management and client services
I joined NYSC over the phone in June and tried to cancel my membership a few months later due to a job relocation.Because of my job relocation, the most financially sound option for me was to move back in with my parents (this is my first job after graduating from college in May). I knew this would be a problem because I had signed up for a one-year commitment, not anticipating that my job would be relocated to an area 25+ miles away from a NYSC. I knew it was possible to end my membership early (even though I had signed up for a year commitment) due to online research on the NYSC website. When trying to cancel, it was impossible for me to get someone to help me either over the phone or in my club. I was finally directed to go in and to speak to the general manager of my club, Lakisha Jones, at Rockefeller Center on August 20th (I had been calling trying to get someone to help me throughout the preceding week). She told me I would have to provide her with appropriate documentation, proving my move, which she would send to customer services and would potentially release my obligation of a $100 early cancellation fee. I immediately sent her about 7 different pieces of documentation. She explicitly said in person that it was very important to send this information ASAP to avoid being charged for the month of September. I sent her all documentation and went 5 days without a response. I finally had to follow up with her again and she told me I would be released from the $100 fee, but would still need to pay for the 45 day cancellation notice. I was NEVER notified when I originally signed up or throughout this process of a 45 day cancellation notice. Even before I met with Lakisha, I spoke numerous times to an employee named Ivan at Rockefeller Center and an agent on the customer services hotline. I was never sent a contract when I signed up, nor was I ever informed of this policy (the website says the policy varies by club, plus I was trying to get to the bottom of this well before I met with Lakisha on August 20th). I really do not appreciate how this situation was handled and how rude and unhelpful all involved parties were to me. I am seeking a full refund of this 45 day cancellation notice which I was never informed of and was even misinformed of by the general manager of my club. After this experience, I would never recommend NYSC to any of my friends and family who are currently relocating to NYC. I am willing to forward my email chain with Lakisha and attachments to anyone who will help.
unauthorized charge
I entered the NYSC in Grand Central on 6 separate occasions in the last two months and was never told it was an elite club. I just found out that they charge $20 extra each time for a total of $120. I've called the management of the Grand Central gym on twice and left a message. She has not returned my calls. I expect to be reimbursed for these charges.
wifi has not been working
Hi, the WiFi at the NYSC in Rego Park, NY has not had Wifi (or an extremely weak signal to the point where the internet does not work at all), for weeks. The months of July and August 2018, I go to the gym around 4-5 days a week, and, especially in August, there is never any Wifi. I would like a refund for 2 months membership, as this is unacceptable and has made my gym experience unenjoyable.
illegal charges on my account for towels
I own a passport membership at NYSC but I usually visit the one in Hawthore, NY. I have a contract that specify unlimited towels and they limiting the use of towels to 2 towels saying that the contract doesn't specify the amount and I believe it is wrong for them to limit the towels we use since when you go and sign in they tell the customer we can have free towels to use at the gym. I feel it is anti sanitize to use the same shower you work out and use in the sauna to dry your body and two little towers are not enough and they should not limit the amount of towers we used since the contract doesn't specify how many. I also want to complain because they increased my membership 5 months ago with the excuse that they were going to get new spinning bikes and they have the old bikes and they are saying they used the money to paint the gym. I don't think is ethical or legal for them to limits the amount of towels the member use when they tell you when you sign a contract that you can get unlimited towels and now they are charging two dollars if you take more than two towels. I can be reach at [protected] Alta Casilla
random charges to my credit card after terminating membership
This company is a disaster. I cancelled my membership over the phone, Was told there's an amount to cancel and I was charged. Next day charged over $100.00 in addition to the prior day. Then over then next few months there were random charges way exceeding the membership dues. I have been back and forth for 4 month now. Finally was able to get an email for the business director and I'm still getting the run around because the said I did not have actual proof of termination even though I went into the Upper West Side location and spoke to the manager. In addition the business director gave me a break down of charges and explained that one was a cancellation fee. His email before indicated a different fee was waived and returned which it had not been credited back. I had 3 different versions of what the cancellation fee was in addition to the rest of the mess. I have never been so furious. Do not take membership with this company.
