every few weeks or to find out where our bill was. We later found out that bills were being sent to the wrong address and we had incurred late penalties for the past two months with our account (Wells Fargo financing plan). Wells Fargo was pretty helpful but could not make changes to our account on behalf of Long Fence. Long Fence basically told us we were on our own and that's too bad.
It has been six months and this is still not resolved!

Awful salesman that wouldn't leave
Just had a salesman from Long Fence Windows come to the house for an estimate and it was the worst experience I've ever had. Do not let them in! I was upfront about not wanting a sales pitch. I had done my research on the various windows and technologies so was really just looking for a price estimate. The guy proceeded to pitch us for over an hour and as time went on I knew it wasn't right and started to feel uncomfortable with him being in my house for various reasons. I literally had to threaten to call the police to get this guy to leave and he was still giving me pitches about the "space age" technology of the windows as he was leaving. Really would have loved to walk away with a deal but after this experience I will NEVER recommend this company, in fact I'll make sure to tell people not to use them.

Ridiculous
On this past Memorial Day, I was the victim of an attempted break-in. In the process, a window [which I had gotten installed through Long Fence less that 2 yrs ago] was broken. Even though I have a “lifetime” warranty certificate that says it covers broken glass for any reason, I was told that I am not covered because the window was broken due to vandalism, which they don’t cover. The certificate does not say anything about that but the customer service representative said that it is written somewhere on my contract. So, I was informed that if I wanted the company to go ahead and order the glass, it would take anywhere from 1-2 weeks for them to get the glass in. After about a week and a half, I called back because I hadn’t heard anything. I was told that because I didn’t call back to confirm that I wanted the glass ordered no one had placed the order. I very upset at this point, but I went ahead and told them to order it anyway. After a couple of days I received another call saying I had to pay up front before the order was placed since I was not being covered by an insurance company. I gave my credit card information and my card was charged for the approx. $150.00. I got a call a little over a week later letting me know that the glass had arrived and for me to call and schedule an appt., which I did. The appt was supposed to be for July 11 between 9 and 3 and I was told that someone would call me on that day to let me know about what time they would come. On that Saturday, I stayed home and waited and waited, checked the phone, checked the door several times and no one had contacted me. I waited until after 5:00 to leave the house just to make sure no one was coming. So, I left a message for someone to call me as soon as possible. Since the office was closed on the weekend, that didn’t happen until Monday. I spoke with several customer service reps and told them the situation and was informed that in the system it was a note saying that a technician came to my home and I was not there and a note was left, which is a lie. I had a baby shower to go to and even got to that late because I waited until after 5:00 to leave my home. It is not possible that someone came by or even called me at all unless it was after that time. I have put over $7, 000 into this company and it has been more that a month since my window was broken and I have not gotten anything close to the service that I deserve. When I ask for a manager, I keep getting transferred to the same person who keeps telling me that only thing that I can do is reschedule … and what? Wait for another week or two to get this taken care of. This is just ridiculous.

Fence Installation
My entire experience with Long Fence, Chantilly VA, has left me wishing that I had taken the time to at least perform an internet search on complaints about the company prior to having work performed. That was my mistake. First the positive: Salesmen was prompt and provided a written and pictorial drawing of the fence, installation crew showed up on the day they were scheduled to arrive, they installed the fence. Okay that sums up the positive parts. Now the negative and yet to be resolved part: I would like to make an analogy about the work but feel that any reference I use would be taken in the wrong way, so lets just say that I could have done a better job after going on a week long drinking fest and only working at night, while drunk, with no lights. The fence is supposed to have 1 1/2 inch spacing and be tight to the ground. We have small dogs and the reason for the fence was, DUH! To keep the dogs in! So needless to say the fence neither has 1 1/2 inch spacing nor is it tight to the ground. In fact there are many places that we have pilled rocks to block the space under the fence. And to top it off the construction foreman that collected the payment, LOST the envelope. I have spoken to my salesmen who assured me that it would be taken care of. Not sure who's life time he was using as a reference point. Needless to say, it will cost me more money to have the fence properly installed by a reputable contractor. Lesson learned.

