RollerCoaster Tycoon® Classic A Must Buy

I have all the expansions and needless to say the purchase is worth the price. Just like the PC; you can create your own scenario, play the classic scenarios from RCT 1&2, and save as many different copies of that park as you want. When creating a park in scenario editor, You also get to select what rides you can have in your own park, just like PC. New rides, scenery, and paths from expansion packs are included in the park editor if you decide to purchase them.

One thing that I had a bit of an issue with in the Park editor is if you decide to have a large land mass, say 150x150 and you want to own the whole area for your park, it takes too long to tap the entire area then clam it.

Also while in game, Car rides and go-carts; you can elevate the track but once in the editor, you do not have the option to go up or down with the track.

The game runs smoothly and has plenty hours gameplay. Saving and loading parks is a breeze. You will definitely be on your phone or tablet for hours on end. But don't worry if you are in a hurry the game offers an in game speed setting to get things moving, well faster that is. I enjoyed playing this on PC back in the day, now I get to play it as I am on the go, best money I have probably spent in the App Store.

RollerCoaster Tycoon® Classic Incredible!

If there are any app developers out there looking to translate a classic PC game into an iPhone app, then use Roller Coaster Tycoon Classic as an example. I only ever played RCT3 growing up so I cannot compare this one to the original two PC games but oh my gosh this is a nearly flawless game. I particularly like how easy the path builder is to use (like how the height markers make it super easy to connect paths). There are a few bugs (constant vandalism) and things that could be tweaked (click and drag to place coasters instead of clicking around), but I am super impressed at how well this game flows as an iPhone game. I'm sure gameplay would be a lot less cramped on a larger screened iPad but I play on my iPhone 6 Plus and the game is still playable. If you are thinking about buying this game, DO IT. I will also be purchasing the expansion packs whenever I complete all of the current scenarios (which may take me a while...) One of the most addictive games I have played in a long time. I should also note that for me it did not seem to kill my phone battery...my phone is over two years old and the battery doesn't hold much juice anymore and I noticed I could play this for quite a while before any significant battery drainage occurred. Really such an impeccable game.

RollerCoaster Tycoon® Classic It's the old roller coaster tycoon on computer

It's exactly the same, and has the same scenarios where you play a pre-built park. Plus extra. The person complaining about not being able to charge for admission hasn't played through all the scenarios. There's levels where you can charge admission and not for rides etc... There is no free form park so that's different. Also if you did some research about etc you'd find the tricks. The quickest way make money in any scenario is an old cheat that was on the computer version and it works on the phone and iPad too. You make the park admission price free, then for every ride you set the admission price to the excitement rating. so test rides before opening so you can set the price. Oh and you always round down to the nearest 10, so if the ride has an excitement rating of 7.87 (roller coasters are higher) you can charge $7.80 for it. If you do that, guests always ride your rides and most think it's a good value. Then you have tons of people running out of cash. When your value is dropping make sure you assign handymen to sweep their own section rather then placing a bunch randomly. Then make sure the park loops around so people can find the exit after they've gone through everything. You can even set all the guests who are saying "I wanna go home" over by the exit and they will leave and the value goes up.

RollerCoaster Tycoon® Classic Good port, but some minor issues

It's nice to see a port of one of my favorite games from my childhood. All the features of the original games are represented fairly accurately, and the controls are simple to learn. The game is also a great value for the money. Even if you choose to shell out the ~$10 extra to unlock the expansion packs and the scenario editor, it's still the equivalent of getting 1 and 2 and all their expansions for about the price of the original base game.
I also look forward to importing some of my old designs from the PC version.
That said I have 2 mild issues keeping me from giving a perfect score:
1. The game unpauses whenever you go to interact with any element of it other than the save screen. This makes it harder to construct large rides and paths and relocate employees and guests when needed, as the park buzzes around you.
2. The land buying system in the scenario editor is a pain. In the original you'd just select the land owned button and click on the patches you wanted, while in this game you have to select the patch of land and then click a separate button to confirm each block. This, on top of being less efficient can also cause the camera to shift erratically thus making land editing and purchasing slower and more difficult.
If these were cleared up you'd have an excellent port of one of the best sim games of all time.

RollerCoaster Tycoon® Classic Update Needed due to Several Bugs

• Guests have been caught line jumping, missing the rides completely!
• Mechanics are stuck on fixing rides when entrance and exit stations are separated!
• Staff have been caught wandering outside their patrol area, lollygaging infinitely!
• Staff sometimes "wrong warp" outside of their patrol area, trapping them and preventing them from doing their jobs! This most commonly occurs from loaded save data, which can easily become corrupted because of these bugs!
• Rides sometimes do not resume normal operation, resulting in consecutive breakdowns!
• Park Value Plummets -$200,000+ in less than a week!
• Also experienced issues explained by newmanix, CODYCORE, rock&rollruinedmylife, and Poot-Sin!
• The Original RollerCoaster Tycoon Expansion Packs contain parks exclusive to that title, and should be brought back via in-app purchase!
• The Original RollerCoaster Tycoon allowed you to freely choose the price of both park and ride admission! RollerCoaster Tycoon 2 limited you to either the park or rides must be FREE! The limitation from RCT2 should be dropped for this version, as some parks do charge for certain rides! Not dropping that limitation makes the entire game experience extremely unrealistic!
• The six-seater style wooden coasters in real life have five cars per train! With an in-game limitation of four cars per train, this makes it impossible to re-create certain coasters!