I forgot to add the business director said that one large charge was for 2 months. They're supposed to charge per month and yet I have proof they charged me twice for one of the months.
can you share this director's email?
overcharge while freezing the account and cancellation issues
I have been trying to reach out to anyone to help me out. I have been a member for over 3 years, I'm a college student, so I froze my membership after the first year because I was away at college. Some months they were charging me the regular fees. At the beginning of this year, they charge me 65$ annual fees, so I called to cancel my membership and the receptionist told me that it's canceled then a month after I was charged again, I called and they said that I have to come in to cancel it, but I'm in a different state. when I went back home, I went in to cancel it when they say that I'd have to wait for a manager to cancel. So I couldn't get in touch with a manager, I had to have my credit card company deactivate my card after they have already charged my card for three/ four times regular fees, and I couldn't even dispute because the 90 days periods passed and I'm trying to get the credits back to my credit card. The general manager told me that he'll have his manager contact me. Here I'm three months and nothing happened. Gets a voice mall just to lmk that they will report me to the collection department. I hope that anyone can reach me via email.
gym membership
The NYSC in cobble hill engages in fraudulent behavior they conibtue to bill after memebership is canceled. My boyfriend and I moved out of the area and appeared in person to cancel our memebership but they cinitjner to bill Amex for membership and they charged me for personal training that I didn't sign up for. I bought some training sessions and the trainer had me electronically sign a waiver but never let me see it. Now they claim I agreed to ongoing sessions that required 30 days notice to end. They charged me 800 on my Amex for training sesssions to a gym I cancelelled membership in. So they stole my money and now they have the nerve to fight my Amex dispute. Of course they are fighting, they don't make money on new clients, they make money stealing from clients. Clearly they don't care about their reputation as is evidenced by the countless complaints on every social medium. What criminal cares about reputation? I would like to start a class action lawsuit anyone else?
condition of club at west nyack, ny
I've been a member of NYSC for over 20 years. The West Nyack club is in dreadful condition. Two of three upright exercise bikes have been under repair for two weeks; one water fountain has not worked for a month; another is falling apart with handles off. The hand cleaning dispensers are almost always empty for days before someone fills them. In the Men's locker room often there are no paper towels. The air conditioner was out for about two weeks last month. This club is poorly administered and negligence is overwhelming. And this is the tip of the iceberg. There is much more to report. Antiquated machines; machines that just don't work properly.
The club is easy access from my home in Nyack but if things don't improve quickly I'm going to end my membership and move to 24 Hour Fitness which is in immaculate shape and obviously well-administered.
unauthorized charges, misrepresentation of product, vague and not forthcoming about cancellation policies
7/10/2018 - I was charged for a 4th month of personal training. I originally started in April. I had originally tried to cancel in May because I was switching jobs and moving but it was told to me that it was a 3 month commitment. The consequences of cancelling before then was not told to me. The way the program was portrayed to me was that it was only 3 months. No one relayed to me that it was an ongoing commitment to which cancellation would be up to me to initiate. When I was charged again in July, I immediately called my trainer at Englewood NYSC. He told me he would speak to his manager. Again, no information on how to actually start the cancellation process was given. So there were multiple opportunities but no one said anything and there was no mention of an actual cancellation policy then, nor at the start of the whole process. The training manager said that he has no power to give any money back, at which point I contacted the NYSC website. The area director reached out, to which she referred heavily to the "agreement" that was signed and to which I have no copy. So the Area Director has no actual power to conduct real customer service that would keep an otherwise satisfied client.
switching from regular membership to silver sneakers
I hope you can help, we are beyond frustrated.
my name is amnon suodai - tel. # [protected], gym # [protected]#.
I am holding a gym membership for over one year and I have received a 'silver sneaker' card in the mail from my insurance company in february.
I walked over to the queens blvd gym right away to make the switch but was told we must make this transaction with the manager. we were given the managers schedule and visited the gym in person x4 but the manager was never there that day or stepped out. we left written messages for her to please call us back. no answer.
july 9th, my girlfriend brigitte and I again stopped by the gym - 10.45am and we told by crystal she just stepped out. expected time to return 12pm. brigitte left a handwritten note for manager to call us, - we found out her name is alea hicks - we received her business card - no call received.
brigitte called back a few hours later, requesting to speak with alea - amber informed us she is on a call - but will call me back within one hour - my message was on top of her call back pile. no call received.
brigitte now called a few hours later and spoke with joseph - requesting to speak to alea hicks supervisor - we were told her name is sarah.
sarah indeed called within one hour and left a messages that I could not understand due to bad phone connection, and brigitte called sarah within 5 minutes, but joseph informed us - sarah can not come to the phone - but is aware of your situation - that sarah contacted headquarters and we will receive an email - no email received to date.
surely you can understand the frustrating and quite infuriating situation I am in.