Also used Long Fence due to their long standing in the business world. Hurricane Sandy demolished our 6' tall board on board fence. We had a family of 4 or 5 Spanish people, who basically are SUB-CONTRACTORS! Of course, this was not explained at the beginning. As other folks here, i believed that it would be actually Long Fence employees, who gave a damn about their reputation, but i was silly in 'assuming', remember it makes an *ss out of you and me! I am still on the phone trying to get issues resolved: marks in yard where they had a dumpster put, big rocks alll throughout the yard (for my mower to hit), my main gates are kept shut with a bungee cord, they are already starting to hang/droop, and large areas under the fence and 4 dogs, yes, fence was to keep dogs in the yard. Told them no signs on fence, we will NOT help give them future business!
We made the same mistake - it took weeks and weeks to get it done, it wasn't done when promised at least 2 times and when it was done - it looked like a bunch of drunk kids had put it together. Boards weren't evenly spaced and it was crooked and not flush to the ground. Some parts had nails where they were barely held into the boards and they were separating already after only a couple weeks. I think they drove up to the local 7-11 and picked up random guys to put the fence together. Not a one of them spoke English as well. Foreman was supposed to, but was he ever there ? I have no idea. It nearly took a letter to the CEO to get it "corrected" and even that was a loose term at best. The boards started separating and warping again and we were told - oh the "warranty" only covers a year from contract date.. Nice... I will NEVER EVER use them for fencing again. Shoddy crappy work done by people who had no desire to do a quality job the first time. Materials were shoddy as well. My neighbors had another fence company do their work and paid about half what I did and their fence still looks beautiful while mine.. well.. let's just say, no one will be asking me who did my fencing unless they want to make sure they know who NOT to use..
driveway gate
I contracted for a wrought iron driveway gate anchored to 6-foot tall brick columns. All the work was done by nameless subcontractors whom I did not approve. The bricklayers took 5 days to do a 1-day job. They used substandard mortar with excessive gaps between bricks. The partial bricks were simply broken to approximate size instead of being cut to fit...
Read full review of Long FenceBe careful with contracts!
Like the others, I hired Long Fence because they are a large company and I thought I would get professional high quality service. I hired them for 3 jobs on 3 contracts - fence, deck and patio/driveway for my DC rowhouse.
All signed in June/July 2007 and I am still waiting for the patio to be done correctly. The fence was okay although didn't meet spec. I was supposed to have an arched gate not a flat gate. The deck was done twice I think. The first time they installed it with wood posts despite the fact that the contract said iron posts. It took 4 weeks for the issue to be resolved after several phone calls and them finally admitting to the mistake. While on vacation the repairs were made. We noticed that several boards on the deck must have been removed and replaced since the boards do not sit as flush as they did the first time.
The patio is the disaster. I wanted a patio/driveway combo where I could park my car if I needed to get it off the street. Most of the time we would use the area as a patio. So I wanted it level and the contract says to make the patio at "alley elevation" with "step down" and "retaining wall". Well they installed the driveway/patio on a slope. Long Fence denies the wording of the contract, the sales rep has failed to be honest about the intent of the wording. Despite the fact that I am a 4 times repeat customer Long Fence seems to think I am trying to deceive them rather than work with me to fix the problem. So now I am waiting and waiting for Long Fence to reevaluate the situation and propose a solution.
Like everyone else I am sick of calling and calling and calling. My sales rep was Larry Enten -- be careful with contracts written by him. Make sure you can read the contract and that it says exactly what you want. Vicky in customer service is okay but her attitude is the customer is wrong. She doesn't return phone calls well at all.
Maybe I can write back later with a happy ending to this.
