Hi Everyone,

I am glad to note that all those who have received such an e-mail are intelligent. No one has been taken in by such false claims of easy money.

As a rule, this statement is mostly true: "There is no such thing as a free lunch". Think about the following:

1. Why would anyone give you free cash, especially such a large amount?

2. Why would someone claiming to be from Microsoft, use a yahoo/hotmail or some other e-mail address instead of @microsoft.com?

3. It is strange that you should be informed of your "win" when you are not told anything about the competition. Who are funding this? What's the organization? What's the process by which the "winner" has been selected?

4. If you really believe you have won, check out the company organizing this. Check if it legally registered.

5. If you have really won something (unlike this bogus mail), you will be asked to come and collect it. If it's a genuine win, it is likely to be a closed competition. If its a closed competition, organizers will already have your name and address.

6. If you have really won something, they should just pay you. NEVER give ANY information. What these people are really after is all the information you can give about yourself. This is called "Identity Theft".

7. Identity theft is a nasty way of turning things against you. Once they have all your details, they can commit all sorts of crimes using your identity. They take the benefit but the risk is all yours since your identity is freely used.

I would like to reiterate that never give any personal details to strangers. No one wins free cash.

Lastly, it would be useful to see more of solutions from the public rather than just complaints in this forum. Complaints alone will make us aware of problems but will lead us nowhere. Let's take this forum one step further by providing solutions built upon everyone's experiences.

This is a scam

Its called a "419 Advance Fee Fraud" . The first large amount of people
perpetrating this scam first came from gangs of criminals in Lagos Nigeria a few years back.
It is common now to find these scams being run from Canada UK USA Netherlands ... It got to such
a state that literally millions and millions of Dollars Guildens Pounds Rand- you name it
were being scammed by these gangs. And when big brother gets burned he gets mad so in the US the FBI as well as other
US government agencies put such massive pressure on the then Nigerian Government to stop these activities that the
Nigerian government added a section in thier penal code numbered (you guessed it) 419.

There is a dedicated site on the Intenet that tries to deal with these gangs and shut down the number of sites they
run as well as phony Telephone banking sites and courier sites etc..
The London or UK telephones number givien in the samples of the scams all begin with the [protected] area
codes and these are used for forwarding calls to other countries. If you call these numbers, some of them get
a percentage of the money the telephone company makes when you pay for that call.
I have been busy with one of these guys now for a few weeks. He sent me an email that said the same thing but only for
eight hundred thousand pounds :-( I never win anytbing good.

So the first thing I do is go to Webmail.co.za or hotmail or yahoo mail and get a free email account.
I email him and am very excited and tell him I am interested and could he provide more information.
He sends an answer a few days later ant says I only got 7 days to
claim my prize or else it will be returned to the prize pool and given away again. He informs me that I must come to
London to claim the prize but because I told him I am a Priest and thus very poor I could not come to London. Because I can
not go to London, ( I told him I am in Pretoria, South Africa - not ) I could, he said, pay the fees required to get the money
transferred to my account in my own country and a lawyer would ensure that it was done correctly and legally (haha)
and ensure that all the paperwork is completed on my behalf satisfactorily.
I did say that I needed the money for an orphanage and a home for unwed mothers. (we do lots of charity). In my answer
back to him that I said I must keep this secretive because the Vicar does not approve of Lotteries and Gambling
and he would not approve of the money gained from such activities. Me, being of much more modern roots believe that the
800,000 can be put to very good use by the Church.
This scammer was located in Johannesburg South Africa. found by looking at the email header and checkin the ip address
with a free search tool on the internet called IP2Location.
He asked me to transfer 1100 uk pounds by money gram to Carol Jean at 157-197 Buckingham palace roads London sw1 9sp.
The National Audit Offices.
The Advance Fee comes in here. Pay it and you never hear form him again. For this poor Priest to get 1100 pounds I told him
I would have to take it from the coffers of the Congregations Sunday Donations. He had no qualms about that, the ###.
Most of thses emails were punctuated with the worst english I have witnessed from anyone. (note - check my spelling before posting)
"Attached is copy of my passport, I am not suppose to send this copy of passport to just because you are a Rev.Father."
I am not a Priest, just a guy having fun with my email. I am sure God will forgive me.

Well these crooks are still trying, I just got my winning information from them this today. At least it is well written. I have got others from others that can't even spell and have very poor writing skills. Perhaps they are using all the money that they are taking from people to improve their skills.

MICROSOFT ORGANISATION should do something about this scam, its surely dragging its name in the mud. Now I wonder what a reputable firm will fold its arms and watch its name being use for all sorts of 419 business, its really sad.

This is a fake mail only and I have received at least 40 mails like this. Some are from Microsoft award winning Dept,some from Sweepstakes etc. Tell them to pay custom duty required to be paid from the amount won by us and give the balance to you. They wont agree since they are fraud.

Lets be happy only thinking that I have won such a big amount as lottery.
