I been talkin' to Minnesota Energy Resources for a whole year now, every month
I been talkin' to Minnesota Energy Resources for a whole year now, every month. But dang, our bill always be messed up! It's showin' like 5-6 times more therm usage than we actually use. They fix it one month, but then it's messed up again the next. If y'all havin' the same problem, hit me up and I'll try to help ya out. This company be stealin' from us, I tell ya what.
Their customer service is terrible
Their customer service is terrible. They don't get the services, can't fix problems, don't give any answers, and are just plain mean. They told my mom (who just lost her husband) that they can't help her because the account is in her dead husband's name. They said they can't keep an account open in a dead person's name so they have to shut off the services right away. I hope they don't do that because she's selling the house. It's crazy. If I could give less than zero stars, I totally would!
My husband died in June
My husband died in June. Even though both our names were on the account, they wouldn't take his name off. They said they had to close the account and set it up again under my name. But then they said they couldn't do it "for security reasons" unless I sent them a picture of me holding my passport? And another picture holding my drivers license? I had to email it to them within a few days or I couldn't have an account there? I complained but nobody from the company ever called me. Of all the companies I had to deal with after my husband died, this was the worst.
I thought I was paying to fix my furnace/heating system if it broke
I thought I was paying to fix my furnace/heating system if it broke. The air exchanger is a big part of that system. When it stopped working, I found out that it wasn't covered by my plan. I don't know what else won't be covered, but I don't think this is a good service and I can't tell anyone to use it. When I called about the air exchanger, they set up an appointment with a technician. I had to schedule it and then the technician told me that the service I needed wasn't covered. What a waste of time. I tried to complain to the boss, but they didn't call me back. What a waste of money and time. I wish I had looked at the ratings here before I used them. They're some of the worst I've seen for a business that wants to stay open.
I was told a few months ago (April 2022) that I could pay a certain amount each month plus current charges for a year
I was told a few months ago (April 2022) that I could pay a certain amount each month plus current charges for a year. After making four payments, they cancelled the plan and charged me the entire bill again, plus late fees. I set up a new plan and was told it was okay to start it later. On 7/21/22, I made a payment as agreed (on 7/26/22). They put a lock on the gas meter on the same day. When I called customer service, they said it was their mistake and they would send someone to reconnect it the next day. I asked if they could send someone that day since it was their mistake, but after 35 minutes on hold, they said no. They said I needed to pay the whole bill and a reconnect charge before they would send someone. I called back and they said they could send someone the next day, but I would have to pay a $30 reconnect fee next month. When I asked why they couldn't send someone that day, they said they don't do same-day service. I told them that could be dangerous, especially in the winter here in Minnesota. I'm very unhappy with the way I was treated and the service I received. I wish there was another option and better communication. I wonder how many others don't complain about this for fear of retaliation.

Minnesota Energy's ServiceChoice program is a scam
Minnesota Energy's ServiceChoice program is a scam. I scheduled an AC refill twice, but the person who came refused to do it because he said it was pre-existing. I didn't know that this service needed to be done before buying their service. I found out 5-6 weeks later. This company is a joke and a scam.
I had a bad experience with Minnesota Energy Resources Corporation
I had a bad experience with Minnesota Energy Resources Corporation. During winter, they shut off my heat even though my disabled child was in the house and we were on social security. They took the meter and canceled our payment arrangement, even though we never broke it. The workers even made fun of my son, which is not right and is discrimination. They accused us of breaking the locks to the meter, but we never did. Now, our bill is almost $4000. We had to use propane heaters all winter and still have no gas. Maybe getting a lawyer or contacting the senator is the way to go.