I could have had 'free gym membership' since february,
therefore, my request to you is, please release me from my current membership and backdate and refund my membership for the month of February march april may june and july.
please contact us at your earliest convenience via email if you have any questions or an answer to this problem.
should this not happen we will report this to american express card as fraud.
thank you for your help,

membership
I have never been treated so bad in my entire life by a member service employee. NYSC should be ashamed to hire an individual like this.
I am trying to cancel my membership and am being told I have to come into the club I originally joined or have a certified letter. This is ridiculous I should be able to send an email.
Your membership rep told me by "Law" I have to have a certified letter. First of all, this is not by law. She needs to correct her self when speaking in terms of the law.
What I don't appreciate is an employee who is in customer service talking down to me.
Sophia who works in member services for NYSC in Butler NJ had the nerve to say I'm sure you have time to get a certified letter and I don't understand what is in your head but your membership isn't canceled unless you come in or provide a certified letter to cancel. She had the audacity to start giggling on the phone. Who does this?
I'm sorry but I work full time in the corporate world and am a fulltime mother. Not everyone has the free time to run and get a certified letter or make it to the gym I originally signed up with to cancel.
I have nothing but bad things to say about NYSC.
should this not happen we will report this to american express card as fraud.
thank you for your help,
unauthorized charges
I have been charged an annual fee even though I only joined for one month and my membership was cancelled the same day I joined (I was leaving the City for a few months). The manager told me it was a mistake and that I would get a refund. Instead of a refund, I have been charged another $10. Now I am supposed to get $70 back. Meanwhile, I find out the manager no longer works there. This is very upsetting.
harassment
I have been repeatedly email and text message by nysc after asking ten Plus times to be removed from your system. Someone took pictures of me at your club and I want nothing to do with nysc. Remove my email and my phone number. I am escalating this to the better business bureau. I have emailed back and texted asking to leave me alone. Zero regard has been given to this request- this is illegal harassment.
NYSC Dobbs Ferry has the worst and dumbest manager I ever met. The guy is a block head. He and his assistants are liers. I canceled my membership yet they charge for the month for the next cycling period. I've been there 10 years and they don't care. I brought in friends and family members and they will all soon leave the club. I'm suing the club.
broken ac
I am a member of NYSC in Massapequa. Formally known is fit club. Before sports club took over fit club, I was paying $30 a month for my membership. Since February, it's been increased to $40 a month (as well as all former fit club members) as I was told it was being used for new equipment in the gym. Besides not getting any new equipment, the air conditioning has been broken for the last few months. With the summer here, and the temperature increasing, I can no longer take spin classes here (as the temperature in the spin room reads 85 degrees half of the time) let alone exercise in any part of the gym because some days it is unbearably hot. There has been at least two days where I have left feeling physically ill from how overheated I was. I am extremely bothered, as I am now paying $40 a month for a gym I can't even use because of the heat. It is a health hazard. Please get this fixed.
patricia tortora business manager
I would like to complain about being approached by Patricia while I was leaving the gym and talking to another member. She had the audacity to come up to me and tell me she needed to speak to me about my membership account. This is very unprofessional and was embarrassment to me and to the membership advisors. She is a business manager not a sales or membership advisor. Why was my problem her business? She lied to town sports and told them that she had spoken to me abou getting my membership cleared up and about the situation. The only communication I received before this were emails asking me to update my credit card info online. Also all of her emails wound up in the junk mail folder so most were ever seen. She took it upon herself to cancel my membership after I have been a loyal member for 13 years. Through all the crap that this gym gives its members, I still got them plenty of business and told friends and family to join. Half the members wouldn't be there if it wasn't for me. The gym is a filthy, disgusting [censored] hole and the heat and air never work right and the machines are always broken. Every treadmill was broken during the first week In January of this year. They took more members than they could handle bc another gym in the area had closed which made it impossible to book a class or get on a machine. I complained number out times and nothing was done. Getting back to Patricia, she harassed me and sent me nasty emails about her decision because she is a fat, jealous pig. She never discussed my situation with me which was a personal matter as I am going through a divorce. Instead she chose to embarrass me in front of another member and took a private matter and made it known throughout the gym. She hasn't right to make any decision about membership as she is not the club manager but the business manager there. I am taking the matter further by going to the human resource department and filing a complaint against her there as well. S
taking more money out of my account
On April and May 2018 the location in Bayonne NJ has been taking more money out of my account without a warning of any increase. The manager Rivera lied to me that I was notified when I wasn't. He said I would get the difference back and I have not seen my money. When I call they always say he's not there and doesn't answer my calls. I will report them to the Better Business Bureau.
