Company Offers
The RD has turned out to be one of the biggest scam artists in history.
Your company morals have changed drastically. All you seem to do is try to involve the innocent readers in one scam or another.
Each offer you send turns out to be just another way to line your already gold-lined pockets, by taking money from us - (in this case the elderly).
It's a sad day when an institution such as RD turns to dishonest and unworthy business practices!
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.

Thanks in advance
Lawrence Lavkulik
P.S. - Would be nice to hear from you and your comments.
Once again, we are paying for something I don't recall ordering. We have received in the past some of the hardback bound story collections, which I did not order but decided to keep anyway, and payfor. This happened several times, and each time I lost a little more patience at being taken advantage of. This last time, I wrote on the package in BIG BOLD marker "return to sender", yet the bills keep coming.
Let it be known now that this is the LAST time I will EVER order/pay/communicate with this company. Shame on you for your shady practices! I am copying this email and intend to refuse ANY MORE packages that come my way. If I ever receive another nasty threat, I will be taking all this correspondence to my lawyer.
ENOUGH ALREADY! Marie Hayward

I subscribed the magazine Reader's Digest through i subscribe on 26 Mar 2008 and till now, not one issue arrived up till 27July 2008! 4 Months of waiting! Upon expediting them, they sent all 4 issues for 4 months in a go. Now it is August 26th and the August issue has not arrived (when It was supposed to come last week of July and 1st week August), and today is the 2nd email in a month i am writing to them about getting the August Issue posting out.
This is extremely frustrating and exhausting to have to expedite every time.
DEAR SIR
EVEN AFTER I HAVE PAID SUBSRIPTION AMOUNT Rs, 379.00 ON 08.07.2009 TO M/S LIVING MEDIA INDIA LTD, THRO' VPP POSTAL SERVICE, I HAVE NOT RECEIVED TILL NOW READER'S DIGEST.
REF. POSTAL VP PACKET NO:M-16892.
Even though subscription is no where near the expiration date I keep receiving renewal notices & phone calls. It is very confusing when you know you just renewed the subscription and you receive a notice yours is expiring. Also they offered a free 1-year bonus gift subscription plus a free gift subscription for a family member also a free desk calendar & pocket calendar ( which has never been received) I called their 800 number and they said they ran out of them & reordered them but it will be 8-12 weeks before I will receive them) Hello, that's 3 months into the new year I needed the dsk top NOW! I received a call yesterday stating my subscription will end in April, which I replied I just renewed AGAIN in Nov., that evening I received a book in the mail and my expiration date is DEC. 08. My family really enjoys the Reader's Digest but I think they are SCAMMING people!
So here is a World Class company from the Aussies down under, but the South African branch is a far cry from World Class! I have paid for a full year's subscription and to date I have only received 5 copies of the supposed 12. It's absolutely no use dealing with the call centre as they are based in another country and the staff in the call centre really struggle to understand what you are saying - they all sound Mexican! E-mailing them is not of much use either-I sent one explaining the situation and they came back saying that they have cancelled my subscription as per my request(I never asked them to cancel the subscription) and the Magazines will stop coming, but if any do arrive in the interim I may keep it with compliments - WITH COMPLIMENTS? HA! I paid for them! Reader's Digest owes me either the money back for books not received or the books I paid for. Crazy isn't it?! So yes, I wasted R254.00 on a 1 year subscription and I will never make that mistake again. Neither will I ever deal with Reader's Digest or recommend that anybody else use them! They are unprofessional and incompetent.
I received a card from my subscription to Reader's Digest. The entitlement was to enter a contest for a Sony GPS & the access code was 33791. The contest, per the card is scheduled to end Feb. 28, 2009. The directions were to go to www.rd.ca/gps. Each entry to that does not lead to any contest. I think that Readers Digest should be investigated for their contests. I am assuming there is a law to protect Consumers against fraud & this to me constitutes fraud.
S. Boone, Niagara Falls, Ont.
Once again I am shocked at the amount of lying Reader's Digest does. I subscribed for the Reader's Digest so that I can "win" a lot of money and, after 2 years, have yet to win a penny. I just received another copy of the Reader's Digest and found a card that said a surprise gift is waiting for me. I went to the website and, again, NOTHING! This is disgusting! The government should take some action against this company and dissolve its charter. I am sick to death of all their promises which never get delivered. I hope they can be penalized, and fast, before someone gets really hurt by their shady way of running a business. As far as I am concerned, they are sisters and I WILL NOT RENEW MY SUBSCRIPTION AGAIN!
I received a "free gift" from Reader's Digest. I was suprised, as I had never ordered anything from the company or had even been contacted by them. A few days later, I received an invoice in the total of $29.01 for something I never ordered. I finally located a number on their website under "Customer care" and am now waiting on the line (and have been for about 1/2 an hour). This is absolutely rridiculous that someone could send you something under the false pretenses of a "free gift" and then send you an invoice for something you never ordered.
I don't know about anyone else, but I am a student and my husband's income is the only thing supporting us and our three young children. In this economy, I cannot afford any more bills, especially for a worthless piece of junk that I never ordered in the first place!
Ok. Quit sending us bills for subscriptions we never made. This is a scam. What happened to the old Reader's Digest we once knew and loved? Now we hate you and will never read your magazine ever again! Are you not getting the message? Have you not checked out the complaints waged against you? Are you not shamefaced at calling your publication a family magazine? What gives? Do you not understand that one complaint is a possible class action suit for fraud? Do you live on another planet or even on Pluto, the most recent non-planet? And in addition to all this you expect us to spend money on a postage stamp in order to return you bogus billing statement? Geeeeeeeze! GET OFF OUR BACK AND DO NOT SEND ANY MORE JUNK MAIL TO OUR ADDRESS!