So let me start by naming names. My sales/site survey guy is Nick F. his boss is Berry K. and Berry K's boos is Mike R. They all display poor customer service. Now that we have established who these guys are let's begin. Ok so I was scheduled fro a site survey but Nick didn't show. So I called him and he forgot. Ok no problem things happen, so we rescheduled. When the time came for my survey Nick asked me could I push him up earlier (RED FLAG). So I agreed to push our time up because I was excited to finally get this done. When we met he told me I had to change my neighbor's gate because we shared a fence. I agreed and I told him that I was an 8 ft fence. He told me that I should be ok with a 6ft so I said give me an estimate for both. Ok so 3 weeks past with no update so I called him. He said he has the estimate but not on him and that he would get back to me. 4 days past still no word from Nick! So I called him and he apologized and said that he will call me back with the estimate which he finally did. So during that conversation I decided to go with the 6ft fence and set up an date for the first payment. We agreed on a date and time and ended the conversation. Now here is where I should have said goodbye to the agreement. So the date comes up for me tm meet and pay him and HE NEVER SHOWS! So I call his boss Berry and said I am not going to beg you guys to take my money. He apologized and ensured me Nick would handle this and that he was reliable. Now guess who calls? You got it Nick. He apologizes again and we set a date and time to meet again which he kept. Now here comes the installation issue. So the guys show up but I wasn't home and I didn't think I need to be because they just needed access to the back yard. Well come to find out they also need to use my power WTF! So I rescheduled and took time off of work so these guys can use my power. Now during the installation I notice that a certain area was not being covered so I asked the installation guy what was up and he told me he is following the measurements for the site survey guy (Nick). Here we go again so I contact Berry which in turn he contacted Nick. I guess he was passing me along because he didn't want to personally deal with me. So Nick shows up and asked the guys to correct the mistake but guess what? They only have enough materials to complete this job based on Nicks measurements AGAIN WTF! So Nick had them pre drill the holes for the installation and he told me that they will return with the material. A Week past and still no word from Nick or Berry. So I call Berry and explained to him that this is unacceptable. He apologized again and told me Nick would get back to me. So Nick called me later that day and wanted me to meet him so that we can get this sorted out. When I meet him he hands me a contract with a bill for $200 by this time I am fuming. I refuse to sign and asked for his boss's boss which he told me his name was Mike. I called Mike and he was in disbelief meaning he didn't believe that Nick mad a mistake and that I was making this stuff up. Finally I got him to believe me and got a call from Berry which in turn lead him to the same conclusion that I am making this up. So after sending him pictures of the installation he finally believed me and told me that they will swallow the cost and that he will contact me next week with an install date and this is where we are at today. I will be contacting a lawyer about this.
I’m currently being threatened with litigation from long, Would you like to forward your attorneys info to me? I’m looking into starting a class action suit against long and put this company out of business so they can no longer terrorize consumers. Thanks,

I have a Long Fence patio that has been nothing but trouble. Long Fence came an repaired it once and then when the problem occurred again, they told me that I would have to pay for them to fix it again. The reason that I got the patio in the first place is because the salesman told me that it would be there for life, so he wouldn't recommend that I install the decking that I wanted to install. My house sits on a hill and the ground washes away. I asked for a deck so that it would be off of the ground; but was sold a patio. Well now it is loose and dangerous. I am going to repair it myself and show Long Fence how a girl does it.
Installers cut the irrigation system pipe and refuse to pay repair costs.
I contracted to have a fence built by Long fence. They told me that they would contact me and let me know when the job will start. To this day, 3 weeks later, I have yet to hear from them. I want to warn you, while I still try to get a fence built, do not use these people. They have NO people skills. They will tell you ANYTHING to get the sale. We have contacted them twice and each time they tell us the fence will be finished by a certain date, Those dates come and go with not one single call from the company. DO NOT USE LONG FENCE. DO NOT USE LONG FENCE. I hope that, what we are going, does not happen to you.
I work for Long Fence and Home and wanted to share some real customer feedback we've received recently:
• Dorothy S. from Great Falls, Virginia said:
“Salesman was very explicit and thorough in his demonstration of the windows. Very persuasive indeed. Good personality. Friendly and patient… So far no problem with the installed windows. Will do business with you again.”
• Barbara G. from Laurel, Maryland said:
“This serves as a compliment to your staff and the quality of work recently done to my kitchen cabinets and counter tops. Let me first say that I was very impressed with the professionalism, patience, and knowledge of the products that were offered to me. The sales representative was very detailed and specific during his presentation, I never felt like he was after a sale. The presentation made me want to remodel at this time…The installers did an excellent job cleaning up after the job was done. However, what most impressed me was the job was done less than the estimated time. I am extremely pleased with the work done to my kitchen. I will definitely recommend Long Fence and Home to family, friends, and co-workers. I also plan to get windows and doors from Long fence and home at a later date. ”
• Ignatius P. from Clinton, Maryland said:
“The installers arrived before time (which was a plus). They were professional and courteous and got the job done when they said they would do it. They explained how the product worked and advised I could contact the office at any time if something went wrong or were to happen. I must say that I was a bit leery seeing we had other contractors come in to do what was supposed to be a professional job but Long Fence and home out them all to shame. We love our new windows and have already recommended the product to family and friends. Thanks for setting such a high bar in customer service and satisfaction.”