RollerCoaster Tycoon® Classic It's ok

This is a fun game...at the beginning. It is fun building your first roller coaster because you have a lot of money. You get to negative money VERY quickly and then you can't really do anything. You have to pay your employees monthly and it just takes away even more. Here are some suggestions to the game that they can add:

1) Sandbox Mode- There is no sandbox mode which is very annoying because then you don't have to spend money and you can expand your imagination and build whatever you want.

2) Vandalism- Vandalism in the park happens way too often. When I'm replacing one bench, the one next to it or close to it gets destroyed, and that's very annoying. I also have 5 security guards in a small park. They cost a lot and they don't even do anything.

3) Money- The only time you make money is when you're actually playing the game. This is extremely annoying because when I leave the game and have maybe $100, I will still get pack to the game with -$200 because the money goes away as it pays for the staff, but it doesn't earn money while you're away! Which is so frustrating because then you have to spend a long time on the app.

4) Make it cheaper- Honestly, this game shouldn't be $5.99. I would price it around $1.99 because then if you want, you can buy the expansion packs so it's even more money to spend. The base game is way too expensive for the little you get.

PLEASE FIX THIS

RollerCoaster Tycoon® Classic Great game, but

I don’t leave many reviews, but something must be said. Don’t get me wrong, this game is amazing if you love tycoon style games. I have been a fan of it since it came out on PC (RCT3 is just okay. There is some kind of magic to be had in RCT, RCT2, and this one, essentially both combined.) You manage a park with finances, simply put. Game has multiple “scenarios” that require you to perform certain tasks in order to win - quite fun and interesting.
My biggest beef lately is that on the new curved iPhone screens, and especially the “null zone” near the top of the screen where the camera etc are are essentially ignored by the game. This makes selecting the “Adjust Land” option, the “Settings” option a repetitious endeavor, and spoiler: both of these are very useful and will be pressed FREQUENTLY...or at least, you will try to. The park info button in the top left is hard to press as well, but not used as frequently. Park map in top right is big enough that it is not an issue. But the other corners...and my eyes brightened when this just got a new update..! But alas..these issues ignored.
Am I trying to deter you? Not at all. Great game, but unfortunately, probably more suited for anything less than the newest phone, or on an iPad, which to me kind of alienates a big group of players, myself included.
I will be waiting for the day I can complete the scenarios on my phone. Until that time, ride and scream, friends.

RollerCoaster Tycoon® Classic Great Game, and the creators read these suggestions so

I love this game. Really takes me back to playing it when it was just a PC game. If you played the original and want to be a bit nostalgic with your time wasting, this is the way to go.

There are some bugs and one huge improvement I would like to see is allowing music apps to play when playing the game. Or making an option for it.
Another improvement is under options when filtering the views, you should make something like a "lock" option because when I'm editing the landscape and/or placing paths, when I switch back and forth between the editing modes the options reset which can be very annoying.
Also, in the newest update, often times when trying to build a ride it won't let you change the position of the screen since it's locked in place, which can be frustrating when building rides.
Bugs wise, there are some that I've noticed. One is that sometimes a ride will break down but a notice never appears and the ride never closes unless I notice and close it. Meanwhile all the guests in line are getting mad at the wait. Also, many times I've noticed that the mechanics will not be able to access a ride when it's broken down unless you place them almost directly next to the exit of the ride.
Most of these things I noticed on the map "crumbly woods" so unless they're specific to that map, it should be game wide.

As per usual, I'll update my review to 5 stars if I see these things addressed. Thanks for the great work you've done in this game.

RollerCoaster Tycoon® Classic ITS WORTH IT! (One problem I’d love fixed!$

I’ll start off with the classic “I never leave reviews” but RCT is a game I played when it first came out and I found the newer ones to lack the charm. I was optimistically cautious to see it as an app for the iPhone, especially as someone who doesn’t spend a bunch of money on apps. But I’m so glad I did and I’ve spent an absurd amount of time completing scenarios and gleefully making my parks. If you already loved this game, just get it, it’s worth it. Now for the couple of downsides that is really more directed to DEVELOPERS than players…

With the iPhone, the ability to switch tabs/pulling the Notification Center down from the top has made this game slightly less enjoyable. Accidentally switching out of the game happens constantly. It’s not a huge deal, but I get very annoyed because there’s a glitch where switching tabs turns the sound off. Now if you don’t need the little dopamine rush at the “cha ching!” And the sounds of screams, then you won’t be bothered. But I get so frustrated having to close the tab, fiddle with the sound, then reopening the game.

Secondly, the options in game get sort of limited fast. There is not an option for a pure sandbox mode. You can continue playing a scenario indefinitely, but I wished I could create my own massive park. There is an add on to create your own scenario, but you have to click very small sections of land to buy. I seriously spent close to half an hour just spam clicking my screen to try and own the whole given brick of land.

RollerCoaster Tycoon® Classic All the Nostalgia!

If you are looking for the classic RCT game you have found it! It’s almost identical to the PC version. There are a few differences.