I am complaining about the bill I got today for the "Silks" book which I cancelled when I got the first free book. I do not want this book and I
do not intend to pay for it. I did not order it.
Question: Why doesn't an outfit as big as Reader's Digest have an 8OO
number where you can be reached to settles this kind of problem?
This last book came marked Free gifts inside, and then when I opened
it there was this book I did not order.
Please reply so that I know this has been taken care of.

Reader's Digest not available
Reader's Digest sent a contest form and on-line address: www.rd.ca/ipodtouch. The access code given was 65972. The draw was to close May 31st @midnight.
It seems impossible to find this address or anything about it. This is not the first time they have sent similar contest entries of this nature and the
search result is the same. No contact. The contest entry form came enclosed with my Reader's Digest magazine.(received today).
advertising something that is not there, will cancel subscription.
How do I know what the surprise is?!
Tried to log in to do the rd.ca/ipodtouch.
Carn't find web site?
No place to submit name and access code
Non existent website for possible prize!
No such website!
Cannot access www.rd.ca/ipodtouch for my chance to win a free oipod! How sad is that?
No such web site
no such website
site does not exist (www.rd.ca/ipodtouch ) for this contest
an email address given that isn't there
need to type in the right address. look carefully readersdigest.ca/wii is the correct site!
peoples fault if they can't access the codes. I've been entering the codes for them several times. just type to your web browser www.readersdigest.ca/wii or you cant just go to their website, on the right panel, there are a list of contest and one of them is the wii contest, stupid if you missed it.
reader's digest abide with the canadian law, if this is a fraud, why haven't the government stop this?
the point is, people don't read rules/labels/instructions carefully...
about the sweepstakes, nobody read the rules... it's clear if you wish to join but do not want to purchase, send in the no envelope.
if you wish to purchase and join, send in the yes envelope with the stickers afixed.
actually you have to type www.readersdigest.ca/wii on the internet's explorer's address bar. not on search box of yahoo or google.
thus the word "search box" meaning it will search relevant items. unlike typing it on your own eplorer's address bar...
Although I entered my code a few times, it kept on saying that the code was entered incorrectly. (Believe me...I have more than basic writing & numerical skills!) No wonder, everyone is complaining...
Where do I enter the access code? Very disappointing, my 5 yr old son is right here beside me and I am not able to tell him we can't enter so we don't have a chance to win anything because its a scam, that is soooooooo wrong!
I enjoy your magazine. I read all the little funnies first.
No where to enter on the Nintendo Wll Why? Ed
Ihave an entery form for Nintendo Wii, with access number, BUT no where to enter on your web page... WHY? please advise Thank-you Ed Tramer
I have been a long time subscriber of Reader's Digest. I also give yearly subscriptions to other family members. I don't recall in the past 30 or more years that this type of contest/draw has ever been sent by RD. If there is no contest, why send the card/access code for everyone to try to bring up on-line when there is no official site. Makes you wonder about other offers they are sending.