• Nancy E. from Reston Virginia said:
“My experience with Long Kitchens was incredible. From the design consultant to the installers the selection, installation, and cleanup was superb. All work was done absolutely on schedule with no surprises anywhere in the process. The quality of the oak cabinets, countertop, sink and faucet was better than I expected for the price. And I can’t say enough about the “face” of Long Kitchens….your people. They were pleasant, friendly, absolutely professional, and willing to do little extras such as raising my counters an inch to conform with existing appliances. Just a pleasure to do business with your company”
• Catherine B. from Arlington, Virginia, said:
“I was very impressed and pleased with the entire process. On the same day I called to check on the status of my broken window. The salesperson came by on the evening (worked with my schedule). He is smart, articulate, pleasant, knowledgeable and not pushy. I loved the doors he showed me. He did not pressure me...Did a fabulous job installing my door. I'm happy. Thanks.”
• Jaheen T. from Crofton, Maryland said:
“Great experience from start to finish. From our first meeting to the clean-up of the installation team it was a pleasurable experience. Our windows have helped to make our home a cocoon protected from the outside world.”
Took forever, still not right, I gave up!
I hired Long Fence (Ijamsville, MD 301.428.9040) to repair an existing Long fence. We have stockade (privacy) fence on three sides and split rail on the back, facing woods.
1. Sales experience was professional and I gave them a 1/3 deposit. Installers were supposed to contact me to agree on the location of new gate in rear split rail fence, replace 6 rotten rails, replace 10 broken pickets, and replace stockade gate (which was warped). Note that there was an existing split rail gate that was chained closed because it opens into a swimming pool area.
2. Installers did not contact us and came while we were on vacation. They replaced the old split rail gate instead of installing a new one, replaced six adjacent rails but not the rotten ones, and installed pickets that were a half inch more narrow than the existing ones (so much for a privacy fence). They did install the new stockade gate, but did not reinstall the existing self-closing spring. The stockade gate does not close properly.
3. I met a supervisor before work and pointed out the issues. Nothing happened for a couple of weeks.
4. After repeated unreturned calls to the installation supervisor, Rob Phillips, I complained to the sales guy, Scott Osvald, that I wanted my deposit back. Magically, the installation manager called the same day.
5. A crew came out and installed the rails and the self-closing spring while I was there. They did not have the correct stockade pickets or the post necessary to install the new split rail gate, and seemed totally unaware of the issues. After they left, I spray painted the location for the new gate on the existing rails.
6. A crew came out and installed the correct pickets and new split rail gate. Unfortunately, the new gate only opens 90 degrees, rather than 180 degrees like the existing one (in the pool area before they mistakenly replaced it) and like our neighbors' does.
7. Two more messages to the installation manager were not returned. Apparently Long Fence was not interested in resolving the problem or even in collecting the extension cord the installers had left behind.
8. Around this time I received two calls from Wendy, asking for payment. I explained that I would be glad to pay once the job was completed correctly. She was argumentative and unpleasant, but arranged for the supervisor to come back.
9. I met the supervisor again and showed him the problem with the split rail gate. He looked at it but could not offer any suggestions and said that the new gates were designed differently and that's how they work. I told him I was not happy but paid the balance on the account because I was so fed up with the situation.
10. I have contacted my neighbors' company to supply a split rail gate like theirs, that opens all the way. I left a message for Wendy asking Long Fence to buy back the unsatisfactory split rail gate and to set up a service appointment to realign the stockade gate. I do not expect to hear from them now that they have my money, but there's always a chance that someone cares enough about Long Fence's reputation to try to make me happy. Ha.
Throughout this two month ordeal, 7/28/07 - 9/26/07, I have had to take time off from work several times. I'm an hourly consultant, so this was not insignificant. My phone calls were routinely ignored. I would not recommend using this company for anything, even a repair.
Why on Earth would you pay them in full just because you were "fed up" with the situation? Did that make it any better? You were dissatisfied yet you paid in full... Shame on you for feeding their arrogance.
Poor construction and customer service!