PROS

-When you build the walking paths or the queue lines, if there is a tree in the way you can build on it and it will automatically remove the tree, whereas in the pc game it says “tree in the way.”

-The rides and food places have dollar amounts pop up every time something is sold, giving you a much better idea of what’s selling and what’s not.

-The rides give you an option to “include scenery” so if you want your ride decorated and already have a queue lines and exit paths attached you can, but it will cost more to build that way. But you can also turn it off if you’d like to make it cheaper.

CONS

-I am playing it on my iPhone 8, so because of that the buttons are REALLY small and you may tap the wrong thing sometimes. It’s a little tough to place your handymen, guards, mechanics, and entertainers. A stylus would be recommended if you are playing on a phone to make it a bit easier!

-You can’t charge an entrance fee for your park, it’s free to get in. But to counter that, in this version you can just make the rides, food, etc a lot more expensive than you normally would in the PC version but the customers won’t complain about it (unless you make it WAY too high) As an example I charged $10 for a ride on the Crazy Caterpillar coaster. Queue line stayed full!

All things considered I would highly recommend this game and it’s totally worth the $6!

RollerCoaster Tycoon® Classic Great game! Better on Tablet! But

I love how they brought it to iOS and tweaked it to give it a fresh feeling.

The latest update addressed a lot of issues but the Tool Kit add on is still something less than to be desired.
DO NOT BUY UNLESS YOU HAVE A LOT OF FREE TIME. YOU MUST BE A DEDICATED PLAYER TO USE THIS ADD ON.
There has been little to improve this from the original PC game. There in that lies the problem. The PC version you had a mouse. Phone or tablets, have a touch interface.

Zoning, land you own (or construction rights) is the most miserable experience I have had in a game. It took me over 2 hrs to go through and zone a 200x200 grid. Because I had to,
Tap, Press a button
Tap, Press a button
Tap, Press a button
With the max tool brush.
You can try to double tap however this just adds to the madness.
The fix for this is to only have to do it once. So save as you go and manage your saves wisely. Name the save the grid size you are using. Because naming you park scenario at the end overrides the file name doing a separate save.

With the mouse on the PC game you could just click and drag.

Prop placement can be a hassle when going over a specific stacked number of walls or features.
I can give them a pass on this because this was a problem in the original game.
However with a mouse, there were work around's. Prop placement is complicated further with the visual buttons that you can use in the options menu. They like to turn themselves off at the worst moments. Trying to see through those supports. Placed a beam. Nope. Your done. Try again.

RollerCoaster Tycoon® Classic Thank you!

QUICK UPDATE! Developers, can you make it so that I can play my iTunes music in the background while I play your game? I tried turning off sounds in options but it still doesn't let me play my iTunes music while playing your game. Usually in other apps I can play my music while playing their games, but I can't seem to do that with RCT classic. Please fix this in next update, thank you!

Now back to the review...

I only had to read three or four reviews to instantly purchase this app, and I do not regret it one bit!

This game is truly amazing and brings me back to my childhood times playing RCT2 on the PC.

However, I would like to ask the game developers to please consider lowering the price of the ToolKit Upgrade to $3.99, I would instantly purchase it for that price.

Also, I noticed there are some reviewers complaining about the "FREE" entry. I don't see an issue with this, there are goals in the game and I'm confident that the reason the entry fee is free is to help you reach your goals better. For example, if you need to have more than 1400 guests by a certain time, an entry fee might make that difficult, especially for new players who might not realize how much an entry fee can affect the amount of guests coming into the park. The developers clarified the entry fee "so-called" issue in one of their January updates. Some scenarios you can change the entry fee and others you can't. It simply depends on the scenario. This game is amazing! Thank you to the developers for the continued improvements and fixes and reading the reviews of your very satisfied customers :)

RollerCoaster Tycoon® Classic Great game! But a few issues

I love this game and have become addicted to it again. There is a few issues I see. When I ride breaks down and your mechanic goes to try and fix it there has been (4 times for me) a guest who is frozen in the entrance of the ride which means your mechanic can’t get in there to fix the ride. I’ve tried clicking on the guest and moving them but nothing happens. I’ve tried just about everything I can think of to fix the problem. No matter if you exit the game and go back in. Save it and go back in the guest is always still frozen in the entrance of the ride which again prevents the mechanic from being able to fix it. The only solution I’ve come up with is I have to trash the ride and re build it which is too much work to have to keep doing every time it happens. The only other issue I have come across is your janitors who sweep the paths. No matter how many you hire no matter if you give them specific jobs to do. You can have 10 janitors assigned to the same area and your guest will ALWAYS complain about the disgusting state of your path. There is one park on here I didn’t pass because guests always complain about my paths. I had 50 janitors hires and had 15 assigned to one part of the park that was the dirtiest. I would watch what they were doing and they would all walk by the piece of trash on the ground AND walk outside of there assigned areas. The only way they would sweep it up is if I picked them up and placed them on top of the spot that was dirty. Kinda a lot to do when your building a park. If these problems were fixed I wouldn’t have any issue giving this game 5 stars