no coment i would like to enter the contest
Wii contest
Mail outs were received by many customers in their monthly magazine. We are asked to go to web site www.rd.ca/wii and enter an access code. The contest is to end on Aug 31? There is no such website or contest. Apparently there was one In November of 2007, but that was some time ago. That date was the close of the contest. Well, stung again eh. I didn't think that RD would really do this to it's faithful customers... SHAME ON YOU! We should all be compensated for their error. I won' t hold my anything waiting.
I TOTALLY AGREE with the complaint, as I too have tried for this contest and another previous one, and NEVER found the so called existing site. Seems a person has to be a computer expert just to get to the site listed, and I work in the field! What it boils down to is the company NOT supplying the proper instructions to GET to the so called site by first going to either their main site or some other site that allows you to access the www.rd.ca/ssvault site.
Said I won a prize and sent me a check for just over 6, 800 dollars to cover lawwyer and insurance cost...the prize was 2.5 million dollars...
I cannot find area to enter Wii contest access code 51345
My name is Sylvie and I work for Reader's Digest in Customer Care. If you are looking for the contest at www.readersdigest.ca/access, it is possible that you will not find it by using Google (or any other search engine). To get to the contest page, you need to type the URL (address of the contest - will start with www.rd.ca/) into the address bar of your web browser. Please see attached.
I hope this clarifies the matter for you but if you need further assistance, please do not hesitate to call us at [protected] or to email us at customer.service@readersdigest.ca.
You are Scam artists I'm cancelling my subscriptions. You are ### taking us for a bunch of fools. I wont deal with you again. you are crooks! Grace Dove
Why is reader's digest indulging in scam contests? Everyone gets the same numbers What kind of a loser contest is this?. I won't be renewing my subscription in 2013 as you indulge in fraudulent practices.
Grace Dove
dec 5/12 Was away for 1 week, cannot get back on the $5, 000 giveaway contest - tried 2 different access codes nothing worked
this is a waste of my time, I have been a subcriber for 30 years. This contest sucks. Janet Jacob
your contests are crap..in my way of thinking...how do you enter them. NOT BY EMAIL> how else? I know '''''BY ENTERING YOUR NAME TO ORDER ONE OF YOUR PRODUCTS?
I have been entering your contests for about 45 years and all Iget for my efforts is a wrong Email ADDERESS< do u treat all your former readers like this.u r off my list of material that I can trust. My loss!
I have also received the same number 88942 what is this about after entering your contest for the last 15 years no wonder I never win with us having all the same numbers. You also keep sending me a bill for books I returned two months ago.
kbrazeau1@hotmail.com
I got a fancy card ( immediate attention required) Entry Closing Notice, I proceeded to the web side and entered this access code 88942. Your message came up : sorry ERROR
the CODE is not valid. It is insulting to receive your mailings and I can see on the comments that more people receiving your SPAM notices.

