Disappointing Experience with Mc Graw Hill
As someone deeply invested in education, I was truly disappointed by my experience with Mc Graw Hill. The website was clunky and outdated, making it a struggle to access the necessary information. The textbooks provided were not up to par, lacking the depth required for effective learning. Customer service was virtually non-existent, adding to the frustration. It pains me to say that my overall experience with Mc Graw Hill was far from satisfactory. As someone who values quality education, I would advise potential customers to explore other options for their educational needs.

Connect for 14th edition of hill, international business
The interfaces do not make it easy for instructors to change due dates once students have started the homeworks/quizzes, and maintenance always seems to take place at extremely inconvenient times. Support is poor, and I have even had the regional manager for the product for Alberta has given me smart-assed lip on several occasions. Given that the textbook is a marginal contribution compared to the material I provide, Connect is more trouble than it is worth. The authors of the book obviously haven't a clue about international trade theory and evidence. In the future I will not use McGraw Hill products. I am hoping to discontinue it immediately and get my students a refund if possible. I have written my support agent to request this.
Desired outcome: Full refund for all students registered in BUEC 342 A1, A2 and A3 for fall term 2022 at the University of Alberta. In exchange, of course, all access to Connect by myself and students in this course would be ended immediately.
Buildings across Time: An Introduction to World Architecture 5th Edition
This honestly to WORST textbook I have ever had to use in a college or even high school course. It is wordy, hard to understand, extremely disorganized, and worthless. The information provided would be useful, if it could be understood. There is constant jumping around in every chapter, along with every page. As someone who struggles with ADHD, this textbook makes it impossible for me and other students trying to actually learn and retain information. It uses advanced architectural vocabulary, which would be fine if it wasn't literally and INTRODUCTION book. There is way too much to read in general, and way too much useless/irrelevant information. There is probably more irrelevant information in this book than relevant. Paragraph structure and organization is horrendous also. For example: on page 105, there are 2 different paragraph sections that both end mid paragraph, but when you flip the page to 106, there is only one paragraph continued. HOW AM I SUPPOSE TO KNOW WHICH ONE IT IS AND WHY WAS THE OTHER ONE NOT FINISHED?! This just flabbergasted me, how was this even approved to be published with that major of a mistake? You are already making students more broke by buying these books for outrageous prices, and this company can't even catch that big is a mistake? McGraw-Hill you should be ASHAMED of yourselves. Maybe change your motto to, "making learning impossible since 1888". You successfully have ruined a course for me that I was excited to take.
Desired outcome: To fix the paragraph issue on the specified pages and to review this book and how horrible the way in which the information is provided and organized.
Quality of products
On 10/25/2020, I was studying for my discrete mathematics test using LearnSmart. Over the course of an hour, I grew more and more frustrated with the services provided by McGraw Hill. I was using the self-study tool and going through the practice questions provided. At first, I noticed the rather long loading times for each individual question (cutting down on the time I was actually studying), but I was not truly upset until I got to a question about sorting.
The question asked about linear search. It wanted me to sort a series of letters. Basically, it wanted me to put letters in alphabetical order. A first grader could have done it. That kind of question does nothing for me but waste my time. I think it is spurious that I have to pay nearly $100 to put letters in alphabetical order, submit my homework, take my tests and quizzes, and pass the class.
I would attach an image of the question, but due to the format of LearnSmart, you are only allowed to look back at questions that you got wrong. Having higher than a kindergarten reading level, I of course easily placed the letters in the proper order and therefore got the correct answer, meaning that I cannot go back and demonstrate to the rest of the world just how meaningless the question is.
The fact of the matter is I payed $100 for a second-rate product that is only successful on the market because of a lack of competition and students are forced to buy it in order to pass their classes. I would like a full refund, but this is likely not going to happen, as McGraw Hill can technically argue that they provided me the service of allowing me to turn in my homework.

I'm continually having a problem where I have the correct answer to a problem in a mathematics or personal finance class, and it still counts it as wrong. It's extremely frustrating and discourages me from taking further classes if this is a part of the program. One example is it asked me a question about what the salary was, there were only two possible answers that were provided for me in a personal expense table. According to the Connect program, neither of the answers were correct.

