I recently purchased a new maytag centennial washer and dryer, this is, by far, the worst washing machine i have ever owned. The only difference in the clothes from when they go in until they comne out is that they are wet, not clean, just wet! This washer is 6 weeks old. Today i took my clothes to a laundromat just to be sure it wasn't my imagination, and for the first time in 6 weeks my clothes are clean! Little stains that my previous, 10 year old, washer got out easily do not even fade in this washer, even when stain treated. It also chooses the amount of water necessary for that load. It is barely enough to get the clothes wet! I have to stand there and keep opening the top so that it will add more water. I hate this thing. Do not buy it if you are looking for good value for your hard earned money.

I purchased two Maytag Centennial washers - one for my mother-in-aw for Christmas, 2013 and one for my son's apartment. Both have quit working. Both have been replaced. I will NEVER buy a Maytag of any sort again.

I purchased my Centennial washer just over a year ago, yes I am out of warranty, won't wash fills up with water and than unlocks the lid and sits with the lock lid light blinking, turn it off, turn it on and than it drains with water, won't go to the rinse or spin cycle, must unplug it, manually change it to rinse/spin, plug it back in and than it blinks lid locked at me forever, but turn the lick button off and than turn on and maybe it will rinse my clothes. Forget spinning my clothes out, I have to wring them out by hand. I hate this machine. This is the biggest POS ever. I bought it, because it was a Maytag, my last washer, also a Maytag lasted forever. I won't be replacing this with a Maytag or any related brand.

If you are contemplating buying a new washer DO NOT buy a MAYTAG! I recently did and I honestly get physically sick to my stomach every time I have to do a tub load of wash! Here is the reason why:
I purchased a MAYTAG CENTENNIAL washer from David's Appliance in Edmond, OK, in Feb.2014. I should have known something was up when the installer told me "the best thing to do is to just close the door on the wash, start the machine and leave the utility room immediately. Don't return to the room until the washer has completed its cycle."
The wash cycle takes from TWO AND A HALF TO THREE HOURS to complete! Who has time for that? And the clothes are not clean when its finished! Furthermore, the machine sets the water level automatically. I cannot change this, or add more water if there is not enough. The water level is NEVER enough to clean the clothes or even cover them. Sometimes clothing articles are completely dry at the end of the cycle. The water level has not even come to the top of the clothes!
If I want to stop the cycle and add a piece of clothing to the washer, the washer immediately drains what water is in it, draining away the detergent, bleach, pre-treat and anything else I have added. There is no way to stop this from draining everything out. Then I have to add new detergent, etc., then try to start the washer again. Usually it will go on to rinse at this point instead of wash. Then I must wait for two hours for the washer to complete the cycle so that I can add AGAIN the detergent, bleach, etc., start the washer again, and WAIT ANOTHER 3 HOURS for the machine to stop. The person I contacted at David's Appliance to question about this told me I should just hold that piece of clothing that I wanted to add until the next tub load!
Now I have used up about 5 OR 6 HOURS and all of my patience for one wash load to get done. So, with this washer I can expect to be able to do about one tub load of clothes a day. And the clothes are still not clean. I certainly feel sorry for the young mothers with several little children and lots of wash who have mistakenly bought this machine!
Forget selecting the water temperature also. The machine supposedly 'senses' what water temp is needed and adds accordingly. Another bunch of BS. If I want to wash clothes in cold water, I do not want any hot water added to that. The machine does this on its own!
Also, don't expect to be able to soak clothing in the machine before you start the wash cycle. The machine will not hold the water in if you stop the cycle to soak. After about two minutes the machine will drain the water out!
I cannot believe that Maytag would let an appliance like this out on the market, and no reputable store would ever sell it! It has so many problems that the ONLY THING it is good for is the METAL RECYCLING DUMP!
Maytag and David's Appliance should be ashamed of themselves for selling something like this machine.

I absolutely hate my Maytag Centennial Washer also. I bought mine at HH Gregg and the lady told me how wonderful they are without the agitator. I feel that I have wasted my money on a piece of junk. You can't open the door without pushing the sensor button every time. It doesn't use enough water either and my clothes almost ALWAYS look like they haven't been washed. This is the WORST machine I have ever bought. I used to love Maytag washers but since they came out with this new one, it is nothing but a waste of my money ! Maybe if enough people complain to the better business bureau about these new washers, we can all get a new one out of the deal with an agitator that Cleans.