Our gas got cut off on 9.7.21, but we didn't notice until 9.18.21 because we were doing a bathroom remodel and not using hot water
Our gas got cut off on 9.7.21, but we didn't notice until 9.18.21 because we were doing a bathroom remodel and not using hot water. We called on 8.16.21 and made a payment and set up payment plans. The payment posted on 8.17.21. When we called on 9.18.21, we set up an account in my name to manage the billing. They told me to make a payment of 500, which I did. I called back to get service restored and was told an additional payment of 400 was due. I made that payment and called back, only to find out that the payment needed to be canceled because it was on the old account, as was the first payment. I called back on 9.19.20 and was told that the disconnect was an error on MN energy's end and that it would be fixed, and service would be restored after they spoke to a supervisor. I called back again, only to find out that an investigation into the disconnect would have to be done, and they are unsure of a reconnect date.

I had a deal with Minnesota Energy Resources Corporation for $111 on August 30th
I had a deal with Minnesota Energy Resources Corporation for $111 on August 30th. I called them and asked to extend it until today and they said yes. They told me that if I didn't pay today, they couldn't help me anymore. I was at work when my kids called me at 10 am and said they were disconnecting it. So, I went to their website and paid $300 instead of $111 because I want to lower my bill as soon as possible. They didn't mention that I had to pay before 10 am. If they had told me, I would have paid before I went to work. They never informed me of the time frame. I assumed I had until the end of the business day like most companies. I offered to pay the additional $50 disconnect and reconnect fee and asked for a one-time courtesy, but they refused. I have never asked them for help, never disconnected in 3 years, and never paid late. So, why can't they help me just this once, especially since I'm trying to get back to work because of COVID and their website gives false information?
I got a plan with Minnesota Energy
I got a plan with Minnesota Energy. 4 weeks ago, someone came to fix my oven. After 3 days, it broke again. I called Minnesota Energy and made an appointment for June 18. I had no choice but to wait. I haven't had a working oven in over a month. Today is June 18, I took today off from work, because they were supposed to be here today to fix my oven. Yet they have no record of my appointment. But their system has plenty of notes stating otherwise. I took today off to get my oven fixed, I have no more time off until after the 4th of July. At that point, I wouldn't have had a working oven in over two months. I have had the platinum plus service plan for over 11 years and I can't believe they are treating a valued customer like this. I don't have an oven to feed my children, and I have no idea when they will come out and fix my oven because no one has bothered to call me back.
I started using Minnesota Energy and gave them a different billing address, but they kept sending bills to the service address
I started using Minnesota Energy and gave them a different billing address, but they kept sending bills to the service address. This happened multiple times and now, after almost 2 years, my accounts have been sent to collections. It's frustrating because they have my billing address and cell phone number on file for my other 20 accounts. They didn't try to contact me before sending my accounts to collections, which damaged my credit. They have fixed my credit in the past, but it took hours on the phone and getting the MN attorney general involved. Recently, they couldn't find the initial phone call and said it was lost. In the past, they admitted to having the phone call but wouldn't give it to me without a court subpoena. I'm also out the cost of the gas bill because I manage properties that I don't own and need to submit the bill for reimbursement within 60 days. But since the bill wasn't sent on time, I can't get reimbursed.
Our company has many facilities, so we have many accounts with Minnesota Energy
Our company has many facilities, so we have many accounts with Minnesota Energy. We pay every month and attach the remittance slips to the check. The checks always get messed up, with some accounts not getting paid and others showing a credit balance. I have spent hours trying to fix it and on the phone with customer service many times. Only once has someone been able to help. We worked together and sent a spreadsheet, and it got fixed, but it got messed up again. Recently, we sent two checks, and one got applied, but the other didn't. I called to ask about it, and they finally found it, but said it takes a while to apply because it pays for many accounts. The check was sent a month ago. Someone from Minnesota Energy called about it, but she wouldn't listen when I tried to explain how to apply the payment. She asked me to email the spreadsheet instead. I did on 1/3, but got no response. I followed up yesterday, and they said they couldn't find my account and asked for my name, address, and social security number. The spreadsheet had the account name and number. I won't email a tax ID number, and no one else should either. I keep getting automatic calls saying our account is past due, but the payment hasn't been applied. Customer service is terrible, and we would switch if there was another gas company.