My son is a Visually Impaired. He is a college student, taking Spanish. Your software is not VI accessible. Screenreader software will not read a drop down, or a picture. As a result, my son is almost always behind in his assignments, because he has to get student dissabilities services to read off the assignments to him. It is creating an issue, as his professors think he is just lagging behind due to laziness. This was reported to you last year, and you did nothing. It was also reported to the school, who has done nothing. I just think that, in the technological world we live in, that you can't fix this.
grading errors
I was working on one of the assignments for ECO365T on McGraw-Hill Connect and all my answers were correct. When I hit submit, the program switch some of my answers and marked them incorrect. I took pictures of all 30 questions because I was suspicious that something is wrong with the program. I opened a case with McGraw and submitted my pictures of all 30 questions answered correctly. McGraw support said that their system shows I submitted wrong and answers and closed the case.
I am so frustrated because I actually have proof and they will still not accept it. Something needs to be done about this!

Problems arose from our order in June 2017 where our order was forgotten then shipped from the USA to Sweden until their rebuke of the original invoice and conversion of US dollars to GBP.
Attached are email strands and original invoice (which was paid in full). In these you will be able to see that the service and information we have recieved has been confusing to say the least. The invoice was sent to us in US Dollars with US Dollars being the specifically requested currency. We understood this as the delivery was sent from the US.
Fast forward to today where we get another invoice with another outstanding amout with another amount stated in the email.
As you may be able to understand, our faith in McGraw Hill is below 0. Each phone call and email claims that we are at fault and should have known, we have misunderstood or should have even adjusted the invoice to GDP! What sort of way to treat customers and run a business is this? We are not in the business of trying to edit and change invoices nor do we infer to our customer that they are the ones at fault!
My anger and disappointment goes past anything I have ever experienced professionally.

-21st November 2017 we recieved a reminder that we owed 2825.80 Euros
-4th January, 2018: email stating, 2826.80 USD
-16th January, 2018: 2826.65 USD
-Invoice of 3171.65 USD was paid in full by us (see attached invoice)
- Emails sent by us, voicing our confusion of all the different currencies used and different amounts. Reassurance was given by McGraw Hill that we had paid in full and that we had a credit of 345 GBP.
-March 2018: We receive email stating that we paid in the wrong currency despite the invoice and reassurance that we had done everything correctly.
We were also told that we should have adjusted the invoice, that we should have known and now we are to pay the mistake that they had made.
All the while we have received statements of account where it calculates that we have a credit.
This is far from our problem or mistake. It is not our responsibility to assure the quality or communication between the US and International divisions. In any other company, this would have been resolved without us being blamed for the mistake or having it inferred that we should have know or that an invoice was actually irrelevant. It would seem that McGraw Hill is unable to take full responsibility for their mistakes and would want to keep customers. This is a very big shame as the Everyday Mathematics materials are fantastic and McGraw Hill does not do them justice. We will not be having any further dealings with McGraw Hill and will be sending a formal complaint higher up and to the developers of this program noting that this lack of accountability has lead to the loss of a willing, long term customer.
Might I add that the service we have received at every point has been sub standard and our requests to go further are not heard. You get studk with the customer service person you have even if they cannot do anything to help.
Learning system and faculty that allowed it
I was a student and I chose to quit. I am unsure as to whether or not you are all aware and all pertinent victims, that when the system is used a student can pull up the question screen and in some way by pulling up two screens, when you can match the two green buttons, you can answer the question without eveen reading it. This is fraud! All of those women in that class or most definitely cheaTED AND ARE ALL WALKING AROUND AMONGST OTHER "pros" that know not enough and as a result the health care system is in more of a downfall. I said something on fb originally. Now I have told associates at Torchmark, the 8.6 billion dollar insurance company, and now the ADA regarding a faulty "professional" that did not even read my record. I guess she may have ignored that common sense too if she is one, or maybe her teacher was one. I do not know but this system is not working for normal unknowing and knowing victim patients, like myself. It should be brought to all pertinent boards.
Poor use of stereotypes in textbooks.
Rather than using dogs in general as an example McGraw-Hill felt the need to specifically use Pit Bulls as their example in a negative manner. This only serves to reinforce a negative stereotype against breeds that are persecuted daily because of it. This is very bad form! UNM Psychology 105 Pg 336. Reword your example please to something that is not breed specific.
Get over it. Stereotypes generally fact out.
Connect and Textbook
Their services offered through the textbook and connect are just garbage. They do not teach or provide any methods on how to create a thought process or understand the material. As an education company they do a horrible job in servicing students. NONE OF YOUR MATERIAL EXPLAINS OR SUPPORTS THE CONNECT, your textbook is trash and is possibly the worst material Iv'e read due to its inability to explain simple concepts, much less explain how they tie into the connect assignments. 300$ for a textbook and software that doesn't do jackshiz? What an absolute joke, and then you force it upon students in order learn material that is poorly explained. Absolute disgrace and disappointment. I hope a company one day come about and absolutely shuts you down. Garbage company and services. Ive purchased over 1000$ in textbooks and software from 3 different universities, my entire undergraduate and now here i am in grad school dealing with the petty bullcrap of your awful services again. I hope your company burns.