RollerCoaster Tycoon® Classic Exceeded my expectations

I grew up on video games including pc games when pc became popular and of course RCT. Well this hit the nail on the head to say the least. I had high doubt to be completely honest, every game from console or pc to mobile has been a terrible transition so far, farming simulator 20 is probably the biggest example of why I don’t bite when it comes to the transition to mobile games. This time, however, I did a ton of research of the game before getting it then when I finally decided it was enough for me to try it I bought it, turns out the game had me hooked instantly as the old one did and to say the least, it’s almost as if I can say for the first time in my life not only is the first original version of a game not the best, but the remaster of the original is better than the original? This doesn’t happen often but it did. They didn’t modify anything about the story etc. all they did was make it mobile compatible with the ability to glide across the map instead of click and drag like a mouse. Honestly I have not a single complaint what so ever, only suggestion is a next step. Roller coaster tycoon 3 INCLUDING THE EXPANSIONS on mobile! That I would pay some good money for! Also beware anyone who’s buying this RCT classic game, the two expansion packs whacky worlds and the other I can’t remember the name to, are in app purchases. The toolkit to build maps is also an in app purchase. The two expansion map packs are only $1.99 a piece, however the toolkit expansion is as much as the game itself at $5.99. Have a great day all and I highly recommend this game and both expansions as it was intended to be.

RollerCoaster Tycoon® Classic Thrilled To See This Classic

Hello,

I want to first say that I played all of the RCT games growing up and was ecstatic when I saw RCT Classic on the App Store. I have run into a few issues that are negatively affecting my experience and I’m sure I am not the only one.

First, with the most recent iOS update, it has not been iPhone X friendly. When trying to custom design a coaster, it places the top bar with the “x” icon behind the money bar, preventing me from closing the window or dragging it anywhere. Also the “notch” on the iPhone X often covers up various windows that the player opens, as well as the rounded corners of the screen seem to partially cut off some “back” buttons.

When trying to build a saved coaster track design, I am not given the choice for how high or low I would like to build it. I was curious if there was a way to raise or lower saved designs. For example, when I begin a custom designed coaster with the first station section, I am able to adjust its initial height. This is not an option when placing saved track designs, only rotation and mirroring.

Lastly, I’ve noticed that if you place any type of food/drink/kiosk/restroom directly across from the entrance of a queue, guests that are then walking away from said kiosk will enter the queue without the intention of riding the ride. They will walk through the people standing in the existing queue all the way to the entrance and turn around and walk away. Besides this being an eye sore, I wonder if this could possibly be leading to guests complaining about getting lost or stuck, or a poor path layout.

I will happily change my rating to 5 stars if the updates continue to roll out, as I have spent hundreds of hours playing the games in RCT franchise growing up. Definitely worth the buy.

RollerCoaster Tycoon® Classic You guys just made my entire YEAR!

I am literally probably the biggest fan imaginable with this game! So much so that I not only have the PC version, but 2 copies of the original XBOX version and even t original XBOX's that I keep around solely for this game in case one breaks! It's true... The developers did a PHENOMENAL job with the port! It is beautifully done. It is a new touch-friendly layout but stays true to the original in look and feel. I must say that I am really geeking-out over this! It is a dream come true for a die-hard fan like myself. And as a die-hard fan, I really hope the developers take note of this as I unfortunately do have a couple negative things to say and suggestions. For one, you cannot charge for park admission on parks you originally could! Why?!?!? 3 parks in and no admission prices can be set. Secondly, I LOVE the pre-built rides, but where are some of the other ones I used to love and use a lot... Like "Logger's Revenge" for the Log Flume, for example? I would love to see the missing pre-built rides being re-added... Even if it's without included scenery! Thirdly, I noticed not all the rides available in the original parks are available in these. For example, you used to be able to get the steel and steel corkscrew rollercoasters in "Forest Frontiers" after researching them. Not anymore! I used to use those to quickly boost my money... And the lack of those combined with not being able to charge for admission makes it much harder and less enjoyable. And finally, for a suggestion/question, any way this can be ported to XBOX One? That would be the real dream come true! I would even pay more than this to buy it if it did. I am hoping this will revive the franchise enough to see that as a possibility! I was extremely disappointed when I realized the original XBOX version was navel made compatible for the 360. Any word/feedback from the developers is very appreciated! Thank you again and PHENOMENAL job guys!

RollerCoaster Tycoon® Classic Doesn’t have everything the original had

Ok i have been playing this for quite a bit now and i was super hyped about it. Usually you don't see ported classic computer games for the phone like this. They usually water it down and pretend its anything like the original. So i was definitely pleasantly surprised by this. And it works really well. There are some odd glitches here and there with the scenario editor and the audio cuts out if you tap on a phone notification, but nothing i thought was too bad.
Until i realized that theres definitely elements of the original game missing. Having some premade rollercoaster designs missing was one thing and i don't really care about that stuff, but theres actually scenery missing. This bothers me. Mainly the terrain tools. At least 6 other terrain sidings are missing... and at least 2 terrain grounds that make roofs. This makes a difference in gameplay because what they took out was the ability to make houses with the terrain. I know you can do it with whats in the walls and roofs scenery option but its definitely not the same and its also a massive pain to get right to do it that way if you are building something even somewhat large. So... not cool.
Plus theres a bunch of paths and queue paths missing too. Not much... but enough. And its missing the ability to actually customize your paths. And the paths there are... most of them are yellow! It gives you like 7 different options of the same yellow path! Whats up with that? So yeah no... not as good as the original yet.
I can appreciate the improvements it HAS made to the original gameplay though. But I am definitely hoping that some time soon this app gets an update to actually give us paths and terrain like the original game had. Because now I'm just thinkin ok, what else is this game missing? Does it have less rides and stalls too? Idk. Its been so long i cant remember what it had and didn't have. But see you just cant skimp on these details. They're important.

