I am also dealing with this company. I got scammed into paying for magazines for two years, and have been making payments for several months. The have an active credit card for me and they turned me into a claim agency to collect the rest of the money, almost 400 dollars. I was never notified of any missed payments becuase I was unaware that THEY stopped taking payments out of the credit card on file. The claim agency says I cannot contact the company and must pay the 400 dollars immediately. Help, is there any way around this?

Magazine Subscription Scam
Hello. My name is Valerie Edinger and I am writing in a formal complaint about a company called Omnipresent Inc. I have searched them online through the Better Business Bureau and I wish I did this before anything happened with them so I would know what Im dealing with.
A year ago (or so) I got a phone call on my cell phone from this magazine company called Omni Present Inc. I worked over night I believe at that point and they called me early on a Sunday morning on the cell phone so I was less than pleased about that. In my delirium (I was half asleep) they mentioned something about magazines. At that point I was a radio DJ (still am) for a radio station in NJ so i figured I could use some of these entertainment magazines for my show. So at first i agreed to pay for these magazines that I wouldnt even normally agree to if i was coherent. I shouldve hung up the phone because what happend since then was nothing less than a scam.
I would get these magazines not all that often either, and I had to pay out the nose for it. Whats worse is i had to pay out the nose to make it stop! The last purchase to make it stop was on one of my credit cards for $300 dollars, it showed up as magazines I believe. I thought that was the end of it. This week (December 4th 2008) I get a phone call from someone named "Anthony" at this phone number: [protected] I tried to search it online and had no luck. He did however tell me (when he called me earlier this week) that Omnipresent Inc. was bought out by his company that he works for right now called National ...?! (i know thats not the full name of the company i dont remember his phone was cutting in and out). Anyway i then told him that i didnt know what he was talking about when he said "oh we are calling to see how you like your magazines"...i then told him my membership with his company expired and he said that i am on a 5 year subscription contract with them and eventhough i cancelled it by paying the 300 dollars he told me that was only for the first half of the subscription! At this point i was spitting fire i was so mad and i then asked to speak with his supervisor to straighten it out, he then told me that he is only available and when i said i wanted the number for customer service he then told me that he would call me back later on in the evening instead. He called me back around 6:30pm and i didnt answer because i went on the BBB and found out it is a fraud scam. I just dont want any collection letters or anything affecting my credit from this situation...i dont know what to do because he said that i will be receiving a package from them this monday...which is tomorrow...i am so stressed and upset over this i just want it to go away but i refuse to pay anything since i took care of this already. Plus i went onto the magazine websites themselves and most of them already say that my subscriptions are expired and others dont even have me as a subscriber so what is going on here?! I hope you can help me with this. Thanks!

money
A guy called me telling me about a $50, 000 sweepstake I was entered into. He was very kind and respectful so when he asked me to put in a good word for him when his supervisor called it was no problem. The supervisor, Mary-Ann Harris, explained to me that I was to receive a daimond watch and three magazines for free and she explained a subscription plan to me. She made sure I wrote all of it down so I would kno what I was to be billed for. $4.62/wk, $19.74/mth for 48 months and billed 12 times in all - the total was to be $79.73. Because I didn't have money in my account at that moment, she said that I would be billed once the funds were available. I just put $100 dollars in my bank account three days ago and today when I went to the ATM i was denied because I only had $20.10 in my account. Those 12 payments that were supposed to made only once a month were all taken at once leaving me, a struggling, teenage college student, helpless. Because I just turned 18, I guess I was a part of their targeted audience. I need to know where to find help!
Repeatedly sends Notice of Renewal for Cat Fancy Magazine ( and other magazines) at 4x the normal rate. Notice even looks like an official bill. Quite a few people have complained about this. People more trusting than I would be easily taken in by these people. They have been doing this for years (I see complaints going back to 2008 and even earlier.) Why hasn't anything been done to stop them?
After having set up a payment plan amounting to about $80 total, supposedly to be divided up over 6 months, International Magazine Company took it all in one payment, and then repeatedly called and tried to contact me to keep paying them. They have now sent me a supposed "collections letter" and are trying to say I owe over $300 for magazines I never even received. They are a TOTAL scam, and should be avoided.
they charge me for magazines n i want to cancel my subscription
Okay i told these guys i wasn't interested but they said "I'll put you in anyway", then i hung up. About a week later they illegally charged my card by the name of Virginia Card Check or something, i cancel my card, a week later they ask for my card info because i was part of a contract, i hung up, i called Visa and they said they never release card info to 3rd party something. They call back, i told them to stop calling me, they say no "you care part of a contract give us your card information" what kind of good business employee talks like that? Then a month later THEY ACTUALLY SEND ME MAGAZINES, none of which i even heard of, so i have them mailed back, they still call. Bottom line don't pick up, they won't reason with you thus you have no obligation to reason with them.
omg that's the same person that been calling me about some free magazines when i accepted my husband told me to call back and cancel when i called back to do it then gave me a hard time and they been bothering me ever since and it started in september :( i want it to stop to.

