I have an expired gift card that I wanted to receive the balance on and have a new card shipped to me for that balance. The federal Credit Card Accountability Responsibility and Disclosure Act prohibits the expiration of a card unless at least 5 years has past since it was activated. NH state law (where I live) has additional laws regarding this to protect consumers.
I was unable to check the balance online, and I called the customer service number at [protected] to speak with customer service about this matter. I spoke with a lady named Surbha, and she refused to give me the balance, saying that she needed me to verify the "last monthly loaded amount." There was only the initial loaded amount, as the card specifically says that it is non-reloadable. I do not know what original amount was loaded, as I have received a large number of gift cards over the years. Without knowing the originally loaded amount, Surbha said she was unable to help me. I then requested to be transferred to her manager, assuming that there was something more I could do to resolve this issue, and she steadfastly refused to transfer me to any one else. She simply said I could call back at a later time with the last loaded amount. I requested probably 10-15 times to be transferred to her manager, and she would put me on hold, come back and say thank you for holding and then tell me she needed the loaded amount. We went around and around in circles. But she absolutely refused to let me speak with a manager or even a coworker that had dealt with this situation before, as I'd find it hard to believe that no one else has ever had this issue. Needless to say, Surbha was rude and refused to help address this issue. I've never had such a frustrating conversation with customer service as I did speaking with Surbha.
Like I told her, it could be that there is no balance left on the card. If so, I am happy to just cut the card up and throw it away, but if there is a balance, I would (1) like to know and (2) like to have a new card with the balance shipped to me, as is policy with every other gift card company that I know.
Desired outcome: I just want to know the balance of my card (if anything!) and to have that balance sent to me on a new card.