We bought this washer and dryer combo a year ago at Lowes and can't believe what a company like Maytag is thinking. Our washer sounds like were grinding metal in it and we are now having to go to the laundromat to wash are familys clothes. I am now talking to our states attorney general to come up with a way to resolve this problem, a washer is meant to give you years of service before breaking down.
To tell you the truth if we band together and tell them were not going to take this we will win . But if we sit here and take this we let them win.I guess when the Maytag repairman died it all went to pot. Call your states reps and let them know this is not right to let them off the hook they should be held accountable. Rick M in N.M.

My parents bought my washer/dryer pair for me as an early holiday present and I was really excited since I started out with a 40 year old set that couldn't do very large loads. They highly recommended the set as they have a couple model years older and hadn't had any issues with theirs that they'd mentioned. The washer started acting oddly about two months ago, but I though I just wasn't paying attention to it correctly or something. Six days ago, the spinner went out. Clothes still sopping wet after a washing, and must be manually placed on "drain and spin." Three days ago, that fix stopped working. Did some research, thought the actuator might be the bad piece, but it looks like it's the sodding computer board. I'm frustrated because I didn't have the money for an extended warranty and my folks didn't pay for it as they hadn't had issues with their model. My husband and I are pretty handy, but I just want the stupid thing to wash my clothes without worrying about having them dry enough to put in the dryer. If I end up needing to replace it, believe you me, I won't purchase another Maytag.

Having found this busy website, my wife feels vindicated. We concur with all the comments about water level and dirty clothes problems. We object to being hoodwinked in the name of saving water. And we will add another complaint. Washing machines, once upon a time, had traps for lint, hair, etc which could be emptied and/or cleaned. This machine is not so equipped, meaning that most of the lint or hair on the clothing, if removed, is re-deposited on the (already poorly washed) clothing. The problem with water levels is that the water level switch works on a vacuum created by the water level in the machine, and the switch is not adjustable. The machine's design "assumes" that the level of vacuum which stops the water entering the machine indicates sufficient water to wash the size of the load in the machine. Opening the top resets the switch and starts the water flow again-but it usually requires 2 or more re-openings to get a full load of water. Quite aside from quality and reliability issues, the use of the vacuum switch concept is a design deficiency. Only an optical switch can reliably determine the size of a load and the amount of water needed to wash it--and reducing my wife to the status of an optical switch is a poor use of resources. Saving water is all well and good, but this is poor design, poorly executed.

All washers are a joke thanks to the EPA. They force ALL the companys to produce "water savers" and "power savers". They make them try to design machines that work with less water. That will never work. That's why they don't work right. New toilets are the same way. Buy one and see. The EPA madates that all companys make toilets that use less water. That's why there are thousands of complaints about them. Just like all these washers. EPA needs to go! They create problems only to come up with the solutions!

I hate water sensor washing machines. never enough water to get the smell and dirt out of these clothes. Must have been a city person invent them. Texas needs the old machines back.

We have had the Maytag centennial for 2 yrs now and we have tried everything we can think of but we still get a white film on our dark clothes. This has been the most frustrating thing because you have to rinse them again just to get the film off. I have been very disappointed with this machine.

I agree with the comments regarding this washing machine. Our clothes smell, are dirty and stained. The cost of purchasing new clothes, because this machine can't keep what we have clean, is absurd. Has anyone found a fix for this?

I bought the Maytag Centennial--It eats up my towels. They come out with rips and tears. I have had to take about 20 towels and shred them into rags for cleaning because the machine keeps destroying them. I cannot afford right now to buy another washing machine. By the
way--these were excellent quality towels--sell for$12.00 apiece at Macy's.

So, we bought our Maytag Centennial Commercial washer because it is being used in a commercial setting. IE: hair salon. One month into its use it is acting up. It won't start, or complete a wash cycle. We had to bring home three loads of towels to wash and dry so that the salon can operate today. If I had checked on line before purchasing the washer I wouldn't have bought it. Has anyone had any success with Maytag in getting this problem machine replaced with a better model?