RollerCoaster Tycoon® Classic Love the game just few issues

Great game has lots of different groups I’m personally finished all parks in first 3 groups and plan to do so with the rest of the groups each have new maps and challenges thou most seem pretty much the same it’s almost impossible to not have a good park rating and with any common sense pretty easy to make the number of guest part of the challenge. Few things I’d like to see added or changed

1. Make new challenges different then just number of guest and park rating there’s already a few clever ones but have more of them.

2. It would be very helpful to be able to imprint the outline of the ride or rollercoaster I want to build on the land squares when trying to place it as most times the ride terrain doesn’t allow it to place due to hight restrictions and I like to raise or lower it to make it work but a lot of times I’m wasting money trying to make it work n guessing which spots to do if there’s an option to put an outline imprint on the land would make it a lot easier

3. Sometimes it very hard to see the entrance n exit spots of a ride when your trying to build or add the paths to them and when you select in options to hide rides it should keep the entrance and exit there so you can see where to build the paths

4. In some of the missions there’s already parts of the park made and you gotta add to it and what not thing is some of them paths have fences on the paths what’s frustrating is when you add a food stand or even a ride with and exit touching that said path the fence blocks that exit from the maintenance crew n the costumers from exiting ride correctly or getting access to the food stand need change that so it auto clears any obstructions in this case the fencing

Other then them ideas and suggestions the game is super fun and enjoyable looking forward to future updates if your a fan of the pc versions of this game as I was when I was younger you’ll love this app a must have for all roller coaster tycoon fans once the issues I found get fixed will be changing my rating to 5 stars

RollerCoaster Tycoon® Classic Would've SEEMED great then, but in hindsight, RCT was never really any good

I remember playing this game all the way from 4 years old and beyond, all the way up to the present day. But looking back, I could actually wonder if I should've ever even touched the series in the first place (apart from RCT3, which WAS something truly noteworthy, I'll give Chris Sawyer and Atari that).

First, I will point out the good just to keep my cool and stay positive: The game(s) were obviously very innovative and revolutionary for their time, being much fuller theme park and coaster simulators than the ones that came before it such as Theme Park, and the game was written in assembly, meaning rarely if ever any lag with a lot of stuff going on at once. And those are already huge bonuses to the first game and beyond themselves. There's also a lot of variety with what you can do with coasters and other rides, and being able to manage your theme park exactly the way you want it is truly exhilarating.

Sadly though, at least for me personally, all of this is more than completely offset by the bad: When I mentioned a lot of variety with coasters and other rides, that's AT LEAST when things worked out exactly, but sadly, that was not very often in hindsight. You see, I wanted to innovate on coasters in this game by providing new layouts and ingenious ways of using certain operating modes, but sadly, I soon found out that all this was severely limited by the stats system and how the operating modes worked exactly. In fact, also as an example, my last straw with this game came from building a LIM Launched Coaster with block sections to try this new mode out and build an innovative coaster with it, but I continued to run into intensity ratings of above 10, and by the time it actually went below 10, the acceptable level, I couldn't even enjoy the coaster anymore at least not that much because I had to strip away so much just to get an acceptable intensity rating, and even that was in the upper 9's - another in-line twist on this thing would've probably been enough to bring the rating above 10. This really frustrated me, because it meant that ultimately, I couldn't even do much with certain ride types that interested me or probably any ride type, for that matter. This was the point where I've decided I've had enough of this game; I've uninstalled the iOS app on my phone about an hour earlier, and haven't touched it since then and don't really ever plan on touching it again.

There were other problems such as how punishing the scenarios were - not difficult, punishing - among other things, that combined to ultimately make me decide I have had enough of this game. It's isn't a bad series looking back by any stretch, but apart from RCT3, it never really was any good either, and the games after RCT3 have only served to tarnish that already-rough reputation even more. At this point, it's a pretty long road to recovery for RCT at best, but at least we know it'll certainly never go beyond saving if Atari and their respective partners with RCT do things correctly and get themselves together. Don't consider this the end of the road, RCT. It's only the end if Atari and others CHOOSE to be it so. It's their decision at this point, of course.

RollerCoaster Tycoon® Classic Happy that RCT is still available

Growing up in the PC boom era, I stumbled across this game originally. I bought the Corkscrew Follies Expansion pack as well. I’d play this game for hours upon end frequently.

Later when RCT 3 came out for PC, I purchased it as well. I did not like 3 as much as I did the original. My opinion was there was too much eye candy to “ride” the coasters and such.

Eventually, I lost the original RCT disk and once thought I would never play it again. Randomly, one time while shopping, I found RCT 2 on sale and found it to be extremely similar to the original and loved it as much as the first RCT.