Fraud and scam
Why is it, I cannot link on to a readers digest contest. I received a card with Julys 2008 readers digest telling me how to enter the nintendo wii contest. The web tells me there is no such address for the contest. This has happened numerous times with previous contests and am beginning to believe all of it is a scam.
I've been entering the Reader's Digest sweepstakes and contest for years. I never hear about anyone being a winner. I went as far as writing a letter to Ronald J. Leslie, Office of the Director asking him to verify these sweepstakes and contests. I never got a response from him and don't know if he ever got the letter. Reader's Digest only interest is getting you to spend money on their products: Books, Magazines, CD and DVD's. If you ask me, I think they the whole operation is a SCAM. Nobody wins with them.
antivires 2008
went to web site to see what the free gift was.antivires 2008 downloaded on my computer.it would not let me back on the internet. took me two hours to erase off my computer. it just keep coming back. wanted me to pay 49.95 for there service. they should not be able to do this. MAD
What theives! I used to think that Readers Digest was a reputable company but after reading complaint after complaint here, I am more than turned off by them and will spread the news around to as many people I know, including my Dad who had gotten the book for years in the mail. Thank God I saw these posts because I too received a bill in the mail today for a book I Never ordered and as a matter of fact, threw in the garbage! Talk about unlawful! Something truly needs to be done. I am calling the phone numbers tomorrow!
M.J. from Carnegie, PA
Receiving a bill for $29.65 for a book I did not order. You should not be sending books in the mail and then take for granted I wanted it and then send another which I sure don't want. I would not order books by mail and not from Reader's Digest. I don't think the most of the stories are for me. Therefore, I don't want the books. It is an insult to be charged for something I didn't order or want.
I also quit getting the Reader's Digest monthly because most articles are not good or are trash.
Send me a mailing envelope and I will return them to you COD. I don't want bothered any more.
Thanks for the past years of my getting Reader's Digest, but no more.

I also have received an invoice from Readers Digest for a total of $42.75 with two installments of $18.78. I am returning the invoice with the notation that I want a copy
of my order, for I don't remember ordering anything. I do remember getting a FREE OFFER. This looks very bad for Readers Digest. I thought they we a GOOD COMPANY
I just received an invoice from Readers Digest for the amount of $29.65 for an order I never placed. (or received) - Judging by the previous emails I am obviously not alone! Please stop sending me any more bills for something had nothing to do with!
I've also received a FREE book ---- or so they said. Now, they're sending me bills and collection agency letters saying I'd better pay when I never ordered the book in the first place. I won't be paying them for it and if they want it back, they can send me the postage for it.
Janice Palardy
Since I cannot find a phone number for Reader's Digest I am sending my complaint by e-mail. I received a cd in November of 2009. I did not order this cd of Wine, Roses, and Music. I thought it was a free gift for ordering 4 subscriptions of Reader's Digest. I will send the cd back but I feel you should pay the postage since I never ordered it. Please, please, do not send me any more cd's!

I am very disappointed that Readers's Digest would do that to a faithful subscriber and then send me a past due bill. I will not order from you again. My bill is for $23.78
You sent me a CD [ Wine, Roses & Music ] which I didn't order, but you say I did. I thought it was free since there wasn't a bill with it. I'm NOT going to pay for it since I didn't order it. I will send it back . I am VERY disappointed in RD! Please don't send me anything else.
I am writing this on behalf of my dear friend David Laake. acct.#[protected] David recieved a bill inthe mail regarding some books that he supposedly recieved. He is a retired vet who suffers from post trumatic stress and is unable to read enough to ever have wanted this book in the first place. You are now demanding payment for what you say he ordered?!? Quite underhanded I must say, for he is not even capable of doing such in the first place. Please correct this on your end, and send no more bills. Thank you. D.S.
We did not order silks vol4 .We received no billing with it and have not since we got this one that says we are past due. We will send the book back and please don't send us anymore .Please respond by our e-mail at gailchavous@comcast.net. Gail & Rusha Chavous
i didnot order your readers digest so please take me off your list account number is [protected] I will not pay this bill thank you reply at lloyd christianson@yahoo.com i fully disagree with this BILL
I cannot find website for contest
Have been doing business with them for years and I cannot find the web site to win the ipod. Have I been buying books and supporting them all these years entering their constest with the cost of stamps, has this bee all for nothing?
I have purchase quite a few books and have ordered their monthly magazine for years and have also passed it on to others.
why bother sticking these little contest cards in your book if there is NO contest to begin with. Makes me wonder about even renewing my subscription! I thought Readers Digest was pretty honest and reliable until I see things like this happening!