I am so unhappy with this washer machine..after owning a kenmore washer for 24 years i thought i was upgrading..none of my clothes are clean. I put a pair of jeans in folded into thirds and they came out the exact same shape with lint in between..the downey ball stays full of softener and i have had to rewash and rerinse every load..so much for saving water..my whites are the worst they have ever been and i have raised 2 boys in baseball and husband in construction..if we want our clothes clean we have to take them to laundry mat..i could just cry.

This is my first Maytag and I am so disappointed. After having a Whirlpool for years that still worked amazingly well when I decided to replace it with a brand new Maytag Centennial washer AND dryer from Home Depot, I am deeply frustrated and hugely disappointed with Maytag. As a single person with limited income, I saved my pennies to make this purchase. The washer has broken 3 times already since it's delivery date of 6/3/14. I plan on calling my attorney and taking Maytag to small claims court to have this resolved, since their customer service department only sends more repair people. Shame on Maytag for putting out such a piece of crap machine.

We have had our Maytag Centennial for 2 and a half years. It is now useless. For months it has been getting stuck at the sensing stage. The lid will lock and unlock and then nothing, just a sensing light. I found that if I put it on bulky I would occasionalyl get it to wash the first time I hit start. But mostly it was back to unpluggin it, pluggin it back in and hoping for the best. Sometimes my dark shirt come out of the washer and still have deoderant on them. Sometimes it will say it is done even though the clothes are sitting in inches of water. This is THE WORST washing machine. After 2 years it started acting up - TWO YEARS! Maytag should be ashamed. There will be no more Maytag purchases for me or anyone else I know.

Not a happy Maytag life owner. I have owned 4 prior Maytag washers and this Maytag Centennial has really turned me off of all Maytag products! The clothes have to be washed 2 to 3 times before they actually smell clean (they say that is energy efficient), I also wash a small load on a large load level (water saving feature), just so more water will go in (I hope, because you cant actually see). This washer is only 6 months old and I am already shopping for a new "other" brand. Sure wish i would have read this board prior to purchasing.

I agree with everything that everyone has said about this washing machine. I hate this POS and wish I had my old one back. It does not clean clothes as it should. Every load has to be washed 3 times to get most of the underarm smell out of our clothes and even then they just don't smell clean like with my old washer. Very little water is used and I just don't know how they seem to think that it's going to clean clothes and save money when you have to wash same load multiple times to get them clean. I have always had Maytag products but I won't be buying another Maytag again. When I called them they were no help what so ever. Unfortunately I am on a tight budget an have to save for a new washer but believe me, I will be buying another and it won't be a Maytag! Also, I will not be paying for a service visit to have someone tell me that I'm nuts.

This thing hasn't worked right since day one. We bought it brand new, and the thing will leave soap on the clothes, and/or the clothes half bone dry (as if no water has even touched that part - even on "deep water wash" setting), and the other half soaking wet (to the point that you have to run them through the dryer 3 times) unless we run an additional rinse & spin cycle (after the wash) and a spin & drain cycle after that. this is THE most useless washer I've ever owned (and I've picked up free washers at the side of the road before).

And now we are having the same problem as everybody else. The machine doesn't perform a full cycle. It stops around the rinse & spin. The door lock fails as does the motherboard for the function cycles of the machine. We have owned the machines for approximately 8 or 9 months now. We will find the receipt in the file and continue with the grooming process of setting things right with this problematic washer. I will also be making a lot of phone calls to consumer reports, bbb and whomever else I can get involved to get a recall or law suits against maytag.

I so totally agree with everyone on here. I have had ours for about two years. Everything was great at first. I thought since it was a Maytag I wouldn't have to worry about repairs. But oh no. Last year the problems began. First it wasn't draining, then it made a horrible sound when it started the spinning cycle. It actually turned a 180. Now the lock light stays on and I havev to unplug to reset it. It doesn't finish a wash cycle; most times it stops on the drain and rinse. I cannot believe that we all have the same problem and Maytag will not correct the problem. This machine is definitely a POS but I haven't had a problem with the dryer,

I had mine repaired under last day warranty. The guy said it is a common problem with the actuator sensor. They last between 6-12 months. I looked on line and they are about $40 and takes about 5 minutes to replace. 3 screws is all. It's on the bottom of the washer under the plastic cover.