As I got older, RCT went to the wayside in my life. Also, due to PC operating systems and compatibility difference’s my ability to play RCT eventually diminished.

Several years ago, I downloaded the RCT4 app for iPhone and thought that the game was decent. I played it a lot but did not like that limits in how to play it. I personally think in App purchases are solely gimmicks to get your money and avoid most games that it seemed like you had to spend money to make progress.
At one time I gave up on RCT due to freezing and crashing issues I never reported. I recently downloaded RCT4 again on a whim to attempt to play it again and found a few bug issues.

Luckily, shortly after downloading RCT4 again, I found this original game in the App Store. Being $6, I wanted to try it. After the initial start of playing it, I found it to be exact like the original from the late 90’s. After playing my first scenario, I found within the app, an ability to make an additional purchase to allow for Park creation and expansion. Of course, with this being a “Tycoon” game, I love the ability to make a massive park layout and pre-create what you would like for your park to be, well before spending any game money to build what you may want. I laid out the land, with water and walkways just to start, then create my own scenario in which is relatively easy to fulfill to “win” the scenario.

RCT 1 has pre set parks and did not allow for much expansion outside of land that was available for purchase. After I would “win” the scenario, I would eventually remove everything on the land and flatten in to make a level park, and start over again by rebuilding the park how I wanted to. RCT2 would allow for park scenario creation as well as the expansion in this app will do so as well.

Creating a park is not a complicated process due to following instructions. As far as items you can build in the game either to start with or have developed through the internal funding program, I make them all available at the start of my custom scenario.

My thoughts are that IF you want high definition graphics, this game is not for you. This game is the PC version on an apple product. I love it and I am happy that Atari and Chris Sawyer have brought this game to the Apple store. The biggest downfall is the size of the map and the need to maneuver with a small screen, being on my iPhone 6s Plus. I would say a large iPad would be easier to play on. But, I will not own a phone that cannot fit in my pocket just to play a game on a bigger screen.

Ultimately, I am glad this game made a come back to the modern technology. Hopefully other old software games will be retrofitted similar to RCT. I recall many “Tycoon” games from the Y2K era that were fun to play!

RollerCoaster Tycoon® Classic Not what I Thought

Don’t buy it. I got it for the nostalgia factor. You may think you’ll pass the missions but the game will ensure every ride breaks down at the last minute so your ratings crash and customers leave. You could have 10 mechanics ready to fix the rides but all they do is run around like chickens with their heads cut off. Even when they do manage to fix the ride, it will literally break down again seconds later further causing ratings and profits to drop and customers to leave until you’re left with close to nothing and you inevitably fail. And this is on the easy levels mind you. Truly disappointed in this purchase and want my money back.

RollerCoaster Tycoon® Classic Update: Workaround to Bug

Update: there is a fix to the bug I mentioned below. With the app installed, go to the Settings app > iCloud > iCloud Drive and turn off RCT Classic. This will allow you to open the app until they fix this bug.

As a lot of other people are saying, the app was awesome for a couple hours until I completed the first objective and the app crashed. It continues to crash upon opening every time. I have tried restarting my iPad Pro, deleting and re-downloading the app, turning off Game Center and even downloading it on my iPhone. None of that worked. I would wait to purchase this when an update comes out. If this bug is fixed this app is 5 stars.

RollerCoaster Tycoon® Classic Almost a great conversion

I have been looking forward to this game for a few months now, after reading an article about it being transitioned into an iOS game. I was happy to pay for it, since there were no in app purchase and you could play as many ch as you wanted without timers or restrictions. I was ready to put endless hours into this game to recapture the nostalgia of the original. That was until the end of the first scenario when the game crashed and would not start back up again. They need to fix this sooner rather then later, as this is a major problem, especially for a game with this type of price tag. Please fix this so many of us can resume playing.

RollerCoaster Tycoon® Classic Not Really Playable

I was a huge fan of the entire Chris Sawyer RCT series. The issue here is odd though. I easily beat the park goal but by year 4 vandalism simply gets uncontrollable. Most of my parks losses were going to park staff and security, far too many guards and even though I got awards for safest park in the country, the vandalism was still uncontrollable. For some reason, guests would simply loose interest in a particular ride and the ride would start loosing money without reason. The game is really limited before you wind up-side-down in debt. It was never this way on the original game. But then again, we had the unlimited $$ cheat on PC... uninstalled.

RollerCoaster Tycoon® Classic iPhone X issues

I’m a long time RCT fan, RCT2 being my favorite of the franchise, after hearing good reviews I sprang for this port and I’m deeply disappointed in the lack of iPhone X optimization.

Certain windows get stuck behind the menus and can only be closed out by opening a different window which cancels out the stuck one.

When renaming an attraction you can’t even see what you’re typing because it extends beyond the screen edge.

This is just from the first five minutes of playing, I’m sure there are more iPhone X problems I haven’t yet come across.

Please please please optimize this game for iPhone X, you already have my money, all I want is a fully compatible game.