Sept. 2015 I am a current Human Resources student, at Durham College in Ontario, Canada. I have been using McGraw-Hill Connect for over a year now, and have had few issues. I have purchased a few log-in codes for various courses, and most of the time, the code is included with the purchase of the required textbooks. This was supposed to be the case with my statistics textbook this semester. The list my class was given showing our options for purchasing the text and connect log-in was given to us as follows: Required: Basic Stats for Business & Economics Connect and Ebook Ces Edition: 5th Buy New: $89.00 Required: Basic Stats for Business & Economics Edition: 5th with Connect Buy New: $155.29 These options were not new to us, and some students did decide to choose the ebook edition, which comes with the connect log-in code printed on the receipt. Most of the students, however, decided to buy the actual textbook, which is supposed to come with the connect log-in code inside the book. During our first week of classes, a McGraw-Hill Connect representative came to speak with us about the connect program. During her presentation, we came to the realization that everyone that had purchased the textbook had not received the connect log-in code in their book. The representative (seemingly shocked) told us she would do what she could to solve the problem, and get back to us as soon as she could. In the mean-time, our instructor told us not to damage our books at all, just in case we had to return them. He also postponed our assignment and quiz deadlines, and showed us how to use the McGraw-Hill courtesy access, which will stay active for 2 weeks. I hadn't purchased the book yet, so a week after this, I made my way to the campus book-store to speak with someone regarding the situation. I spoke with the employee who is responsible for ordering the textbooks, and she told me that McGraw-Hill was shipping the codes to the store, and when they arrived, they would be distributed to the class instructors, who would then distribute them to the students that could provide proof of purchase. I asked her if it was risky for me to buy the textbook before the connect codes arrived (textbooks purchased without plastic wrapping cannot be returned under any circumstances, they told me), but she assured me that it wasn't a problem if I purchased the textbook because they were only shipping us the codes and not new books. I purchased the textbook, and approximately a week later, our instructor informed us that the connect codes had arrived, and we were to go to the bookstore, show our receipt for the textbook, AND PAY $10.64 FOR SHIPPING. We told him that we should not have to pay for someone else's mistake, as we had already paid for the connect access code when we purchased the textbook. He then said that if we had a problem with it, we had to complain to the bookstore. Yesterday (Sept. 30, 2015), our instructor told the class he got a complaint from the bookstore, that he sent students to the bookstore to complain. He then said that the real people to complain to was McGraw-Hill Connect. When students asked to be put in contact with the McGraw-Hill Connect representative that came to speak to our class, our instructor said he did not think it was appropriate to go through him to contact connect. As a student with very limited funds, this is a very frustrating situation. And no, $10.64 does not seem like enough money for this long complaint, but if you multiply that by approximately 50 students, it's a lot. I am confused as to how shipping 60 small cards (all at the same time), can cost so much money? Those of us that already purchased the connect access TWICE, should at least be refunded for paying for it the first time.
I had kept calling their customer service for an assignment problem and they kept redirecting my number to other departments that were closed, AND there new chat thing is so bad, they are offline every time I go to the service website. They should out more agents for the chat.
Connect for Spanish
I started using connect a few weeks ago as an adjunct profressor teaching Spanish online at a private university. This is when my nightmare began. I have taught online classes using two other purblishers' programs and yes, it is always a bit confusing at first, but using this has been a living hell both for my students and for me. It is total chaos to say the least.
I called into the university person who hired me to tell her that I will not be teaching the other half of the course (Spanish 102) due to this horror. That is when she told me, " Yes, they don't have their online program completed yet." Then please tell me why I am using it to teach a class online? To make matters worse, the university allowed a waiting list and students were signing on two weeks after it started for a seven week class.
Here is the very worst of it...when I call in for help, no one seems to be able to assist me with anything, especially with the gradebook. They tell me to go to this or that place on the computer and nothing happens. There are a zillion options to make it more confusing. There is no audio to allow students to learn pronunciation and when I tried to record on their system, I didn't download the program for that because it came up that it is dangerous to my computer! I can't believe that they actually charge students for this torture.
If you are considering using Connect for any course, I wouldn definitely read lots of reviews first, because they are all saying the same thing.
Fraudulent business
McGraw Hill Publishing sent a $59.95 subscription renewal to me. However, I read the fine print and it says "when you choose to renew or order a new subscription, " which made sense, since I am not their subscriber. $59.95 is about $45 more than the same subscription through other company.