I contracted to have a $20,000 privacy fence and electric iron gate installed September 30,2006. It took Long Fence four months to complete the job. The result was very poor. My closed picket sections have the pickets butt up against the main post on one side of many sections and a large gap of 2-3 inches on the other. My privacy fence with Lattice work was severely shorted to sections as small as 4ft 11 inches when a normal section is about eight feet. The iron gate for my driveway was installed crooked. There's a gap of 2 1/4" between the main post and top of the gate and a gap of 2 3/4" between the main post and the bottom of the gate on one side. Long Fence has refused to return my calls. The President, Mike Ritter, has ignored my registered/certified letter asking him to acknowledge my letter in writing within ten working days. This was not done. I am in the process of going through the BBB and Maryland Home Improvement Commission for satisfaction. Long Fence has been a big disappointment.
As potential customers seeking information about a company, we are not automatically impressed by one short list of glowing reviews from customers who did not receive a botched job or or who were treate with honesty and respect. Even the worse companies with the most disreputable organzational culture may employ a select few workers who care about providing quality service. The frequency and type of complaints against a company are more inducive of what one can expect when dealing with a particular company. There are many disatisfied customers on this site (and multiple others) with legitimate negative reviews of your company. Are you suggesting through this list that they are making their experiences up?
Consumers want truth. We want a company that strives for excellence and integrity in ALL its transactions. We care about how a company performs as a general rule, not in their ability to generate some positive reviews. Case in point, I received quality work and wonderful customer service from Long Fence and Home some years ago during my fence installation. This prompted me to contact them again for my new window installation needs. My two experiences were with the same company, but were as different as night and day.
I've never experienced such high pressure (bordering on abusive) sales techniques. I initiated my second contact by scheduling a consultation. During that meeting, I disclosed that I intended to pay in cash through an upcoming source of funds dedicated for home improvement. I also made it clear that I would not be pressured into using ANY form of credit. When a sales supervisor was informed that I needed to postpone installation for at least another 6-12 months, he spent over half an hour on the phone attempting to coerce me into spending money that I kept reiterating I didn't have. He tried to pressure me into purchasing $9000 worth of windows within two weeks with promises of discounts, tax breaks, and repeated suggestions to go into debt using credit. I patiently explained that I had mistakenly assumed I was immediately coming into a windfall of cash flow that now wouldn't be available until next year. He then tried to convince me that I was obligated by a contract which I never signed. being a contract officer myself, I gently reminded him that a consultation is not an obligation, but a fact finding endeavor. When those ploys didn't work, he threatened me with being responsible for him possibly firing the salesperson who did my consultation. I mean, who does that? What horrific customer service!
I was happy with the terms and products offered during my consultation. I expressed that I was quite willing to choose Long and Fence for windows installation when funds became available. A company with integrity would have seen the wisdom in keeping me as a future customer. But because of the terrible customer service from this sales supervisor, I will now seek future service elsewhere! In addition, I am online offering my warning complaints to assist unsuspecting consumers in making a fully informed decision about this company. Employee responses like yours annoy me because they show a callous insensitivity and lack of genuine desire to ensure true customer satisfaction. Who cares if Ignatius P. from Clinton had a lovely experience? That's as irrelevant to me now as the fact that I once had a positive experience with your company. The inconsistency reveals that the "Long and Fence" brand cannot be fully trusted to provide quality service.
As a representative of Long and Fence, you should spend less time attempting to "spin" the company's reputation and more time doing what is needful to avoid the many complaints against your various branches. Your focus should be on CORRECTING the issues that your dissatisfied customers are revealing, rather than on boasting about what you believe you’re doing right. That is how a company with integrity maintains a well deserved positive reputation. Your placing those positive reviews doesn't "magically" make null and void the MANY complaints against your company I've discovered all over the Net. So, thank you for your small list of reviews from satisfied customers—though we can't verify its authenticity. That means nothing to me or to the other highly dissatisfied Long and Fence customers. Our experiences are just as valid, so we feel a MORAL obligation to share them.

Ignatius P. from Clinton, Maryland said: “The installers arrived before time (which was a plus).
Nancy E. from Reston Virginia said: “My experience with Long Kitchens was incredible.