RollerCoaster Tycoon® Classic Great game; broken on iPad Pro

This is an awesome, faithful port of Roller Coaster Tycoon 2. Unfortunately, it doesn’t work well on iPad Pro (I’m using the 11”). It doesn’t expand to the full screen size, but the bigger problem is that when you zoom in, the pixels themselves zoom in, making everything appear blurrier. It’s difficult to describe the effect, but it makes the game unusable. For now, when I need my RCT fix, I have to open up an older iPad where the game plays smoothly without any visual glitches. I hope Atari addresses this problem soon, but I’m not holding my breath — this has been known to be a problem for at least a year, and Atari hasn’t indicated they particularly care. Bummer.

RollerCoaster Tycoon® Classic Deserves 6 stars of nostalgia

QUICK ASK: Needs update for iPad Pro’s screen size, it looks way more pixelated on new devices (you can compare iPad Pro vs iPad Air and it looks way better on the Air). Will update review if updated (no one answers support or forum)

This is possibly the best game ever, I've been waiting for RCT 1&2 since I bought my first iPad many years ago. You really made my Christmas with this, I couldn't expect anything better. RCT is one of my all time favorites and this game is perfect, it has all the fun from the original games, perfect gameplay and graphics. I just can't even describe how happy I feel and how many good memories this game brings me.

Just one more thing to say: THANKS!

RollerCoaster Tycoon® Classic Great but not perfect

Its exactly what you expect. The great tycoon game everyone has come to love. Its just about perfect. The only thing bringing it down for me is the size of the in game menus and the screen formatting for an iphoneX. The menus are really tiny and with my huge thumbs its a bit hard to select the smaller buttons. The problem with the formatting is the iphoneX has a dark area at the top and that blocks a bit of the view as well as some of the edges are cut off around the corners so some buttons are a little obscured. There is an option for screen size but whenever I select an option it crashes so I don’t know if it resolves my problems if I can get it to work. Otherwise incredible game.

RollerCoaster Tycoon® Classic Broken Parks

I love this game so much, I want to change the rating to a 5 star but I cant until it gets fixed. There are some parks that will crash the game after you’ve played the for 2 in game years. Magic quarters is the worst. My first save of the game I had 2 months left to complete the goal and it would crash every time I went back in to keep playing. At first I thought it was the whole app so I checked for an update, nothing. Tried starting a new save and it was working fine so I thought, great! Well I got 2 years into this one and it crashes just like the other save. Tried again, same thing. So I started a new park and it worked just fine all the way through completion of the goal. PLEASE look into this and fix it!

RollerCoaster Tycoon® Classic Needs improvement

Some of the cleaning and maintenance mechanics, at times, broken. Other times, (even where I try to not hire a single employee), never comes into play. Seriously needs fixing as it breaks many of the included scenarios.
Aside from that, the custom scenario creator could DEFINITELY use improvement. As a paid add on you’d think this would add significant replay value to a broken port of a classic game. I was sadly mistaken. You can only play custom scenarios created by friends. Not sure why I assumed there would be any kind of community interested in sharing unique scenarios or playing any of mine. TLDR; Although I love what this app tries to be, I cannot recommend even the base version of the app. Maybe if it was free with ads on the loading screen, otherwise no.

Also now, I can't restore my purchases! Thanks you scummy thieves.

RollerCoaster Tycoon® Classic Great Game But Badly Needs IPhone Xs/X Update

Great game, but for heavens sake can you update this for iPhone XS Max (and the other X iPhones)? It’s been several months since the new phone is out and over a year since the X came out, but this screen doesn’t line up and you literally can’t play because the controls aren't configured for the screen. For example, when I’m making a coaster it won’t let me move the creation box because the iPhone X screen doesn’t line up, so it gets stuck! Not fully playable on iPhone XS Max or X until they update it. Love this game and would give it five stars if they just took a little bit of time to update it for the newer iPhones. If you have one of those, don’t buy this until they update it - you will love looking at the game but you’ll get frustrated quick when you realize that because the developers haven’t updated the game, the simple controls can’t all be assessed.

RollerCoaster Tycoon® Classic I want more than anything to like this

I truly want more than anything to enjoy this game. I love the original roller coaster tycoon and the sequel. This game attempts to condense the best of both games into one. It falls short in so many horrible ways. When you demolish a ride you get zero money back, huge issue that cost me a lot several times. When you go to build rides like go karts and mini car rides you cannot build inclines. That's absolutely ridiculous. They eliminated no money restrictions on certain levels which leads to homogenization of level design. The second level in the campaign said that I failed the objective of getting 650 Guests in my park with a park rating of at least 600 by the end of year 3 when I had over 1000 guests with a park rating in the 800s. Absolutely nuts. Fix these HUGE flaws and maybe this will be a decent port. There are much better ways to enjoy this game. Do yourself a favor, get the PC version.

RollerCoaster Tycoon® Classic UNPLAYABLE: DO NOT BUY UNTIL ISSUE IS FIXED!

On the most recent update, the developers made point to comment on the issue about the park entry fee, stating that whether a fee is charged for entry OR for rides depends per scenario. This is not how the original game functioned -- and for a reason.

There is a reason why a park entry fee AND ride fees were controlled by the player in the original game! Without the entry fee, it takes a seriously long amount of game time to build up enough money to actually PLAY THE GAME. Just now, I spent four "months" of game time in fast forward trying to save up enough money to build a BATHROOM. Until they change the park entry fee feature, the game is subpar, frustrating and impossible to play to its full extent.