I'm also canceling my subscription.
worst customer resolution ever!!!
On March 29th 2018 was my last day at the Rego Park NYSC because someone forced and opened up my locker and stole my wallet and nobody care to do anything to help me and because of that I immediately cancelled my membership. The representative that day made me sign a cancellation form and explain the reason of why I was canceling lt.
For my surprised I received an email stating I have 3 months overdue. On June 20th I went to the gym to speak to a manager but none were there and gave me a card for me to email or call.
When I called and "Spoke" to a manager she told me the months were waived and I just had to pay for a cancellation fee. When I returned to the gym the same day they say they didn't have any information or notes in regards my case.
nysc fitness manager gabby fitness manager baldwin place, ny
This employee has a history of being disparaging toward NYSC members of color. As a member this form of racism is totally unacceptable. She approaches members of color in a condendsending and disrespectful manner. Others member have complained of her mannerisms. NYSC should reprimand her actions. She must be reminded of company policies and procedures . All members of NYSC must be treated with highest levelof respect.
billing and payments
My name is Delia Morales back in January of this year I went personally into nysc in Hoboken on 14th street and cancelled my membership however the company continues to withdraw money out of my bank account. I spoke several times with the general manager she started that I was going to get a refund back and again this past week it happen again another withdraw I called Ann's spoke with her again she said she was on it and that she would call me back today Friday, I called her and the receptionist states she's busy and asked if she could help me I explained the situation she put me on hold comes back on the phone and states that the general manager is not there I requested to speak to someone on top of the general manager and she started that there is no one also requested a phone number to contact a CEO she stated she does not have that information I informed my bank of your company tries to withdraw again from my account that it is not authorized and your company is committing fraud
fitness manager jamie 91st 3rd location
I've been a member of new york sports club for nearly 8 years and typically have had fantastic relations with trainers and managers alike. Sadly, this ended today with an incident so absolutely abhorrently unacceptable I called the police and will be forced to litigate civilly.
I approached Jamie politely, in public, telling him that I felt it was hypocritical of him to tell me that I was in violation of "training" people in the gym. In reality, I was working out with a friend of mine who happened to be smaller, and did nothing out of the ordinary doing a new workout routine with him. The friend was a guest, and it was certainly not a routine thing.
I cordially approached the fitness manager Jamie, and told him I've been a member for years and I asked him why he allows other members to train together, and that I wanted to clear the air if he had a problem with me. I was consciously relaxed with my tone, as I knew he had a reputation for anger.
Now let it go on record I am 5 foot 9 on a good day. I work in finance and have never gotten in any sort of legal trouble. This man is around 6 foot 7 minimum, and easily over 230 pounds. Jamie brought me into the office and we started talking. He quickly became "heated", getting in my face after I told him he was acting hypocritically saying what I did was impermissible, and that his gym " Was the best in new York City, and it was all because of his management". Instead of acting like a professional, Jamie then proceeded to attempt tp berate me, intimidate me, lock me in the office, and body me into a corner. This is sickeningly disturbing behavior from a 30 something year old man who runs an " elite" gym on the upper east side.
After asking him why he was getting so irate when I was just trying to have a discussion, he then started yelling and moving his hands in my face that much more, i then told him how unprofessional he was acting. He could have told me the conversation was over, instead I now realized he was blocking the door, and had his right fist clenched. He got in my face so close I could feel his breath, waving his arms around and thats when I told him to get out of my face. He further positioned himself between me and the door, and shut it closed tightly. He then started off by calling me a " chump" and that I was not even " that big".
At this point he become increasingly aggressive and I became worried. I told him to move, and that he was acting ridiculous and then told him this was incredibly petty. He seemed to go somewhere else mentally. He went on about how " [censored]ed up earlier earlier in life, but wouldnt let a [censored] talk to him like this". he called me a [censored] some more, which was incredibly dissapoinging, and thats when I screamed at him to move out of my way and let me out.
His fingers twitched to start trying to lock the door, I told him if he didnt get out of my way I would call the police. He got closer to my face and shoved me back with his body. At this point, I was prying on the door and unlocking it while trying to move him. I started screaming for help, finally got him to move and unlocked the door and flung it open. I then walked outside and immediately called the police.