Catherine B. from Arlington, Virginia, said: “I was very impressed and pleased with the entire process. On the same day I called to check on the status of my broken window. The salesperson came by on the evening (worked with my schedule). He is smart, articulate, pleasant, knowledgeable and not pushy. I loved the doors he showed me. He did not pressure me...Did a fabulous job installing my door. I'm happy. Thanks.”
Jaheen T. from Crofton, Maryland said: “Great experience from start to finish. From our first meeting to the clean-up of the installation team it was a pleasurable experience. Our windows have helped to make our home a cocoon protected from the outside world.”
Inefficiency / Unprofessionals / Poor customer relations
Despite reading many negative reviews on Long Fence (Chantilly, VA), we hired them to install a TREX privacy fence (At present, they are the only authorized installers in the area of this particular fence). Our estimator was extremely aloof when measuring our property and when we finally received the contract, there were small discrepancies. Still, we felt...

I hired Long Fence of Capitol Heights, MD to put a 7-foot privacy fence around my backyard. Unbeknown st to me, they put the fence inside my property line, giving my neighbors one foot of my property. For some dumb reason, I hired them again to put a fence around my front yard. This time, after I had paid them in full, they claimed I still owed them $150 for a permit, which was not detailed on the contract. After several attempts to correct this error, they sent my account to collections. I paid the $150 and vowed to them that I would let everyone know to stay away from Long Fence. I guess the old adage of fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me is true. I should never have hired them again.
I"m have the same types of problems. I signed 3 contracts with them in July and we are still working on the last one. Ugh. The quality of work is not so great. The management team has no interest in customer satisfaction. The sales rep did a poor job on the contract job description and then did not have the professionalism to admit to the issue.
This has been a nightmare, a long nightmare
My experience with Long Kitchens (also known as Long Fence). James from Long Kitchens came to our house. He wasn't prepared. He didn't have all counter top or cabinet samples with him. I should've shown him the door, but didn't b/c we were promised a $500 discount over the $750 promotion if we had them come out during the week before 5 pm. My husband had already taken off work to be there, so we couldn't reschedule.
He measured, told us the cost of our kitchen. We talked it over and agreed to go with them as he apologized for not being prepared and told us the kitchen would be done to our satisfaction, and we would not have to pay until such time. We were also told our kitchen would take "apx 3-5 days" to complete, which was basically the selling point.
They sent another guy out with James several days later (his supervisor) to "remeasure" and said our cabinets would be in in a few weeks. I said "wait a minute, James told me it would be FINISHED in 3-5 days!". At that point the supervisor glared at James. He said no, to "be prepared to be without a kitchen for at least two weeks". Had I not put down a $6000 dep and was past the cancellation date, I would have cancelled. We were told that the cabinets would be in in about a month.
After weeks past that time, and many phone calls from me and being told "oh the cabinet makers are so busy that they can't fulfill all orders on time", they began installation, after sending out yet 2 more employees to remeasure. After the cabinets were completed (the installers were excellent and perfectionists. They also informed me that Long Kitchens overcharges and that they, the installers, make very little comparatively).
A few days later, enter another measure guy. He brings out a high tech laser measure on a tripod connected to a laptop and so on, and spends a good deal of time measuring. After he is done he asks me to sign the form agreeing to his measurements. But his Laptop "is not working correctly", so I cannot read what I'm signing. I reminded him to be sure the backsplash comes all the way to the edge of the wall. He said it would. Well, when installed, 2 weeks later, it did not reach the end of the wall. I immediately contacted Long Kitchens. They asked if I signed the paperwork when the measurer came out (which one?). I said yes, but that since I had NO WAY of knowing if the measurements were correct (I don't own a high-tech laser measure and if I did, would not know how to work it and they had 4 different measurement times)and that I told him my wishes about the back splash. They asked did I tell the countertop installers it was done incorrectly. Yes, and they said "talk to Long Kitchen". Long asked that I email pictures to the counter top people to show that it was not finished. I did and heard nothing.
Then I get a call from Long wanting their money. I tell them the counter top co. never contacted me to fix this and they would've know this had they bothered to do a customer satisfaction call. They ask me to email them the pics instead. I do.