Unethical Business Practice and Delaying Tactics to correct problem
Without consulting with me, Reader's Digest unilaterally decided to take $34.94 from my credit card to pay for a gift subscription. When I confronted them about it, they admitted to the "mistake" and promised that they would credit the amount to my account. It has been more than three months now and they still have NOT credited my account. They cannot even give me a definitive date as to when they would do so.
I am quite surprised that a longstanding company like Reader's Digest would engage in such unethical business practice and would keep stalling to try to address a "billing error" that they made.
Vincent
readers digest called me and said that they were going to send me a free special selections book I agreed they sent me the book. now they are billing me for a book they say sent not the free one i don't think but i never received another i also did not order any. they are billing me for a book i never ordered or received.telling me i am seriously overdue theatning collection action etc. This is not the first time they have made deceptive billing to me they also bill for a gift subscription that i gave one year telling me i owe for the next year. I did not sign up for life on a gift subscription. They send their bills which are really subscription renewals like you owe them with no orders. I will no longer order or do business with them again I have been a customer of theirs since the 60's and am very dissapointed with their billing procedures and will not do business with them again unless i receive an apology and rectification of the misdeeds by this company. Unsolicited goods!
On visiting my Mother, who is in her eighties, today after her being in Hospital for four weeks I was horrified to see she had seven packages from readers Digest. She had not possibly ordered the goods and they were most unsuitable, including Books and CD collections no one in our Family would ever be interested in. As I looked around the house there were many other unopened packages from them and numerous letters offering huge prizes to be won. It is clear from looking at this company's advertising that they are not honest and target weaker members of society.
What a surprise, no surprise!
For the first time I actually logged on to a site offering a free prize. I picked Readers Digest because I have always felt that this was an honest upfront company. Boy was I wrong! I logged on as a "preferred subscriber" as directed to claim my "free surprise". Well it only took 15 seconds to discover that the surprise was that there was NO SURPRISE!
This will be the last time I log into one of these sites, and as for Readers Digest, their reputation has just taken a major nosedive in my books. In addition I'll be spreading this "good news".
Signed,
A formerly happy subscriber.
This is the only place i find to tell you i ordered RD on may15 and paid and now today i get a letter telling ne somme book vol 2 was limited and the time is up. I never ordred that. All i want is my RD that i paid for.
Yes I ordered a subscription to RD, but I haven't received any conformation when I will be getting my first issue.
thankyou
This free gift thing happens over and over with Readers' digest.
I just typed the url www.rd.ca/surprise in the address bar of my web browser and it worked. Are you trying to find it through Google (or another search engine)? That might be why it did not work.
Try typing it at the top of your web browser.

Hey, they want it a second time, o k, no more business with Readers Digest, bad business...
Same problem with Lexus card received.. Gotta be a rip-off.
love it
Same problem as others, unable to find lexus site.Same also for our canada $23,500 website.
Can't find lexus site either. Like any game with pieces missing, it goes in the garbage and then we lose faith in mankind, trust no one and retreat back into our unibomber style cabin or just move on. I've got a driveway to shovel out. Later.
I received a card for a chance to win a Lexus Sedan from readers digest and can't access site. If this a legitimate contest and if so,how do I enter?
I have a card to enter a contest to win a Lexus Sedan from readers digest and can't access a site. Please advise if the contest is legitimate and if so, how do i enter. Thanks!
Terrible experience!
I received with this month's edition of RD, an insert stating 'You could win thousands on the net!' and giving www.rd.ca/jackpot. When I tried this, there seems to be no such sight, as this just pulled up complaints board, and nothing about a jackpot.