I bought this game and am otherwise so happy with it. However, it is absolutely not worth the $5.99 if you have to spend half the game doing absolutely nothing, watching the time go by in fast forward...

RollerCoaster Tycoon® Classic RCT Yay! Toolkit boo!

This port is amazing, I'll just say that. The core game is great. I bought the tool kit to build a big park and have fun and it's just a total rip off. When you make the map you then have to buy little segments of land which will take hours to buy it all. Also rides can only be flat sometimes which is just absurd. I'm also worried because Chris Sawyer abandoned this game at it's peak and didn't return to it for 15 years so not sure what to expect from fixes and updates. I should also add that he seemed okay with the trash heap that is RCT3 and the disgraceful IAP laden mobile games. I'll enjoy the core game as is but really wanted to do my own rides and scenarios. Hopefully apple will refund my money for toolkit. I was going to buy the expansions when I got paid but I can't justify it now. Very turned off. Don't want to 2 star this game but have to for the current state of the 6 dollar toolkit. I've been taken for a ride.

RollerCoaster Tycoon® Classic 5 Stars Before the Update

This is one of my favorite game - playing daily... before the update that is.

Update issues:
- can no longer 'tap to delete' paths
- now very difficult to place ride entrance sand exits
- raising/lowering buildings/items can no longer be done while game is paused. If you try, you'll have to first resume, undo, and do it again

I have not found any positive changes since the update. Prior to the update, the game could be a bit difficult to navigate (even on iPad mini). I could attribute this to the fact that I'm using a finger on a small screen with a retro interface - and that was fine. The updates should have improved the game and made the user experience easier to use.

Requested update ideas:
- remove rotate arrows and use 'pinch and twist' to rotate like most modern days apps
- toggle off/on different views (scenery) that stick... if you toggle off scenery now, it will come back on after item is placed and this is annoying

RollerCoaster Tycoon® Classic A little frustrating

I realize this game is a big piece of nostalgia for many people leaving reviews. I’m sure that eventually once I painstakingly figure out how to do anything I’ll like it too. However for first time players, this game would have greatly benefitted by having an actual tutorial built in to step-by-step guide you through the process of building and managing a basic park scenario. Instead of restarting a park over and over to try and figure the process out, I bought the toolkit thinking i’d just be able to jump into an easy sandbox mode to fiddle with until I get the basics. Nope. Still confusing. It should be clear in the product description that there is no tutorial. Again, I get that many people have played loved and enjoyed this game for years and I would love to do the same, but without any real tutorial help to get me started besides some EXTREMELY BASIC “tips” I am disappointed. I was hoping to be able to jump in and have some fun right away instead of searching for internet tutorials to help me know what to do.

RollerCoaster Tycoon® Classic Restore Purchases Failing for Months

This game absolutely deserves a 5 star review.

It's nostalgia fuel exactly as you'd expect, which is great.

Unfortunately, there are some serious issues with the in-app purchases not restoring as they should. On my iPad, I was able to restore both the expansion packs, but not the Toolkit. On my iPhone, I can't restore any. I can attempt to re-purchase via the app, but thankfully the App Store recognizes that I've already purchased and asks if I'd like to purchase again for free. This also does not restore the content, on either device.

Atari's website doesn't offer a clear path for support for this app, so I'm leaving this review in the hopes that anyone there checks the inbox this ends up in.

Please help fix this, I feel quite awful about giving a poor rating to one of my favorite games of all time. :-(

It wouldn't hurt to fix the resolution on the XS Max either, if you're going to be squashing bugs and making improvements. The game looks extremely pixilated on that screen, to the degree that most people would not play it if that was their only device. ^^

About RollerCoaster Tycoon® Classic

Screenshot RollerCoaster Tycoon® Classic
RollerCoaster Tycoon® Classic is a game that has been designed to bring back the nostalgia of the original RollerCoaster Tycoon game that was released in 1999. The game has been developed by Chris Sawyer and Frontier Developments, and it combines the best features of the first two games in the series, RollerCoaster Tycoon and RollerCoaster Tycoon 2.

The game is a simulation game that allows players to design and manage their own theme park. Players can create their own roller coasters, attractions, and scenery to attract visitors to their park. They can also manage the finances of their park, hire staff, and keep their visitors happy.

One of the best features of RollerCoaster Tycoon® Classic is the ability to create custom roller coasters. Players can design their own roller coasters from scratch, choosing the track layout, the speed, the height, and the number of loops. They can also add special features like corkscrews, helixes, and inversions to make their roller coasters even more exciting.

The game also includes a variety of pre-built roller coasters and attractions that players can use in their parks. These pre-built attractions are based on real-life theme park rides and are designed to be both exciting and safe for visitors.

RollerCoaster Tycoon® Classic also includes a variety of scenarios that players can complete. These scenarios range from building a successful park from scratch to rescuing a failing park and turning it around. Each scenario has its own set of objectives that players must complete to progress to the next level.

Overall, RollerCoaster Tycoon® Classic is a fantastic game that combines the best features of the original RollerCoaster Tycoon games. It is a must-play for fans of simulation games and theme park management games.