Then I got a letter from their collection dept b/c I had not paid the rest of my bill. I called them and they said not to worry that it would be fixed to my satisfaction. Several weeks later I get a call from them. First words out of their mouths were basically "wheres our money?". I then went through the long story with this guy (who already really knew the story). I told him they were not getting a dime until they finished the job. I also informed them that I was not given a discount (I had previously discussed this with them before) as was advertised, and I still have that flyer, for the 750 off and the additional 500 off for the time the appointment was scheduled. He then told me "oh, thats only if we didn't give you any discounts on your order at the estimate with James." First I'd heard of this. And he wouldn't discuss the 500, saying that they were loosing money on our kitchen order, that we were basically getting it "at cost", that it was "under estimated", and they just couldn't give me the advertised discounts. And was I sure that I wanted to have the counter extended, as that wasn't really "how its done" and that I should peel off my new wallpaper and go to Macy's to the "eye-shadow makeup dept" and ask to see earth tone colors to use as paint ideas since wallpaper really isn't "in". Huh? I ignored his sexist comment and told him that i liked my new wallpaper just fine and wanted the counter top done the way it was told to me that it would be. I tell him they will not get any money until that time.
At this date, I'm still waiting for it to be fixed. This has been a nightmare. A Long nightmare.

Have read the above complaints about Long Kitchens, and though some points may be valid about the company, I wanted to make a point to let people know about the outstanding work that was done by one of their employees, Bob the plumber was polite, efficient and went the extra mile to make certain that the job was done correctly. I hope the company appreciates the extra effort he puts in to his work to satisfy the customers.
Elizabeth B. from Huntingtown, Maryland says:
Signed loan paperwork which explicitly said the contract was void if loan was not approved. Loan was not approved. Brought more paperwork with higher interest rate. Did not sign. Brought more paperwork with higher interest rate but with 90 day grace period. Did not sign.
Long Fence and Home salesman promised the return of our deposit since the original loan did not go through.
Long Fence and Home representative says no refund unless cancellation paperwork is signed.
Hmmm... the cancellation paperwork for a loan that wasn't approved? Or the cancellation paperwork for the loan we never agreed to?
Funny--after Long Fence & Home called me and DEMANDED that I remove my complaint and I refused, these so called positive comments from so called customers with only an initial for their last names were posted under my complaint. I smell a rat.

“Salesman was very explicit and thorough in his demonstration of the windows. Very persuasive indeed. Good personality. Friendly and patient… So far no problem with the installed windows. Will do business with you again.”

It is disturbing to hear such negative comments; the company is a huge contractor completing, from what I know of them, 25, 000 projects per year.
If a company does 100, 000 projects over 4 years and has 101 complaints...and another company completes 1, 000 projects with 12 complaints, would any math majors like to point out which company has a better record.
Obviously the people above have legit complaints but for people to generalize about a company that has a strong brand name with a longstanding reputation is just sour grapes - especially from a compeitior.
As far a subcontractors, every major contractor in this area uses subs. Go buy a pool...the whole job is subcontractors.
The strength is their brand.

Unfortunately, Long Fence's only strength is their marketing. Most every customer is disappointed when they find out that Long Fence only hires the cheapest subcontractor, without even a background check, to complete their jobs for them. Profit is much more important to Long Fence than a satisfied customer. Their motto is that most people only buy a fence, deck or sunroom once in their lives. Therefore, they are not interested in developing loyal customers with things like quality work and fair prices.
Forgive me for saying this because I do sympathize with your situation... Long Fence (and all their ventures) hurt ALL of us in the remodeling business. However, did you not check their BBB record? 101 complaints in 3 years? I don't care how many jobs you do, that's a ridiculous number of complaints. I don't know how Long Fence stays in business. I have NEVER heard one good thing about them yet people sign contracts with them all day, every day. I don't get it.
I've had a very similar experience with the Long Fence Deck staff. I received a demand letter from a collection agent over the weekend. I plan to hire an attorney and sue Long Fence for breach of contract. They fastened a deck to my house even though we agreed in the contract for a free standing deck and I informed them the builder explicitedly stated that a deck shouldn't be fastened to the deck.
The sales person who sold us the deck told us that Long Fence has their on trained staff which was a crock. They hire contractors and our contract staff couldn't understand me when I told them not to fasten the deck to the house. They did a terrible job and no one has come back to fix the work.
I think I'll start generating some letters to the local better business bureau and some other places that will get some negative publicity for Long Fence regarding their business practices.