I stopped a gift subscription this Christmas due to low funds. Reader's Digest sent a gift card anyway and then billed me for it. Now I have to tell my daughter that she will not receive the gift! I never ordered a book subscription. I received a book in the mail today and now have to cancel. Their enclosed card says "You can cancel any time by writing us a note." and fails to give an address. I am so annoyed by this.
I received an urgent notice from Readers Publication Services to pay a supposedly unpaid bill for a TV guide I paid in full 5 years ago. The lady on the phone was rude. The letter said it would go to collections if I didn't pay $46. I know I don't owe anything on this and keep getting renewal slips which I do not renew. They need to be shut down.
Junk mail and magazines
Just like to say in a world of junk mail and magazines it seems that know body could ever have the time to take on a full time job, if they were to keep filling out forms and applications for all these potential win win win situations.
Maybe one day we could win the time ... To keep up with all these win win win... Deals?
Not to mention the fact that it is anything but GREEN; do you think Reader's Digest cares about deforestation and filling landfills?
Readers Digest should take a long hard look at the way they advertise and promote. Their competitions waste a lot of paper, which is far from ethical or green in this day and age. We are all trying to be frugal, to conserve forests, use less resources and keep the planet clean - what is Readers Digest doing in the face of all this? It is bombarding its subscribers with envelope after envelope of long spiels that nobody reads, for competitions only the foolish enter. Small envelopes, large envelopes and medium envelopes, all crammed with paper that gets thrown out immediately, many unopened, most unread. It is an appalling disgrace, and something should be done about it. I propose a boycott of all Readers Digest products, including Cds, books, the magazine, and manuals, until they stop their current method of direct mailings. Just because a letter is addressed does not make it any less offending or junky. Those with 'no junk mail' stickers on their mailbox still get a heap of unwanted paper because the envelopes are addressed. Readers of the world unite, and shout we shall not digest this!
Cannot subscribe to Free Gift Offer!
Received with the magazine (Reader's Digest) a gift offer to log into www.rd.com/surprise for Surprise Gift waiting for me. Their website would not bring up the area to log-in for this free gift offer. This is not fair to the subscriber to offer something and then fool us in their directions as to how to log-in. What's their answer to us for this misconception...
WELL LIKE MANY OTHER PEOPLE I SEE I CANNOT ENTER A FASLE CONTEST..HOW CAN READER'S DIGEST GET AWAY WITH THIS..PLEASE TELL ME..BRENDA MACKIE
This is not about the Free Gift Offer but I have tried to email Readers Digest and get no answer so...
I have been being hounded to pay for a subscription I paid for last summer...every month I get you reminder letter that I need to pay. The past few months I have been e-mailing, sending back the invoice with the check number and bank name and etc. on it. The next month I get a progressively nastier request for money. I suggest you fire the incompetents working for the company. There are many unemployed people that would be happy to sit there and take care of your customers. I am am about at wits end as to what to do about this whole thing...you took the money and ran. My next step is gonna have to be to pay to get a copy of the check and I will make copies of this copy and send them back to you each month.
(So...they have many more problems than just promotional things!)

I don't know why you're not honoring the Family Reading Program Fundraising my in granddaughter's school at Arlington School, Torrance, CA. That's when I filled out the form clearly for 3 subscriptions and wrote a check for $58.00. - 1. Ladies Home Journal for me, 2. Readers' Digest one year subscription for Gilbert Vinluan, 3. Readers' Digest One year subscription for Miriam Bactad.
I urge you to honor your commitment to Family Reading Program, stop giving me the credit and send those subscriptions to people I gave you earlier in the form, and as written above. Please respond ASAP. Thank you.
Gerda B. Vinluan

I received my Readers Digest, and in it was a card that said to log on for 3 free gifts that is awaiting for claiming. Well there was not an address for this. This is the second time that this has happened.