We bought a centennial set and the outer tub has cracked twice since we bought them, now we have water in the laundry room, which we have cleaned up, now the linoleum rug is peeling up under the washer. Why would anyone put such a cheap plastic outer tubliner in a washer? We have had nothing but problems out of this washer & all anyone (salesman) can do is offer to sell us another tub liner? signed, Donna Emmons

This is the absolute worse machine and purchase I have ever made. If it didn't cost me more than $1300, I would set it on the curb and let someone else use it to get their clothes dirtier than they were before. I called the appliance dealer in Waxahachie Texas that sold me the machine and they sent someone out. He changed out a part, but doesn't make any difference. I did all the things and followed all the instructions. Sometimes it puts enough water in the tub to wash the clothes, but most times, not enough water to even wet the clothes. I have to wash the clothes and rinse them twice using twice as much water as it ever saved. What a piece of junk!

This washing machine is the worst. I have model MVWC400XW0 and purchased at home depot. I have had it four years to the date but the problems started long ago. Same as everyone else, it "senses" and doesn't spin and now it does not work at all. Called Maytag customer service and was told I could pay $333 dollars for a one year extended warranty and that would cover one (1) service call. That makes no sense to me-- as I could buy a new one for that! I paid $499 for this washing machine at Home Dep-- thinking that if I bought Maytag brand I was getting a good machine-- what a bunch of crock. Maytag has lost me as a customer. It used to be good-- I grew up with my parents' always buying the brand-- but not anymore. Adios Maytag!

I replaced my 24 year old Maytag washer with the new Bravos XL and it's the worse piece of junk I have every seen. The cloths aren't clean and my towels have to go through two washes and several rinse & spins before the soap is gone. I use the Tide He on level one. I would like to have my money back so I can purchase a good washer.

I purchased a Maytag Centennial and I agree with all the people that made a complaint...my wash doesn't come clean at all and the wash is so wrinkled I have to iron everything! I mean really wrinkled! Didn't you guys check this machine out before you put it on the market? Just horrible!

Maytag products have fallen by the wayside...I also purchased a stove, microwave and dishwasher by Maytag...the stove is the CHEAPEST piece of junk I have ever seen in a stove. It's a glass top and it got a tiny nic in the glass and my warranty covered it...would replace the top...only the top... no labor...well...labor was over 200.00...so much for the warranty? I'll put it towards a new stove...and not a Maytag!

Bought Maytag Centennial washer four years ago. Several months ago, after washing, it would trip off the breaker. I reset after each wash, and it was fine until last week. Then it refused to work. The lights stayed on, the red lid lock flashed and it smelled hot, electrically hot. I tried a "reset" procedure which did not work. I paid $600 for this machine four years ago. Where is the Maytag dependability? Besides that, it did a terrible job; like others, I found it did not wash clothes well AND took its time about it, too. You never knew how long it would run doing one load. If you had six loads to do in one day, good luck. Plus, it spun the clothes so dry, they were hopelessly wrinkled and all that wringing has to wear out your clothes.

Today i went to a used appliance place, bought an old washing machine that has been refurbished, guaranteed for 60 days. $180. No lid lock or sensors. It can't be any worse than the "new" Maytag, and might last 20 years (even 30) like washer used to. And it will do a cycle in 40 minutes or less and actually clean the clothes. I hope, I don't know what else to do--I think all the new washers are crappy. A salesman told me that with new washers, expect a service call in the first four years and to replace it in seven.

No agitator means no clean the clothes sit there and barely bump around in the water it's the most disgusting invention I've ever seen my last Maytag was wonderful this is the worst stupid piece of junk I could imagine in my worst dream stay away from Maytag they have been infected with idiots. I think Whirlpool bought them just to ruin the brand

Yes I agree do not buy this if you're looking for clean clothes the clothes just sit there they do not get scrubbed they do not get cleaned mine never worked right. The biggest waste of money in my whole life and I am over 70 shame on Whirlpool for ruining this brand those fudge Busters