I did the same thing that everyone here complains about. I got a call and went through the whole shenanigan and end up buying the subscription from IMC. I went online found a website, like this one, claim that it was a scam. I panic and tried to cancel my account, the number I called didn't work so I close my VISA card and let it be. Plus I was also told they would send my a billing of the magazines I purchase with a number I could call if I wanted to cancel. Never got that bill, just the one now stating I violated the contract I made with them. For the next three months they been calling me, trying to settle my account, and I've been ignoring them. Hanging up on them and not returning their call because I though they were a scam. Finally I wanted all of this to end so I call the back and left them a message. Three days later they called me back and we settle a deal. The guy on the other end was trying to help me as much as possible by giving me discounts and low payments. But in the end I could do it so I was suck paying monthly for the fees I didn't pay and the fees in the future. But because I didn't have money right there and then we set a date and they plan to charge me on Dec 15. Over all if i didn't ignore their calls I would of cancel my account and got my money back. Overall I don't think IMC is a scam but rather a very expensive company. If you have a problem try and keep calling them.
About three months ago I did the same thing that everyone here claimed. I got a call and went through all the shenanigan and in the end I found a website, like this one, stating how much of a ripe off they were and how they could of been a scam. I'll tell you this, firstly don't ignore their calls like I did. Although I did attempt to cancel my account with IMC, I cancel my VISA account because I though they were a scam. But if I would of just listen to what they had to say, they would of canceled my account and pay me back in full of the money I spent. They guy, on the other end of the phone, tried to help me as much as possible but I could deal with the plans he gave me (and he was willing to give me a two plan deal with as much discount he could give me). In the end I had to pay in full of the subscription because I didn't answer their calls. But the guy was really helpful and patient. He tried to help save money and did all that he can. So now I have to pay for the three months that I didn't pay for and I'm going to pay the total amount for the subscription next time so it don't have to deal with them.
samething happend to me, I finally got to customer support, and has anyone of you ever got a guy named Alfonzo?...i got him twice and he ensures me theres nothing he can do, and he cant cancel my account, and all he said was "We dont sign any customers up with the intentions to cancel" im like what company does?!?!?!? but come one his is a scam, if they got you the just cancel your card.
Apparently they are on it again, I just received a call from a woman named Dona who gave the same story to me as she did to any of you who Google this. They offered a diamond watch and told me I was being entered to a million dollar sweepstakes and then they went on about magazines. Once I assured them I was not interested in their magazines, immediately the line was disconnected. Obviously it's a scam cause they know their not getting your credit card information and have no further business with you. The numbers used to contact me were [protected](Dona) and [protected](Keen)
I joined this bs much like Around the world unseen.
Military guy.
Steady paycheck.
And then, the same old song and dance.
I have no real reason to put this comment up, but I do want to make this known.
There are countless complaints on this company, a few people who like them, and even an employee who hates them.
That's gotta mean something. I'm just one of the many to continue the out-numbering the ones who defend this company.
Nothing mean to say (everyone else has said it a million times) But I do feel the same way.
False Information/Lack of Information
I originally signed up for a magazine subscription offered to me by International Magazine Co. over the phone. One of the only questions I asked was "Can I cancel at any time?". The response to my question was vague; along the lines of "We don't encourage our subscribers to cancel." About a week after signing up for the subscriptions, I was informed that I was going to be studying abroad, so I called to cancel, to little avail.
The woman who took my call, was snide and condescending to my situation; "Didn't you initially know you were going to be leaving the country for 6-8 months?!". In the end, after much frustration, and having her inform me that I was obligated to pay for the 7 year subscription (an obnoxious sum of close to $800), I agreed to pay the "lowest cancellation fee" available (approx $180) for magazines I may never get because their system appears fraudulent. This happened almost 8 weeks ago and I have yet to receive any magazines promised to me for the year. To say the least, I will never accept any over-the-phone offers ever again and am disappointed in the dishonesty and obscurity presented by International Magazine Company.
I too was victimized by these folks just a few weeks ago, never got any magazines so I just called my bank after no one at the company answered when I tried to cancel my subscription. I changed my credit card and my bank is filing a dispute as to whether I need to pay for what I never got. They only got me for 53.16 so far. I hope they don't try anything else...they do not know who they are messing with...
Possible Fraud
Magazine company offered me a free deal of magazines but charged anyways, I attempted to change my magazines and inquire about the charges but the phone number provided to me by them was not in service and the phone number under the bank statements was also fake([protected]). I received letters warning of debt collectors and later received phone calls from a debt collection company called Luebke Baker & Associates telling me I owed them roughly $800 but offered to settle for $200. There are also various consumer complaints about the legitimacy of this company as well.
this company is a scam and a half. someone need to find out where there real address is so i can take them to court
they just called me and told me i won a diamond watch and a bunch of free magazines and id just have to pay like $4 dollars a week and wanted my credit card number and i told them i didnt feel comfortable giving it over the phone and he kept trying to convince me it was ok and saying "now tell me your card number". the phone number didnt even show up with an area code.
This is the biggest ripoff and very difficult to track down who is doing it
National Magazine Service has renewed subscriptions to 2 magazines without any notice or authorization from me, and charged my credit card. A couple of years ago, I got a few free issues of 2 magazines after buying something else online. This is the biggest ripoff and very difficult to track down who is doing it. We finally spotted it on our credit card bill and opened a dispute.

I see that I am not the only one that has been duped by this "company". I sent two checks that totaled $70.00 for TV guide subscription renewal. One was sent in October and the other in December of 2010. It is now June 2011 and I no longer have a subscription and TV Guide has no record of receiving any information from National Magazine Service, yet both checks were cashed. I live from paycheck to paycheck and am very upset at this loss of money and now I have to pay for another subscription. What can be done about this?
Several magazines were ordered via telephone. They would not cancel the subscriptions, but did say they would substitute a different magazine. That never arrived. When I contacted someone on their provided phone number, they hung up.
Impossible to reach
No magazines received
On February 20, 2007, a check was sent to International Magazine Service in the amount of $59.98 for a two year extension to our Playboy Magazine and a free one year subscription to Penthouse Magazine. The account number is ZNT0000502670-3 in the name of Rosemary Fischbach, 3108 W 99th St, Cleveland, OH 44102. To date, we have not received the Penthouse Magazine, nor has the extension of the Playboy term being shown on our mailing label. Can someone you help?
Thank you,
Rosemary Fischbach
